5 Ways You Can Prevent Cold and Cough in Babies
In the growing age of babies, the biggest challenge that the parents come across is cold and cough. Here I will discuss a few very important points on why kids have a cold and cough and how can it be avoided by taking a few steps.
1. No Use of Nail Paints
While we feed babies with hands, it's very important not to apply nail paint because the nail paint colours contain chemicals and this can be one of the reasons for babies getting cold and cough.
2. No to Ketchup
If your toddler eats everything with ketchup/sauce, its a big no till the age of 3. Outside foods like ketchup/ sauce contain colouring agents which are one of the major reasons kids go through cough leading to fever.
3. A Big No to Chocolates
If your toddler is 2 years old and wants to eat ice-creams and screams for chocolate ice-creams... then its time to give them ice cream but only vanilla. Again if kids are eating chocolate in any form, be it biscuits, cakes or ice-creams, they have high chances of cough and cold that can give you restless nights.
4. No Coloured Toys for Crawling or Teething Babies
When babies start crawling or teething, they start putting everything in their mouth. It's time to put all the coloured toys away which babies can put in their mouth. Let them play with the toys, but keep a check that they put relevant teethers and not the coloured toys in their mouth. These coloured toys can create a coughing problem.
5. No Junk Food
The oil that is used in the wafers and other packaged fried foods is again not advisable for kids under 3 years of age. These fried foods can again cause a lot of coughing and cold in toddlers.
Considering and experimenting with all the above points, again if the baby catches a cold and cough, try not to give medicines and suppress it. Rather use home remedies that I shall share in my next article.
Till then Happy parenting!

In This Age of Modernisation, We Have Compromised Our Health
In this age of modernisation and globalisation where money meets priorities, I believe the concept of health has lost its definition. Where top brands claim to meet the surety and purity of products, there are myriad videos that try to prove their impurities. It has become hard to trust anything.
Advancement in medical science and the discovery of drugs have had a huge impact on health. My sister-in-law is a homoeopathic doctor and I was discussing with her about the subject (homoeopathic medicine), which she claims has no side-effects compared to pharmaceutical drugs. However, unfortunately, there have been several cases that show the side-effects of homoeopathic medicines when consumed over a long period of time. Both have their own place.
We all want to stay healthy. Nature has gifted us so many beneficial herbs that detoxify our systems and boost immunity. Here are a few of them.
GARLIC
Though it has been used as a flavouring agent in cooking, garlic has been used as a medicine in ancient history and modern history. It has anti-bacterial properties and helps in treating common cold and cough, lowers blood pressure and cholesterol, and boosts digestion.
GINGER
Ginger is also used as a flavouring agent in cooking but is a well-known medicine as well. It helps in lowering blood sugar levels and cholesterol and improves heart health and brain function. It also prevents pancreatic cancer, breast cancer and ovarian cancer, reduces menstrual pain and nausea, treats cough and cold, reduces inflammation, etc. However, more research is needed.
TURMERIC
Turmeric contains a bioactive compound known as curcumin which has anti-inflammatory properties and is very useful in treating arthritis. Curcumin is one of the most powerful components - it fights free radicals that are linked to accelerated signs of ageing, oxidative stress, a weakened immune system, and poor cellular health.
I have listed three important natural foods and their benefits. Markets are flooded with adulterated food products, so make sure to buy only USDA-certified organic products.

Journey of a breast feeding mother - a totally new me!
When he was first given in my arms, the only emotion I had was a tear deep in my eyes! A tear of joy, a tear of promotion, a tear of fear, a tear of responsibility! But more over it was a tear which came looking at my husband thanking me for the best gift he got.
The joy had just started. After cleaning and draping in a clean cotton cloth he was handed over to me by sister, "feed him" she said.
And I was all over looking at her with excitement and confusion that who should I start and will he understand what to do or should I teach him. Being from a medical profession thinking all this was not acceptable but now I am a mother and I want all best for him even though I have to learn or look like a fool asking silly things.
The first latch
I can't forget the first time I gave him my boobs for feed. He just felt it and went to sleep as if he doesn't have the energy to try having milk. I got confused - is he not hungry? I am doing it in a wrong way? May be he needs to learn how to latch?
Forgetting that it's a new world all together for him. I immediately recalled all my studies. How to do it I probably knew. Then I again tried opening his mouth and giving him feed and here it started "chus chus chus"
Jaundice scary
2 days down the line, happy to feed him love him care him in hospital, it's time for discharge. His bilirubin was sent in the morning before discharge so that we clear the jaundice and peacefully go home. Being a baby born in rain, with no sunshine seen for days, having jaundice was quite possible. And here it came jaundice. I was scared! Being on the opposite side of the table as doctor saying was so easy for me but when it came on being this side of patient it's horrible. Doctor advised frequent breastfeed no phototherapy at present. I was quite relieved as frequent breastfeed is all natural. I all got blank when levels went on increasing and phototherapy was started.
I felt failed but still was very adamant to feed every 1- 1 and half hour. And the night came when I called sister for changing diaper and she told me that being a mother means stop being adamant and thinking about your baby. " Let me give him top feed so that his tummy is full and he stays in phototherapy for longer" she said. In disagreement I told " I'll feed her no top feed to my baby" she looked at my adamant nature and went off. I started continue my feeding and phototherapy but it looked like I was failing. In an hour or so I disheartenedly told her to give top feed as accepted that on my feed he is not full and then he hardly stays in phototherapy for 10 minutes making his jaundice worst. This was first time I felt failed being a mother. I knew it was too early to declare myself incapable but I was going through such a phase where I was fighting with myself on basis of capability.
Post recovery we got discharged and my breastfeeding journey continued successfully.
Weaning pain
Now he about 1 year old and I am planning to wean him off feeding as I want to join work. But due to pandemic no job no successful wean. Whenever he sees me, he starts making noice as a thirsty animal and shows me how helpless I am when it comes to saying no to him
I don't know if I succeed or not
But I know one thing
Each parent is different

10 Tricks to Get Your Kids Hooked To Salads
Kids not eating their vegetables is a problem as old as the hills, probably older! Many kids have a strong aversion to vegetables and no matter how delicious a curry or sabji you make for him, things just don’t change. Another situation, though less common, is that of kids who are veggie monsters but their moms are running out of ideas to serve them their favorite vegetables. Well, no matter which scenario applies to you, it’s time to introduce a delicious way of eating veggies – salads!
Is that shocking? If kids don’t like veggies, how on earth are they going to like salads? Admittedly, getting kids excited about salads isn’t so easy. But what if you make salads so irresistible that they simply have to take a bite? Cool shapes, fun toppings, colourful dressings and involving them in the making – these are sureshot ways to win over your picky eaters, and we are not kidding.
Check out these 10 expert tips to prep up your salads with different flavours and textures, without too much extra time in the kitchen. In fact, some of them may not involve any cooking at all- what more can you ask for?
1. Switch The Greens
If lettuce is your usual pick for salads, switch to something a little different – how about baby spinach or red cabbage? Kids get bored of the same ingredient very easily. You can also try a different type of lettuce – butterhead, crisphead…When the names are so interesting, they are sure to make the salad interesting too!
2. Dress It Up Well
A dressing can change the entire character of a salad. You can go all exotic with a coconut-milk Ranch dressing or a spicy Thai almond-butter sauce. We also recommend a lemon salad dressing or a ginger or garlic dressing. But remember – unhealthy dressings are also the quickest way to pile on calories! Keep it lean and delicious by using a drizzle of Colavita Extra Virgin Olive oil; it has a lovely blend of sweet-and-spicy flavours that match almost any kind of salad you’re making.
3. Innovative Presentation
This is the most crucial step for picky eaters (read – most kids!). Unless they are served food in an exciting manner, it just doesn’t seem to work. Don’t let this hassle you; all you have to do is get a little creative, make simple, fun shapes, and give your dishes fancy names. How does Sweetcorn Salad in Tomato Boats sound? Fabulous, we think!
4. Add Some Crunch
Eating salads can be fun; thanks to the varying textures all in one dish! Pick crunchy salad vegetables like raw cabbage, lettuce or crunchy fruits like apples. You may go all out and experiment with crunchy toppings like roasted nuts such as almonds.
5. Heat It Up
Tossing just one or two warm elements onto a salad can transform the whole experience in interesting ways. The standard rule is to make the protein warm – say, a chicken breast hot off the grill, tossed with lettuce, onions, and toppings. Now that sounds like a delicious salad!
6. Smooth It Out
To balance out the crunchy nuts or raw onions, try something that's smooth, like roasted beets or sweet potatoes or maybe some avocado or yummy mango slices. This makes the overall texture of your salad very appetising. Here’s a secret tip – salads taste all the more divine with Colavita White Balsamic Vinegar!
7. Chuck the Greens
“Salad” doesn’t always include a pile of leafy veggies. Experiment with other vegetables like cucumbers as the “base” vegetable. You can even try beans as a base, and add your kids’ favourite vegetables to it. Try a very Indian Rajma Salad for instance - a protein rich salad indeed.
8. Sweeten It Up
You can get a nice sweet flavour in your salad without adding a lot of sugar. Either use honey in the dressing or add some fruit– berries, pears, peaches, or citrus all work well, depending on what you like best. Trust us, it won’t take too long. In fact, you can even keep the salad dressing ready in advance. Whenever needed, mix it up with olive oil, pour, and you are good to go. We strongly recommend using olive oil for salads and not just for the flavour. Olive oil has 5 excellent health benefits for your kids as well!
9. Deconstruct Something
Turning something else into a salad is a fun way to enjoy a favourite meal. Try this out: Colavita Penne Pasta Salad with choicest veggies. This is the ultimate salad destination for both you and the kids – it has their all-time favourite pasta and their “not-so-favourite” vegetables, all packed in deliciousness.
10. Cheesy Delight
Adding cheese to vegetable salads not only makes them more calorie-dense but also more interesting. While you can add in any type of cheese, mozarella, parmesan and feta work most marvellously! If you’re making a pasta salad, cheese is an especially enticing component. And no, there’s no need to worry about the nutrition quotient when you have these 10 excellent ideas to make pasta healthier for kids!
We're sure these tricks will help you make interesting salads that will have your kids hooked to veggies. Keep experimenting with new ingredients, tastes and styles but remember that health is paramount. This means more whole foods, fewer calories, a lean dressing and the perfect oil – and you’re good to go! Read more

How to Calm Yourself during Pregnancy - Some Secrets from Me
I am a second time mom. Entered into my last trimester today. My first pregnancy was smooth but then some stress happened and ended up getting fever during my 9th month. So this time I am extra careful about not stressing my self our and instead loving myself to the maximum.
Here is my mantra that I am following to keep myself calm.
1. Follow Your Hobby
Yes. Pregnancy brings a huge change in your body. Along with that come mood swings. It is important that you learn how to control your mind. I love writing and I started working on my second book. This helped me control my mood swings and thus reduced a lot of stress.
2. Eat What You Love
Yes. Food cravings are a part of pregnancy and they can literally make or break you. When I was pregnant with my first kid, I had immense food cravings but this time even the sight of food irritates. I just eat because that is the only way I can survive.
I don't force feed myself but eat only when I am hungry or feel like eating something. During pregnancy food is an emotion.
3. Watch One Movie a Day
Thanks to You Tube and Amazon Prime, there is no shortage of movies that are available at your finger tips. Watching one movie per day helps me keep calm because those 2 hours I am more concerned about the plot of the movie and not overthinking about my life. It helped me distract from the unnecessary stress and laugh.
P. s. Select comedy movies or pathetic movies which would make you rip off your hair... That would be more fun thing to do.
4. Pamper Yourself
It is important that you pamper yourself. Nothing expensive. Just apply a basic home made pack and that will make u feel like heaven for the entire day. Massage ur feet, hands and belly. It will be awesome. Self love is more important than anything in this world.
5. Socialise
You are not committing a crime by being pregnant. It is a natural process. Just go out, meet your friends. Go to the park, mall, beach, whichever place makes you happy. It is important to be a part of the society and not seclude urself from the society.
These are the small tips that are helping me go through my second pregnancy. The basic thing is, you need to stay happy. Bringing a new life to this world is the sole decision of you and your partner. If anyone says anything negative about it, then simply cut them off from your lives.

A. Hello there ma’am please do not worry about it too much and it is quite difficult to say anything about it without personally examination and proper reports evaluation. So better to consult with your treating gynaecologist in person as she knew the exact health condition of your pregnancy and can guide you better.
Take care

A. Absolutely hundred percent normal if the child changes the position then it’s just a matter of time otherwise I would just say that sometimes kids do not change the position throughout their pregnancy so now you should just be mentally sorted to have a C-section
