Cauliflower Pakoras
Gobi Pakora / cauliflower pakora is a well known Indian tea time snack. The decadent gobi pakoras are soft from the inside and crunchy from the outside. To take things a notch higher, fill in some cheese in between the cauliflower florets and then coat it with the batter. These pakoras are best served with green chutney or tomato sauce.
Serves
Preparation Time
Cooking Time
4 People
10-15 Minutes
20 - 25 Minutes
Ingredients
½ head of cauliflower, cut into florets
2 cups of gram flour
½ tsp carum seeds
1 tsp red chili powder
1 pinch of asafeotida
salt to your taste
1½ cup of water or as needed to make batter
2 to 3 cups of vegetable oil for frying
Method
Step 1
Wash the florets thoroughly and keep them aside.
Step 2
In a bowl, mix gram flour, carom seeds, red chilli powder, asafoetida and salt.
Step 3
Add water little by little in the flour and mix it properly until it becomes a smooth batter.
Step 4
Heat oil in frying pan. After 2-3 minutes, test the oil to see if it is ready. Drop a little batter if it rises immediately to the surface and sizzles, the temperature is correct.
Step 5
Now take 5 to 6 florets and dip them in the gram flour batter. Make sure the florets are well coated with the batter. Then, gently drop them in hot oil.
Step 6
Let the florets fry for a minute and then turn the pakoras around and let them cook for another one minute.
Step 7
With the spatula, keep flipping the pakoras upside down for 5 to 6 minutes or until the pakoras become golden brown.
Step 8
Once pakoras become golden brown, remove them from oil and place them on a paper towel.
Step 9
Serve pakoras hot with coriander chutney or tomato ketchup.

My Baby Made My Life Better!
When I got married, we had no plans to have a baby immediately. Normally, most newly married couples think about how they need some time to get to know each other and then plan for a baby after that. Life went on; I realized I got everything when I saw my husband. All the qualities I've ever wanted, by God's grace, I got it. Months moved on. Like other couples, we fought with each other, stopped talking for some days, but later on we would become one. Then my husband decided that we should plan for a baby; but soon he got called for duty as he was a seaman. However much we planned, I was fed up after six months - he'd come back again, we would plan and try but nothing was working. We then decided we would consult with the doctor and get check-ups done. The reports came out as normal and after one month, by God's grace, I was pregnant.
Again, my hubby got called for duty. There were lots of issues between us; my hubby and I lived separately, and we didn't talk the whole time during my pregnancy. When my baby came, that's when I slowly started talking to my hubby. I'd already decided the name of my baby. But my husband sent me a message asking whether I decided the name. I said yes and I told him the name, but he refused and gave me another name. Although I didn't like it much, my parents said it's important I choose the name my husband suggested.
After my hubby came back, he held the baby. It was then that he realized and thought about the future of the baby. If we lived separately, the biggest loss would be for our baby. So we decided that we'd stay together, and things got sorted out between us. Then again, we thought about names and decided on one.
My baby is lucky for me. Again, we became one because of my child. The meaning of my baby's name is obedient, and he'll always live with us! And now, the journey continues...

5 Last Minute Gift Ideas for Mom
What do you do when you have only a day to make something beautiful and useful, for your mom? You will need to be resourceful and creative to come up with unique gift ideas that will make your mom feel special and loved.
There are quite a few unique gift ideas that will not cost a bomb. Taking the time to make something from scratch will definitely make your mom feel special. But how do you go about such ambitious plans? Here are some great ideas to get you started:
1. Jar of Love
[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="400"] Source: https://in.pinterest.com/pin/207728601537542057/[/caption]
Take a mason jar, wrap it with ribbon and place cards inside stating the many reasons why you love her. This would take maybe close to half an hour to make. Ribbon can be found around the house. Your mom would be really happy, and quite emotional, after reading some very flattering things from you. You can ask your dad and your other siblings to contribute. This is a great gift to make.
2. Glitter Flower Pots
[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="564"] Source: https://in.pinterest.com/pin/303359724881335440/[/caption]
If your mom enjoys keeping flowers on her window ledge, a glitter flower pot can be a great gifting option. All you need is a glitter pen to decorate the vase. Try not to place artificial flowers in them. A bunch of fresh daisies or maybe stemmed roses will really make her day. For added appeal, you can wrap a cute bow around it. This DIY craft is a whole lot of fun to put together.
3. Personalised Coffee Mug
[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="536"] Source: https://in.pinterest.com/pin/230176230931694069/[/caption]
While a coffee mug as a gift might sound quite cliché, adding a personal touch to it can really make it special. All mothers love their fix of caffeine in the morning. This gift, with a personalised message saying: ‘World’s Best Mom’ or ‘I Love You Mom’, will bring a smile on your mom’s face. Do not worry about not being the best painter. You could also make a card to complement the gift.
4. DIY Necklace
[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="500"] Source: https://in.pinterest.com/pin/56717276536425645/[/caption]
If your mom is the kind that loves jewellery, you could always string together (literally) a necklace for her. Buy beads in different colours and bind them together with a string. Place different color beads alternatively. She will be impressed with the gift, and might just wear it with her new outfit for lunch, on her special day. This is among the most useful DIY gifts.
5. Breakfast In Bed
Nothing would make mom happier than breakfast in bed. Give her the day off by pampering her with a bowl of mixed fruits, an omelette, toast, a glass of fresh juice and maybe a red velvet cupcake for good measure. She may not want to leave her bedroom after that meal.
These homemade DIY gift ideas will not only make your mom feel loved and special, but also will give you a chance to be creative. After all, no one deserves a little pampering and loving like a mom. Make her day a special one!

A question that I get asked often is how we got our little one so interested in gods and goddesses.
A question that I get asked often is how we got our little one so interested in gods and goddesses.
While we always planned to raise our child with our faith, we never knew he would take such an interest.
From the very beginning we have tried to weave in religion and culture on the day to day. When he was an infant we would play a particular Ram Ji ka Bhajan that he grew quite fond of, we’ve exposed him to stories about our faith. It’s been a gradual process,
I think this is due to the fact that we have tried to incorporate religious and cultural stories within our daily routine vs making it a learning lesson only. It’s become so much a part of our everyday that it’s never felt like an extra task.
Read along to see some of the ways we have incorporated religion at home with daily practices and ways you can encourage your little ones curiosity when it comes to your faith.
👉Daily Practice
Whether it’s lighting a diya in the morning, saying a nighttime prayer together, or doing family meditation, find something you can do everyday, together. Daily rituals help us all feel like our efforts are a part of our everyday vs feeling guilty for
forgetting or not doing "enough". Our daily practice at home is to do "jai jai", say good morning and a prayer every morning before we start our day.
👉I personally do not use the word "myth or mythology" when talking about our religion and it’s teachings as I find those terms question the validity. We believe that many of these events have occurred over time and like with anything told or passed over
time, stories may have changed slightly or been exaggerated. We explain that there can be different versions
👉Make it a family effort
Enlist the knowledge of grandparents, aunts & uncles. The relationship between grandchildren and grandparents is simply magical, take advantage of this and have your parents tell them religious stories and lessons.
