Should You Be Worried If Your Pregnancy Symptoms Come and Go?
During the pregnancy period, a woman may experience a host of symptoms and they may vary from individual to individual. However, it has been observed that with time, most of the symptoms may disappear to again re-appear later, may not re-appear again during the pregnancy term or the symptoms may persist till delivery. Therefore, pregnancy symptoms coming and going are absolutely normal and nothing to be afraid of. However, it is but obvious for any pregnant woman, more so first time mothers, to get anxious and worried. So to be on the safer side, it is always best to talk to your doctor about it.
When are Changes in Pregnancy Symptoms Normal?
It is said that all pregnancies are not the same; which means that every pregnant woman will not have the same symptoms. Some may experience extreme nausea in the first semester, for some, it may continue till the time of delivery, and few may not suffer from nausea throughout their pregnancy.
The first trimester according to most women is the most challenging time during pregnancy. It is the period when women (especially first-time mothers) are trying to cope with the changes happening in their body. It is the time when they start dealing with pregnancy symptoms like nausea, tender breasts, dizziness, headaches, and cramps.
The second trimester is supposed to be the “honeymoon” period in pregnancy since most of the symptoms seem to disappear and most pregnant women are at ease with their pregnancy. However, for a few, it may not be that pleasant a period. Some women, even during the second trimester, go through a lot of pregnancy-related symptoms like backaches, bloating, heartburn, depression, anxiety, constipation etc., which may have started way back in the first trimester. They have this crazy craving for certain food items which at other times may not have been so. For few, it may be a period when they start disliking a certain food or even the smell of it.
In the third trimester, women may experience oedema due to water retention or frequent urination as the uterus increases in size and presses upon the bladder.
All the symptoms in each of the trimester may vary in time, recurrence and severity. On some days, all symptoms may seem to have disappeared, and the very next day, they may be back with more intensity. For most women, some of the symptoms which they may have experienced in early pregnancy may fade away or become less intense in the last few weeks; some may become even more prominent.
When Changes in Pregnancy Symptoms Concerning?
People often wonder whether pregnancy symptoms come and go before a missed period. Well, it is but common for symptoms to appear and disappear from the beginning of pregnancy. It is normal not to experience the same symptoms every single day during the pregnancy period.
It is common for pregnancy symptoms to come and go the first 8 weeks. Symptoms may vary trimester wise, week or even day wise. However, it has been observed that if symptoms stop all of a sudden or fade away, it could signal a risk to your pregnancy; the most alarming symptom being “no fetal movement”.
Which pregnancy symptoms come and go in the first trimester? Most symptoms may disappear and re-appear anytime during pregnancy and as the pregnancy progresses; but the movement of the fetus (which starts somewhere around the 5th month of gestation) should continue till the time of delivery. Apart from this, vaginal bleeding along with abdominal pain could also mean an emergency. This could be a sign of ectopic pregnancy which always requires immediate medical intervention. However, we cannot say that a sudden end to symptoms during pregnancy is of concern but talking to your doctor and undergoing tests to rule out problems would be a wise move.
Bear in mind that every pregnancy is different from the other and so the symptoms will also vary. A pregnancy without any symptoms is as normal as one with severe and intense pregnancy symptoms. The best person to walk you through your pregnancy is your doctor. Therefore, it is important and a must that you consult him before drawing any conclusions.

Choosing the Perfect First Friends - Your Child’s Toys
Toys are your child’s first friends. Your child will play with them, take them along to the bed, put her mouth to them and even chew on them. And in the process, she will learn many skills. It is of paramount importance therefore that you choose these companions for your child wisely. Read on for a few things you need to keep in mind when going shopping for toys.
Take your child to the toys’ section of the mall and watch his eyes glitter with joy. Toys make a child’s world colorful and fun and your little one is no different. Like all important things in his life, you would like to make the right choice here also. You wouldn’t want to choose toys that are unsafe or that can put wrong ideas into her impressionable mind.
While choosing toys for your child, the general rule of the thumb is they should be non-toxic and safe. Your child should have fun playing with them, and learn and imbibe something in the entire process.
Choosing Age-appropriate Toys
Although age is an important factor while choosing toys for your child, it should not be the sole criterion. You know your little one better in terms of milestones reached, and development achieved; however, going carefully through the age-related information on the label helps and tells you a number of things like:
How safe is the toy for your little one?
Does the toy contain any tiny parts?
These age - related facts will also help you come to a rational toy decision. He is attracted to colorful rattles, brightly-colored chimes or anything that has sound, colors, movement and music. Constantly talking with your little one and giving him musical winding toys would provide him great entertainment and joy. As your child grows older and learns to take tiny steps, he would need something more to play with. Construction toys, dress up dolls are great fun at this age. Jigsaw puzzles would suit your older child who has grown beyond blocks and musical toys.
Toys that are Imaginative
Your little one is slowly learning to use his imagination. He is more creative than you think. Toys that do not conform to any rules such as building blocks, crafty bits and pieces, balls and card boxes fire your child’s imagination, and he can spend hours on building towers, bouncing the balls and making tiny ornaments out of the crafty bits and pieces. Imaginative toys are best for the child at this stage.
While choosing toys for your little one, be wary of advertisements that encourage only one particular type of play among children. Succumbing to marketing gimmicks would amount to thwarting your little one’s imagination in many ways.
Dealing with Uncomfortable Toys
You wouldn’t want your little one to play with toys that promote violence and aggression. You also wouldn’t want him to play with toys that are improper and promote a thinking that is stereotyped and sexist. The toys that fall into this category are:
Weapon toys
Sexy looking dolls with fishnet stockings and miniskirts that are more adult-like in appearance
You can however overlook these factors if your child is using the toy gun as a prop while playing an imaginary game of cops and thieves.
Just remember, toys should not only entertain, but also teach and instill the right values in your little one. So, before you fill those shelves with bright, colorful toys ask yourself if you have picked up the correct toy that will not only ensure fun for your little one, but will also help shape his thoughts and fuel his creativity in the years to come.
