Breastfeeding and Periods
There are many factors that contribute to comfortable and effective breastfeeding. Breastfeeding mothers usually do not have periods as the breastfeeding suppresses the onset of periods. However, some women do get their periods even when breastfeeding. There are many factors that contribute to getting a period during breastfeeding.
When Can You Expect Your Period During Breastfeeding?
Each woman will get her first period after delivery at a different time. It could vary from between 11 to 12 weeks after delivery, to up to a year. The average time for your first period after the baby is delivered, while breastfeeding, is typically six months. There are many factors that contribute towards you becoming fertile once again after delivery. Mums with lower progesterone levels will probably get their periods faster than mums with higher levels.
Factors That Determine How Soon Your Period Returns
Factors that influence the timing of your period include:
Your baby sleeps for more than four hours during the day or more than six hours during the night.
Your baby has started to eat solid foods.
You are also supplementing your feeding with formula.
You co-sleep with your baby.
You carry your baby close to you so that he can latch on whenever he wants to.
In short, the things that influence how soon your period returns while breastfeeding is:
Nursing style
Hormones
Uninterrupted sleep
Bottle feeding
Nursing duration
Will Periods Affect Breastfeeding?
If you do get your period while breastfeeding, the chances are that you will not notice any difference. However, some women will notice a few changes. These include:
Increased nipple tenderness during menstruation.
Shortage in milk supply a few days before menstruation for a couple of days.
A slight change in milk tastes due to which the baby might not want to feed.
Your breasts may grow a little.
Menstruation should not interrupt or stop breastfeeding. The change in hormones is normal, and within a few days, your body will adjust to the changes. Nursing during your menstrual cycle will not pose any harm to your health or the babies. If you do notice a drop in milk supply, then you must consult with your doctor. She might recommend that you take some natural supplements that could boost the milk production. Be sure to also visit your baby’s physician in order to ensure that your baby is getting the right amount of nutrition. This will be usually assessed by the amount of weight your baby is gaining.
Ways to Delay Menstrual Cycle While Breastfeeding
Steps that you can take in order to delay your menstruation during breastfeeding include:
Make sure that you feed your baby at intervals of no more than 4 hours during the day, and no more than 6 hours during the night.
Let your baby feed whenever he wants to. Keep your baby close and let him latch on when he needs to.
Make sure that you do breastfeed during the night. Long breaks between each feeding session will cause your body to revert to its old cycle.
FAQs
Can I Become Pregnant While Breastfeeding, If My Period Has Returned?
Getting your periods after pregnancy while breastfeeding is a sign that your body has started to ovulate again as before your pregnancy. Every month, an egg is released by your ovaries, and your uterus thickens in preparation for a pregnancy. When the egg is not fertilised, the egg and the lining of the uterus is expelled. This is known as menstruation. Since your body is releasing eggs that can be fertilised, you can also get pregnant if you are not using any contraception. Talk to your doctor about viable contraceptive methods while you are breastfeeding.
How Can I Cope with Period Pains?
Make sure that you are getting your daily recommended dose of minerals especially magnesium and calcium. These minerals will ease the pain and tenderness associated with periods. You must discuss the same with your doctor and ask for which supplements will safe for you and your baby during breastfeeding. You can also use other coping methods that you normally would during your periods such as using a hot compress on your lower back and abdomen. You must also walk around a little as it eases up cramping.
Are Irregular Periods during Breastfeeding Normal?
Irregular periods while breastfeeding is perfectly normal and common. The stimulation of the nipple causes a change in the hormones produced that increase milk production and suppressed the menstrual cycle.
Can Periods Vanish and Then Return Again?
Having irregular periods while breastfeeding is a completely normal occurrence. You can miss a few periods while breastfeeding, and this is okay. You should consult your doctor if you are concerned about missing your period. Be sure that you have an effective contraceptive method in place in order to avoid any unwanted pregnancies.
Will the Return of My Menstrual Cycle Mean That I'll Produce Less Milk?
Some women do experience lesser milk production a few days before menstruation. You should ask your healthcare provider about taking natural supplements in order to increase your milk supply during those days.
Will I Need to Wean My Baby Because of Change in Milk Taste?
A change in breast milk taste due to menstruation does not mean that you will have to wean. This change will not last for many days. Consult with your doctor about these changes.
Getting your period during breastfeeding is common. Make sure that you talk to a healthcare provider about the various changes that come with menstruating while breastfeeding.

Rain is nature's way of cleaning and refreshing everything. It's no wonder most people get overjoyed seeing thick clouds. They enjoy the pitter-patter of raindrops, the earthy smell as rain falls, the drenched trees and buildings. Rain is like a sudden party with family and friends getting together to enjoy a hot beverage with fritters. When out, people enjoy the rain from under their colorful umbrellas, feeling the uplifting ambiance around them. For kids, rain means a beautiful time to get drenched with friends, jump in the puddles, and enjoy nature in all its glory. So, it's obvious there are numerous poems written on rain and all things associated with rain.
Poems About Rain for Children
Poems are the most engaging and enjoyable way to teach young kids new words, sentence formation, and fluency. Rain poem in English is one the most exciting ways used by teachers and parents to teach kids word association and improve their vocabulary. Rain poems for preschoolers use various properties that rain offers to symbolize different emotions. Parents can teach them a rain acrostic poem to challenge the kid's imagination and teach them how rain can symbolize multiple emotions such as joy, sorrow, anger, etc.
Some rain poems for children are:
1. Summer Rain by Elizabeth Coatsworth
What could be lovelier than to hear the summer rain
Cutting across the heat, as scythes cutting across grain?
Falling upon the steaming roof with sweet uproar,
Tapping and rapping wildly at the door?
No, do not lift the latch, but through the pane
We'll stand and watch the circus pageant
Of the rain,
And see the lightening, like a tiger, striped and dread,
And hear the thunder cross the shaken sky
With elephant tread.
2. April Rain Song by Langston Hughes
Let the rain kiss you
Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops
Let the rain sing you a lullaby
The rain makes still pools on the sidewalk
The rain makes running pools in the gutter
The rain plays a little sleep song on our roof at night
And I love the rain.
3. The Water Cycle by Helen H. Moore
When I was young, I used to think,
That water came from the kitchen sink.
But now I'm older, and I know,
That water comes from rain and snow.
It stays there, waiting in the sky,
In clouds above our world so high.
And when it falls, it flows along,
And splashes out a watery song,
as each raindrop is joined by more
And rushes to the ocean shore,
or to a lake, a brook, a stream,
From which it rises, just like steam.
But while it's down here, what do you think?
Some DOES go to the kitchen sink!
4. The Rain by Ruby Archer
He is coming the gentle Rain,
Riding his steed, the wind;
And over the dusty plain
Where grasses thirstily pined
Floats a sigh—
"He is nigh!"
And the thunder grumbles his name
To the lightning's questioning glance;
While the air, like a restless flame,
Quivers and glows and pants
With the cry—
"He is nigh!"
5. Rain Music by Joseph Seamon Cotter
On the dusty earth-drum
Beats the falling rain;
Now a whispered murmur,
Now a louder strain.
Slender, silvery drumsticks,
On an ancient drum,
Beat the mellow music
Bidding life to come.
Chords of earth awakened,
Notes of greening spring,
Rise and fall triumphant
Over everything.
Slender, silvery drumsticks
Beat the long tattoo—
God, the Great Musician,
Calling life anew.
6. Before the Rain by Thomas Bailey Aldrich
We knew it would rain, for all the morn
A spirit on slender ropes of mist
Was lowering its golden buckets down
Into the vapory amethyst.
Of marshes and swamps and dismal fens—
Scooping the dew that lay in the flowers,
Dipping the jewels out of the sea,
To sprinkle them over the land in showers.
We knew it would rain, for the poplars showed
The white of their leaves, the amber grain
Shrunk in the wind—and the lightning now
Is tangled in tremulous skeins of rain!
7. Rain by Robert Louis Stevenson
The rain is raining all around,
It falls on field and tree,
It rains on the umbrellas here,
And on the ships at sea.
8. Rhyme by Elizabeth Coatsworth
I like to see a thunderstorm,
A dunder storm,
A blunder storm,
I like to see it, black and slow,
Come stumbling down the hill.
I like to hear a thunderstorm,
A plunder storm,
A wonder storm,
Roar loudly at our little house
And shake the window sills!
9. Rain in Summer by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
How beautiful is the rain!
After the dust and heat,
In the broad and fiery street,
In the narrow lane,
How beautiful is the rain!
How it clatters along the roofs
Like the tramp of hoofs!
How it gushes and struggles out
From the throat of the overflowing spout!
Across the window-pane
It pours and pours;
And swift and wide,
With a muddy tide,
Like a river down the gutter roars
The rain, the welcome rain!
10. The Rain by Tree Cards
I take and give and
give and take
I origin from the land
where there is a lake
I fall as drops
and falter over leaves
I'll wet the throat of the crops
and through the leaves I reaches the hives
I take and give and
give and take
I end in a land
from which I wake
11. Rain Poem by Elizabeth Coatsworth
The rain was like a little mouse,
Quiet, small, and gray,
It pattered all around the house
And then it went away.
It did not come, I understand,
Indoors at all, until,
It found an open window and
Left tracks across the sill.
12. Rain, Rain, April Rain by Annette Wynne
Rain, rain, April rain,
Washing tree and window pane,
Tapping every spot of ground,
Lest some sleepy seed be found;
I can watch you and be gay
Though I cannot go to play.
Rain, rain, April rain,
Washer of the hill and plain,
Summer could not be so gay
If it did not rain today,
And it's fun to stay inside
And see you falling far and wide.
13. Rain by Sir Charles G.D. Roberts
Sharp drives the rain, sharp drives the endless rain.
The rain-winds wake and wander, lift and blow.
The slow smoke-wreaths of vapor to and fro
Wave, and unweave, and gather and build again.
Over the far gray reaches of the plain—
Gray miles on miles my passionate thought must go,—
I strain my sight, grown dim with gazing so,
Pressing my face against the streaming pane.
How the rain beats! Ah God, if love had power
To voice its utmost yearning, even tho'
Thro' time and bitter distance, not in vain,
Surely Her heart would hear me at this hour,
Look thro' the years, and see! But would She know
The white face pressed against the streaming pane?
14. Woodland Rain by Bliss Carman
Shining, shining children
Of the summer rain,
Racing down the valley,
Sweeping o'er the plain!
Rushing through the forest,
Pelting on the leaves,
Drenching down the meadow
With its standing sheaves;
Robed in royal silver,
Girt with jewels gay,
With a gust of gladness
You pass upon your way.
Fresh, ah, fresh behind you,
Sunlit and impearled,
As it was in Eden,
Lies the lovely world!

On World Blood Donor Day - Learn About the Benefits of Being a Donor
Donating blood is a small gesture that can have a monumental impact on the lives of several people. If you are a blood donor or are thinking of becoming one, this World Blood Donor Day, learn all about the importance and objectives of donating blood.
When is World Blood Donor Day Celebrated?
World Blood Donor Day is celebrated on June 14th. It was established as one of the eight global health public campaigns by WHO (World Health Organisation) in 2004. This day promotes the maintenance of hygiene and special care of blood-related medical activities.
Objectives of World Blood Donor Day
The idea of celebrating such a day arises purely out of the immense gratitude that we extend as a whole, towards the global voluntary community. Individuals who go out of their way to save a life with their merciful act of blood donation are no less than any martyr. This day honours the warriors of one of the toughest wars waged by mankind.
Extending gratefulness across the planet towards voluntary blood donors.
Spreading awareness about blood-related disorders, through the massive outreach of WHO.
Spreading awareness regarding the urgency of blood donation.
Outlining the importance of healthy blood donation habits.
Highlighting the requirement of disease-free blood for a healthy future.
Benefits of Blood Donation
Blood donation is not just about saving lives and helping humanity take a step forward with better health. This is also about you and the benefits you receive, merely out of the genuine act of donation. Here are the health benefits of donating blood that you didn’t know you could enjoy:
1. Health Check-Ups All the Way!
Did you know that every time you head out for blood donation, you get auto-enrolled for a health check-up? Well, this is to primarily monitor that the donor is healthy and capable of blood donation. However, it does reap the benefit of a free health check-up every once in a while, if you are a regular blood donor. It also allows one to identify any major potential health risks or the possibility of any blood-disorder.
2. Shell Out the Iron Reserves
It is known that donating blood can be a healthy and safe way to get rid of the excess store of iron. A disorder known as Hemochromatosis is caused due to an excess of iron in the body. Though the condition is rare, who could have thought, that a simple act of kindness could alleviate serious health issues?
3. Save Our Souls from Cancer
Research found that many cancer patients have comparatively higher levels of iron than others. Regular blood donation can monitor and improve health levels by drastic margins and it is only a matter of time before you may achieve excellent health.
4. Cardiac Arrests No More
Excess iron in the blood can immediately cause blood vessels to constrict. These constrictions then lead to cardiovascular health conditions and possible cardiac arrests. Therefore, a reduction in iron levels could do no harm. Go for it! Do yourself a favour and donate some healthy blood for a healthier life.
5. A Happy World Makes a Happy Mind
Just like pain and misery can induce psychosomatic disorders like asthma, an act of kindness and a selfless deed induces joy and satisfaction, which thereby create a great psychological environment. Peace and harmony dwell in the hearts of voluntary donors who bear in mind that they are making the world a better place to live in.
Are There Disadvantages of Donating Blood?
Blood donation certainly has more advantages over disadvantages. However, just like any coin has two sides to it, the disadvantages of blood donation can’t be neglected and must be borne in mind, when preparing oneself mentally to become a donor. It is essential to point out here, though, that these drawbacks are minor and certainly manageable over a period of time. These are as follows:
1. Prick of a Needle
You are bound to face the prick of a needle as the doctor inserts the blood drawing instrument into your arm. This prick is minute and lasts only for a second. However, if you’ve never taken injections before, it could be a bit startling.
2. Incessant Bleeding
Once you have donated blood and all the medical gear has been removed, you must note that there is no continued bleeding from the concerned area. It might bleed for a while, which can be taken care of by folding your arm or indirectly applying pressure to the area. If the bleeding continues, though, this must not be neglected. Consult your medical care unit immediately.
3. Nauseous Experience
For a few donors, this experience may be nauseating. Sudden loss of blood may lead to this feeling, but it is only temporary and can be easily dealt with.
4. Dizzy and Tired Feeling
Despite there being medical laws in place for drawing only a specific amount of blood from any donor, it is difficult to predict how each person's body will react, post donation, even with optimal measures taken. Therefore, some may feel tremendously dizzy and tired, as a significant amount of blood leaves the body.
5. Tiny Scar
If you despise scars, you must note that there will arise a temporary scar on your arm, in the area where the needle is pierced. This is not worrisome and will fade away with time, once your body has dealt with the impact.
FAQs
Here are some common questions that pop up when people opt for blood donation the first time.
1. How Often Can I Donate Blood?
A minimum of two months, or in other words, eight weeks is the recommended pause between two whole blood donation activities. The body must be given optimum time to recover from one donation and remain healthy enough for the upcoming donation.
2. How Much Blood Can I Donate?
About 8% of the volume of an average adult’s blood content is considered optimum for donation at once. This is generally about 470ml. However, it also largely depends on your medical parameters and history, to determine the appropriate volume that you can donate.
3. Who is Eligible for Donating Blood?
One must be at least 18 years of age to donate blood and be in good health. People diseased with AIDS, Syphilis, Hepatitis A-B, etc., are strictly disallowed from the donation. These can be detected through nucleic acid testing. The minimum weight one must carry to be a healthy donor is about 45-50 kilograms. It is preferable to have normal levels of sugar, blood pressure, pulse rate, and body temperature to be a successful donor.
On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, we wish you a very happy experience and earnestly hope that this article spreads great awareness amongst all responsible citizens of the planet, towards humanity.

All about Various Types of Skin Problems in Newborns
Babies with their sensitive skins are prone to many types of skin problems. These can get serious if not handled properly. Know about the various techniques that can be adopted to keep them safe from skin irritations.
Sudden change in the environment, from the protective mother’s womb to the hazardous outside world can cause your little one to become prone to many dangers. One such common problem is that of the most sensitive part, that is the skin. Rashes, blotches, patches, etc. all are potential dangers to your baby's fragile body and parents must take preventive measures to keep such skin diseases at bay. It is important to deal with them before they develop into something more dangerous.
Types of Skin Problems in Newborns
1. Cradle cap
These are yellow, thick and greasy patches on the scalp of babies. They tend to clear off on their own within 6 months of birth. However, for precautionary methods from your end, wash the baby’s head with mild shampoo and lukewarm water. Use a soft-bristled brush to gently rub it off. If the patches resist to go, consult a doctor.
2. Acne on the face
Red and white bumps on the face of the baby signify the onset of acne. This condition that takes place within the very first month of the birth can be due to exposure of the baby to maternal hormones during pregnancy. These bumps clear off within a few days, but make sure to clean the face with mild soap and water frequently. However, if it persists, consult the doctor for a more targeted treatment.
3. Heat rashes
They are dark red spots that appear on the baby’s skin. Most of them result due to the high humidity levels during summer or overdressing the baby. They disappear sooner or later on their own. However, it is suggested to keep the baby in a cooler environment with light, comfortable clothes on.
4. Baby eczema
Rough fabrics or bubble baths can cause itchy and scaly skin that makes the baby uncomfortable. They also ooze and crust, making the surface of skin red and messy. The best way is to keep the baby away from higher temperature that can irk their skin. Give them proper baths and use good moisturizing baby creams.
5. Impetigo
This is a common skin infection that makes the skin of your baby’s diaper area, scabby and blistery. It is caused by the staphylococci bacteria entering the little one’s system through his skin. It is usually of two types: non-bullous - when a yellow-crusted thick scab forms with a lot of redness, and bullous - when blisters with fluid form on the skin. The best way to prevent them is by keeping the diaper area dry and clean. Parents need to be careful about this, as it tends to spread in other body parts.
Now that you are aware of the various type of rashes or skin diseases that may cause a potential danger to your baby, take the necessary steps and keep them at bay. However, if you see that they persist for a prolonged period then it is important to seek expert help. Remember, not to give your baby any medicine without doctor’s consultation. Read more

A Lesson, Life Tought Me, About Itself Is Worth Sharing.
We had been recently transferred to this place. This new place was a small town. The pride of the town is a hill owning a height of around five hundred feet. The hill crowns a fort on its top which is a kind of tourist spot. Even so, being at a distance from the city the town had a lifestyle of a village.
We moved to the new but rented apartment. The flat was constructed in such a way that the view from the hall, kitchen, and one of the bedrooms was this majestic hill which at the few first views was very captivating. There was no obstruction for the view, air, and sunlight as most dwelling places were individual houses. Even so, being previously attached to the city-style life, I was finding it arduous to get acquainted with this new way of living. Every day I would look at the hill. People would be climbing it. sometimes I find some goats being up there. But I never find the hill being standing alone or being deprived of any company. I always wondered how much time it might be taking people to reach the fort. But I have no memory of my strong inclination to climb it.
As mother nature changes her look, the hill would robe itself accordingly. I would watch it on full moon nights when the moon would rise behind the fort. In the time of sunset, the crimson red sky behind the hill would be picturesque. On rainy days the white cloud-covered hill would be enough to bring the feeling of any hill station vacation. In winter the fog would cover it like a aureole. Gradually I had constant nascent thoughts about how everything might be looking from such a great height. Would the moon look a little bigger or how the queen would be experiencing up there in all seasons. I would often say that I wanted to be there at the top but I never really could believe that actually, I would be there someday. I had my restrictions. My daughter was three years old and was completely dependent on me. we would have our parents with us but only for some time as we were far from our native place.
So one day I planned to get a closer look at the hill. It was just one kilometre away from my home. I've always had its view from outside. We reached there. having some heritage values, the hill is being taken care of by the govt. Reaching there I came to know that the visiting time was over. So we could not get tickets for ourselves but the guard allowed us to be there at the foot of the hill. It was really enjoyable. The area was quite large. There were stairs for going up. my daughter urged me to go up but I convinced her we would come next time because that day's time for the visit was over. She understood and we returned from there.
Next Sunday we again reached there but a little early. I always get water bottle and snacks for my daughter but never got prepared for ourselves because in my wildest dreams I never believed that we were going to climb up there. This time we got tickets and we started climbing stairs. My daughter with her father was climbing ahead of me. she was so excited that she would not look back.
“Let's go. We have climbed enough.” I said.
“No, mama. Let's climb.” She would reply.
Her father would suggest going a little up and then to return. I was getting it difficult to breathe under the mask. So occasionally they would remove it but the father-daughter duo not for a second would remove the mask. This way all of us climbed up to three fourth of the height. At this height, the hill had a large plain surface where one can rest for some time. The breeze was cool and the view of the city from the top was impressive. There was a lotus pond in the way where the road lies ahead for the fort. We took a rest there. my daughter had some snacks and water there. there was no source of any food or beverage up there. also, the number of visitors was very few. My daughter was the youngest visitor among all. Still, she was insisting to go up there. Her father was a little hesitant considering she was too young to climb such a height. But ultimately he agreed. He decided to carry her and march ahead. The fort was not very far. It was closer than the distance we had already covered. But the road was steep. Somehow we managed to reach there. It was dusk and the sun was in preparation to leave. When we reached there, we felt it was very worth coming. At the same time, we also realized that it was our daughter for which we were at the top. The reason I was considering a limitation was the reason behind liberation.
Life always works mysteriously. Sometimes when we least expect something, things happen. The mechanism of the universe is beyond human imagination. All I did was cultivate a desire and wish it to happen. The rest was taken care of.
