When and how should you start 'Toilet Training' your little one?
Being a mother of two little boys one of the major challenges that I faced was Toilet Training.Being a novice to parenting ,when my first born arrived in the world I didn't start toilet training him really early and took things in an easy way.As a result he ended up using diapers (day and night) till 15 months of age and using diapers in the night for an even longer period of time.Potty trainig became a major issue and we could literally not potty train him till he turned 2.3.It made things really tough and messy. As a lesson learnt, I was more cautious when my younger one was born. I started making him sit on a potty trainer seat as early as he was able to sit all by himself i.e by the time he was 8 months old.As soon as he woke up in the morning, I used to give him some water and then made him sit on a potty seat (there were lots of options on firstcry, A bought a luvlap seat for him).To keep him involved I used to talk to him or give him a toy that kept him engrossed so that he literally sat for a while till the job was done.I kept praciticing this regime for a week and hola! that was it.He gradually got into the practice of pooping early morning on his potty trainer seat.I made sure to get him rid of his diapers throughout the day and made him pee every hour or so.Gradually the little one developed a habit of making a sound to indicate whenever he wanted to use the toilet and that was it.We got rid of diapers really soon and my little guy was well trained by his first birthday. Now that he is 1.3 I have got another toilet seat for him that fits on our normal toilet seat and since he is already used to sitting on the potty trainer , making him sit on the actual toilet seat was not at all difficult.Kids are quick learners but all they need is a routine and they get into the habit really soon.Hope the article helps out all the mamas and daddas out there , Happy Toilet Training !!!A word of caution:1.Don't make your child sit on a potty trainer unless they are capable of sitting by themselves.2. Never ever leave a child unattended while they are seated on a potty trainer.3.Make sure the potty trainer that you buy has no sharp sides or edges. Read more

Social Stories for Kids with Autism - How They Help
Usually, kids with autism tend to generalise one experience with another similar one, which is why a new situation can prove to be quite overwhelming from them. Social stories prepare kids with autism to handle a social event or situation appropriately. Social skill stories for autism are highly emphasised on for improving one’s social skills.
What Are Social Stories?
A social story is a short story which breaks down any new or complex situation into easy-to-understand steps using highly accurate and descriptive information. It answers the 5Ws, i.e. who, what, where, when and why of a social situation using graphic and written information.
The aim of using social stories is to teach a different set of skills to children with autism, such as taking relevant cues in a particular situation, perceiving rules, routines, situations, abstract concepts or events, etc. Social stories help kids to expect the series of events (what comes next) in a social situation and prepare them for executive functioning (planning and organising).
History of Social Stories
The concept of social stories was designed by Carol Gray in 1991. During her career as a teacher, she began to experiment on her idea of 'social stories' to help her autistic students interact well in school-related activities which she aced over the years.
The terms ‘social story’ and ‘social stories’ are a trademark designed and fully patented by Carol Gray.

Ultimately, by understanding how one’s actions result have a certain impact on others, it prompts the development of empathy in kids.
3. Communicative skills
A social story tends to impart information and instructions as clearly and accurately as possible. When kids are given clear instructions, they know how to act or follow through on rules or patterns under such a situation in reality. It adds to the development of their communicative skills.
4. Clear understanding
A social story is individualised as every kid is unique in their own way. They all have different levels of understanding and experience. So when a social story is based on their current understanding and experience level, it leverages their learning skills by deepening their understanding level.
5. Development of literacy skills

Teaching children to perform a simple task like removing their shoes and placing them on the shoe rack.
Helping kids prepare for a complex event such as organising a birthday party, which includes social expectations.
Assisting children in comprehending and reacting to facial expressions, vocal tones or body language.
