Skin-care Secrets to Keep Your Skin Healthy During Your Pregnancy
Roma picked up the pregnancy test kit and dashed out of the bathroom screaming with joy! Her husband, clueless, almost had a heart attack when she darted out, banging the door behind her. Tears of joy rolled down her cheeks as she showed him the two pink lines. “I’m pregnant!” she said excitedly.
Roma and her husband did everything in their capacity to ensure their baby was healthy. But in the process, Roma ignored her skin. By the time their baby was born, she was troubled with skin issues, some of them irreversible.
Many to-be-moms overlook their skin during pregnancy and wonder how some mothers happen to have a radiant, healthy glow. If you are expecting and don’t want to end up like Roma, we have a bunch of skin-care secrets that can help maintain your skin health during those nine months! Read on to know what they are!
Skin-Care Secrets to Keep Your Skin Healthy During Your Pregnancy
What you eat and drink is what reflects on your skin. So, without a doubt, you should consume a healthy diet and keep yourself hydrated. But, skin during pregnancy can be a bit more demanding than usual.
Here’s that little extra you can do to maintain healthy skin while your body prepares to birth your little one:
1. Mild All the Way
As your pregnancy progresses, your skin may not be able to tolerate the same old personal care products you used every day before conceiving. You could develop an aversion to your favourite fragrances that, in the first place, were why you bought your favourite shower or personal care products. Or they could lead to skin rashes or irritation as your body embraces different changes during the term. You may then switch to mild soaps and shampoos with nourishing properties to keep your skin, scalp, and hair clean.
2. Moisturise Every Day
Most skin issues arise due to dry skin during pregnancy, which leads to loss of skin elasticity and the development of stretch marks. While the likelihood of developing stretch marks varies on the age, heredity, diet, and hydration of the skin, about 50-90% of pregnant women are prone to developing them.
In this case, a clinically proven oil for scars and stretch marks that doubles up for a good moisturiser, such as Bio-Oil, can help you nourish your skin. Bio-Oil is enriched with plant extracts, lavender oil, and rosemary oil that help soothe the skin, restore its elasticity and plumpness, and improve the appearance of uneven skin tone and mottled pigmentation. All you have to do is apply generous amounts of Bio-Oil twice a day all over your body, focussing on the areas that are likely to develop stretch marks, such as the tummy, buttocks, breasts, arms, and thighs, and within 12 weeks, you will notice a considerable improvement in your skin.
You may read the product ingredients carefully and consult an expert before using it during pregnancy.
3. Block the Harmful Rays of the Sun
If your skin-care routine already includes using sunscreen, continue using it even during your pregnancy. If not, get one that suits your need and apply it after your daily moisturiser. Sunscreen lotions can protect the skin from the harmful rays of the sun, which could lead to wrinkles, dark spots, premature ageing, etc. At times, some moms notice that their skin responds differently to the same products they absolutely trusted. It is then advisable to consult a dermatologist and seek a good sunscreen that sits on the skin and protects it from harmful sun rays.
4. Pampering Massage
As the baby grows, you would notice your body requires extra care to keep it toned and rejuvenated. You are likely to experience body aches and feel tired frequently. Your feet and back might give up after hours of running errands or working from your desk. The hectic schedule might lead to headaches and even sleepless nights.
This calls for an oil massage that can relieve the stress in your muscles and help you relax.
A gentle massage using Bio-Oil can help you tone those tired muscles and feel rejuvenated in no time. Bio-Oil is formulated for quick absorption and has firming and toning qualities that can help prepare your skin for the later stages of pregnancy, especially to reduce the appearance of stretch marks. Its mild fragrance and soothing properties could also calm those pregnancy nerves, allowing you to enjoy your pregnancy to the fullest. If you’re looking for a deep moisturising oil that is light and non-sticky, look no further!
In fact, Bio-Oil is a one-time investment that tackles a number of issues! Several pregnant women and mothers across the world can vouch for its many uses that go beyond reduction of stretch marks. Let’s take a look at them.
10 Uses of Bio-Oil You Didn’t Know About!
Who wouldn’t like to use products that provide multiple benefits? Here are some ways Bio-Oil can be used as:
1. As a restorative treatment for brittle and damaged hair.
Hello, shiny lustrous hair!
2. To soothe plucked eyebrows and reduce redness.
No more red, bumpy post threading patches.
As a primer to thin out foundation.
For smoother application and full coverage.
To reduce dark circles.
For all those sleepless nights with your little one that are coming up.
As a nail and cuticle treatment.
When there’s no time for regular manicures, why not!

With these tips, you would have one less thing to worry about during and after your pregnancy.

When Can Newborn Babies See - Vision Development Stages
Your little bundle of joy has arrived, and as a new mommy, you may wonder what your baby can see. Well! The answer is- Not much! But by the time your baby is ready to blow off the first birthday candle, your baby will be able to see more clearly. Know more about how your newborn baby sees and various vision development stages in the following article.
When Do Babies Start To See?
Your baby can see soon after birth, but the vision is not clear. Your baby’s eyesight will make gradual progress in the first year after birth. You may notice that your baby may get more attracted to highly contrasting colours, but the ability to interpret and process various colours is not fully developed. While vision is present at birth, your baby’s brain cannot handle such complicated information at this stage. The development of a newborn baby’s vision starts somewhere around 20/400, and it may become 20/20 by the time your baby is three to five years old.
When Do Babies See Colour?
Your newborn's eyesight is not developed enough to differentiate between various colours. You may have to wait a little longer for your baby to develop that skill; however, you may notice that your baby reacts or responds to high-contrasting, black and white toys or objects. Within few weeks after birth, your baby’s vision will strengthen, and he/she will be able to see different colours. It is also observed that young babies (three months and above) respond well to green, red, yellow and blue colours. By the time your baby touches five-month benchmark; your baby will have a better-coloured vision.
Stages of Vision Development n Babies
The development of vision in your baby is gradual, and it is divided into following stages:
Newborn baby eyesight at birth
Your newborn baby can focus on objects that are approximately eight to ten inches away from the eyes. But at this stage, your baby will not be able to move eyes from one object to another.
At birth, the nerve cells of your baby’s brain and eyes are yet to develop, and your baby is only able to see things which are white, black or grey.
Newborn babies have a refractive error in their eyes. However, this gets rectified on its own as your baby grows. As your baby’s retina develops, you may notice your baby closing and blinking eyes, when exposed to brighter lights.
Your doctor will examine your newborn baby to see any signs of congenital disorders. Your doctor may even prescribe eye drops for your baby’s eyes to ward off any eye infections.
Birth- 2 months
Your baby’s brain is unable to process the visual images; therefore when you look or smile at your baby, your baby will give you blank expressions.
Your baby at this stage will have foggy eyesight. To grab your baby’s attention, you will have to use bigger and vibrant coloured objects.
Few weeks after birth, you will find that your baby’s eyes remain open for longer durations. This is because the pupil is developing and allowing more light to enter.
Your baby is likely to differentiate between primary colours such as blue, red and green. But your baby’s vision is still not strong enough to figure out differences between colours which are close to each other, like red and orange.
Your baby will have a good peripheral vision, which means your baby will be able to focus on things which are two to three feet away from your baby’s eyes.
You may notice your baby making funny eye movements (crossing or squinting eyes), which is very normal. Your baby is learning to focus.
2-4 months
By this time your baby can see and differentiate between colours. This means your baby’s world is becoming more colourful.
Your baby can focus on objects, and if you move or shift an object that is nearby to your baby, your baby’s eye will move along with it. Your baby’s tracking skills are developing during this age bracket.
Your baby’s eyes and brain will have better coordination. This will help in gaining depth perception, which means your baby, will be able to establish how near or far various objects are.
Towards the end of the fourth month, your baby will have a better vision of distant objects. If you place your baby in front of a window, your baby will look beyond the glass pane.
4-8 months
By the time your baby is five months old; your baby will have a robust coloured vision.
Your baby will remember familiar objects and faces and will react to it. During this time frame, your baby’s object familiarity and depth perception will develop further.
Towards the end of the eighth month, you will notice your baby’s vision is more like an adult. If you try to move things in front of your baby, your baby will register it.
9-12 months
The colour of your baby’s eyes will remain the way it is at this stage, for the rest of your baby’s life.
Your baby’s vision is almost like an adult, which means that your baby has well-developed depth perception and colour vision.
Your baby will have a better eye and muscle coordination by this time. Though the muscle movements by this age will not be that sturdy your baby will have a well-developed vision.
By the time your baby is one year old; your baby’s vision is as good as an adult’s vision. Your baby can recognise familiar objects and faces, differentiate between colours, see distant objects and can also notice nearer and farther objects.
One to two year old
During this stage, your baby will develop better eye-hand coordination. Along with this, your baby’s depth perception will improve further.
Around this age, your baby will become- a little explorer, wanting to see and touch any object that looks interesting. Your baby will also look and listen to you carefully.
Your doctor may guide you through various stages of the baby eyesight development. If you notice anything unusual regarding your baby’s eyesight or vision, you should seek immediate medical help.
Signs of baby eyesight problems
Your baby eyesight starts to develop as soon after birth. Therefore you need to be careful at every stage. Following may be some of the signs of vision problems in babies:
If your baby is not focusing: In case your baby is not able to focus by the time your baby is four months old, and your baby’s eyes keep wandering, you should get in touch with your doctor.
If your baby shuts eyes too often: You may notice that your baby is closing eyes to brighter lights or whenever you step out in the sun, your baby may have issues related to the retina or eye pressure.
If your baby’s pupils appear white: In case you notice any white spot in your baby’s pupils, you should seek medical help. The appearance of white spots could a sign of a severe eye problem (cataract, cancer or other serious conditions).
If your baby’s eyes are often tearing: You may notice your baby’s eyes being wet and teary most of the times. This may happen due to blocked tear ducts. Your doctor will guide you how to manage this condition.
If your baby’s eyes are red or swollen: Your baby’s eyes may become red or swollen, this condition is indicative of some infection. You should get medical help.
Whenever you notice any of the problems as mentioned earlier, it is advised to get in touch with your baby’s doctor. Timely medical intervention can ward off significant complications.
Premature Baby Eyesight Development
Babies who are born preterm or are premature babies do not have well-developed organs, and the same applies in case of eyes. The preterm babies have slower visual development in comparison to full term babies. A premature baby is at a higher risk of having eyesight complications or problems such as retinopathy. This condition may damage the retina of a premature baby. This condition may result from the overuse of oxygen for premature babies because of underdeveloped lungs. More amount of oxygen disrupts the development of blood vessels that supply blood to the retina. Though this condition can lead to severe complications, but with timely medical intervention, medication and care, it can be treated.
Proper care of a premature baby’s eyes will help in healthy eyesight development without any complications.
Tips to improve newborn's eyesight
Following tips may prove to be beneficial in improving your baby’s eyesight during various stages:
Birth -2 months: You may do the following things at this stage:
You should refrain from exposing your baby to brighter lights. It is recommended to put dim lights in your baby’s room.
You should make use of high contrast objects and toys for your baby. Do not place them too close or too far from your baby. Place them around eight to ten inches away from your baby.
You should make eye contacts while breastfeeding and make sure you breastfeed from both the breasts so that your baby can see you through both the eyes.
You may play stare game with your baby. Place your baby seven to eight inches away from you and when your baby is looking at you, slowly move from one side to another. This is one of the best exercises for your baby’s eyes.
By the time your baby turns two months, you should make eye contact with your baby. Try to talk and smile; this will help your baby to practice eye focus.
2 to 4 Months Old Baby
At this stage, your baby’s colour vision is at a developmental stage. It will be a good idea to introduce colourful toys and objects to your baby.
Making or buying a baby gym that has dangling colourful toys will help your baby to learn eye control.
4 to 8 Months Old Baby
You may give colourful blocks or other bright objects to your baby to play with.
To stimulate a visual response, you may play hide and seek games with your baby.
You baby will get attracted to vibrant patterns and colours. Therefore it will be a good idea to grab your baby’s visual attention by giving toys in bright colours.
4. 9 to 12 Months Old Baby
Introduce baby to a game of Hide and Seek. You could even use some of the baby’s toys to make the activity fun
Crawling helps the baby develop coordination. Encourage activities where the child need to crawl, rather than walk
Toys which can be stacked and taken apart help develop visual memory
Watching older siblings or friends playing, encourages the baby to imitate them and improve vision
When should you call the doctor?
It is recommended that you take your baby for regular eye check-ups as regular monitoring reduces the chances of complications that may arise due to neglect or late detection. Following are some of the conditions that may require immediate or timely medical intervention:
Lazy eye or amblyopia: Lazy eye or amblyopia is a condition that occurs when the eyesight of one of the eyes is lost due to restricted or lack of usage. This syndrome may arise because of various reasons, such as crossed eye or lack of eye-brain coordination. This condition can get tricky as it becomes difficult to detect this problem. However, regular eye check-ups will assure timely diagnose and treatment.
Blocked tear ducts: Blocked tear ducts is a pervasive problem in infants. This condition may make the baby’s eyes red and swollen. This condition requires immediate medical help because your baby’s immune system is not fully developed and blocked tear ducts is the apt place for the bacteria to breed. Your doctor may prescribe antibiotics to control the infection.
Cataracts in babies: Sometimes babies are born with cloudiness in the lens of the eye. This rare condition is known as a cataract. However, this condition may be noted immediately after birth or later during paediatric visits. Your doctor may advise surgery to cure this eye condition. The procedure followed for cataract surgery for babies is similar to that used for adults.
Retinopathy: This eye condition occurs in babies who are born preterm or prematurely. The blood vessels that supply blood to the retina may get damaged due to the disrupted flow of oxygen. The doctor can figure out this condition during an ophthalmic examination.
Squint or crossed eyes: Uptil four months of age your baby’s eyes may appear to wander independently or move without co-ordination, which is very normal. But if you notice that after five to six months or even later, your baby’s eyes are misaligned then it could mean that your baby has strabismus. Strabismus is a condition, in which your baby may have crossed or squinting eyes. If you notice this in your baby, you should get medical help.
Ptosis: This is a problem of the eyelids which may cause eyelids to droop involuntarily. Some babies are born with this condition because of weak eyelid muscles. Though ptosis in itself may not cause any problem to the vision of a baby, it may lead to lazy eye syndrome or amblyopia, which may cause vision problems. A surgical procedure can rectify this condition in babies.
You should get in touch with your doctor if you have any concerns regarding the baby eyesight at one month or later stages.
Eyes are one of the most delicate organs in your baby’s body. Therefore it becomes essential to take care of them from birth. In case you notice anything abnormal or unusual with your baby’s eyes, you should take your baby to the doctor.

2 tbsp Honey
4 tbsp Olive Oil
Shower Cap

2. Baking Soda Hair Mask
You can say goodbye to dry hair if you start using this hair mask, but, it is crucial that you use the correct amount of baking soda while making it as baking soda is a chemical too. Used in substantial amounts, baking soda will help maintain the proper pH levels in your hair, will retain moisture and will stop your scalp from flaking off dead skin.
What You Need:
1/4 cup Baking Soda
1/2 cup Conditioner
Plastic Bag
Hot Towel
Process:
Blend the baking soda and hair conditioner in a bowl until you get a well-combined mixture. Apply the mix from the roots to the tips of your hair. Cover your hair with a plastic bag and wrap a hot towel over it. Keep the mask for an hour and then rinse off the mixture with cold water. Repeat this process once a month to see the desired results.
3. Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Mask
Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) has many other benefits apart from being an excellent dressing for your salads. After you’ve balanced out the pH levels in your hair, its time to give your hair an acidic rinse. Even though ACV is alkaline inside the body, it's acidic when you use it on your body. ACV removes the gunk and dirt from your hair and is also used as a natural cleansing agent.
What You Need:
2 tbsp. Apple Cider Vinegar
1 cup Water
Process:
This is a hair mask that you have to apply after washing your hair. Dilute the apple cider vinegar with one cup of water in a jug. Set the mixture aside and wash your hair with your regular sulphate-free shampoo. Condition your hair and pour the ACV mixture over your wet hair. Gently massage it on your scalp and keep it for a while. Wash off the concoction with a final cold water rinse.
4. Mayonnaise and Egg Hair Mask
I’m sure you are familiar with egg and mayo sandwiches, but the duo is capable of much more. This homemade conditioner is perfect for chemically treated hair. Mayonnaise has properties which are very similar to the store-bought masks. It contains oil that retains moisture in your hair and also prevents breakage. Even though mayonnaise contains a small amount of egg, adding more eggs to the mask, makes it more nutritious for your hair. Eggs are high in protein and help to thicken and strengthen hair. If you are someone, who takes a trip to your hair colouring expert every three months, then this mask is ideal for you. Chemically treated hair tends to have damaged cuticles and causing the colour to bleed and hence fade faster. This mask will repair your cuticles and retain the colour on your hair for a longer time.
What You Need:
2 Whole Eggs
5 tbsp. Mayonnaise
1 tsp. Olive Oil
Process:
Beat the eggs and mayonnaise in a bowl until the mixture is lump free. Add olive oil to the mix. Apply the mixture from the roots till the tips of your hair. Once you’ve thoroughly applied the mask, leave it for about 20 minutes. Rinse off the mask by shampooing your hair with a mild paraben-free shampoo and finish off with your regular conditioner. Do it once a week for smooth and shiny hair.
* Do not wash your hair with warm or hot water as it will cook the egg and make it difficult to rinse it out.
5. Avocado and Banana Hair Mask
These ingredients of a healthy fruit smoothie can do wonders for your hair. This hair mask is for people who suffer from hair fall and have brittle hair. Avocados contain vitamin A, B and essential oils which are great for your scalp. They also give volume, shine and moisturise your hair. Bananas can soothe and repair your damaged tresses. 1 Egg
1 tbsp. of Honey
2 tbsps.of Olive Oil

Apply thoroughly on the tips of your hair as they are more likely to be damaged. Leave it on for 15 minutes and then wash it off with cold water.

Charlie is a trendy name with a simple meaning that can remind your baby of their freedom and feel a lightness in spirit wherever they wander. Although it has primarily been a standalone boy's name, mostly in the United Kingdom, it has remained on-trend on the baby naming table as a gender-neutral name.

How to make raagi porridge / raagi cool recipe for babies?
In this post I have shared how to make ragi porridge/ raagi kanji / raagi malt under ten minutes.
Raagi is naturally gluten free grain.which contains more amount of fiber. Raagi can cause loose stools due to high fiber content.
Ingredients:
Raagi flour -- 2 tablespoon
(Finger millet)
Salt -- pinch
Water -- 1 cups
NOTE : Given only for after 6 months babies to aged
Preparation: ( raagi flour )
Take one cup of whole raagi and soak it in a water for overnight. The next day, completely remove water from raagi through filter or muslin cloth. Then close the raagi with lid for just one day. It will get started to sprout. After that we have to dry it under the sun for 4 hours. If it will completely dried, we have to grind it to fine powder. Sieve it and stored in a well closed container.
Raagi porridge preparation :
Raagi porridge is made by cooking sprouted raagi flour with milk or water.
Take one small bowl. In that, add two tablespoon of raagi flour and one cup of water little by little to it. Mix well without any lumps. Take a pan, switch on flame . In that pan add raagi mixture. It gets started to boiling. Keep stirring otherwise it will stick into the bottom of the pan. Add a pinch of salt to the mixture and stirr well. It gets started to thickening. When the porridge consistency (glossy thickens) is come, switch off the flame. Cool down the mixture completely. Serve to your adorable babies .
Use:
1. raagi porridge makes babies to gain weight.
2. Raagi promotes better digestion
3. Raagi contains calcium and iron supplements, which helps to babies growth and development
4. Which helps to prevent anemia
5. Makes babies teeth stronger due to calcium supplements

A. Yes it is the what part is that your child is kicking if you feel that there is a movement of your child whether it is a cake or slight movement also you know that your child is doing fine so there is no problem in that if the movement is less it’s completely alright

Q. #asktheexperts what to do if the baby’s nose is blovked

A. Nasal blockage is very common, specially in small children because of the narrow nasal cavity. Any kind of saline drops like nasal clear will be helpful in dissolving the stuffy secretions, which can be taken out by vnasal aspirator gently also steam inhalation will be helpful also, try to avoid keeping the child directly under the fan.
