How to Raise an Active Child in Today’s World- From a Real Mom
Every parent wants their kid to be healthy and happy. However, raising an active kid is not an easy job in the era of internet and video games. With the pressure of studies and lack of open parks around high rise buildings, keeping kids active becomes even more challenging. Too much screen time and not enough physical activity significantly adds to the problem of childhood obesity.
As per my experience, every time I go for a walk, my little one is equally excited to step outdoors, and when I work on my laptop, she too wants to watch cartoons on some electronic gadget. We all know that kids observe everything. Parents play an important role in helping their kids become more physically active. Today, I will share a few pointers to help you raise an active child in today’s world.
1. Healthy Diet
Healthy foods help in building stamina and increase the energy levels of our little ones. Including fruits and green leafy vegetables is a must in a child’s diet. Set a routine and make sure that kids eat at least one fruit each day. My little one absolutely loves fruit, whether its banana or papaya. Milk, however, was another challenge altogether. Not many kids willingly eat what is served on the plate and to overcome this, it is important we give them the required supplements to fulfil their body’s nutritional need. V-Nourish is a nutritional supplement drink for kids that aims to provide wholesome nutrition. The brand was created by a father, who is also a food researcher and developer, for his children. Kids love all things tasty, while parents are always focused on giving them balanced nutrition for growth and development.
2. Outdoor Play
Never underestimate the power of outdoor play. From running on the grass and climbing trees to swinging high up in the air and jumping in muddy puddles, these activities are good for kids. Outdoor play can also improve social skills in children. Kids are naturally drawn to playing outside and all we have to do, as parents, is to help them continue this good habit. It allows them to explore the environment and also develop muscle strength and coordination. Playing outdoors helps in increasing flexibility and gross motor skills. In order to maintain good physical health and development, it is really important to let kids play outdoors, as often you can.
3. Limited Screen Time
With the kind of Internet or social media exposure our kids face nowadays, keeping a track of screen time is becoming more and more difficult. We all know that too much screen time is bad for a child’s psychological well-being. It is advisable to keep TVs, computers, and video games out of children's bedrooms and make sure to turn off screens during mealtimes. Set clear guidelines on how much time your kid can spend watching TV and using the computer.
4. Nutritional Supplements
Being a mother I understand how difficult it can get to provide proper nutrition to your child, only through food, especially if your kid is a fussy eater. My little one wasn’t fond of milk until I tried V-Nourish. We have been using the strawberry flavor and our favourite thing about V-Nourish is the bits of strawberry in milk. Eeach product is made with real ingredients, and one can experience chunks of real ingredients in every sip. Plus, it has 40 Nutri-boosters including high quality protein, vitamins, minerals, prebiotics, probiotics, ashwagandha and aloe vera. The brand believes in complete transparency and honesty. That’s why their label has been designed in a way to provide complete information about every ingredient that is in the product.
5. Proper Sleep
Sleep is a very important part of your little one’s mental and physical health because it allows his mind and body to rest and recover. There is no doubt that a well-rested brain can solve problems quickly, learn new information, and relax and enjoy the day a lot more than a tired brain. Establishing a consistent bedtime routine is important. Establish a proper routine at the same time every night, as it helps children get accustomed to it. No wonder our elders believed in the saying ‘early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.’
6. Meditation or Self Control
I say this from experience that teaching kids self-discipline at an early age is a habit that we should inculcate in them, which helps them in the long run. One of the most important things we can do to help our kids learn self-control is to regulate our own emotions, so we can stay calm and patient with our child. Meditation gives their brain some rest and helps kids function more effectively and clearly. Try to incorporate deep breathing into your child's daily bedtime routine. It will calms him down for the night and offer better sleep too.
I really hope these tips have helped you in some way. Don’t forget to mention the practices you follow to keep the kids active, in the comment section below.
Happy parenting mamas!

Tips on Food and Drinks Consumption While Travelling by Bus During Pregnancy
Keep yourself well hydrated during your travels, and any kind of dehydration may cause complications in pregnancy. There is a likelihood that you may not feel like eating or drinking at all during your travel or as soon as you eat you may feel nauseous. Therefore, refrain from eating anything with more oil or fat content and stick to eating light and easily digestible food items. We shall discuss some tips about consuming food and drinks while travelling by bus that may come handy to you:
Carry home-cooked food and filtered drinking water with you. You can take with you a vegetable sandwich, stuffed parantha, curd rice etc. You can also pack some home-made lemonade or ginger ale.
You can carry fresh fruits such as apple, bananas and oranges with you. Fresh fruits not only provide you energy and nutrition but it is a safer eating option too. In case you have missed packing fruits for your travel, you can buy them too but make sure you wash them nicely before consuming. Also, do not consume already cut fruits or vegetables.
Carrying some roasted dry fruits is a good option to control the hunger pangs. However, refrain from eating large amounts of dry fruits as they may increase the body heat, and they are also difficult to digest.
You may also carry packed biscuits or roasted namkeen for snacking. Though you should not consume them too much as eating more of sugary and fried food items may make you feel sick or nauseous.
If you have to buy something to eat, then it is recommended that you buy packed food items only. Packed food items are generally safer than unpacked ones and may pose less risk to you and your baby. Make sure you check for the manufacturing and expiry date on the label.
You can have coconut water or packed fruit juices too.
Always clean your hands before consuming any food items as public transports are the apt places for you to catch any infection.
If you do not consume your home-cooked food within three to four hours of its packing, then it is recommended that you do not consume it as it may no longer be fit for consumption, especially during summers.
These are some of the tips that you can adopt for travelling during early pregnancy by bus.
Alternatives to Bus Travelling
Here are some alternative options that you may consider:
The most preferred option can be to join a carpool with your friends. This option is not only viable but also very economical.
You may ask your husband, friends or relatives to drive for you.
If you have a facility of metro trains in your city, then you can use this option. Metro trains are not only fast but save you from the bumpy bus rides.
You can also make use of various online cab services. These cabs will pick and drop you right at your doorstep and thus save your effort and time.
If possible postpone all your long-distance travel till you start off with your second trimester. If you cannot postpone your travel, consider travelling by train or by air.
Travelling during the first trimester by bus should be avoided. However, if the situation demands it, you can follow the tips mentioned above.

Breastfeeding - The Feeling of Being a Mother, Being Selfless...
One thing that makes a stronger-than-ever bond between mama and baby is breastfeeding. When you hold your little human who just came from inside of you after long nine months (still in a shock as in I made this life? Really? Was he really inside me?) and breastfeed him, it is an indescribable feeling. It’s the most emotional moment of a mother’s life. Every baby, every mother, and every pregnancy is different. Not all babies breastfeed, but still, the bond remains the same between the mother and
the child.
When I first breastfed my bub, I felt a kind of love that I’ve never felt before. Then the journey continued. And one day, when he was about 3 months old, I realised I have a little bump on my left breast. I thought it’s just a boil. I didn’t bother to get it checked by my doctor. After 3-4 days, it became very big and it felt like a big boil filled with pus. I showed it to my doctor, and she told me it’s a kind of mastitis, which means a milk duct is blocked, and it fills with pus, making it a big lump. So, she gave me some antibiotics, which drained the pus out after a week, and then there was a big wound just above the left nipple.
It was so difficult to feed from that breast! I was so scared about my baby’s lips touching the wound in case it might infect him in a way. I even thought of weaning him from breastfeeding, but then my husband supported me and encouraged me, and so I started putting a clean bandage on the wound, and would replace it after every feed.
That wound took a month and a half to heal properly because I was breastfeeding, and I was keeping it open for very little time, and such wounds need air to dry out. That time was very difficult for me and my baby because sometimes the bandage would touch his lips, and he couldn’t latch properly, but we did it! And I’m so happy I did not wean him. Now he is 9 months old, and we are happily breastfeeding, making the bond stronger than ever!

A. Nasal blockage is very common, specially in small children because of the narrow nasal cavity. Any kind of saline drops like nasal clear will be helpful in dissolving the stuffy secretions, which can be taken out by vnasal aspirator gently also steam inhalation will be helpful also, try to avoid keeping the child directly under the fan.
