My Unexpectedly Hard Journey of Motherhood as a Single Mom
I am a mom of a 1-year-old baby boy. As much as I am so excited to share my experience with you all for the first time, I feel equally overwhelmed to tell you that the journey of my motherhood has not been so wonderful. During my pregnancy, I got a devastating news about my mom. The doctors diagnosed my mother with a very rare FTD disease. I was shattered and had lost all the support from my family. As my due date approaching closer, I was feeling increasingly depressed. I had lost my best friend, my mother. But somehow I gathered courage within me. My husband played a key role in it, too. He became my primary caretaker and motivator and I prepared myself for normal delivery mentally.
Finally, the wait came to an end! It was the most memorable day of my life. Yes, I became a mother. I had a normal delivery despite all odds. That day, in spite of all hard work in labour, I could not sleep even for a minute. I was feeling blessed but lonely as my parents were not with me to share this joy. At that moment I did not realize that I am going to become one of those over conscious and overprotective parents who throw their heart out even for the mildest cry of their baby. The real war had begun now. My baby chose to be the monster of all times. He had the worst colic condition. He used to cry day and night and slept hardly (and rarely) for few hours a day. If I am true to my heart, I slept not more than an hour or so in the whole day for the first 3 months of his infancy. Every minute used to pass like ages for me with no one to offer a helping hand or even a piece of advice as for how to handle such a crucial period of my life.
My days passed by experimenting all the time with my baby and myself. I used to google all the time, even for the basics like how to swaddle a baby or how to make him sleep or how to make him stop crying or how to massage a baby and all that stuff. I was tired and heartbroken but of course, giving up was not an option. I decided to learn everything right from scratch. I read several blogs, learned from YouTubers and started logging everything. My son was now 3 months old. I was growing him like a single mom. I started feeling confident. But this was not all. About a week and a half in his third month he caught a cold for the first time. I got furious and was scared. No one was there to tell me what is right and wrong. I tried some home remedies and took him to see a paediatrician. This cold got over him and was nowhere to leave anytime soon. After a month, my cool was over and I requested my paediatrician to do the tests. And another shock came my way, my baby was diagnosed with pneumonia. I panicked and in the middle of the night, I left from my mom's place (Mumbai) to my inlaws (Pune). There we met a very fine and renowned paediatrician. He took over the situation and assured us that everything will be fine. My son lost a lot of weight during his sickness and became very thin.
Today he is 13 months old, still with weight below the average of his age group. But by God's grace, he is a very active child. I lost my mother a month back. But she will always be alive in my heart and memories. When I look back to the early days in my motherhood I still get tears in my eyes. But I feel very proud of myself to handle every situation with patience and courage. I really thank God to give me all the power. Now I realize why people call mothers as superhumans. Are We Just to Our Child? We Need to Think About It
I have always heard parents do a lot for their child unconditionally and these so-called lot of things need to be appreciated and valued. Then my question is, 'Isn't it a big condition itself that you require appreciation in return for all the things you did?'
Let's just agree to the point that appreciation in return isn't a big thing. But I again raise a question 'What you actually did unconditionally?'
Today I am a mother and I wish I can stand on my thought till my entire life that I never put my child in any obligation that I did this much for you and you don't give anything in return. It's actually not just to the child.
When we plan a child, we do it for our need. Throughout pregnancy, a mother carrying a child is given so much respect and carrying a child for 9 months or taking labour and all other pain in delivery was not the decision a child wanted you to take. That's simply your desire to be a parent and start your own family, then how can we show off to our child that we did a great job for them.
In reality, we do what we want in life. That's human nature. Whatever actions we take is directly or indirectly for our own sake. Not at all for others and that's the naked truth which can not accept.
I wish I never let my child feel that I have ever done anything big for him and he needs to feel obliged to me that. I wish I never do that. Infact I am so lucky to have Vaahin in my life as he teaches me everyday how beautiful my life is. I know it very easy to say anything but I will surely try to stand firm on my thoughts.

Keep the oven for pre-heating to 350° Fahrenheit (176° Celsius).

Take a large bowl, and drop in the mashed potatoes, cheddar cheese, sour cream, parmesan cheese, fried chicken pieces, onion, salt, pepper, and garlic.
Step 3
Place this mixture in a greased oven-proof casserole dish and bake this for 30 minutes or until the top turns golden brown.

The covid 19 pandemic has created a havoc in the world. It was very disheartening to see and read about the negatives of it.
However, there have been some positives too. The best thing that came from the pandemic was work from home option for some companies, especially the IT companies.
I was working in an IT firm when I got pregnant and I was living in a metropolitan city. The mere thought of managing my pregnancy and working during and after it gave me nightmares.
I was extremely worried on things like:
1. How will I travel to and fro from office for such long hours in the traffic and the long hours of work.
2. Pregnancy causes drowsiness during the first and third trimester, for which I need to take naps. How will I take naps in the office during work? Would'nt this affect my productivity and affect my job?
3. Pregnancy in the third trimester causes back pain while sitting for long hours in the office. How am I going to manage that?
4. Maternity leave is only for 6 months, so I need to keep working till my due date so that I can get all the 6 months after my delivery. Since the baby needs to be breastfed till 6 months, so I cannot think about going to office before that. Will my body co-operate till my due date?
With all these worries, came the nation wide lock down in the month of March 2020. All the IT companies gave work from home option. I was enthralled by it. I successfully worked worked till my due date and got the maternity leave as I wished.
I was able to take the frequent pregnancy naps during my work and arranged a comfortable working environment on my bed during my pregnancy.
The work from home option also enabled us to work from different parts of the country. Hence, we could get support from my family who did not live in metropolitan cities and yet continue to work.
We have taken enough precautions and none of us had caught Covid-19. I feel that I am blessed to deliver during the pandemic as I have received immense support from my family while not letting my job get affected.
I wish that the work from home option remains even after the pandemic situation gets controlled so that the mothers like me can be able to maintain a good work like balance. Read more
