What Should You Wear for Labour and Delivery?
We all love to get all decked up and dressy for special occasions. Well, your baby’s birth is one of the most important occasions in your life. However, you are not expected to dress up in any of your fineries for that, but you may wonder what you should wear for labour and delivery? In reality, no one pays heed to what you should be wearing for the birthing process, but it surely is important to you. What all criteria you may need to consider for picking up labour and delivery clothes and more are discussed in this article.
What to Wear while in Labour?
As you approach labour, all you may be thinking about is delivering a healthy baby. But a thought may definitely strike in your mind that what to wear to the hospital for labour or what to wear during labour and delivery.
Here we have a few choices for you that you may consider:
1. You May Wear A Gown
A thought of wearing a gown may take back to your prom or first date memories but how about making some beautiful memories with your baby too. Here we are not taking about LBD or little black dress, but we are talking about a comfortable and flowy labour gown that may help in making you feel extremely easy and comfortable. There are many renowned brands that have many options in such gowns that you can choose from. We suggest a cotton knee-length gown which may have a front opening as it may assist your midwife in checking the progress of your labour.
2. You May Wear A Loose-Fitted Dress
A comfy yet pretty dress is also something that you consider for your labour. Many maternity stores have beautiful options available. You may opt for a dress that has a buttoned-down closure in the front, which may not only help you have skin-to-skin contact with your little bunny, but it may also assist you in hassle-free breastfeeding.
3. You May Wear Your Most-Comfy T-Shirt
Many of us have a favourite piece of clothing that we wear most of the time at home because we feel most comfortable with it. If you have something like this, then it may be a good idea to wear that during your difficult time too, which is labour that we are talking about here.
4. You May Wear A Bikini
If you are not afraid of your pregnancy weight or you are not conscious to bare some skin, then you may consider wearing a bikini. Also, bikini may be an ideal option for women who may be planning on having a water birth at home, as it is easy to slip it off.
5. You May Go Bare
If you can dare, you may go bare! Yes, you can be absolutely naked during your labour. Giving birth to a baby is the most beautiful experiences, and no one cares whether you are wearing something or not, because everyone must be concentrating on the birthing process. Also, if you are planning on delivering in the tub or shower, going naked may be a good option to consider.
Important Points to Consider while Dressing for Labour
Even if you are amongst those women, who are considered a fashion icon or who are always in style, being fashionable may be the last thing on your mind when you may be going into labour. So, what is that you need to pay heed to while dressing for labour? Here’s what you may like to keep in mind before rushing to the hospital:
1. Get Rid of The Blingy Things
If you are adorning any earrings, nose rings, fingerings are any such jewellery items, it will be a good idea to remove all of it before heading to the hospital. This is because you may be required to remove all of your jewellery in case you may have to go in for c-section. During such situations, it becomes difficult to take care of valuable belongings, and there is also the risk of misplacing them.
2. Wear Comfortable Clothes
As discussed in the above section, you should try and dress in up comfortable clothes for the hospital, which can be easily changed or removed. Try and wear comfortable footwear too, preferably slip-on shoes so that there is no hassle of tying up the laces or buckling up.
3. Stay Away from Painting Your Nails
Well-manicured hands surely look beautiful, but you may like to skip painting your nails. This is because your nails show a great deal about your health. In case, your oxygen levels start going down your nails will start turning blue and this may be a sign for your doctor to be alert.
4. Skip the Make-Up
If you one of those ladies who likes to stay prim and proper and love to wear makeup on a daily basis, we recommend that you should give it a skip if you are going to the hospital. This is because makeup such as foundation, compact, blusher etc. may make it difficult for your doctor to observe the oxygen level by looking at your skin. Also, you may like to stay away from moisturising your skin too, because if any surgical tape needs to be placed, it may not stick properly.
5. You May Skip Your Underpants
It may sound a bit weird, but you are going to go into labour soon and thus may be required to let go of your undergarments. So, you may remove your underpants at home only and go-commando to the hospital.
We hope that these tips may be useful in bringing a beautiful culmination to your nine months of pregnancy journey. All the best!

How Safe is Foetal (Selective) Reduction?
Most people opt for fertility treatments when they are struggling to get pregnant. But where they are expecting one baby, cases arise when a pregnancy might include twins, triplets, or even more babies. Carrying them ahead healthily may not be always possible and undergoing a pregnancy reduction might be a decision you would have to make.
What is Multifetal Reduction?
A multifetal reduction is a surgical procedure. It is used to reduce the number of foetuses held by a pregnant woman so that the resultant number of foetuses can be carried forward and successfully delivered. It is also termed as selective pregnancy reduction in some cases.
Why Foetal Reduction is Done?
If getting pregnant is a difficult task in itself, keeping that pregnancy healthy and having an uncomplicated delivery is even more difficult. These become tough with every foetus that grows within the uterus. Risks of babies being stillborn or miscarriage increase rapidly when pregnant with multiples. Some babies may not develop correctly or have birth-related defects. Therefore, a foetal reduction helps keep these risks to a minimum level.
Benefits of Multifoetal Pregnancy Reduction
There is a strong reason why mothers carrying multiple foetuses think about undergoing a multifetal pregnancy reduction. The benefits that stem as a result of it are not just beneficial for the other children growing in the mother’s womb, but is also a good way to ensure a great future for the ones that continue ahead in life.
1. Reduced Child Cost
The expenses incurred in taking care of multiple children is not something that is possible for every family. With all children being at the same age, they can quickly shake your financial stability. MFPR can help you keep the costs in a range that works for you.
2. Reduced Mental Stress
While financial problems might be one variable of the equation, taking care of multiple children right after birth is a task difficult, for superheroes too. It can quickly get overwhelming for first-time mothers. Sticking to no more than a couple of babies can help you keep your own mental health and physical health in optimal condition to care for the children.
3. Reduced Pregnancy Problems
Every additional foetus that grows within your body does not only increase the size of your uterus and tummy, but stresses your body further in a bid to share resources. Each child taps into the body for resources and has a significant impact on other areas as well. These further increase chances of anaemia, preeclampsia, or diabetes to set in during pregnancy.
4. Reduced Pregnancy Risks
While most mothers can deal with pregnancy problems through the journey until delivery, most of the major risks usually emerge at that point itself. The chances of undergoing a premature delivery, a miscarriage or development of birth defects is extremely high when pregnant with multiple foetuses.
Risks Associated With MFPR
While multifetal pregnancy reduction has numerous benefits that are good for the mother and the children that will be given birth to, it is not free from foetal reduction risks that might manifest as a result of the procedure itself.
1. Emotional Toll
Some parents develop a very strong connection with their foetuses pretty early in life. Seeing them in ultrasounds and naming them right away can create a strong bond of parenthood with those. Therefore, undergoing an MFPR can set in a feeling of guilt or sadness of having rejected their own children. Extreme cases can cause depression to manifest within the mother too, which isn’t good for the remaining babies.
2. The Possibility of An Infection
The MFPR procedure requires external items to come in contact with the tummy or the uterus, in order to successfully reduce the number of foetuses held within. As minor as it might be, there is a minuscule probability of an external infection finding its way inside. The incidents are quite rare, but if an infection does take place, then it can put the remaining foetuses at a risk.
3. A Miscarriage of the Complete Pregnancy
Any disturbance to the existing condition of the foetus always opens up the risk factor of miscarriage. In most cases, if the number of the foetus are few, generally around 3 or 4, the chances of miscarriage are minimal, usually around 4% or so. However, as the number of existing foetuses starts increasing, reaching 6 or more, the risks associated with miscarriage are quite high. Therefore, a decision of proceeding ahead with MFPR might need to be taken intelligently.
Precautions to Take Before Multifetal Reduction Process
A pregnancy that consists of multiple foetuses usually occurs after undergoing a fertility treatment, involving drugs that put the body in the optimum state for pregnancy. Having made this effort, it might be difficult for you to come to terms with reducing the number of foetuses, as well as opening up to the risk of a miscarriage of the remaining ones as well. While most fertility clinics do provide this information beforehand, understanding the repercussions of the decision is extremely necessary.
Foetal Reduction Procedure
When opting for a multifetal pregnancy reduction procedure, the timing needs to be appropriate as well. The apt time for carrying out the procedure is within the first trimester. The foetuses are at the initial stage of their growth around this time and are usually located within separated pouches filled with amniotic fluid. They are yet to share the uterus together.
Doctors may make use of a probe to carry out an ultrasound. This technique helps to get a detailed understanding of the foetuses within the uterus, as compared to the normal ultrasound. The probe helps provide a correct positioning of the foetuses within the uterus. Using that as a map, a medical process is initiated to calmly reduce the foetuses individually. This makes use of a medicine that is intended to stop the heartbeat of that particular foetus. The correct foetus is determined, with the help of a needle that is inserted through the stomach or the vagina and the medicine is injected into the foetus’s pouch.
Another alternative is to remove the blood flow received by the foetus from the umbilical cord. Here, your doctor might use the radiofrequency ablation technique, that makes use of electric currents instead of medicine via the needle.
The number of foetuses to be reduced in a single session depends on your health, the total number of foetuses, and the doctor’s recommendation. Your doctor might give you a general anaesthesia throughout the procedure to keep you away from the process, even though it might be over in some minutes.
What to Expect After Selective Reduction
Once the procedure is completed, you would be asked to stay in the hospital for about 12-24 hours under observation. The remaining foetuses would be observed via ultrasound regularly. A small counselling session might be conducted to gauge your mental well-being.
FAQs
Here are a few questions that are generally on the mind of many women looking to undergo selective pregnancy reduction.
1. Is Foetal Reduction Procedure Painful?
Some doctors do give general anaesthesia during the procedure while others may use only local anaesthesia. In either case, the procedure does not cause much physical pain and is completed within a few minutes.
2. How Much Does Selective Reduction Cost?
The expenses for the procedure differ from hospital to hospital, depending on the number of foetuses and the complexity. At times, your fertility clinics might include the cost in their package as an optional one.
Reducing your existing foetuses is a tricky procedure for the body, but it also affects your emotions. Discuss with your partner before making a decision, and know it is for your best and the benefit of the remaining babies.

7 Things Your Husband Wants You to Know, But Isn't Telling You!
Do you feel that hubby doesn't express his feelings as much as he should? Well, there are a lot of things that husbands may not talk about, but want their wives to know. Find out what husbands want and get in tune with your other half.
While there are certain things that your husband may not want to talk about with you, there are others that he wants to tell you, but just won't. Knowing what he's thinking can help you surprise him and keep the excitement alive in your marriage.
What Husbands Want that Wives Need to Know
1. He Loves You. He Just Doesn't Say it That Often
Your husband wants you to know that he loves you dearly. Just because he may not express it every time doesn't mean he loves you any less. While you may want him to whisper those three magical words in your ears every day and hug and snuggle up with you, he may choose to show his love in other ways. Maybe he surprises you with a special dinner or your favourite perfume or your favourite dessert.
Do THIS for Your Husband: It's on you to pick up the subtle hints he keeps dropping unknowingly. Just try to listen more for things he seems unable to put into words. Trust us, this is the simplest but most ignored relationship advice for women!
2. He Wants You to Take Charge in Bed
When it comes to sex, we usually leave it up to the man to initiate things. But guys love it when women do the same. If your husband drops hints about his sexy mood, but doesn't make a move, that's when he wants you to get naughty. It thrills him to know that you find him desirable and want to make love.
Do THIS for Your Husband: It can take a while to resume an active sex life after having a baby. However, slowly try and revive the spark. Try these aphrodisiac foods and yoga asanas to boost your sex life. Get going and make him feel loved and wanted. Remember - your husband wants you to enjoy sex as well!
3. He Wants You to Give Him as Much Importance as You Give to The Children
After you have a baby, your hands are full. There is little time to go on dates, have sex, or just spend long weekends together doing nothing. However, letting this strain your relationship and eat into your intimacy can be very risky. Your husband loves being a father and loves his kids a lot. However, you are the woman in his life and he wants you to pay him attention too, just like you used to do before you had children.
Do THIS for Your Husband: Don't give up on the things you used to enjoy as a couple, as far as possible. Try to get as much help as you can from your family members, friends, etc., and make time for couple time.
4. He Wants to be Appreciated Every Now and Then, Just Like You Do
He works to provide the family with a comfortable life and would love a little appreciation every once in a while.
Do THIS for Your Husband: You don't need to show it to him in a grand way. Just the occasional 'thank you' and kisses and cuddles would go a long way in answering the age-old question of how to make husband happy. Avoid saying hurtful things when he fails to do something as per your expectations, especially related to baby chores. You should also remind your children how awesome their daddy is and that it makes him happy when they appreciate him.
5. He Wants You to Cuddle Him. Who Says Men Don't Like That?
There's a little boy in every man who wants to be cuddled when he gets back from work. When you have children who demand all your love and attention, it's easy to forget that even your husband needs the same things. What a husband needs from his wife may not always be evident, but men do yearn for a hug from the women they love.
Do THIS for Your Husband: Just keep in mind that your man has certain reasons for behaving the way he does, cuddle him often to strengthen your physical and emotional bond, and make his day.
6. He Doesn't Like to Always Keep Guessing What You Want
We love it when our husband guesses exactly what we want, whether it is a birthday gift, the wish to order in food for the day's dinner, or the desire to go on a holiday. However, it is unfair on our part to expect men to be telepathic. While some men are highly intuitive, many aren't. They love it when we are direct about what we want and tell them honestly.
Do THIS for Your Husband: Open up your needs, wants and desires. Have straightforward conversations with him and save him from the stress of doing guesswork.
7. He Finds You Very Attractive, Even when You Yourself Don't
He loves being the man of the house and looking after you and the kids gives him a sense of pride. He loves you, your body and the way you turn him on.
Do THIS for Your Husband: Every so often, give him even more to love by dressing up sensually, flirting with him and responding to his advances. You can go the distance by taking his fantasies to the next level.
Men being men, they seldom express their feelings, but that doesn't mean they don't want to. Being in tune with your husband and knowing what he's feeling can help strengthen your bond. Try to read through his gestures and hints to understand those unspoken words he's dying to tell you, but isn't. Read more

A. A lot of times normal delivery is actually seen in these cases also if the doctor is quick and the child cooperate then yes normal delivery is very much possible but some doctors don’t take a chance with the health of your child and so they normally suggest C-section so let’s see what’s your situation by the end when you are into your labour
