Top 5 Mother's Day Movies to Watch with your Mom
While treating your mom to breakfast in bed on Mother’s Day is a great idea, snuggling up with her to watch some of the good mother’s day movies makes perfect sense too. From ‘The Parent Trap’ to ‘Stepmom’, the options are endless.
If you want to do something special for your mom, a movie marathon could really set the tone for a lazy, fantastic day of bonding. Download a few great Mother’s Day movies, get a tub of ice-cream, and her favourite flavoured popcorn - she will love evry bit of it and this way you can make this day super special for her. Here are some movies you should consider watching with your mom on this special day:
1. Mother India
In this movie, which was nominated for an Oscar, a poor woman raise her sons, all by herself, despite facing a barrage of societal problems and tribulations. However, regardless of the many problems, she sticks to her moral beliefs. This film definitely ranks among the best mother's day movies of all time. And why not! Who else can understand the true meaning of sacrifice and values, than a mother?
2. Stepmom
Any movie starring Julia Roberts and Susan Sarandon is definitely worth the watch. That fact aside, this tearjerker is sure to make your mom reach out for a tissue or two. It tells the story of a terminally ill mother who has to deal with a new woman in her former husband's life. Her children also have to accustom themselves to the new change despite their reservations. The acting is superb, and the ending will melt your heart. Recommended: a big tub of popcorn and Kleenex to last the entire duration.
3. Erin Brockovich
If your mom has a feminist streak and isn't afraid to stand up for what's just, choosing Erin Brockovich would be the right move. The movie tells the story of an unemployed single mother who works as a legal assistant and decides to single-handedly challenge a Californian power company that has been accused of polluting the city's water. We would rate this feel-good movie as among the top mother’s day movies to watch with your mom. It stars a brazen Julia Roberts, in a role of a lifetime!
4. Freaky Friday
If you and your mom do not particularly get along well the rest of the year, set aside your differences on Mother’s Day. Watching ‘Freaky Friday’ starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan is a great place to start. It tells the hilarious story of a worn out mother and her daughter who does not see eye-to-eye on many things with her mom. But when their bodies get swapped, thanks to a freaky intervention, each is required to adapt and see through the other's way of thinking and living. While the movie is funny, it does shed light on the relationship between a mother and daughter in the most unconventional way possible.
5. The Sound of Music
Who doesn't enjoy another re-run of ‘The Sound of Music’? From the unforgettable tunes to the inimitable Julie Andrews, everything about this movie is nostalgic. Of course, who can forget the Von Trapp children and how they eventually come to love Maria, the nun turned nanny. Your mom and you will definitely be singing along to this one.
These movies are great options for a Mother’s Day watch and will set the mood for a great evening littered with laughs, tears, and lot of cuddles. The biggest part remains that not only will you be able to spend quality time with the first love of your life, but you'll also make her feel very special! Go ahead and download or rent these movies and make a memorable Mother's day she'll cherish for life. Read more

Here's Why Parents Need to Limit Their Screen Time Too!
Screen addiction in children is a common concern for parents of the present age. Like any other responsible parent, you keep tabs on what your kids scour on the internet; you probably have blocked websites with adult or inappropriate content on their computers, and you may even have set an-hour-a-day of screen time for them. But when it comes to your own screen time, there’s no limit, is there, now?
There’s no one stopping you from watching your favourite shows on television or reading ebooks on your smartphone. But before you scold your kids for going over their screen time, ponder hard over your own habits and ask yourself if you also need a screen time limit. If you’re honest to yourself, your inner voice will probably say yes.
How is Screen Time Affecting Your Life?
There’s nothing wrong in watching your favourite shows, playing video games, or texting your friends every day. It’s completely human, but it’s the amount of time that you spend on these activities that becomes a cause for concern. You must have read enough articles on why you need to limit your child’s screen time, but today, read on to find out why you, as a parent, need to cut down your screen time as well. It is taking a toll on different aspects of your life and you probably may not have realized it. Here’s how it’s affecting you.
1. Your mental health – by taking you on the road to depression
Television shows, movies, and social media can easily help you escape or evade from real life problems, but at the same time, it can deceive your brain by taking you on a trip to a make-believe world. The inactive lifestyle that most of you’re probably leading can also make you prone to depression. As per a study, moderate to severe levels of depression were associated with the use of computers and excessive TV time. People who watch television or use a computer for more than 6 hours a day have more chances of sinking into depression than people who don’t spend much time in front of these devices.
2. Your physical health
The sedentary lifestyle that most of the people of this generation lead also puts them at the risk of several diseases. When you use your phone or computer, or watch television, you probably do it sitting on a chair or a couch - which doesn’t help your body at all. Sitting for long hours and not doing any physical activity can put you at the risk of health problems, like diabetes, obesity, and even cancer. Your posture gets affected too - you may experience pain in your neck as a result of looking down at your phone constantly.
However, it’s not too late to start exercising and make dietary changes. You can take up yoga, cardio, Zumba, playing outside with your kids, or even walking for that matter - go with the one that is comfortable for you and live actively to keep diseases at bay.
3. Your sleep
The urge to check the new messages you’ve received on Whatsapp before going to bed is tempting, and you give in without much thought. The next thing you know, it’s already an hour after midnight, and you’re staring up at the ceiling of your bedroom, waiting for sleep to engulf you. But that won’t happen, because being engrossed in your phone, especially at night, disrupts your sleep pattern.
The blue light emitted by the screens of smartphones suppresses the production of melatonin (the hormone which regulates your body’s sleep cycle), thereby messing up your sleep routine. Lack of sleep can leave you feeling sluggish and tired all day long, thereby affecting your work and daily routine.
4. Your relationships
Today, many couples post their pictures (with heartwarming captions) on social media, setting and redefining couple and family goals; and while there is nothing wrong with that, it might take them away from meeting their real-life relationship goals!
The constant need to check your phone may affect the quantity and quality of your real-life interactions with your partner. Even when you go out with your friends to a restaurant, most of them get busy with clicking pictures of the food, rather than enjoying the meal itself. You may try to have a real conversation with your spouse and children, but it probably gets interrupted with important calls and unimportant notifications, and the people sitting in front of you may unintentionally take a back seat in your life. When you’re with your family, and especially your kids, ensure that you give them your entire, undivided attention. Notifications may keep appearing but nothing will bring back the good times you spend with your loved ones!
5. Your happiness - the most important and the most ignored one
If you’re reading this point, then we assume that you have gone through the above four. So let’s get down to it - how can extended screen time make you happy, if it’s one of the root causes of several other problems stated above? While we understand that you can’t cut down on your work-related screen time, what’s your excuse for being glued to screens for fun? Whatever free time you have today, which you once spent on pursuing your hobbies and doing your daily chores, now goes in scrolling through your Facebook and Instagram feeds. Without even realizing it, you waste plenty of time, feeling happy YET insecure at the same time. The time spent on social media is like gaining empty calories, where you may feel motivated for a few minutes, but something you’ll regret later for having done nothing productive with. This unhappiness will be reflected in your daily life and the resultant negativity may rub off on your family and friends too.
In this technology-driven world, you’re likely to feel that you’re missing out on your life if you’re not active on social media. We are not saying that you don’t have to be on it. All we are suggesting is that you set some healthy boundaries for yourself, just as you do for your kids, because it’s too easy to lose yourself in the alluring digital world.
Now that you are aware of the ‘whys’, let’s discuss the solutions that can help you in attaining your goal of limiting screen time.
Take a break at work – While at work, take breaks often. Look away from screens every 20 minutes. Stand up and walk around; go fill your water bottle and use the staircase instead of the elevator. While sitting on your chair, stretch your neck, back, and legs regularly. You can also learn a few exercises that you can do at your office desk.
Use technology for good – Everything has two sides – positive and negative - how you look at it or in this case, use it, makes the difference. Smartphones, the internet, and social media may be indispensable for you now, but how about from now on, you consume it for good? Download applications that can act as a medium to achieve your goals. You can set alarms on your phone informing you to take a break. You can download an app to maintain your to-do-list. You can even have apps that help you keep a count of the calories you consume or the number of steps you take in a day. See, there are several positive ways in which you can use your screen time!
Walk while talking on the phone – Instead of sitting and talking on your phone, walk around while having those long conversations with your best friend. This way you’ll stay healthy and maintain your relationships with the ones who mean a lot to you!
Get creative – Yes, you can take up a hobby even if you’re in your late 20s or 30s - it’s never too late to learn something new. Other than this, you can also indulge in creative activities with your kids. Try art and craft activities with them, or just go outdoors and have fun. Do something that doesn’t remind you of your phone.
Exercise – You knew this was coming, right? Exercise can help you fight depression and insomnia, and can help you stay fit. It can help you tackle all the problems associated with screen time. Besides, when you’re up and running, you’re hardly going to be using your phone during that time, AND your body will be benefitting from exercise too. So, get up and get moving!
Staying away from screens, especially in this digital age, can be hard, but it’s something you have to learn to do. Taking breaks from screens is important to lead a healthy and happy life. So, incorporate healthy habits into your life and bid adieu to your screen addiction.

The Joy Of Breastfeeding And How it Makes You Feel Special As A Mother.
As we celebrate "Breastfeeding week " this time of the year , every year it is a reminiscence to a number of happy mother's like me. I am a proud mother of a 12 year old son. I still remember that entire period when I breastfed my son. It seems like just a while ago.
When I began breastfeeding like every mother even I was worried and not sure if I will be able to do it every 2 hours in the beginning. And to add to that I would keep getting advice from every other person how I should be doing it and what all I should be eating. Though some people would say its irritating to receive so much advice I would say every advice helped me. I tried to take most of it and it really helped me. I ate everything from greens to fenugreek seeds to drinking enough milk to make sure there was enough breastmilk for my son.
There were ' n ' number of sleepless nights as I had to feed him every 2 hours. I would get up automatically to feed him. Surprisingly there was no resistance it all. It was just that feeling of holding him in my arms again which would make me happy. Undoubtedly breastfeeding is one of the ways to build a bond with your baby. It does make you feel special to be able to do something for your baby which no one else can do. All breastfeeding mother's should be proud of themselves. I am glad I could do it for more than 2 years.
Towards the end I would also like to confess that doing it in the night was a bit tiring as I had not slept for a whole night for almost 3 years. But there was nothing to regret at all. Nothing absolutely. I loved every moment.
Now, for those mothers who are not able to breastfeed due to personal reasons please don't think you have not done enough. You are still as much a mother as others who are able to breastfeed.
A big round of applause and regards to all the wonderful mothers reading this. Read more

When is the right time for married couples to do a family planning??
Hello Readers,
Hope you all are doing well and keeping safe!
Well most of us go through this question once in our life (Provided you are Married) There are many expert advices available online.A small disclaimer before I proceed further that I am not a certified professional medical expert. I am going to share with you my personal opinion about this concept of family planning based on my experience.
So medically there are valid reasons for why one should do a family planning at the young age.But practically in today's world it is not always possible.Today's generation is career oriented. We invest time on our education and profession then get married once we are financially sound enough. After marriage we want to enjoy the marital life with our partner.
And then comes the big decision of "Family Planning. Now some couples would go for it only due to family pressures especially if it's an arranged marriage. Few people believe in enjoying those initial glorious years of marriage and then plan a baby. Some people get jealous of other couples of similar age who have planned a baby and they also decide to have one.
But personally I feel that it's not about anyone else but only the couple who can decide whether to have a baby or not. I mean both the individuals should be physically, mentally, emotionally and financially prepared to plan a family. Yes, personal conviction to become a parent is very important. If any of the partner is not prepared completely the other needs to give them time and have patience. Never force your partner for this big decision. There is no race going on for a family planning. And no one has any rights to judge your family planning decision. It's all about you and your partner. Both of your decisions matter nothing else.
With baby comes the financial burden of pregnancy scans, gynac visits, birthing expenses, baby shower, etc before the baby is born. Nowadays maternity shoots have become a popular choice amongst alot of expecting parents. Also after the baby is born there is a series of vaccinations, pediatrition visits, Naming ceremony, Newborn shoot, Birthday, etc. All these additional expenses needs to be considered while planning a baby.
Couples who are completely ready on above mentioned parameters stand a high chance to become successful parents.
So there is no hurry. Your child deserves your complete dedication. Even if you have 1% doubt I suggest to hold on and give yourself some time. Parenthood is a beautiful process and each of the parent deserves to enjoy his amazing journey.
I wish all the luck to all the "Parents To Be" and those who are yet to plan can definitely ponder upon the things I shared with you to take a thoughtful decision.
Regards,
Apurva Read more

The journey so far...My breastfeeding journey - about my son and me
As they say mother's milk is the best food for her baby but this 'amrut' is not easy to get for few babies. Holding my baby in my hand I could feel the pain that I had gone through in the operation theatre. Being almost 12 hours away from my baby due to medical emergency I was not in a position to hold him and feed. It took hours for the milk to secreate and finally when the milk came it was not sufficient for my baby. I tried to feed hin after every 2 hours but since I was not keeping well baby had to be given outside milk. Oohh.... I was soo helpless....!!. after being discharged from hospital my milk supply was better but not much as needed by baby to satisfy his hunger.
Days passed by and within a week I was diagnosed with thyroid due to which I had to be on medicine. This futher reduced the milk supply and now my baby had to suffer again. Soon nani suggested to drink dal ka paani, eat kaju, badam, eat a spoonful of methi seeds and what not...but still the milk supply did not boost up.
I was helpless and baby had to be fed packet milk few times a day and sometimes at night too.. but I was determined that I would feed my milk to my baby. After consulting doctor he said to take Shatavari powder in milk that would boost up the milk supply.
And yes it really worked....that was a magic wand I thought that has worked...till the time I was having thyroid medicine I had to continue Shatavari just to ensure that my baby was full.
Days passed by with continuing medicine and enough balanced diet my baby got milk that was enough for him.
I still have that satisfaction that yes I was able to breastfeed my baby and he has got the best food in his early years. Read more
