Homemade Pregnancy Test with Baking Soda
A confirmation of pregnancy can come as a blessing to most couples who have been trying to conceive for a really long time. Pregnant or not - this is the question that looms around hopeful couples for a long time. There are several methods to test your pregnancy and find out if you are carrying a little baby. While a lot of them sure add to the excitement of the pregnancy journey, only some tests come closer to revealing the truth. A very simple and doable test that can be done at your home is the baking soda test. This pregnancy test uses a kitchen staple to confirm your pregnancy. It is perfect if you don’t have access to a pregnancy test or if you simply can’t wait until you get one.
What is Baking Soda Pregnancy Test?
The baking soda pregnancy test is a simple homemade pregnancy test with baking soda that can be done anytime during the pregnancy. The idea behind the test is to add a few drops of the expecting mother’s urine to a spoonful of baking soda and check the acidity of the urine. If you are pregnant you will notice some fizz. This is because baking soda or sodium bicarbonate reacts with most acids. While there is no scientific backing to this test, it is said that it can even predict the gender of the baby.
Accuracy of Baking Soda Pregnancy Test
The accuracy percentage of this test is 50%. The result is compromised because the acidity of the urine depends on many other parameters in the body. The acidity level changes each day depending on the food intake, water intake, etc. making it a very poor and lose indicator of the pregnancy. On days when the mother is dehydrated because of vomiting or general reduction in the water intake, the urine tends to be more acidic leading to an incorrect prediction. Nevertheless, the baking soda test is a good predictor of the urine’s acidity.
How to Perform This Test?
This test is a very simple procedure that you can do at your home without any sophisticated equipment. While doing this test, you are very likely to feel like a laboratory scientist carrying out a fancy experiment.
What you need
To do the baking soda home pregnancy test, all you need some basic essentials found in your home.
A spoonful of baking soda
Some urine collected right before the test
A container to collect the urine
Another small container to hold the baking soda
Method
Wash your hands before you collect the urine to prevent contaminating the sample. Wear latex gloves if needed
Hold the container under yourself as you sit on the toilet and pee into it
Take some baking soda in a glass container and add a few millilitres of urine onto it
Right after the addition, if there is a fizz, it indicates that you are pregnant.
It is preferred that you perform this test using your first urine of the day as the urine may get diluted through the day as you drink water. This can alter or skew the results of the test. Although the quantity of the baking soda or urine required to perform the test isn’t specified, it is recommended that you use equal parts of both the items.
The baking soda pregnancy test directions are very simple and can be done as early as the first trimester. The HCG levels usually reach a high point after the tenth week of pregnancy and it is better to attempt this test after that.
While the test may not be entirely accurate, it can be a fun way to test your pregnancy results, especially if you don’t want to wait until you get a pregnancy test. It is also one way to add some excitement to the pregnancy process. However, in order to confirm your pregnancy, it is always recommended that you go to a doctor to get a more accurate result of your pregnancy. Your doctor will be able to perform some blood tests or urine tests to confirm your pregnancy.

7 PCOS Diet Tips to Get Pregnant
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a common disease among women who are in their reproductive phase. 80 per cent of women suffer from this disease, but most of them are unaware of it. This disease occurs mainly due to hormonal imbalance, specifically due to high levels of androgen, which is a male hormone, that develops its root in women.
The major symptoms of PCOS include irregular menstrual cycles, the presence of excessive body hair and fat, pelvic pain, heavy bleeding during periods and most importantly, difficulty in getting pregnant. PCOS can hinder fertility, but don't lose hope. There are a number of dietary options that can help you get pregnant despite having PCOS and bear a healthy baby.
Best PCOS Fertility Diet Tips to Help You Get Pregnant
Try to stick to the following Indian diet plan tips to get pregnant if you are suffering from PCOS:
1. Prefer Eating Low Glycemic Index Food
Food that contains high glycemic levels can spike your insulin levels. To avoid weight gain and other diseases like type-2 diabetes, it is important to eat food that has a low glycemic index.
Foods To Avoid:
White potatoes
Rice
Flour
Doughnuts
Watermelon
Cornflakes
Foods To Eat:
Soy milk
Oatmeal
Legumes
Apple juice
Pineapple juice
Low-fat yoghurt
Carrot juice
Multigrain bread
Whole grain cereals
2. Avoid Starvation
Not eating food isn’t the solution to anything. One should eat regularly from time to time. However, avoid eating junk food or stale food. Eating healthy and fresh food ensures good health and wellness, which in turn boosts the process of losing excessive fat.
Healthy Foods To Eat:
Lentils
Fruits
Green vegetables
3. Avoid Intake of Sugar
Whenever you consume sugar, you give way to increased blood sugar levels. Whether it’s chocolate, ice-cream, tea or cold drinks, you need to give up all of them. It is advisable to learn to relish the taste of food or drinks that have no added sugar to them.
Alternatives to Sugar:
Stevia
Honey
Jaggery powder
4. Avoid Consuming Processed Food
If you want to get pregnant and keep PCOS in check, it is highly recommended to not eat processed food. These foods contain fats, hidden sugar, preservatives, and excessive sodium. Processed food, in turn, leads to inflammation. Instead, eat food that is freshly made and healthy.
5. Prefer Eating Anti-Inflammatory Foods
Insulin levels not only lead to weight gain and inflammation but also tiredness and weakness. Eating anti-inflammatory foods help reduce insulin levels.
Anti-Inflammatory Foods to Eat:
Spinach
Green tea
Olives
Beans and lentils
Dark chocolate
Coconut
Turmeric
Cinnamon
Extra virgin Olive Oil
6. Consume Less of Dairy Products
It may sound weird, but yes, dairy products are not recommended for women suffering from PCOS. This is because dairy products contain Insulin-Growth-Factor 1. Though this factor aids in the growth of foetus, it is not good for women with PCOS.
It is pretty clear that giving up dairy products isn’t entirely possible, but just remember to have them in limited quantity. Butter is one dairy product that you can have in controlled limits, as it contains a right balance of fats and vitamins.
Dairy Alternatives You Can Consume:
Almond milk
Oat milk
Coconut milk
Rice milk
7. Consult Your Doctors for the Right Prescription of Drugs
There are several medicinal drugs available in the market that, in turn, has proven to be beneficial for treating PCOS. Examples of such drugs are “Metformin” and “Clomid”. However, remember not to consume any of these drugs without consulting your gynaecologist.
Uses of both the drugs:
Metformin: This drug helps treat Type-2 diabetes. The add-on benefit of this drug is the treatment of PCOS in women. This drug indirectly helps in decreasing insulin levels and regulating testosterone levels, which in turn aids in maintaining regular menstrual cycles.
Clomid: This is prescribed as a fertility medicine that helps in stimulating ovulation process. Clomid contains an active chemical called clomiphene that makes the brain think that the oestrogen levels have reduced. When this happens, the production and secretion of FSH or follicle-stimulating hormone, automatically starts. Further, the production of FSH boosts ovarian activity.
This is the recommended PCOS diet to get pregnant naturally. Try to follow these tips and consult your doctor for a proper diet plan. Another recommendation is exercise. Do not forget to exercise daily, as this is the most effective solution for staying fit and, in turn, controlling PCOS.

The Real Reason Aishwarya Bachchan Always Carries Her Daughter
Our little children are so precious to us that we do everything we can to keep them safe. Right from the day they are born, with tiny hands and feet, until even after they grow up into young adults, they remain the center of our world. Silently in the background, however, time keeps passing. Our children soon become too heavy to lift in our arms! But Aishwarya Bachchan hasn't let anything change her habit yet - the habit of always carrying her daughter wherever she goes. Why is that? The real reason, which she disclosed in a recent interview, made our heart melt...
Aaradhya has now turned four. She accompanies her mom to some public outings and events, and from what we can gather, is learning to handle the media attention very well! But an incident in Mumbai compelled this Mommy to be doubly cautious around her daughter.
It happened back in February. The paparazzi and fans were furiously clicking away pictures in Mumbai. It was all very well till one point - and then it wasn't. The actress requested the mob to calm down, but to no avail. Seeing that the crowd was getting out of control, Aishwarya rushed to her car with little Aaradhya in her arms. But in the hurry, Aaradhya got hurt and started crying! Even though Aishwarya immediately left the venue without answering any questions, the harm was done – her child has hurt.
This is the reason this Mommy always keeps her daughter close to herself. It is the need to protect her little love, a need that is more important to a mom than anything else in the world.
***
Aishwarya: "Aaradhya has seen it (the limelight) since birth and I would like to think she is used to it. At one point when we were walking, she was in a great mood, even as people clicked pictures. She was laughing and saying something funny. But when Aaradhya saw these people (photographers) coming, she just wanted to stop in her tracks and squatted on the floor. I knew it was time for me to pick her up. I just wanted everyone to be safe, including my child.
When people started caving in, I had to pick her up because she is too tiny to handle all that. I had to steer my way through the crowd. It is just a protective instinct, I keep her close."

We love how this mommy sure has got her priorities right. You can never be too cautious when it comes to your child - and celebrity children can really have a hard time being constantly in the limelight. It isn't as rosy for them as we think it is! Aaradhya seems to be growing up in a loving family, with all her favourite people turning up for everything that's important to her, including her school's annual function.
In the long run, it is entirely up to the parents to give children a happy childhood, filled with love, attention and time. After all, the relationship between parents and their children is stronger than any vagaries of this world! Read more

A. Nasal blockage is very common, specially in small children because of the narrow nasal cavity. Any kind of saline drops like nasal clear will be helpful in dissolving the stuffy secretions, which can be taken out by vnasal aspirator gently also steam inhalation will be helpful also, try to avoid keeping the child directly under the fan.
