6 Mistakes To Avoid To Ensure Peaceful Nap-Time For Your Baby!
Sleep is very important for your baby as it is during nap-time that he rests, rejuvenates and grows. However, putting babies to sleep - whether during the day or at night - can be a huge challenge for moms. While some of these sleep problems are natural and pass with age, there are a few mistakes that can add to your baby's bed-time distress.
lEvery child is different when it comes to napping patterns. Babies need to have the required amount of sleep for their growth, and also, for parents to have some time for themselves or to finish the daily chores. However, there is no way to figure out how well and till when the little one will have his nap. The division of nap-times during the day depends largely on the baby’s age and developmental stage.
To try and ensure a peaceful nap-time for our little ones, we must understand their sleep habits. We must also avoid making nap-time mistakes that can rob babies of sleep.
Important Facts about Baby’s Naps
Researchers have suggested that proper mental and physical growth of a baby takes place when he sleeps properly during the day as well as night.
Kids who have longer nap times feel refreshed, tend to have longer attention span and are less fussy and irritable.
It is beneficial if the baby plays actively in the day and has a long and peaceful sleep in the night to wake up fresh and jolly again the next morning.
Baby Napping Mistakes to Avoid
1. Ignoring Signs of Sleepiness in the Baby
The rule of thumb for keeping a check on the baby’s sign for napping is - yawning. Two yawns and the baby should be headed for bed. Other signs of sleepiness include decreased activity, shutting or drooping of eyes, fussy behavior and rubbing of eyes. If these signs are ignored, the baby can become overtired or too sleepy - situations that can promote crankiness in little ones. If your baby does get cranky, consider a pre-bed-time sponge bath or some light lullabies to relax them.
2. Counting Short Naps as Sleep Time
A short nap does not provide the baby with any benefits. Also, he may wake up with a fussy and cranky mood. A full nap means nothing less than a 45-minutes of deep sleep, anything less than that is considered inadequate for the baby and should not be counted toward his daily sleep requirement.
3. Putting the Baby to Bed With a Bottle
Many parents observe that putting their baby to bed with a bottle can help soothe them and put them to sleep. However, experts warn that this is a baby nap-time mistake! The baby may start relying on the bottle to fall asleep and it will become harder to wean them. The child could even be at risk of choking, ear infections or tooth decay. It is recommended to bottle-feed only at meal time and not use it at nap-time.
4. Waking Up the Baby in Day-Time To Ensure Night-Time Sleep
Many babies who sleep for long hours during the day tend to sleep peacefully at night too, without much trouble. So, if the parents find the baby sleeping for long during the day, there is no need to wake the baby up and cause more trouble to yourself and the baby. It is best to wake the baby up only when you perceive it is feeding time or their diaper needs to be changed.
5. Not Maintaining a Consistent Sleep Schedule
It is only natural for babies to take time to settle down into a schedule. However, babies' nap timings are generally fixed according to their internal clock which takes its cues from the consistent routine set by the parents. Babies grow and refresh themselves during these naps. So, it is necessary to be consistent about nap routine for their better development, as far as possible. Try and keep any disturbance/changes to their schedule at a minimum, especially when travelling, or when there are guests at home.
6. Leaving the Baby’s Naps Incomplete
If the baby wakes up in his sleep midway, it may be because he needs a diaper change or is hungry or is just disturbed. If he shows the signs of sleepiness again after his needs are fulfilled, try to make him sleep by patting, singing, cuddling or swaddling him with a light, breathable wrap. It is important to understand that a baby’s nap time is as important as his play time and must not be left incomplete.
Babies need undisturbed sleep during the day as well as night. Try to set a routine to keep them active as well as relaxed, and you will find they sleep better. Happy nap-time! Read more

Never force your kid....!!!
Let's have a general talk on kids.
My kid is very much interested in learing new things. I help her with what she is interested in. If she comes up with any topic which she founds interesting I will definitely try to bring her into it and make her feel comfortable with what she wanted to. This means I have never tried my girl forcing on other topics where she never wanted to go. But as an Indian mother, I will also not leave her to take a back off from the thing which I wanted to make her learn. I try to gather her interest with several ideas and attractive things for learning which helps me teach my kid what I want. I NEVER forced my kid to do without gaining her interest.
WHAT LEADS TO FORCING A KID:
Pushing your child to do new things before he or she is ready can actually be harmful. Kids may get negative thoughts in there minds related to the topic and the person who is forcing them. They may start thinking that they don't have enough freedom to do what they want.
HOW DO YOU MOTIVATE YOUR CHILD WITHOUT FORCING:
- Identify what you can use for rewards and incentives.
- Make your kid comfortable.
- Talk about what your child wants.
- Don't shout or argue, try to be calm.
- Tell your child that what the kid does matters to you.
- Coach your child.
- Set the environment.
- Make your kid understand about the importance of the new things.
- Simply, grab a doll/ball and make it attractive towards the kids.
- Observe your child is interested in what and motivate with the same. (like: papers, colours, books, images etc.)
- Listen to your kid first than let's start explaining why we are not allowing them to do or letting them do.
- Make your child earn privileges.
CONCLUSION:
Our job as a parent is to help our kid by coaching them to meet there responsibilities in spite of his anxiety, fear or apathy. And we must be confirmed and confident before reaching to our kid's mind.According to me if we force our kids they may become aggresive and may also become habituate to the aggressiveness. Read more

It's Vaccine Time, Baby! A guide for parents to deal with immunization.
Congratulations on holding a bundle of joy in your arms. These tiny miracles bring unexplained happiness in our lives with smile on our lips and tears in our eyes. May they be blessed with health and good luck :)
The foremost thing after a baby is born in to evaluate their senses, which is done in the hospital by a pediatrician. You might receive an APGAR score, or an evaluation report. On the second or 3rd day, the baby receives the BCG vaccine, and the whole vaccination fiasco starts from there, and I guess we all can agree it is not a joy in parenthood.
There are tons of questions surrounding vaccines. Where is this done ? When is the vaccine due? What if my baby has cold/cough/fever? What if we forgot the date? Can we give the vaccine before time? And the latest elephant in the room is, should we even vaccinate our children? (I have even seen blogs on how some people believe without any evidence that vaccines are causing ADHD!).
YES. Vaccines are important. They have very limited side effects. ADHD was prevelant even before vaccines, but they went unnoticed for a lot of time. Screen time is also a major contributor to ADHD-like symptoms, are we banning mobiles altogether now? Vaccines protect your baby from a range of diseases that were known to have been severe or even fatal in the past. Say you don't get your child immunized, he/she is at risk for diseases like chicken pox, and it also puts others who interact with your child in risk.
Most hospitals hand out vaccination trackers, and you can use apps (even firstcry) for this purpose. Vaccines are provided in all children's hospitals and some clinics. The government's immunization scheme also gives out the mandatory vaccines on specified days for free of cost in government hospitals, health centres and anganwadi schools. Please ensure you stick to the schedule and make plans accordingly, and take an appointment beforehand if you can.
Vaccination trackers are important for admission into school, travel, visa, etc. Please make sure all your vaccines are on time and recorded in a single place. Carry your baby's favorite toy/blanket to the immunization centre to help the feel comfortable. If possible, avoid social gatherings with more people after the immunization as baby might feel uncomfortable and needs your utmost attention. Apply an OTC ointment on the vaccination site to ease the pain (consult your pediatrician for this). You can also apple a mild heart/cold pack to relieve pain. Watch for fever, and give paracetamol accordingly. Keep diet simple and keep baby well hydrated. You can continue with your regular massage and bath regime but avoid applying pressure on the area. If you're not bathing the baby, give them a sponge wipe with lukewarm water and keep them in fresh clothes. Watch for any change in potty and report any concerns to the doctor. Spend time in contact with the baby, as that is the best comfort you can offer.
Happy immunization! :) Read more
