Some Major Developmental Milestones your Child Should've Reached by Now?
The major developmental milestones are categorised into five types - cognitive, physical, social and emotional, visual and hearing, and communication development. Here are what milestones for a 3 month-old baby.
Cognitive Development Milestones
Imitates actions - Whether you're cooking, cleaning or doing something interesting, your baby will mimic you like a mime and imitate some of your actions.
Chortles - Your baby chuckles, chortles and babbles in response to anything you say to him. It's his way of replying to you.
Turns Head - Whether you make a noise or some else does, your little one will turn his head around to find out the source.
Reads faces from a distance - No longer will you and your friends have to come close to your baby and help him look at everyone. Your baby will be able to notice people and their faces from far away or longer distances now.
Physical Development Milestones
Turning Their Head- Your baby will be able to turn his head when you move objects away from his field of vision in order to track it.
Tilts head 45° - During tummy times, you'll notice your little one being able to lift or tilt his head up 45° and see or notice toys around him. His neck muscles will strengthen in the process.
Bears body weight with support - When you hold your baby up, you'll see your little one being able to stand by bearing his weight on his feet. Although he can't stand all alone, he will be able to stand briefly with your help.
Less Sleep - By the time your little one turns three years old, he will be sleeping less as time goes by. You'll notice him sleeping for 15 hours instead of the usual 16 hours during this phase and during night time especially.
Social & Emotional Milestones
Interacting with Siblings - Your baby will be aware of his siblings' existence and interact with them through coos and other sounds.
Reserved around strangers - Your little one won't be friendly with strangers and remain quiet. Some babies get anxious when shown to strangers as well.
First Laugh - Between the ages of three months to four months is when you will hear your baby laugh for the very first time.
Smiles At You- Where primary caregivers and parents are concerned, your little one will smile as a way to greet people. Your baby will only smile at people he recognizes and not at strangers.
Visual & Hearing Milestones
Sharp Contrasts - Your baby will enjoy seeing brightly coloured toys and sharp contrasts. He will get used to seeping stripes and colours with sharp contrasts like black and white.
Observing Faces - Your baby will start getting accustomed to new faces and may stare back into people's eyes for some time. If you give him a crib mirror, he will intently watch his own facial expressions.
Responds To Your Voice - Your little one will be able to recognize your voice and begin responding to sounds around him through cooing or vowel noises.
Tracks objects with eyes - Your little one will turn his head to track objects that go outside his field of vision. He will be able to follow your movements and watch where you're going as well from far away.
Communication Development Milestone
Social Smiles - If your baby knows a stranger or meets a new friend often, he will show his "social smile" and express joy upon meeting them. This only happens once he's familiarized himself seeing new faces, however.
Making Gestures - Crying isn't the only way your baby communicates at this age. He will mimic you and make gestures for interactions and responses.
Less Crying - Coming back to crying, your baby won't be crying any more than 1 hour a day tops.
More Sounds - Your baby will use babbles and sounds like 'ooh,' 'ah' and vowel notations and cooing voices to communicate with you. He will watch your facial expressions, gestures and respond accordingly with different sounds and tones.
When to Consult a Doctor?
Doesn't Respond - If your baby remains expressionless at the sight of your face and others greeting him, it's a sign of serious developmental delay.
Doesn't Babble - If your baby doesn't make sounds or babbles, then that's a caution sign right there.
Bobs His Head- If your baby flops his head and is not able to support it on his own, then that's something to be concerned about.
Can't grab or hold objects - If your baby shows a lack of interest towards playing with toys, is unable to grab nearby objects or doesn't put toys in his mouth, then that's a telltale sign.
Tips to Help your Three Month-Old Achieve its Milestones
Here are ways to help your little one achieve its milestones sooner:
Tummy Time Games - Play games with your baby that places him in a tummy time position and encourages neck-muscle movement. More tummy time means a faster transition to crawling as well.
Talk To Your Baby - Babble on or say words to your baby even if he doesn't understand at first. Talk about how your day went or what the menu for dinner is. His hearing and vocabulary skills will improve this way.
Connect Words with Gestures - Your little one will make associations faster if you display actions and follow up with words. Routine speaking and doing will teach him to process verbal information on a subconscious level.
Play With Toys - Toy train track sets are one of the best ways to train your little one in the art of tracking moving objects. Tie a string to a toy car, move it around and motivate him to crawl and catch it.
There's no magic formula for achieving the necessary milestones. Just keep practising, be gentle with your little one and he'll get there sooner than you'd expect.

Does Tea Help to Induce Labour?
Some of the herbal tea varieties have long been used by midwives and grandmothers to induce labour at the end of a long pregnancy. If you are overdue, you may have the urge to induce labour using these methods. Although it’s possible it’s not necessarily a good idea, continue reading to know all about labour induced through teas.
Teas Used for Inducing Labour
Here are some of the tea varieties that possess labour-inducing properties:
1. Red Raspberry Leaf Tea to Induce Labour
Tea made out of red raspberry leaf is supposedly beneficial for toning the muscles of the uterus which will help it work more efficiently when you go into labour. Toned muscles will help the labour progress much smoother without fatigue once underway. However, it is not recommended to have raspberry tea to kick start labour once you’re due. It could cause bad contractions that can distress the baby. It is recommended to start taking increasing doses of the tea gradually from the time you’re about 32 weeks.
2. Basil Tea to Induce Labour
Basil is an emmenagogue, which means it is a substance that can increase the menstrual flow. Basil tea has other compounds then can help smooth muscles to relax and bring on a late period. In higher doses, basil and oregano tea can induce labour. Midwives and natural health care providers have used this combination to induce labour in women who are overdue. It needs to be had several times a day for the effect to kick in.
3. Black Cohosh Tea to Induce Labour
[caption id="attachment_215466" align="alignnone" width="300"] Source: Pinterest[/caption]
The Black cohosh is a herb that belongs to the buttercup family. Also called snakeroot, the root of black cohosh is used as a tea to induce labour. It is also available as tincture and capsule along with tea. The herb is supposedly similar to estrogen in function.
4. Blue Cohosh Tea to Induce Labour
[caption id="attachment_215475" align="alignnone" width="176"] Source: Pinterest[/caption]
Blue cohosh is also called as papoose root. It’s a herb used by native Americans in as an aid to labour. The root is collected from the wild in autumn and dried. It is commonly used as tincture but is also available as tea or capsules. Blue cohosh is an antispasmodic which means it doesn’t increase contractions. Therefore, it is mostly used to avoid miscarriages by women. It is also taken by women in labour to help coordinate uterine contraction and make it smoother.
5. Chamomile Tea to Induce Labour
Chamomile is a herb closely related to the common daisy, and there are some reports of the German and Roman chamomile causing miscarriage. Hence the herb gets its reputation as being helpful in inducing labour although there is no credible evidence to back up the general belief. The flower of the herb is dried to make tea, capsules and extracts.
6. Cinnamon and Clove Tea to Induce Labour
Cinnamon and close are spices that are safe to consume in limited quantities during pregnancy. The effectiveness of cinnamon and clove tea in inducing labour hasn’t been demonstrated to a credible extent although it is tried with other herbs as a labour-inducer.
7. Cumin Tea to Induce Labour
Cumin tea has also been used to kick start labour by midwives in women who have mostly gone past their 40 weeks mark. The tea is known to stimulate contractions in women who have shot past their due dates. Like many other spicy foods, cumin tea increases the metabolic rate which is thought to stimulate labour potentially. Cumin tea, unfortunately, isn’t a pleasant tasting beverage. To overcome its bitterness, a small chunk of potato can be added into the mix while preparing the tea.
How to Make Your Own Tea to Induce Labour?
The method of preparing your own tea to induce labour is a bit different than the usual way of dumping hot water over tea bags in a cup. This takes a little longer and has a few extra steps.
Add one tablespoon of the herbal tea powder into a mug.
Pour boiling water into it.
Cover the mug with a saucer to conserve as much heat and steam as possible in the mug.
Let the tea steep in hot water for at least 15 minutes.
Strain the herb before drinking.
Consult Doctor Before Trying to Use Any Tea to Induce Labour
While some doctors agree that labour inducing varieties of tea do work, some are of the opinion that is all in mind. Although tea seems harmless enough, it’s unsafe to induce labour without consulting your doctor or midwife. They may guide you to use the best drink for your condition or warn you to against trying it at all.
Like all herbal preparations, the effectiveness of these tea varieties is not thoroughly established. However, they are used by midwives and herbal healthcare providers as a natural way to induce labour.

15 Easy To Make Christmas Card Ideas For Kids
Now that Christmas is around the corner, we’re all getting ready with our Christmas cards to be sent out. While a card from a store sounds nice, wouldn’t it be better if you did something creative? It costs a lot less, and you can also get the kids involved in the activity. We’ve created a list of 15 Christmas cards for kids to make this season.
Top DIY Christmas Card Ideas For Kids
Making a Christmas card is a fun and entertaining activity with an emphasis on creating a keepsake with sentimental value. The DIYs mentioned below are easy and wouldn’t take more than an hour each.
1. Magnet Sheets
Not all kids have perfect motor skills, which makes drawing complex figures a difficult task. Worry not! There’s a hack that you can use to let your kids make some basic shapes.
Material Needed
Pine/ Gift Shaped Fridge magnet, pencil, eraser, sketch pen, crayons
Steps
Use a pencil to trace the fridge-magnet on a card.
Use crayons to fill the pattern in.
Add an appropriate season’s greeting.
2. Buttons
Old or discarded buttons can be used to create the image of a row of Christmas ornaments.
Material Needed
Buttons, pencil, sketch pen, eraser, glue
Steps
Use a pencil to draw the string that holds all the Christmas ornaments together.
Draw a small connecting string attached to the main string.
Glue the buttons onto the card so that they appear to be hanging from the connecting strings. Your kids can even use multi-coloured buttons to make the card look radiant.
Use a black sketch pen to darken the pencil shade.
3. Footprint Reindeer
This is another DIY that can use the active involvement of your little one.
Material Required
Large red bindi (about an inch), non-toxic brown paint, plastic eyes, black sketch pen, a few twigs, glue
Steps
Apply the paint to your toddler’s foot and ask them to stamp the card for about a minute.
Use glue to apply two plastic eyes in the area below the toes.
Apply a large bindi at the tip of the heel (this will be the nose).
Use some glue to place two twigs on either side of the toes (ears).
4. Clip Art
This DIY allows kids to put up images that are too complex for them to draw, such as Santa on his sleigh.
Material Needed
Scissors, glue, printer, desktop/PC, internet connection
Steps
Find and print images on an A4 size paper.
Cut and stick the images onto the card.
The letters M-E-R-R-Y-C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S can be printed out separately and glued together to spell the same on the card.
5. Fingerprint Tree
A fun to-do project, this is one of those Christmas card ideas that needs teamwork and can be done by siblings.
Material Required
Pencil, scale, non-toxic green paint, sketch pen
Steps
Draw a vertical line (the trunk) in the middle of the card. The line should cover up 3/4th of the space of the card.
Draw a horizontal line (bottom branch) from the base such that it intersects the vertical line at roughly 1/6th the distance from the bottom. The length of this line should be about ½ the length of the vertical line.
Draw lines that join the end-points of the horizontal line with the top end of the vertical line such that a triangle is formed.
Use a sketch pen to darken the pencil shade.
The kids can now dip their thumbs in green paint and use it to fill up space in the triangle.
6. Paper Plate Santa
Make a 3-D image of Santa on your card using a paper plate!
Material Required
Red chart paper, paper plate, cotton swabs, sketch pen
Steps
Use a scissor and cut a paper plate in half.
Cut out red chart paper in the shape of a triangle such that the base is the same length as the diameter of the paper plate.
Use glue to stick the base of the triangle to the cut section of the plate.
Use a sketch pen to draw a nose and eyes.
Glue the cotton ball along the circumference of the plate such that it looks like the beard.
Glue the Paper Santa onto the card with a Christmas message.
7. Handprint Christmas Tree
This is a DIY where you can involve your infant in the project (with some supervision, of course!)
Material Required
Non-toxic green paint, yellow paper, brown-coloured crayon, scissors, glue
Steps
Use a crayon to make a small trunk for the tree.
Dip your child’s palm into the paint and press it on the card to make leaves. If you are using your toddler’s palms, use multiple prints to make a tree.
Cut the yellow paper into a star and stick it to the top of the tree.
8. Felt Paper
This involves a lot of cutting and allows versatility in terms of what images you want on the card.
Material Required
Multiple sheets of felt paper of different colours, scissors, glue, sketch pen
Steps
Choose the image of a Christmas tree, gift boxes, or even just plain text reading “Merry Christmas.”
Cut the felt paper with a scissor to the shape that you picked and stick it onto the card.
9. Potato Snow Man
Any leftover potatoes in the house? Use one of them to help you out with the card.
Material Required
Potato, knife, paintbrush, white acrylic paint, red felt paper, scissors, glue, sketch pen
Steps
Cut the potato in half and make sure it's cut evenly.
Use a paintbrush to apply the paint onto the cut surface of the potato. Avoid dipping the potato into the paint as it can cause the paint to spread unevenly.
Press the painted potato onto the card.
Cut felt paper into a heart and a carrot for the nose and embellishments.
Use a sketch pen to draw eyes and stick-arms, and write a Christmas message.
10. Fingerprint Christmas Lights
This is similar to the button project done earlier, except that the buttons are replaced by paint.
Material Required
Pencil, scale, non-toxic paint, sketch pen
Steps
Draw a squiggly line diagonally across the page.
Your kids can dip their fingers in paint and apply pressure on the card. Make sure they do it in such a way that the tip of their fingers just barely touches the line.
Write a Christmas greeting to complete the card.
11. Twig Christmas Tree
Do you have a garden at home or stay near a park? Go on a twig hunt to build your very own miniature Christmas tree.
Material Required
Bundle of twigs, cardboard, scissors, glue, sketch pen
Steps
Cut the cardboard into the shape of a pine tree.
Place the twigs horizontally/vertically onto the pine-shaped cardboard cutting with the help of some glue.
Cut out the twigs in the shape of the cardboard below so that it takes the shape of a pine tree.
Use some glue to stick the cardboard onto the card.
Use a sketch pen to add some season’s greetings.
12. Embroidery Thread Tree
This is the toughest DIY from the list and must only be done by children who are 10-12 years old, with adult supervision.
Material Required
Compass, pencil, eraser, scissors, embroidery thread, needle, scotch tape, A4 size paper, glue
Steps
Use a pencil to lightly draw the shape of a pine tree onto the card.
Use a compass to punch holes across the outline before using an eraser to remove the pencil shade.
Pass the thread through all the holes of the card with the help of the needle and fasten it from the inside of the card using scotch tape.
Stick an A4 paper with glue to the inner part of the card to conceal the thread work.
Use a sketch pen to write a season’s greetings.
13. Hand-Shape Reindeer
A DIY variant of the Foot reindeer, this one involves the palms.
Material Required
Non-toxic brown paint, scissors, twigs, red bindi, plastic eye, red felt paper, sketch pen
Steps
Apply the paint on the palm of your kid's hands and make them put an imprint on the card. Make sure that the fingers are imprinted at the bottom, denoting the legs.
Glue a plastic eye on the base of the thumb imprint.
Stick the bindi at the tip of the thumb imprint denoting the nose.
Stick two small twigs at the base of the thumb, a little away from the eyes.
Cut the felt paper in the shape of a heart and place it at the centre of the hand imprint.
Use a sketch pen to write a Christmas greeting.
14. Nail Polish Gifts
Have some old nail paints lying around? Use it to keep your kids busy and make some beautiful Christmas cards while they’re at it!
Material Required
Nail polish, pencil, sketch pen
Steps
Draw a pattern of your choice on the card with a pencil and darken it with a sketch pen.
Use the nail paint to fill in the colours and add a Christmas greeting.
15. Washi Tape Family Photo
This is one of the few Xmas card ideas that indirectly involves the whole family.
Material Required
Washi tape, pencil, scale, scissors, family photo
Steps
Place the picture on the card and make a note of where the edges of the photograph fall.
Make cuts along the card to hold the photo.
Use a pencil and a ruler to make a border.
Stick washi tape between the photo and the border.
Cut out the area that is not covered by the washi tape.
Handmade cards have a greater emotional value than store-bought cards. While the kids themselves can make most of these cards, make sure you supervise them if they are using objects like scissors and needles. Try out as many of these easy Christmas cards for kids and brighten your family and friends' celebrations with these handmade Christmas cards. Have fun!

Why You Should be Sleeping on the Left Side During Pregnancy
“Sleep more often” - something a mother-to-be often hears when she is expecting. Just a piece of simple advice to moms-to-be to make sure the child can grow soundly; however, only a pregnant woman knows the hassles of how difficult it can be to get some sleep. Sometimes it is the baby kicking; on other occasions, the pressure on the belly causes pain and keeps her awake. Even if she manages to catch a few minutes of a precious nap, how to sleep is her next concern. Mostly, women prefer sleeping on their back or belly. But it is a strict no-no during pregnancy. When you are carrying a child, you’ll need to take some extra care - even if it is about simple things such as whether you should be sleeping on the left or right side.
Why Do Sleeping Positions Matter in Pregnancy?
The liver is on the right side of our body. So, if you sleep by pressing down on your right side on the bed, then the posture mounts pressure on the organ. This can choke the liver and curb its natural functioning. Letting the body function at its highest potential is all we want, and it becomes a priority when you are pregnant. You would want nothing to come between your child and his nutrition. Hence, you should make more space for your organs to function normally. Sleeping on the left would obviously then become the option where the liver would get ample space to optimally function.
The prenatal stage has several steps where the foetus grows in size with each passing day. With each passing day, the growing baby also starts putting pressure on the organs around and on blood vessels. And then when the child starts moving, he expects more space. The cramped up belly would not offer much for the baby to relax, and he starts kicking the bladder and headbutting into the mom’s intestines. Many find this amusing, especially those who are not experiencing it. But, it is really painful. It becomes even more painful when the time comes to snooze.
The Inferior Vena Cava or IVC is one of the many body parts to get affected by these daily changes. In a woman’s body, the IVC runs along the right side of the spine and goes down to bring back blood from the lower part of the body. Sleeping on the right can constrict these blood vessels.
The mother-to-be's health is of great value during pregnancy. Avoiding putting pressure on the organs is a step that should be taken to maintain good health. When you put pressure on the IVC, then the vein passage gets choked, and blood passes in small amounts only. The lack of supply of the oxygenated blood to the heart and brain can make you feel a little woozy. If you sleep on your back, the child puts pressure directly on the IVC. Your child’s nutritional state depends totally on you. So, if you get less oxygen, then the child would get less as well.
To maintain optimal nutrition, what you can do is to avoid pressure on either the organs or the veins to let them function to their fullest capacity. Your sleeping body should lie on your left side to allow more space for the IVC. Researchers are yet to find anything conclusive on which side is the best, but ideally, it should be the left.
Why do Doctors Recommend Sleeping on Left Side When Pregnant?
When the flow of blood back to the heart decreases, the heart pumps less blood. And when that happens, a slight fall in blood pressure may occur. The IVC can receive pressure not just from the baby’s weight but from uterine muscle, amniotic fluid, placenta, increased blood volume, etc. This fall in blood pressure is also known as hypotension. Many mothers are safe from it, and they may not notice much variance. But you should always avoid such situations.
A healthy mother may not realise such a difference, and the child may cope up with such irregularities; but why give it a chance? It becomes all the more important if the mother has breathing complications or if she is suffering from blood pressure. Slight irregularities then can cause a ripple, and the child can get affected by that. That is why sleeping on your left side during pregnancy becomes important.
The importance of sleeping on the left side becomes paramount if the pregnant woman suffers from asthma or sleep apnoea. It means the baby receives less oxygen than the optimum level. And sleeping on your back can only curb the child’s oxygen intake more. Many studies have shown that the chances of stillbirth grow invariably with the supine posture of the mother during sleep. Records published in the PLOS One journal in 2017, shows that the chances of stillbirth are 3.7 times higher when the mother sleeps on her back. One study in The BMJ has found a slightly higher rate of stillbirths in mothers who slept on their right side.
But whether left or right, sleeping on one side for ten long months is not at all a great idea. This can affect the mother’s body structure and can trigger body aches and pains. So, the best way to stay in healthy shape is to keep switching sides. At the same time, babies prefer comfort. If you are sleeping on the left, then the baby would invariably move to the right more to have ample space. But if you keep on doing this often, then this can trigger a condition that is called 'right-sided babies', which can cause back labour. Right-sided babies do tend to take refuge in the back which can cause such a problematic situation. This would be uncomfortable, and the long labour caused by this can cause inconvenience.
How to Sleep on the Left Side During Pregnancy
Well, there is no particular way to suggest how to sleep on your left side. While sleeping, finding a comfortable posture is more important. Having a sound sleep is what you should look for. Switching sides would allow the baby to explore the pelvic landscape better. But while sleeping on left or right side, you can always try the exaggerated side-lying position. This particular posture requires you to lay a bit forward and rest mainly on your frontal part of your hipbone than on the belly. It would relax the belly and assist the baby in finding a comfortable position. For better support, rolling down a towel under the upper leg or the hip bone can allow the mother and the baby optimum movement. The bottom leg should be straight down and the top one bent on the towel. This is to open up the hip area more while allowing the baby to rest in the pelvic region. Lying down more on the hip bone can cause sciatica where the nerves can get more affected. This is a common type of lower back pain that can affect pregnant women by causing discomfort and pain.
As far as when to start sleeping on the left side is concerned, it has no clear cut time frame. It is better to avoid sleeping in a supine posture as soon as the mom-to-be gets to know of her pregnancy.
The more the mother cares for her unborn child, the better the chances are for the baby to be born healthy. Little tricks such as sleeping on the left or right side while being pregnant can help. What matters the most is having a sound sleep.

My Baby - My World - My Love - My Happiness - My Stress Buster!
Being a mother is a divine thing which cannot be expressed in words but can only be experienced. Taking care of a newborn is something very precious. When it comes to my baby, she is my world. Taking care involves bathing, feeding, burping which ultimately leads to building a strong bondwith the baby.
Bathing
This is a very tough time for me because my baby while doing oil massage she feels very happy and she enjoys doing body massage. But while bathing she cries so much that it makes me feel bad, but it is a common thing among all infants. After taking a bath, she feels very fresh and happily sleeps for at least 2-3 hours after having milk.
Feeding
While feeding my baby, I take so much care so that she feels comfortable while drinking and I make sure that she has enough milk to fill her little stomach. Burping is as essential as feeding in my opinion. I hold her on my shoulders for at least 10mins so that she takes burps so that the milk she had gets digested quickly.
Bonding
Day-by-day bonding between my baby and me is increasing. She has started recognising me and always smiles looking at me. She resembles me. She is entirely a photocopy of me. The more we interact with the kids, the more they grow and become more active.
Sleeping
Sleeping during nights was very difficult during the early weeks of my baby. She used to wake up very often, so we both did not have enough sleep during nights. But gradually as she is growing the time she sleeps during nights is becoming more. She wakes during the night for 3-4 times, but after having milk, she falls asleep.
But sleeping pattern will be different each day for any baby and also it changes weekly they say. For a few days, she used to sleep so much during the night and for some more days she used to be awake the whole night. So the sleeping pattern will be different which cannot be predictable.
Vaccination
This is the toughest thing a mother can face. During vaccination, babies cry a lot, and they get a fever for a couple of days because of vaccines. My suggestion is after giving vaccine make sure the hand and leg for which the vaccine was provided must be taken care of so much so that baby should not feel any pressure on that hand or leg. Make sure to apply ice cube over the injected area so that it avoids swelling. Make sure to check the baby's temperature very often and give oral paracetamol drops once in every 6 hours for 48 hours so that fever gets controlled for the baby. During this time baby will feel uncomfortable while drinking milk and at times may not feel like drinking milk but make sure that the baby drinks milk which helps baby to feel better.
The most important thing that I want to share with you all is that every baby is different from every other baby. So I request all the parents not to compare your baby with other babies.Every baby has its style and own patterns. This is the story of me with my baby. Love you loads my baby!!!
