2 Year (24 Months) Old Baby Food Chart
Food habits change rapidly as your infant grows. Within the first two years, your baby will have begun teething, moved on to solid foods, and more or less integrated with family mealtimes.
How Does Your Toddler’s Meal Time Change?
Your child will have begun eating solid foods as they start teething. They are impatient and even flighty around mealtimes.
At one and a half years (18 months), toddlers usually manage to handle a spoon to feed themselves.
By 24 months, your child will have joined the grown-ups table as a regular!
Some Useful Steps to Form Good Eating Habits in Your Child
A toddler’s eating habits and tastes are only being established as he first starts eating solid foods. This is the time when parents should strive to build a healthy eating habit.
Delay your child’s introduction to fast food and sweetened aerated drinks, and help build a preference for fresh, wholesome food.
Stick to strict meal timings. Establishing a routine will lead to your child developing a fixed mealtime by getting hungry at the right time.
Do not feed your child heavy snacks or lots of liquid rights before mealtime.
Each meal should last for 20 minutes and no longer.
Food for 2-Year-Old Baby
While a balanced diet is essential for us, children need a boost of nourishment that helps them grow.
1. Dairy Products
Milk, yoghurt, and paneer are all rich in calcium. Calcium helps build strong bones. In case your child is lactose intolerant, he may need to take calcium supplements to make up for a gap in the calcium intake.
2. Chicken
Chicken and other non-vegetarian foods contain good quantities of easily absorbable iron. Iron helps power haemoglobin in the blood and prevents anaemia. Iron found in vegetarian food is harder for the body to absorb, and hence your child will need to consume at least twice as much of it to get the required amount.
3. Fish
Fish is a good source of Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs). EFAs help builds immunity and strengthens the cardiovascular system. Vegetarians will need proper substitution of EFA sources, as it is not produced in the body and can only be gained externally.
4. Healthy Oils
Flaxseeds, walnuts, soybeans, and other nuts and their oil contain reasonable amounts of EFAs.
5. Carrots
Carrots are famous as a rich source of vitamin A. Spinach, kale, and other vegetables also contain high levels of Vitamin A. It is essential to include foods rich in different vitamins in your child’s diet. Vitamin A helps in bone development.
6. Citrus Fruits
Lemons and oranges are renowned for their vitamin C content. Deficiency of vitamin C can lead to serious diseases like scurvy. Vitamin C helps in strengthening gums and blood vessels and recovering from bruises. Guavas, mangos, bananas, tomatoes, and spinach also contain Vitamin C.
7. Sunshine
Although this isn’t technically a food, it is something the body absorbs, so we have decided to include it in this list, considering the integral role it plays in growth. The element we gain from sunshine is vitamin D. Vitamin D is essential for a child to achieve his maximum growth potential. Foods that contain vitamin D are fish and dairy products.
8. Bananas
Magnesium and potassium, both elements that are essential for cardiac health, and muscle condition are found in bananas. Incorporate this beneficial fruit into cereals and other foods to make it a staple.

½ teaspoon coriander powder
½ teaspoon cumin powder
¼ teaspoon garam masala
200gms paneer
150gms potato

Add the paneer (Paneer should be crumbled or grated).
Add 3 tablespoons of rice flour and salt to taste, and mix again.
Take small portions of the mixture and shape into patties.
Coat with rava and fry in a shallow pan until both sides are golden brown. Serve with ketchup or chutney.
5. Soya Chunks Fry
A healthy and tasty dish that is simple to make. It goes great with both chapattis and rice!

½ tsp red chilli powder
2 tomato, finely chopped
Coriander leaves
2 tablespoons oil
How to Prepare
Immerse the soya in hot water for about 20 minutes.
In a pan, saute the onions in oil.
Once the onions are golden-brown, add the garlic and ginger.
Add the green chillis and then the tomatoes.
As the mixture cooks, add the seasoning and mix well. Turn off the flame.
Now, drain the soya chunks (You may need to squeeze them with the help of a sieve to drain them well).
Add the soya chunks to the mixture and begin cooking again.
Add salt to taste and mix the contents of the pan thoroughly so that the soya chunks are well coated with the masala (You can also add a bit of lemon juice to this, for a hint of tanginess).
Cook in a pan till the soya chunks are browned.
Turn off the flame and garnish with plenty of finely chopped coriander leaves. Serve warm.
Feeding Tips
While providing healthy food for 2-year-old baby do not fixate on the amounts eaten. This will change from child to child and between different days and mealtimes.
A 2-year-old toddler’s food requirement does not have to include artificial supplements.
Indian baby food recipes for a 2-year-old can be spicy. If your child is fussy about this, you can experiment with reducing the amount of seasoning, especially red chilli powder.
Give your child notice before every mealtime. This gets them thinking about food and builds up an appetite.
Have the food ready and plated for mealtime when your child arrives.
Do not punish or reward your child’s eating habits as it can create a problematic attitude towards food and harm your child’s relationship with food.
Don’t allow your toddler to watch T.V. during mealtime, as he needs to focus on the food. Talk to him instead and include him in conversations with all the family members.
Eating nutritious food that is fresh and doesn’t contain preservatives is seen by many as something that takes too much effort, but with the right motivation, it can be a habit and not a chore!
Disclaimer:
Look out for allergies. Your child could be allergic to certain nuts, grains or dairy products. Make sure you avoid these food items and consult your doctor about the allergies.
When introducing your toddler to new foods, you should ensure that you introduce new food one at a time as this will make it easier for you to check for allergies and help you understand your child’s preferences.
If your child is suffering from diarrhoea, don’t stop feeding him. Consult a doctor and feed him foods that are nutritious and can control the diarrhoea.
Don’t force-feed your toddler. Toddlers can be fussy with food, be patient and know when he has eaten enough.

4 to 6 Months Old Baby Food Ideas
The growth of a newborn baby is so drastic that you'll be surprised that a munchkin that tiny can grow so fast. And what aids this rapid growth and development, is the food that the baby consumes.
Nutrients Essential for 4 to 6 Months Old Infant
Breast milk is the healthiest food for any baby for the first six months. But that isn't all. By the time your baby hits four months, you will have to start incorporating other foods that are packed with nutrients as well.
The first nutrient that a baby needs is protein. There's a good reason why proteins are known as the building blocks or our body and are considered one of the most important nutrients. Proteins help in the growth as well as repair of the muscles and tissues. Infants need this, as, at this stage, growth happens at a rapid phase.
Iron is the next most important nutrient. Iron is great for brain activity and haemoglobin. A newborn child has enough iron that will sustain for about four months, a post which you will have to incorporate this into the child's diet.
Omega 3 fatty acids come up next because they are great for your baby's vision, brain development and cognitive skills.
Calcium is one of the most important nutrients for a four to the six-month-old baby as it helps in bone and teeth development. A minimum of 500 mg a day is a must. Breast milk has quite a good amount of calcium, as does baby formula. Make sure you give your baby enough calcium as this makes bones and teeth stronger as well.
Vitamins are essential too. Vitamin A and C is great for your baby's skin and vision. Vitamin B is necessary for boosting your baby's immunity and metabolism. Vitamin D is best for healthy bones and Vitamin E for the development of the nervous system. Vitamin K helps in preventing blood clots.
A minimum of 3 mg of zinc is a must, as it helps in the production of white blood cells that aid in boosting the baby's immunity.
Carbohydrates are needed for energy, so that's another nutrient that your baby needs
Can You Introduce Solid Food to Your Baby?
Babies aren't capable of digesting solid food until about four months, so once your baby is four months old, you can start giving semi-solid and solid food at a gradual pace.
Firstly, your baby should be able to support his/head and hold it upright. Secondly, when you place your baby in a sitting position, your baby should be able to stay that way without support. If your baby's weight is almost double compared to the birth weight, then that's a green signal too. Another sign that your baby is ready for solids is when the baby starts pushing food into the back of the mouth instead of outside the mouth.
Food for 4 to 6 Month Old Baby
Your baby is tiny and your baby's tummy- tinier. This means that you need to take this really slow, so start by introducing the following foods in small portions. Here is a list of four to six-month baby food -
Banana - Bananas are not just tasty, they make for one of the best baby foods as well. The fact that this fruit is soft and mashable is a plus as well. Bananas are rich in potassium, which is a great mineral for your child.
Rice - Rice is good for babies as well. A boil is till its semi-solid and mixes it with milk for your baby.
Oatmeal - You can give oatmeal with milk, just like rice for your baby. Oats have a high fibre and mineral content.
Avocado - Like bananas, this fruit is soft and can be mashed too. Rich in vitamins and minerals.
Apples - You can give your baby apples as well. Just make sure you remove the peel. If you want to put the peel, make sure you grind the fruit well.
Carrots - Boil a carrot and mash it up for your baby. Your child might not like the taste very much, but it does make for great baby food.
Peas - green peas can be boiled and mashed. You can give your baby this with some salt.
Potatoes - Mashed potatoes with a pinch of salt are high in carbs, and your baby will love it.
You could mix a few of these fruits and vegetables for 6 month old baby food recipes.
Feeding Tips
Your baby is not going to dig into the new food right away. Be patient with your child.
Try to distract your child with toys. Once your baby gets the taste of the food, it gets easier.
Don't stuff your child.
Make sure you give tiny sips of water to wash down the food.
Make sure you make the baby burp after eating.
Never feed your baby if he or she is crying. The baby might get chocked.
Every milestone in your little one's life is a big deal. Introducing your child to solids is one of those. With the right kinds of foods and tips, your baby will be eating well in no time.

Prolonged Labour - Causes, Signs and Treatment
The closer D-day gets, the lower is the patience level! There is excitement, happiness and incredible restlessness to meet the little one. Therefore, the thought of the birth being delayed, prolonged or obstructed on D-day is emotionally disheartening.
Prolonged labour can cause serious harm to the baby or the mother and may be life-threatening. Below we shall explore what it is and how it can affect you.
What is Prolonged Labour?
Prolonged Labour is also known as failure to progress or slow progress of labour. When the duration of labour is abnormally more, it is bracketed as prolonged labour. Prolonged labour has no definite definition as at different stages, the delay differs, and the causes also differ.
Prolonged Early Stage of Labour: When labour prolongs for more than 8 hours without progressing to the first stage.
Prolonged First Stage of Labour: when labour prolongs for more than 12 hours without progressing into the second stage.
Prolonged Second Stage of Labour: This usually takes five to thirty minutes. But it is prolonged if it is:
2-3 hours for a woman who has been pregnant before.
1-2 hours for a woman pregnant for the first time.
So, one is in prolonged labour if the labour lasts more than 20 hours; if its twins or multiples then prolonged labour is declared at 16 hours.
What Are the Causes of Prolonged Labour?
The causes of prolonged labour occur at physical, emotional and social levels. But three principal causes are the 3Ps passage, passenger, and power.
1. Obstructed Labour (Passage)
When the pelvis of the mother is too small, or the passage through which the baby is to come out is small for baby’s head to pass through the labour is prolonged. Rarely, an unusually shaped pelvis or some other obstruction in the passage such as a tumour will also lead to prolonged labour.
2. Foetal factors (Passenger)
The causes are due to the passenger or the fatal. The foetal continues to grow even after the due date, the baby is too big, and the head is too big to pass through the pelvis.
3. Weak Contractions (Power)
One of the major causes of prolonged labour is lack of power in contractions. The contractions are not strong enough to induce pain or able to push for the delivery.
Signs and Symptoms of Prolonged Labour
Signs and symptoms of prolonged labour include :
Labour beyond 18 hours: the most prominent sign is the delay.
Maternal exhaustion: The mother's clear sign of weakness may be a sign to predict prolonged labour
Other physical symptoms such as unbearable back pain, high pulse rate and a tender uterus also warn of a prolonged labour
Ketosis: a complication of dehydration, and a lack of carbohydrates (or glucose) for energy in the body. It is the result of the abnormal accumulation of ketone bodies.
Factors That Can Increase The Risk of Prolonged Labour
1. Obesity
Gestational diabetes, pregnancy hypertension accompanied by obesity can increase the size of the baby than the average. Also, such health complications can make the mother weak and the fat around the birth canal can cause problems.
2. Being Too Skinny
Lack of nutrition in the mother leads to lack of nutrition in the foetus and the uterus causing complications to the 3Ps explained above. Hence it is important to take care to be fit and strong. Sometimes a small body would indicate a small pelvis that might delay the baby’s arrival.
3. Decrease in Muscle Mass
One of the causes for the decrease of muscle mass in a pregnant woman is lack of exercises and proactiveness. Labour is a very active and strenuous procedure for the body. It requires good muscle function to progress smoothly through labour, a decrease in muscle mass will reduce strength increasing risk of the slow progress of labour.
4. Advanced Maternal Age or Very Low Maternal Age
The most convenient age group for the body to give birth smoothly is the late teens to the early thirties. Anything before or after is a time that the body is not prepared.
A very young body is not anticipating a birth and hence is not prepared or strong enough to give birth.
Mothers giving birth the first time at an advanced age need to be extremely fit or else, may run into health complications such as gestational diabetes
What Happens if Your Labour Seems to Be Going Too Slowly?
In the face of slow progress, the only way through this is to stay as calm as possible.
One of the immediate things done when prolonged labour is recognised is to relax the mother emotionally and mentally, through the presence of a strong companion, pain relief or any other element which may distress the mother.
One may be given natural or pharmacological pain relief.
The health team will closely monitor the 3P’s (Power, Passage and Passenger) to understand and take necessary actions to quicken the progress.
Such tests include continuous foetal monitoring to check baby’s heart rate. An IUPC (Intrauterine Pressure Catheter) to check the power of contractions may also be used.
Complications of Prolonged Labour
Prolonged labour can cause serious complications in the mother or the baby. Extreme being the death of the mother or the child. But advanced technology and science have reduced such complications.
Other complications in the mother include:
Infection
Uterine Rupture
Genital Fistulas
Problems for the baby include:
Infection
Asphyxia (reduced oxygen to the baby) and traumatic injury
Stillbirth
How is Prolonged Labour Treated?
The treatment or solution is appropriate ‘prolonged labour management’. This is a medical term that means cautions and precautions taken by the health team to reduce the slow progress of labour:
Early detection of certain problems during trimesters with the 3Ps and the health of mother will help in progressing towards better fitness.
Detecting true labour from false labour is one of the first precautions to be observed so as to not induce unnecessary pain and stress.
Help in inducing labour pains to increase the power of the uterus to push.
Change in the positioning of the mother to improve the procedure of giving birth more efficiently
Usage of partogram to record all observations.
Baby’s heart rate to be monitor hydrate the mother enough to empty the bladder every two hours.
If certain complications do arise during the natural labour, usage of vacuum extraction to pull out the baby could be used.
The final solution would be a C section. The doctor might even advice and prepare you during the trimesters for the same.
How to Reduce the Risk of Having Prolonged Labour?
The risk of failure to progress or slow progress of labour could be drastically reduced by the following precautions:
Healthy Lifestyle: To stay fit and proactive, one has to take care of themselves by maintaining a healthy diet and sticking to an exercise regime.
Stay Stress-Free: Think about how happy you will be to your baby in your arms. Block out any fears that are there in your heart by thinking only positive thoughts.
A poor lifestyle is the main causes of complications during labour. You can go for regular check-ups so that the obstetrician can spot any issues like obesity or low muscle mass. The power is in your hands and by adopting the right approach, you can minimise prolonged labour.
