If you love to eat meat, then it will be hard to give it up. When you are pregnant, you will wonder if you can eat meat or not. So, read to know if you can eat meat during pregnancy.
Can Pregnant Women Eat Meat?
Yes, pregnant women can eat meat. Moreover, meat is recommended for pregnant women owing to its high protein value. However, there is a catch here. If you consume undercooked or ground meat, it can be harmful to you and the baby.
What are the Risks of Eating Meat while Pregnant?
There are certain risks involved when you consume excess meat or raw meat during pregnancy. Read on to know how it is harmful to you:
1. Listeriosis
Deli meats are highly susceptible to bacteria that may cause an infection called listeria. Such an issue could further lead to meningitis, gastrointestinal issues or even an infection in your blood. A study shows that a pregnant woman has 17% chances of contracting listeriosis.
2. Toxoplasmosis
Be it lamb, pork, or venison meat; the chances of developing toxoplasmosis increases when the meat is not thoroughly cooked. Avoid eating undercooked meat as toxoplasmosis could even pass on to your baby, and that is not at all a favourable situation.
3. Gestational Diabetes
Pregnant women who devour red meat during pregnancy in more than desirable quantity are likely to develop gestational diabetes. When such a condition arises, your blood sugar levels increase consequently. If you do not pay heed to this health concern, it may result in your baby being overweight or you developing type-2 diabetes.
4. Food Poisoning
There are certain kinds of fish that may lead to food poisoning. Non-smoked fish, shark, and raw shellfish are a complete no-no if you are pregnant.
Tips to Eat Meat the Right Way
The following tips could help you opt for healthier eating options.
1. Cleanliness
It is strictly recommended to wash your hands before and after chopping meat, seafood, or poultry. Also, wash the utensils to ensure they are bacteria free.
2. Isolation
Meat and other food items should be kept at a safe distance. This step helps avoid transmission of any bacteria to your other food items including vegetables, fruits, and salads.
3. Refrigeration
It is recommended to keep your meat frozen until you cook it. No matter what, refrigerate your meat to avoid adverse consequences.
4. Thorough Cooking
As already mentioned, raw meat is strictly not recommended for pregnant woman. Therefore, always cook any form of meat.
5. Avoid Marinades
The ingredients that are used to soften cutting of meat are called marinades. Avoid reusing them as they may be prone to harmful bacteria.
6. Keep Away from Fresh Pre-Stuffed Poultry
Fresh pre-stuffed poultry is generally prone to bacterial development owing to the presence of raw meat juices present in it. Thus, always choose a better option, i.e. frozen pre-stuffed poultry.
FAQs
1. How to Ensure that Meat is Safely Cooked?
Use a food thermometer to measure how well your meat is cooked. If your beef, pork, or lamb is about 145° F, it is more than enough. Also, you could judge by colour whether your meat is thoroughly cooked or not. If your meat does not appear pink in the middle, it means it is cooked well.
2. Is It Safe to Eat Lunch Meat or Smoked Meat or Cured when Pregnant?
Deli meat or lunch meat should not be served to a pregnant woman until steamed well up to 165° F. Same, goes for smoked meat and meats that you have cured yourself. This is because these meats are more prone to bacteria that may even continue to multiply under refrigeration. Therefore, steaming is the only viable option available.
3. Can Pregnant Women Eat Blackened or Grilled Meat?
Eating grilled or blackened meat on an occasional basis is more than fine. But if you love such meat and eat it frequently, it may lead to severe disease like cancer. This is because frying or grilling can lead to the production of cancer-laden acids called heterocyclic amines.
4. Is It Okay to Eat Meat from Livestock that were Given Antibiotics?
If your meat is thoroughly cooked, there is no harm in eating meat from livestock that was given antibiotics. The only harm would pertain to the fact that such meat may contain antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
Looking at the vital information about how meat could affect your pregnancy, you would be sure by now what kind of meat you should eat.

Indigo Children- Who They Are and the Challenges They Face
Indigo children are special and the game changers of humanity. They view the world through a different lens and cut through societal clutter and systems. Sometimes, it may take a while before a child realizes that he is of the Indigo origin, while some awaken way after teenagehood or after becoming adults.
Who Are Indigo Kids?
Indigo kids are children with supernatural gifts or talents, designed to lead humanity. They are the changemakers of the world and are very confident or strong-willed. These are children who are destined to guide souls and Indigo kids see the oneness of the universe. You and I know that we are individuals or different beings but Indigo kids don't see it that way.
Traditional or restrictive parenting doesn't affect them in any way as they have a mind of their own. Also, some Indigo children struggle with feelings of disconnect or frustration due to the weaknesses or flaws they see around the world.
They carry an aura that transcends all. Indigo children's eyes are also usually deep azure and green and are intensely expressive.
Characteristics of Indigo Children
Here are the most common characteristics of Indigo children:
Creativity
They are creative in remarkable ways. From artistic skills to being able to paint, draw, and express themselves through different media all at a young age, Indigo children are one-of-a-kind geniuses.
Well-developed Intuition
From being able to sense when something is awry to making the right decisions in heated moments, Indigo children have high intuitive abilities. Their perception broadens due to this and they're also able to see aura fields. A good example of high intuition is being able to tell someone's backstory without talking to them on the first meeting.
Born Leaders
They have leadership skills in them naturally and tend to tap into it at a very early age. You can expect these children to lead people with their charisma and passion.
Psychic Connections
Indigo children will love to learn about topics related to spirituality, telekinesis, and telepathic or psychic abilities. They constantly hone their skills in this area and believe in fostering a deep connection with the Universe. Some Indigo children are also believers of the Law of Attraction and notice it manifesting in every aspect of their lives.
Laser Focus and Memory
Indigo children aren't just creative or psychic wizards. They also have a razor-sharp memory and laser focus. They're able to think on their feet and recall events from years ago. Other Indigo children abilities include having an eidetic or photographic memory. They're also very intelligent and make good rational decisions.
Destined for Greatness
One of the Indigo children traits is that they know they are special. They feel destined for greatness and feel it within their bones.
Rebels or Misfits
Indigo kids have their own quirks and intricacies. They don't fit in with people and may be introverted. The key takeaway is they won't see things from the same angle as others do. This may lead to heated debates with them proving themselves right and others wrong, losing friends and allies in the process of change.
May Face Anxiety or Depression
This is tied to our previous point but if Indigos don't have an outlet to vent their feelings or views, they may get anxious or depressed. If they're forced to conform to norms, they may even have suicidal tendencies but these don't last forever.
Challenge Authority
People who are high up in power become the Indigo's targets. If they don't believe in someone with authority, they end up challenging them. And end up proving them wrong or overturning them. It's part of the big change.
Guide Others
Once Indigos find their true calling and work their way towards it, they do everything in their power to guide others. Indigo children mission examples include changing the world, starting a new revolution or doing something radical along those lines.
Are Driven from Within
A relentless drive is the trademark of Indigo children. They have boundless energy and enormous willpower. Sometimes people around them get flabbergasted from their infectious energy and positive vibrations. They don't know the meaning of getting tired.
May Feel Lost
This is for those Indigos who haven't started working on the big change. This trait occurs in awakening Indigos who realize they just don't fit in. This leads to feelings of seclusion and isolation since they just don't get along with the crowd and know that they're different.
May Feel Frustrated
Indigo kids may feel frustrated because of the way the world works. Sometimes the changes they expect from others don't happen in an instant and that frustrates them.
Challenges Indigo Children Face
Some of the challenges Indigo children face are:
Depression and Suicide
Depression, suicide, melancholy, and disconnection with others are some of the problems faced by Indigo children. This is because they don't see eye-to-eye with everyone and notice flaws in systems glaringly. Despite noticing, they cannot say anything because it hurts others. Due to this, they bottle in the emotions they experience, leading to negative thoughts, depression, suicidal tendencies, and similar feelings.
Morality and Integrity
Indigo children have a special ability to just know when people are lying or being dishonest. This trait is one of their unique characteristics and makes them mindful of the people they come in contact with.
ADHD and Restlessness
As Indigo kids can't sit still or are always on the move, theyare often diagnosed with ADHD. They have something in the works and their inventive minds work around the clock. It's amazing to see what they can do this way.
How Can We Help Indigo Kids Fulfill Their Mission?
We can help Indigo kids fulfil their mission in the following ways-
Be a Pillar of Support
Even if you don't see eye-to-eye with your Indigo kid or don't understand his views, support him anyway because you never know what the outcome will be.
Help Him Relax
If your Indigo child has a hard time relaxing or calming down when struck with panic attacks, just help him relax. This means guiding him through mindful or deep breathing or teaching therapeutic routines like Qi Gong and Tai Chai.
Teach Him How to Shield
Teach your Indigo kid to visualize a ball of white light shielding him every morning after he wakes up. This protects negative energy from making its way into his psyche.
Epsom Salt Baths
Epsom salt or sea salt baths are known to cleanse the aura and purge it from any negative spiritual debris.
Give Him Space
Set aside a quiet room in the house where he can be himself. The room should have no electronic or machinery equipment. Let him draw, doodle, paint, solve puzzles, or do whatever he wants in that room for a few minutes throughout the day or whenever he wants.
Indigo kids are exceptional beings and with a little nurturing as a parent, you'd be surprised how ahead of his peers he can go. In fact, they are the leaders of the new world and you should be proud you have one in your family.

Are Headphones Really Safe for Kids?
It is a part of keeping up with the trend these days for the kids. Gadgets have become a lifestyle statement. The more the exposure, the better the chances of adopting them and going with the flow. Headphones do look cool on your ears and if that is of a definite brand, then it is a style statement. At the same time, exposure to different media is triggering the need to have headphones for your kid. Be it music or movies, for your kids, grooving along the beats are fast becoming an integral part of life. But is it really safe? You have heard plenty regarding radiations and its adverse effects on hearing ability and brain. And as a result, you are hovering between to buy it or not to buy it for your kids.
Can Children Use Headphones?
As a parent, many prefer to keep their child engaged during a long flight or drive. What they don’t consider is the built of it. An adult headphone is not the ideal one for a kid. The ear canal of a kid is much narrower and loud music can trigger problems with hearing.
However, the negatives are not unavoidable. There are headphones specially designed for a kid. You can encourage them to listen to it by keeping the volume level within the prescribed range, that is mostly within the 60% of it. In addition, keep an eye on them just to make sure that they don’t listen to it for more than an hour at a stretch.
What are the Drawbacks of Using Headphones for Kids?
There are certain drawbacks of kids using headphones and as a parent, you should be aware of that before handing them over a cool pair.
Loud noise can adversely affect hearing.
Headphones can make your kid less cautious about his or her surrounding, which can cause harm.
It can trigger vertigo.
Sharing headphone may invite germs.
Do Kids Really Need Headphones?
There are some good sides of a headphone and they can really help your kid with his or her physical status.
Noise cancellation ability of headphones can really help your kids ears. Sometimes when you are on the street, continuous honking can affect your ears. Headphones can protect your kid from such noises.
Any day better than the in-ear audio pieces. In-ear audio pieces can directly affect the eardrum.
Headphones designed for kids has a volume control technology inbuilt, unlike earphones. Hence, a single tweak in that would help them manage the sound level.
How to Choose Safe Headphones for Your Child?
While choosing a headphone for your kid keep these points in mind.
1. Headphone Size
It should be perfect. Not too tight or loose and should sit comfortably on your kid’s head covering the ears.
2. Better be Durable
Kids tend to break things accidentally often. Hence, choose one that would last longer.
3. Look for Your Kid’s Needs
Dyslexic children or kids taking ototoxic medicines are prone to hearing impairment. You should look for headphones that can cancel out noises.
4. Noise Limiter
It is always safe to buy a headphone after going through its sound specifics. Look for the maximum noise limit and try to make sure that your kid does not get exposed to high level of sound.
5. Design
Kids look for something fancy. The headphone should be cool in design and colour-wise alluring. And if it helps, one-of-a-kind. Otherwise, your kid may soon lose his or her interest in it.
Precautions to Consider While Letting Kids Use Headphones
After all these, you should take certain precautions before letting your kid groove to the headphone’s beats.
If you can listen to the music from a meter away then its too loud. Check the volume level.
If you can preset the sound limit, opt for that and maintain the permissible level.
Ensure that your kid takes a listening break every hour.
Try to make them aware of the adverse effects it can have on their ears.
FAQs
Apart from these issues, there are certain things that you should remember while giving your kids a brand new headphone. These are questions we often tend to miss.
1. Headphones Vs Earphones Which are Good for My Child?
Headphones have this noise cancellation facility which is any day better than earphones. Earphones directly send the sound to eardrum which you should avoid at any cost. In addition, they tend to carry germs. These reasons give headphones advantage over earphones. Forget earbuds, headphones for kids are ideal.
2. Wireless or Wired Headphones Which Should I Buy for My Kid?
Wireless headphones are definitely preferable. You have to keep in mind that your kid is quite active and a wireless one can get tangled around his or her body. But wireless ones do possess quality issue if you place it far from the device. To go by recent trends, you can always opt for Bluetooth headphones that are quite effective.
3. Can Babies Wear Headphones?
Yes, they can wear headphones, provided you are taking all the precautions. There are specifically designed headphones for babies which you can use to give them the best-quality music while taking care of him or her.
As long as there are rules set on the use of headphones, the right kind of headphones can be safe for your kids. Just make sure that they aren't blaring music away all day long to avoid damage to their ears. With babies, you'll need to be more careful with the kind of earphones you use. Ensure that you don't compromise on safety while giving your kids access to earphones.

Dealing With Dysarthria In Toddlers
Dysarthria is one of many types of speech disorders in toddlers. However, with the help of an SLP, treatment can help a child learn to speak properly. Educate yourself about this disorder and know what symptoms to watch for so you can seek help.
Speech disorders can hamper a child’s development and cause worry to parents. The good news is that with timely diagnosis and treatment, children can learn to speak clearly. Dysarthria is one such speech disorder. Knowing the causes, signs and treatment can equip you with the knowledge needed to help your child speak well.
What Is Dysarthria And What Should You Expect
Dysarthria is a motor speech disorder, resulting from impaired movement of the muscles used for speech production such as the lips, tongue, vocal cords, or the diaphragm. Dysarthria is often characterised by slow or slurred speech that may be difficult to understand.
What Causes Speech Problems in Toddlers?
Speech disorders in children can be caused by many factors. It could be a learning disability due to the brain working differently. Some toddlers who have a hearing disability could develop a speech disability as well. Other reasons include neurological problems like cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, and traumatic brain injury.
What Causes Childhood Dysarthria?
Several nervous system problems such as brain injury, brain tumours, and other conditions that cause the tongue or throat muscles to weaken can cause dysarthria. It can be caused at birth due to disorders such as cerebral palsy or it can occur later in life owing to conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, Lou Gehrig’s disease, and tumours. Some medications like narcotics and sedatives can also cause dysarthria.
What Are The Characteristics of Dysarthria In Toddlers?
Like many health conditions, the signs and symptoms of speech disorders in toddlers vary depending on the cause. The symptoms of dysarthria, too, vary but can include:
Slow and laboured speech
Slurred, choppy, or mumbled speech
Rapid speech with a mumbling tone
Abnormal pitch and volume of speech
Limited tongue, lip, and jaw movement
Changes in voice quality, such as hoarse or breathy voice, or a nasal tone
Diagnosis And Treatment of Dysarthria in Toddlers
Before treatment, a proper diagnosis is required by a specialist. Dysarthria is diagnosed in toddlers by having a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) evaluate the child. While checking for dysarthria, the SLP will analyse the movement of the lips, tongue, and face, as well as breath support for speech and voice quality.
Dysarthria in a 15-month-old baby may be treated differently than in a 3-year-old toddler, whose understanding of language is greater. The role of the SLP is to work with your child to improve communication abilities, while the aim of the treatment is to improve breath support so your child can speak louder, strengthen his facial muscles, slow his rate of speech, and increase tongue and lip movement.
Children suffering from speech disorders such as dysarthria need a strong support system from parents and families. It’s important for caregivers to work hand-in-hand with the SLP to help with speech therapy activities for toddlers, leading to effective treatment. Read more
