Are There Any Risks of Having Corn When You’re Pregnant?
No doubt, corn has many health benefits for pregnant women. But you should take care not to go overboard while consuming corn. Corn consists of fatty acids, which put pregnant women at the risk of heart ailments. Some pregnant women may suffer from indigestion on eating corn.
Keep These Things in Mind...
These points will enable you to get the most from corn during pregnancy:
Consume corn within a few days of buying it.
Refrain from removing the husk to retain the freshness of the corn.
Store corn in the refrigerator in an airtight container.
Pregnant women should eat fresh corn instead of canned or frozen corn.
Avoid sprinkling artificial sweeteners on the corn kernels.
Tips to Cook Corn the Right Way
Boiling corn is the best way to prepare it. Removing the corn’s outer husk and silk, place it in a big pan. Add water and salt and cover the pan. Fresh corn requires only 3-4 minutes to boil. Don’t overcook the corn as this will harden the kernels.

The Tale of Raising Two Kids- A Balancing Act of Parenting!
Someone once told me having one child makes you a parent but having two makes you a referee! What they forgot to mention was that having two kids also means four times the work.
My elder one was 3.5 years when my younger child arrived. All of a sudden it seemed that there were never enough hours in a day. Schedules went haywire, routines got disturbed, nights and days seemed to melt into a blur of sleepless, exhausting hours.
Does it get any easier? is a question friends who are contemplating a second child ask me. Yes, it does. But each new stage brings its own set of challenges. And there are two little beings who are growing up together, each reaching different milestones. So yes, it’s definitely a juggling act; one where you are perpetually scared of dropping the ball.
That doesn't mean you don't opt for a second baby if that's what you have planned for. It just means that you need to be well-prepared for the chaos that will follow for a couple of years. From experience, I can say that these tips go a long way in easing things up.
Stick to a schedule. From the time I arrived home with my younger one, I started and stuck to a schedule which incorporated both kids. This not only made my elder child feel included in the routine, but it also gave her a sense of security that not everything had changed after the baby's arrival.
Take help. We all love to manage things single-handedly but with two kids, that's not always possible, at least not if you want to stay sane! There is no shame in taking help from your partner, in-laws, parents and even friends. If you can afford to and are comfortable with the idea, keep a nanny. Believe me, an extra pair of arms to hold the baby goes a long way in taking the burden off you.
Start exercising as soon as your body permits it. Even if you just go for a walk, do it. Not only will you feel better about yourself, but it will also give you some much needed 'me time'. Remember, a happy mother raises happy kids!
Don't be judged. While there may be many well-wishers who heap advice on you, be confident of the fact that, as a mom, you know what's best for your kids. Every child is different, even two siblings are drastically different so don't set your goals according to others' expectations. Listen to everything and then sift and use only that which applies to you.
Give your older child extra attention. No matter what the age difference, it’s a huge adjustment for a child to suddenly have attention shift from him/her to another human. Try and ensure that you take time out to do something exclusively with your older child. You should also include him/her in things like helping you change the baby, getting clothes for the baby and other tasks which will make him/her feel a part of being an elder brother or sister.
Last but not the least, give youself a break. It’s okay to feel frustrated and irritated. There will be up days and down days and it shall pass. Keep telling yourself that each day that passes is a day closer to your baby being independent and before you know it, you will be busy refereeing between two kids who are old enough to keep themselves entertained!

Fun Learning Ideas for Kids Using Sand and Water
Young children are fascinated with water and like to play with it for endless hours at a time. For them, water is exciting and is a new discovery in the new world. Similarly sand is also something that attracts children. A combination of sand and water is, of course, a beach. However, it is always not possible to go to a beach. Also, in some areas there are no beaches nearby.
This exposure to sand and water can be a great learning experience for children. You can teach them earth elements through this activity. It is extremely relaxing and refreshing for children to play with sand and water. While parents are eager to walk their children through this activity, it is also of utmost importance to take care of their safety. One of the greatest safety measures that can be taken by a parent is to supervise the child and be watchful at all times.
Now, it’s time to introduce some fun activities which you can use to play with children:
1. Treasure Hunt
This is a very simple yet effective activity. On a sheet of plastic or in a big tub, keep a few plastic animals. Then, pour 2 buckets of sand on top of them. The task for the child is to hunt for the animals. During this activity, your child will dig in the sand, which will not only improve his arm muscles, but will also ensure that he starts thinking of ways to find the animals. This further improves the thinking skills and neurological development of the child.
2. Who Floats
In this activity, you need to place two buckets of water. In one bucket, keep a few plastic balls, which will float. In the other bucket, put some stones and pebbles. Teach the child which things float and which ones do not float and also let him know why. Also, allow the child to play and try putting different things in the water. You can also place some other items on the ground like handkerchief, matchsticks, etc. and the child can try putting things in water to check if it they float or not. And while the child is doing so, you can share the logic of the same.
3. Explore Water
In this activity, you can place your child in a tub full of water. Also place some water toys in the tub and let your child play with them. You can also teach properties of water by asking fun questions like, “Can you hold the water with one hand? How about two hands?” Splashing hands in water is super fun activity and helps build your kid's arm muscles. Thus, it is a good activity to improve his motor skills.
The days when children are super enthusiastic about water will go by very soon. It is a good idea to maintain a memory album – either a hard copy or a soft copy, so that these beautiful days can be relived with your child when he/she grows up! Read more

Things To Look For in your Child's Drawings
Children’s drawings have always been a subject of research and study for a long period of time. Psychologists believe that drawings can give an insight into a child's thoughts and personality. Children love to draw anything and everything and their drawings are a reflection of their inner world.
Let’s look at the 5 drawing stages that your child goes through:
1. Scribbling
Initially, when given a sheet of paper and crayons, a child starts to scribble. Although this is more of fun and learning to hold crayons and see different colours on paper, there could be more observations at this stage. While a child is scribbling, it is important to notice how fast the child’s arm is moving and how big those movements are. Ask your child what he is doing while he is scribbling and listen to his comments carefully. It is unbelievable how much can be reflected about your child’s inner world through this.
2. Emergence of Shapes
As a child continues to draw, you will notice that scribbling has taken form of shapes. The shapes that your child draws and their size matter. For e.g., if it’s a circle, see how big or small the circle is and what colours the child has infused in these shapes. They talk a lot about your child’s current state of mind and the personality which is emerging.
3. Drawings based on Figures
Gradually, figures start emerging in the drawings. This happens typically around the age of four years. Only faces emerge without body or hands, while sometimes hands emerge out of the head! Psychologists say that these figures and their formation talk a lot about the intellectual growth and object relation of the child.
4. Stage of Symbolism
This is when more concrete images start to emerge like sun, house, garden, etc. All that your child is seeing around him and on television gets registered and your child starts forming an impression of things. This is usually observed around the age of five years. These are the things that have registered in your child’s mind. The colours that your child uses in these images reveal a lot about their inner self. Bold and bright colours may suggest that your child is an extrovert. If light and subtle shades are used, it gives you a glimpse that your child is building an introvert personality. However, there is no concrete evidence of this as research is still underway.
5. Grouping
By the time your child is between five to six years of age, he understands the concept of groups and the different forms of groups. For example, they understand family as the first close knit group and then comes school and friends. They start developing different levels of attachment in different groups and the same is also revealed in their drawings.
In case you see anything which is unusual or different in your child’s drawing – like a glimpse of aggression, which means two people fighting – then you need to ask probing questions and understand where those thoughts and feelings are coming from. If it is repeatedly reflecting in your child’s drawing, you need to delve deeper and understand the underlying root cause. Read more

6 Ways To Be Absolutely Sure Your Baby Is Safe At Home
Your baby is so little you are afraid something will hurt him. His tiny hands and feet are delicate to touch, and the sight of him sleeping is the best thing you have ever seen in life! As new moms, you constantly find yourself worrying about your baby’s well-being. Yes, he is at home, but is he safe?
We have brought you some excellent ways to ensure your little darling is perfectly safe and happy. This will automatically translate into peace of mind for you and the entire household!
Babyproof everything in this list
Furniture, drawers, door, bed/crib, kitchen, bathroom and staircase – these feature in your list of things that absolutely must be babyproofed. Kids are energetic and curious right from the outset and will touch and play with everything they shouldn’t! Find here* tips from real mommies on how they babyproofed their house.
Keep a close watch when you are away from home
When Mamma is away, the baby is cranky! He is also doubly more likely to wreak havoc at home! But how can you keep a watch on him when you are away? Easy peasy – all you need is a baby monitor. Get one by Motorola that also allows you to talk and sing to your baby and also notifies you on your smartphone if anything seems off.
Wash, scrub and clean all these items with extra care
Your little one is at a vulnerable time in his life. He is much more prone to infections, seasonal illness and germs than you are. This makes it important for you to heed these items more carefully – bed linen, milk bottles and cups, upholstery and baby clothes. However, make sure you don’t go overboard either as too much sanitisation inhibits your baby’s immune system.
Make sure your older kids and pets are not up to this
An elder sibling makes a great babysitter – but also one you need to be careful about! Little children are very excited about the baby in the house, and in your absence, can indulge in, err, energetic play. If you also have pets at home, the need for monitoring only goes up. Your best bet is to install a home monitoring system; Motorola, for example, video records all the activities at home and lets you stream it real time. This way, you’re constantly in tune with what’s happening in and around home.
Make sure the room temperature and conditions are comfortable
Babies are very susceptible to environmental changes. A sudden rise or dip in temperature, air pressure and humidity can make them fussy, or worse, unwell. Endeavour to keep the baby’s surroundings comfortable, fresh and clean. Your safest bet is to use a device that lets you constantly monitor and, if need be, fix this. Some baby monitors now have the feature of tracking room conditions as well. This, and these other 9 unbelievable things, are now possible for you and your baby!
Protect your baby from these common household hazards
We are talking about burns/scalds, suffocation and fire. Since our households have several causative agents of these, namely plastic bags and gas burners, we need to be very careful. Keep all possible agents that can cause choking, suffocation or burns away from the baby. This includes small toys, furs, nut-bolts, matchboxes, etc. Also make it a point to get your home’s wiring and electrical system checked from time to time.
Nothing is more important for you than the safety of your baby. Don’t worry, Moms. Adhering to these home safety tips will keep your baby fit, smiling and growing up fast! Read more

Our Bundle of Joy Arrived Like an Angel in Pink!
Almost a year ago around the same date, we had begun our journey together from 2 to 3.
Reports from the doctor confirmed that I was pregnant. Both my husband and I were awaiting a beautiful baby. Started the journey with a lot of inhibitions, calculating the age of the little soul within me each day, thinking would it be a Princess or a Prince who will fill our lives with joy forever. This life-changing event would not have been any easier if my dear husband had not been with me. He took every step I took, everything I wanted, every need of mine, he took care of. He stepped up from being a husband to being a mom, friend, guide and doctor for me.
Our belief to have a healthy pregnancy was to act as normal as possible in our day to day life. I definitely felt lethargic sometimes but active most of the time. Only then I realised, Pregnancy, carrying a baby within you is not a tough thing at all. We would hear a lot of stories during pregnancy, but no one shares the good stories only to make us more worried. So here I am sharing my most memorable moment of life.
We always chose natural birth over a C-Sec which is more common these days. Hats off to those mothers who opt for C-Sec as that is not easy at all. Unfortunately, their understanding is they would be able to take the pain of C-Sec than Normal. But to all the expectant mothers I must say Pain in standard delivery is only something that you can take, it not unbearable. If I can say “God only gives so much pain that you can take” so please think twice before opting for a C-Sec assuming you cannot go through the pain.
I have only followed what my midwife told me and did not listen to any of the old wives tales. I did my physical and breathing exercises each day along with some walking and mopping the floor. Kept my diet healthy and my mind relaxed with some devotional music expecting my baby will like it and kick me inside; however, she seemed to like Big Boss more and kicked me each time I saw the show. (Advice- This is all you need to do if your pregnant. All the doctors told me “Your Pregnant not a patient” so all the ladies out there stay calm and happy like you do every other day.)
One beautiful morning around 6:30 am, my dear little soul within me decided to see her Mom and Dad and the heavenly world. She gave a clue she was coming, and hence we landed in the Hospital. Then comes the most crucial moment, the doctor announced that my baby is going to be out by Noon which made me nervous. Once again my husband proved that he is the best man ever and stood by me holding my hand for the next 6 hours when I was in labour.
After a while, I didn’t know what happened, but I had a bunch of people around me asking me to breathe so I stay calm to bring the baby out. Then I hear a voice from the doctor …. It’s a Girl. Wooohoooo I delivered a princess, I got life into this world, and I felt complete.
In seconds I had transformed from a woman to a MOM.
And here is my angel ...

A. A lot of times normal delivery is actually seen in these cases also if the doctor is quick and the child cooperate then yes normal delivery is very much possible but some doctors don’t take a chance with the health of your child and so they normally suggest C-section so let’s see what’s your situation by the end when you are into your labour
