Stretch Marks During Pregnancy
Almost every mother earns her stripes, but rarely is one proud of hers. Stretch marks are one of the few pregnancy symptoms that carry over into a woman’s postpartum life. Although they never completely fade, there are several ways to prevent them, and if that does not work, treat them. Read on for some simple solutions to the problem
What Are Stretch Marks?
Stretch marks are depressed, small streaks that appear on the skin of a pregnant woman towards the later stages of pregnancy. The elastic fibres under the skin tend to break because the body grows faster than the skin’s ability to cope with. You may notice these marks on your tummy, buttocks, thighs and even on your breasts. They may appear pink, purple, reddish brown or brown on your skin. The colour of your skin determines the colour of the marks. They eventually fade away with time but do not completely go away. These marks are also genetic, which means if your mom had stretch marks, then there is a good possibility that you will have them too.
Causes of Stretch Marks in Pregnancy
These tiny tears in the skin may be caused by various reasons. Some common causes of stretch marks in pregnancy are following:
Gaining weight is very normal during pregnancy; however, if you gain weight rapidly, you may get stretch marks on your skin.
Having excess amniotic fluid.
Carrying multiple babies
If your baby’s weight is more than average.
If your mother or sister had stretch marks during their pregnancy, you may have them too.
If you are a young expecting mother.
If you have had stretch marks in your teens.
How to Prevent Stretch Marks?
Following are some of the measures that you can take to prevent stretch marks in pregnancy:
Keep yourself hydrated. It is very important to keep yourself well hydrated during pregnancy in order to facilitate your increased blood volume and building the water sack for the baby. The lack of water in the body or dehydration will hamper the elasticity of your skin, making it prone to damage because of stretching skin
Include gelatine in your diet. The collagen in gelatine helps improve skin’s elasticity. You may include gelatine in your diet to prevent the marks.
Include vitamin C in your diet. You may take vitamin C rich diet, as it is very effective in the formation of collagen and cartilage. It is recommended to include foods rich in Vitamin C, such as guava, kale and green bell peppers, rather than taking supplements.
Use coconut oil for moisturising. Coconut oil is an excellent source of saturated fatty acids and these do not get easily oxidized, thus it provides good moisture to the skin and prevents stretch marks.
Check for a zinc deficiency. If you have a zinc deficiency, then it hampers your body’s ability to produce adequate collagen and antioxidants. Therefore, you should include zinc-rich foods, such as eggs, chicken and nuts to prevent the marks.
Use oil treatments. You may use various oils such as castor oil, vitamin E oil and other essential oils to improve the elasticity of your skin. These oils have antioxidant properties which are helpful in free radical damage and in preventing stretch marks.
Use cocoa and shea butter. Shea and cocoa butter work wonder to keep the skin hydrated and moist by stimulating skin’s renewal process, and thus preventing damage.
Use over-the-counter stretch mark serums. You may also use serums available on the market to keep your skin moist and hydrated.
Eat foods that improve your skin elasticity. It is recommended to include food rich in gelatine, vitamin A, C and E to help improve the elasticity of your skin and keeping the marks at bay.
Monitor your weight. Sudden or rapid weight gain in pregnancy also leads to stretch marks, therefore, keep your weight in check and gain in a healthy manner to prevent them.
Home Remedies to Remove Stretch Marks
Stretch marks cannot completely go away; however, some home remedies are effective in fading them, such as:
Use alfalfa leave. These leaves have detoxifying and antifungal properties. The paste made of alfalfa leaves and chamomile oil can be applied to the affected area twice a day for results.
Use sandalwood and turmeric. You may apply a paste made from equal amounts of sandalwood and turmeric, on the affected area. Scrub off the paste to get a brighter and even skin tone. You may apply this paste for 5 to 6 months to see an improvement.
Use potato juice. You may apply potato juice on your stretch marks and wash it off with warm water. Apply for a few months to see them fade.
Apply apricot paste. Make a paste from the apricot fruit after deseeding it. Apply to the affected area for a few minutes and rinse off. You may repeat it on regular basis to get rid of the marks completely.
Apply lemon juice. You may apply lemon juice on your stretch marks and let your skin soak it for a few minutes. Rinse with warm water and repeat regularly for best results.
Apply sugar scrub. Make a scrub with sugar, lemon juice and almond oil and apply before bath every day for a few months to lighten.
Use eggs whites. You may apply egg whites on the affected area and let it dry. Wash with cold water and apply olive oil. Use this treatment for a few weeks to fade away the stretch marks.

Evelyn Name Meaning and Origin
Traditionally used as an English surname, Evelyn is an Anglicization of the old French feminine name Aveline. Derived from unknown Germanic roots, Evelyn may have meant 'desired, wished for' or 'water, island.' The name Evelyn was introduced by the Normans into England and was primarily used as a gender-neutral name. Evelyn has evolved as a unisex name used for both boys and girls over the years. After decades of obscurity, Evelyn has made a comeback to the baby name stage as a soft and feminine given name, thanks to its similarity with the name Eve.
What Does Evelyn Mean?
An anglicized form of the Norman-French given name Aveline, Evelyn was initially used as an English surname in the 19th century. Evelyn can be a combination of the names Eve, who was the "first woman" to be born on Earth, and Lynn, which means "life" or "living" in Hebrew. Thus, the meaning of Evelyn refers to 'mother of life' or 'full of life.'
Origin
Evelyn is an Anglicization of the Irish Aibhilín or Éibhleann. The name Aibhilin comes from the Norman French Aveline. Éibhleann is said to have originated from the Old Irish óiph, meaning ‘beauty.’ Derived from the Middle English and Old French female given name Aveline, Evelyn is a diminutive of the Germanic given name Avo which in turn comes from the word ‘avi,’ meaning “desired” or “wished for.” After surpassing its former heights of glory, Evelyn has gained prominence in a contemporary form joining the likes of little Evas, Avas, Eves, Evies, and Evelines.

6 Important Steps We MUST Take To Teach Our Sons To Respect Women!
It's the 21st century and women today walk shoulder to shoulder with men. We are a part of the workforce and are seen and heard in almost every field - even those considered to be solely for men! However, despite this progress towards an equal world, we are still far from achieving equality. Issues like wage gap, impossible beauty standards, and victim blaming in sexual harassment cases are proof of this inequality. And our children are growing up amidst all this...
Years upon years of ingrained misogyny and gender bias have been holding us back from truly achieving gender equality. This unequal view of the two genders has been passed down generation to generation – men are held at a higher standard as bread winners and consequently look down, or are disrespectful, towards women – at times without even being aware of it.
As parents, we are responsible for shaping the outlook our children have towards the world. It is our responsibility to ensure that our sons respect our daughters and our daughters are not left behind.
There are certain steps we must take to ensure that our children not only believe in but actually practice gender equality too!
1. Set an Example at Home
Children learn by example and its time you show them the kind of values and behaviour you want to inculcate in them. Share the load with your hubby and talk to your son about how it’s not a compulsion for a woman or a man to follow gender roles – it's a choice. Doing so will make your son understand that that both mom and dad are equally responsible to run the house – irrespective of gender.
2. Keep them Informed about Current Affairs
As per their age, make sure that your kids are informed about the happenings of the world and tell them what is wrong and what is right – from eve teasing to female foeticide. Understanding the difference between what's good and what’s bad will help them understand that they need to respect women early on in life.
3. Refuse Gender Roles
If you have kids of different genders, avoid enforcing gender roles on them. Involve both your kids equally in household chores and encourage both of them to take up what they wish - whether it be a 'boy' sport or a 'girly' sport. Ensure that both of them get equal opportunities too.
4. Block Access to Media with Disrespectful Content
As your child grows older, he will take cues from the media that he is exposed to, and at times, learn values from them too. Make sure that the different forms of media that they are exposed to do not propagate gender inequality or are disrespectful towards women. This includes TV shows, cartoons, as well as online content.
5. Take a Stand When you See Someone Being Disrespectful
As mentioned above, your little one is taking cues and lessons from you all the time – even when you think he isn't. Therefore, set an example, not only in the house but outside as well. Take a stand when you are witness to disrespect towards women.
6. Listen and Provide Space for Expression
Most kids are vulnerable to peer pressure as they don't feel comfortable voicing their opinions and expressing their dislike. By providing a space for them to do so, you'll be able to make them more comfortable and confident in their beliefs, and consequently help combat peer pressure overall. This will also aid in promoting gender equality.
Today, more often than not, parents think about teaching the right values for their kids. However, we often forget that they are the future of the world and that their actions can affect more than just them or their family! Moulding them in the right way can have a ripple effect that can change the world! Ultimately, all we can do is take one step at a time. Read more

Why Kids Lie And What To Do About It?
When you catch your kid lying for the first time, it is normal to feel betrayed and disappointed. While lying is considered as bad behaviour, it is a normal part of growing up in children. Moreover, white lies, which are said in order to be polite, can be an important social skill in kids.
However, if you find your child lying to you often, it is important that you do not feel frustrated. Instead, you can use positive reinforcement methods to encourage them to tell the truth.
Why do Kids Lie?
Kids aren’t born with a moral code that distinguishes between right and wrong. This is learned behaviour. Through interaction and examination of their environment, they gradually learn these codes of conduct. Since their cognition and understanding of the world is also in the process of development, they may lie for various reasons at different ages.
1. To Avoid Getting into Trouble
One of the most common reasons why kids lie is to avoid getting punished. If they understand that there are consequences for breaking a rule or not doing what they were supposed to, it is likely that they will lie instead to avoid being punished.
2. A Response to Peer Pressure
Children may also lie in order to feel like they fit in better with their friends. This is often done in order to impress friends.
3. To Get What they Want
If you tell them that they would be given something after completing a certain task, they may lie in order to get the reward. They may even lie to avoid doing the chore.
4. Too Many Restrictions
If there are a lot of restrictions imposed on the kids and they are asked to give details of everything that they do, they may feel trapped. Such kids are likely to lie to in order to have the independence of enjoying normal things.
5. To Avoid Hurting Other’s Feelings
Some kids gradually learn to say white lies in order to seem polite and not hurt others. Telling their aunt that they love the gift even if they aren’t very fond of it is one such white lie. Most kids learn this either after being told to do so or out of consideration for others feelings. This may lay the edifice of certain social skills in kids.
6. To Get Attention
Kids who tell tall tales may be trying to get their parents’ attention. Kids with a vivid imagination may also lie to make their stories more creative.
When does a Child start Lying?
Children may begin to lie as early as around 2 years old. Since their language skills are still developing and they aren’t able to recognize the difference between reality and fantasy, they may not understand moral importance of telling the truth. Although, lying may start very early in children, the reason for lying changes as their cognitive skills and understanding of the world develops.
Children under the age of three lie in order to avoid punishment or to avoid doing something that they don’t enjoy. If they are asked about a mistake, they may bend the truth or outright lie in order to avoid being reprimanded or punished. They may even be reacting to your tone when you ask them if they did something wrong. If you sound angry, it is likely that they will lie in order to avoid that anger. Punishing these toddlers for lying may have no effect as they are usually not able to wrap their heads around why they are being punished.
Between the ages of three to seven, kids are often unclear about the distinction between reality and fantasy. This is when you may notice them telling you about imaginary friends and getting creative with their lies. They may even insist that this fantasy world is real.
Kids between the age of eight to twelve understand what it means to lie. They may often test what they can and cannot get away with as they lie. This is when you can expect lies regarding homework or work that they do not want to do. At this age, lying tugs their conscience and they begin to feel guilty for having lied.
Once children enter their pre-teens and teens, they tend to lie for various reasons which may include not wanting to be reprimanded, peer pressure (desire to fit in), etc. At this age, they are completely aware of the repercussions of their lies and understand that they have a choice.
Helping your Child to Stop Lying
If you catch your child lying, it is important to react appropriately in order to not scare them further into lying. Here’s what to do if your child lies to you.
1. Stay Calm
If you react aggressively when you catch your children lying, it is likely that he will repeat it again in order to avoid your anger. Instead, talk to him in a calm and composed manner. This encourages him to avoid lying or come clean the next time.
2. Understand the Reason:
Find out why your child is lying. You can ask him directly once he’s admitted to lying. You may find out that there’s a reason behind his lies. He might’ve been scared of the repercussions. You can even initiate this by asking him if he was scared of telling the truth. If you find that your kid has bragged about things that he hasn’t done, he may be suffering from low self-esteem.
3. Explain that it is Wrong to Lie:
If your child broke something or made a mistake calmly tell him that mistakes are common and they happen. However, lying about it isn’t acceptable and that he needs to take responsibility for his mistakes. This will help them understand that the next time they wouldn’t need to lie to cover up a mistake.
4. Avoid Asking Questions that will lead to a Lie
Instead of asking your child if he’s done his homework, you can ask him when he plans on doing it. This will give him the chance to tell you his plan rather than cooking up a lie.
5. Appreciate Honesty
If your child comes clean about a lie, it is important that you appreciate him for it. If you react negatively even when he has opened up to you, there is a chance that he will not do it again to avoid your anger.
6. Avoid Punishment
Don’t punish your child if you find that he’s lied. This is especially true for younger kids as it may impact his emotional health. Instead, use positive reinforcement and praise him for accepting that he’s lied.
7. Limit your White Lies
Kids need good role models to look up to. They learn a lot of behaviours from their parents as you are a yardstick to how they perceive the world. Hence, it is important that you do not lie in front of your kids. This also means, not lying on the phone about where you are or other little lies that are considered acceptable to adults. Also, limit telling too many white lies. Although it is important for your child to learn them as he grows older, it can give him mixed signals about what kind of lie is acceptable. Rather than assuming that your child will find out eventually, try limiting your white lies until your child has a clear understanding of why these white lies are being told.
8. Bond with your Child
If your child has been lying to get your attention, make sure that you spend quality time with him. The first few years of development are crucial in helping set his moral compass right. It also tells him that you are available if he needs to speak to you about anything.
In kids, lying starts as something that is innocent; but if not checked at the right time, it can grow into something more serious that can affect them in the future. If you find that your child lies to you often, stage an intervention and talk to them calmly. Explain to them that lying is wrong and has its consequences. It is also important that you build a comfortable relationship with your kid which allows him to reach out to you without any fear. In case your child lies pathologically, seek professional help. Year after year, students find themselves in that exact same boat, and that stress extends to their parents too! It’s not like parenting wasn’t tough enough already but to be a parent of a child studying for an important exam, that’s taking pressure to a whole new level!
As if the stress of caring for your child as he studies, cooking nutritious meals that keep him alert, refraining from pressurizing him, ensuring he gets enough sleep whilst also silently feeling bad that he has to go through this taxing time isn’t enough, there’s more. There is dealing with society’s idea that intelligence is only evaluated through high scores, that a person’s worth is only defined through academic excellence , that success lies in financial progress alone and that scoring higher grades is the only way to achieve success!
Among the sea of posts that went out 2 days ago congratulating CBSE, ICSE, and State Board exam toppers and kids scoring above 90% marks, was a post that gave us some much-needed parent goals!
Vandana Sufia Katoch, a mother of two, proudly applauded her son for wading through his exams and scoring a 60%! Here’s what her honest and emotional post read:

And if Aamer takes his mother’s advice, we’re sure his ‘innate goodness, curiosity and wisdom’ will change the world, if not his ‘wicked sense of humor’!

Q. My breasts feel full and heavy, but there’s no milk when pumping and during feeding baby —what do I do?

A. Hello there ma’am please do not worry about it too much. But it is really very difficult to say anything without proper examination. It is advisable to get yourself evaluated by a doctor and follow doctors advise properly. You can also book online doctor’s appointment on FirstCry where the doctor can help you and guide you properly.
Thanks and take care

A. Yes it is the what part is that your child is kicking if you feel that there is a movement of your child whether it is a cake or slight movement also you know that your child is doing fine so there is no problem in that if the movement is less it’s completely alright

A. Nasal blockage is very common, specially in small children because of the narrow nasal cavity. Any kind of saline drops like nasal clear will be helpful in dissolving the stuffy secretions, which can be taken out by vnasal aspirator gently also steam inhalation will be helpful also, try to avoid keeping the child directly under the fan.
