Provera Drug Usage and Side Effects: Ovulation and Menstruation
Women who suffer from irregular periods are sometimes prescribed a drug known as Provera for regularizing the the monthly cycles and menstrual bleeding. It also plays a role in contributing to ovulation. However, it may have certain side-effects that need to be taken into account.
Provera aids in controlling the menstrual cycle and ovulation that involves the release of eggs from the ovaries on a monthly basis. It also prepares the womb lining for pregnancy and then sheds it when pregnancy does not take place (the process of monthly periods).
What is Provera?
It is basically a drug that comprises Medroxyprogesterone Acetate which is a kind of synthetic progesterone. The main purpose of this drug is to decrease heavy menstrual bleeding and cause withdrawal bleeding after stopping it. In fact, progesterone is one of the major female hormones that keep the menstruation cycle and ovulation in check during the childbearing years. Naturally produced progesterone in women also reduces the probability of endometrial Hyperplasia (a state that results in Uterine Cancer) while taking estrogenic hormones.
Other Uses of Provera
Medroxyprogesterone also obstructs overgrowth in uterus lining of postmenopausal women who are going through Estrogen Replacement Therapy (ERT). As a result, reducing the risk for Endometrial Cancer. Doctors also prescribe it for breast cancer treatment, alone or in combination with other cancer medications.
Provera for Stimulating Ovulation
Provera is usually prescribed for 10 days to women who are trying to get pregnant but do not regularly ovulate. It causes an artificial period to start, after which the fertility drug Clomid (Clomiphene Citrate) can be started. Clomid is usually started on the third, fourth or fifth day of the menstrual cycle to promote ovulation. However, one needs to remember that provera is not some magic pill that can solve all your fertility woes. In fact, overdoing on the provera therapy can prove to be a hindrance in ovulation and pregnancy, as the forcefully triggered periods can cause thinning of the uterine lining. Provera should be strictly avoided during the months when you suspect a pregnancy.

Who Should Stay Away from Provera?
Women should avoid taking provera in the following conditions:
If you have a liver disease.
If there is some kind of undiagnosed vaginal bleeding.
If you had or have breast cancer.
If you have a blood clotting disorder.
If you have lost your vision because of a blood vessel disease in the eyes.
If you are suffering from frequent episodes of Epilepsy.
If you have asthma.
If your cholesterol levels are high.
Side Effects of Provera
Following are the side effects of taking provera, which you may experience:
You start feeling dizzy.
There are constant fluctuations in menstruation.
Your exposed skin shows brown spots.
The breasts become tender and start to hurt.
You experience hot flashes.
There is a sudden appearance of acne on your body.
Constant, mild headaches.
Feeling of nausea.
Changes in weight, you starting gaining or losing too much weight.
So. visit a doctor and get your provera medicine prescribed but only after knowing if you are fit to take it. Like all medicines, provera also has to be used in moderation and for a limited time. Do not self-prescribe any hormone-altering drugs as they will only cause complications in conceiving and pregnancy. Read more

10 Warning Signs in Pregnancy You Should Be Aware Of
FEATURED IMAGE: SS 292331807 ALT:<10 Warning Signs in Pregnancy You Should Be Aware Of>
Pregnancy brings many changes in a woman’s body. While most of these are normal, some are not. So, knowing about and spotting the red flags early on is good for both the mother and the baby.
10 Pregnancy Warning Signs Which You Should Not Ignore
Here are some warning signs you should look out for.
1. Eyesight Problems and Headaches
Many factors including stress, hormonal changes, and fatigue could be a reason for headaches during pregnancy. A severe headache could be a sign of high blood pressure or preeclampsia (high blood pressure disorder).
You might even experience changes in vision like temporary vision loss, light sensitivity, and blurred vision. These problems might be linked to conditions like preeclampsia or gestational hypertension. Hence, it is important to seek medical attention to protect the health of the baby and the mother.
2. Severe Abdominal Pain
Many women wonder whether abdominal pain is normal during pregnancy. Discomfort related to round ligament pain is usually normal. But if you have pain in the abdomen along with chills or fever, then it might be a very serious problem. During cases like this, it is best to call a doctor right away and get professional advice.
3. Dizziness or Fainting
It’s normal during early pregnancy to feel slightly lightheaded. You might even experience dizziness later during your pregnancy because of conditions like low blood sugar levels or circulation problems. But if there is a persistent feeling of dizziness, i.e. if you feel like fainting or actually do go through it, or if it is combined with many other problems like vaginal bleeding, blurred vision, pain in abdomen, or headaches, consult the doctor so that the problem you have can be treated after identification.
4. Burning Sensation While Urinating or Urge to Urinate Often
If you feel like you have an increased urge to urinate but only a very few drops come out, or if you feel a burning sensation while peeing then this can be a sign of UTI (urinary tract infection). This infection has many other symptoms like chills, fever, or urine with a little blood. Your doctor will be able to diagnose the symptoms and get rid of the bacterial infection to avoid further complications. But remember that frequent urination is a very common side-effect of pregnancy when in both the first and the last trimesters. This is because, as the baby grows, it presses on your bladder.
5. Severe or Persistent Vomiting
Feeling nausea, along with vomiting, is a perfectly normal sign during your first trimester. This is known as “morning sickness”, but this does not mean that it occurs only during the morning. However, if this morning sickness is severe and along with other problems like vomiting blood and dizziness, then it might be a condition called the hyperemesis gravidarum. In this case, you should definitely go to the doctor. Consult your doctor if you experience vomiting after the first trimester to treat nausea.
6. Less or No Movement of the Baby
Women during pregnancies usually feel their babies kicking, fluttering, or turning between 18 to 25 weeks of the pregnancy. During the latter part of the third trimester, you can monitor the movements of the baby. Every day during these weeks, lie down for a while to help you keep track of the time it takes to feel 10 rolls, kicks, or flutters. It takes just a few minutes, but if you do not feel anything for an hour, then lie down again after a light snack. Record these movements on paper. If you feel the movement is absent, or if the baby is not showing movement like before for a few days, then call your doctor to check the progress of the baby.
7. Preterm Uterine Contractions and Vaginal Discharge (before the end of 37 weeks)
Although it is very normal to experience contractions, if these seem to persist or do not stop when you change or move your position and it becomes very regular and painful, then it might be a preterm labour sign. When this is the case, call your doctor as soon as possible.
This is a significant warning sign during pregnancy that occurs in the third trimester. Commonly known as “water breaking”, premature rupture of the membranes might feel like a trickle, uniformly leaking, or a gush of liquid from the vagina before the pregnancy has become full-term. It is best to call your health care provider if you notice this problem. Based on the number of weeks of the pregnancy, your doctor will tell you what you should be doing. When your water breaks once you are full-term, then it is a sign of the start of labour.
8. Vaginal Bleeding, Spotting, or Itching
It is normal to see spotting early on in the pregnancy. This is known as implantation bleeding. But bleeding is also a symptom of cervical infection or placenta previa. Bleeding during the first trimester might also be a sign of miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy. If you are unsure of what it is, then talk to your healthcare provider if you notice bleeding or spotting during the pregnancy.
Severe itching without a rash might be a condition usually called cholestasis. This is a liver condition that happens in late pregnancy. Call your doctor right away if you suffer from extreme itching. Remember, it is completely normal to have itchy skin when you are pregnant. This is because the growth of the baby makes the skin stretch, which makes it become dry and causes places like your breasts, belly, and thighs to itch.
9. Extreme Pain Above the Stomach
If you experience pain under the rib cage (above the stomach), especially with other issues like severe headaches, blurred vision, or nausea, then it is a sign of high blood pressure or preeclampsia. During your prenatal visits, your doctor will usually monitor your blood pressure, but if you feel like there is something wrong, then call your doctor right away.
10. Unusual Weight Gain and Swelling
Unusual and sudden weight gain is connected to a small possibility of preeclampsia. You might notice that this weight gain is accompanied by swelling on the hands and face. Although some swelling on hands and feet is normal during pregnancy, it is still better to monitor it.
If you are currently going through any of these common warning signs during pregnancy, call your doctor right away. If you do not feel right or are in doubt about these warning signs, it is best to consult your healthcare provider or doctor. This way, you will not have to worry about anything, and your problems will be solved immediately.

Homemade Baby Bibs for Your Child
Baby bibs are very handy when you have messy little kids. Most bibs you find in a store are of poor quality. Here is how to make homemade baby bibs without taking a lot of time.
Why Do Infants Need Bibs?
Many parents have the question of why babies should wear bibs and at what point of age, but the answer depends on what stages of development the baby is. They could start using bibs in just a couple of weeks. Why do they need bibs?
Babies are quite messy even if they don’t start eating solid foods.
They also tend to drool excessively which might dampen their clothes really fast.
Bibs make it easier to take care of your baby’s clothes when they reach the age of spitting up, which is roughly around 0-3 months.
Spitting is reflux that happens when they drink the milk a little faster.
Bibs are very easy to wash too!
How to Make Baby Bibs at Home?
When you buy baby bibs from the store, it is always way too small. You can thus create your DIY baby bibs with patterns so that it is big enough for the baby and it will cover their bellies properly staying mess-free while they eat.
1. Choosing The Right Fabric
Making a bib can be fun because they are very easy and quick to make and it does not cost anything. You should first take 2 pieces of fabrics that measure 14 and 16 inches. They are inexpensive, or you could even use some fabric from any other leftover project.
For making a set of bibs, you could use organic cotton print for the front part of the bib. You will find a variety of organic cotton with many cute prints made using natural dyes, which are low-impact.
You could use PUL (polyurethane laminate) for backing. This is the same material used in the production of cloth diaper covers. You can use PUL for extra protection for the clothing of the baby but note that PUL is not always needed.
For the backing, you could also use terry cloth fabric, but this is not advisable as it does not offer the same protection as PUL. In case you are planning for an entire cotton option, then this is your best choice. For this, you could take an old towel.
For the back layer, you could simply use cotton muslin. This material is very inexpensive and is always available. You might also be able to find the organic version of this material.
2. Making a Baby Bib Pattern
All around the web you will find a wide variety of baby bib patterns. If you are planning to use a bib you already have with you then all the way around the bib you will need to add an extra ½ inches for the seam allowance when you create your pattern in proper order.
Take a piece of butcher paper or a newspaper and then lay the bib on them. The snap or the Velcro should be undone so that the bib is flat on the paper. Starting from ½ inches from the edge, trace around the entire bib on the paper. You could work your way around using a small sewing gauge ruler. After you are done, cut along the lines you drew. Now, this piece you made is to be used as your pattern.
For the pattern, if you cannot access the bib, then you could always use a free printable one from the internet. You could also draw your own design if you are very crafty.
You should also decide whether you are going to use a snap press or a hook and loop to fasten the bib. This can be based on what you have access to and is just a matter of choice. You could also choose Velcro.
3. Supplies You Will Need
Fabric
Matching thread
Pins
A sewing machine
Velcro or snaps (or any other option you have on mind)
Baby bib pattern
4. Sewing Baby Bibs Instructions
Preparing to Sew:
The fabric you are going to use must be pre-washed.
Place your pattern down face-up and keep it on the right side of a single thickness of the front fabric you use. If you had decided on fabric with designs, then ensure that you keep it the correct way concerning your pattern.
Cut around the pattern after pinning it to your fabric.
Pin it, the wrong side up, after flipping the pattern over. This should be done to your backing fabric to a single thickness of the right side. You should then cut around the material.
The two bib pieces should be pinned together right sides.
Sewing Instructions:
Though the pattern has a seam allowance of ½ inches, you could stitch the full allowance which is ½ inch through the inside curve of the neck. You do this so that the neck opening is spacious around the neck of the baby. Outside the bib and around the top sew the ¼ inch allowance.
Along the bottom edge, please leave an opening of about 3 inches wide. Sew all the way around the cube starting from one of the bottom corners and stop 3 inches before you reach the starting point of the bib.
Along the inside curve of the neck, clip the seams and cut the notches anywhere else the bib curves outward. You do this so that the bib will be allowed to lay flat when it is flipped right side out.
Turn the bib through the 3 inches opening so that it turns right side out.
Focusing on the edges of the bib, press it down so that the seam is placed flat.
You should also make sure that you press the 3 inches opening under so that the bib is even with the seams on both the sides.
Starting from the top edge, stitch 1/8 inches all the way around.
If you had decided to use snap-press, then add the snaps at the end of the wings that meet at the back of your baby’s neck.
Or if you had decided to use a hook and loop, then you will need to decide on the width which should be of the right size for the pattern of the bib. About 1 inch long cut a piece and sew each of these sides to the ends of the wings which meet at the back of the baby’s neck.
Making your baby bibs is a really simple and fun project you could do by reusing old material!
As you can see, baby bibs are very important and easy to make. But do not forget to remove the bib when your baby falls asleep. This can be dangerous, and you need to be careful especially when they sleep soon after they eat. It is best to remove it after feeding them.
