8 Tips for a Rash-Free Period
While your monthly cycle can leave you bloated, in pain, and with scary mood swings, a slip in the hygiene department can take this discomfort to another level. Dealing with rashes and boils at this tender time is pure mayhem. Learn how to have a rash-free period and stay happy.
If stomach cramps and oscillating mood swings weren't enough, having to deal with rashes during periods can be plain nauseating. Period rashes are agonizing, the trick to avoid the pain and discomfort is to practice proper hygiene. There are ways to have a rash-free period with some simple suggestions that'll go a long way in keeping you happy during those sensitive days.
How Can Pad Cause Rash during Periods?
The two major causes of vaginal itching or rashes around the thighs or groin area during periods are heat and dampness. Wearing sanitary pads for too long can make the vagina damp and continuous rubbing of a pad against your skin can lead to rashes, inflammation, and itchiness on your skin. If you are looking for a pad rash treatment, try home remedies.
8 Pad Rash Treatments and Home Remedies
Dealing with period rashes can be tough. Not being able to walk properly, not being able to sit is likely to piss you more during your periods. Although you cannot skip these menstrual cycles, you can prevent these rashes. Here is what you can do if you have pad rashes:
1. Don't stop changing
During periods, you should change your sanitary napkins as and when you can. While it might be considered as a given, some women tend to keep the first napkin on for the entire day. It could be because of anything from the unavailability of clean bathrooms to a low blood flow. Remember that pads should not be worn for more than four hours in any situation. No matter what the reason, ensure that you opt for a change at least twice a day. It will make you feel better, cleaner, and rash-free. Some people opt for cloth sanitary pads, although these are environment-friendly and comfortable, you should change them too.
2. Wear loose clothes
While nothing says sexy better than skinny jeans and jeggings, it may not be the best thing to wear when you have your periods. It is recommended to stick to loose and comfortable clothing, even if your Saturday night plans figure a pair of high-waist slim jeans. Wearing harem pants or a flowing maxi or midi skirt would really help you out during these dreaded days. A loose-fitting bottom wear will ensure proper airflow in and around the pubic area, which will keep you sweat-free. A build-up of sweat in the pubic area can cause rashes, so beware!
3. Keep yourself dry
Applying talcum powder to the vaginal area before you wear a sanitary napkin is a great way of preventing rashes during periods. Using powder prevents absorption of sweat by sanitary napkins. This way, the pad remains a lot cleaner and moisture-free. Applying powder also helps prevent friction between your skin and the pad, thereby preventing rashes and formation of boils. Make sure you do this each time you change the napkin.
4. Stay squeaky clean
During your periods, make sure to take ample precaution to keep your vaginal areas clean. In between household chores and running errands, remember to wash the area with water. Do this after every 4 hours. It is also recommended that you wash your vagina to prevent the formation of bacteria. This is one way of dealing with rash problems during periods.
5. Antiseptic intervention
To avoid itchy skin during periods, apply an antiseptic gel or cream around the pubic area. The cream or gel should be applied whenever you change your sanitary pad. However, ensure that the cream does not spread to other sensitive areas of your body. If your skin happens to react negatively to the gel or cream, stop applying it immediately. It is recommended that you consult a doctor before buying a particular gel or cream.
6. Warm compress
One of the effective home remedies you can try to reduce period rashes is “warm compress”. A warm compress can soothe those ugly and itchy period rashes. Apply a warm compress on your vagina. Take a clean cloth, soak it in warm water, squeeze out the excess water, and then place it on your vagina. Warm compresses not only reduce the rashes but provide relief from the pain too.
7. Ice Packs
Ice packs or cold compress work well for treating period rashes. Place an ice pack on the vagina, it will soon soothe the itching and alleviate the pain. If you don’t have an ice pack, you can wrap some ice cubes in a clean cloth and place it on your vagina. This will work too!
8. Avoid hygienic products during periods
When you have your menstrual cycle, maintaining cleanliness is a must. You should clean your vagina with warm water, but don’t use any sprays, soaps, or other chemical based products to wash your vagina as it can irritate the sensitive skin around your vagina and even worsen the rashes.
These tips to prevent rashes during menstruation will help you stay fresh and hygienic throughout the day. Ensure that you make the effort to stay clean by washing thoroughly and changing your napkin frequently. Hassle-free periods wouldn't just calm your mood swings, but also keep you happy. Read more

PlayDoh Helps to Prepare My Kid for School

Being an educator myself, I try and choose open-ended play materials for Gunbir, that are fun, versatile and facilitate learning. Both G and I love experimenting with Play-Doh. I wouldn’t be exaggerating if I said it’s rather necessary to expose kids to Play-Doh at a young age. He does not only explore his creativity with Play-Doh but the activities also help strengthen his tiny muscles as he rolls, flattens, pounds, chops, pokes, pinches, and cuts Play-Doh. Play-Doh has a variety of kits to choose from. We tried their Number and Counting variant from the Shape and Learn range. It allows us to learn numerals, counting and concepts like less and more, even and odd and more while we play. Play-Doh is so soft and safe in terms of materials that it is made of. It is a foolproof way of keeping my boy engaged and entertained while he learns.

Pelvic Tilt Exercises during Pregnancy - Benefits and Precautions
Any great event will need some kind of practice and training, and childbirth is quite similar to it. Just as an athlete trains her body before her event, so does a mother need to get her body in shape if she wants to have an easier time during labour. By doing the right kind of prenatal exercises, you will widen your pelvis and get your baby in the optimal position for childbirth.
What is Pelvic Tilt Exercise?
Exercises that are made up of very delicate movements of the spine that will support and strengthen the muscles around your lower back, especially the abdominal muscles, are known as pelvic tilt exercises. Not only do they relieve lower back pain, but they also give it a gentle massage in the process. They can be done while standing with your back against the wall, on your hands and knees, as well as while sitting on an exercise ball.
Various Types of Pelvic Tilt Exercises
There are many types of pelvic exercises that you can try. Either stick to a few that you are comfortable with, or you can mix them up on a daily basis to keep things fresh.
1. Sitting
While sitting may not seem like it’s an exercise at all, when you have to carry the extra weight of your baby about with you, learning to sit correctly can actually strengthen your core and stabilise your muscles.
How To Do
Use an exercise ball that is high enough that your hips are higher than your knees and firm enough to hold your weight.
Sit straight and upright and keep your pelvis tilted forward.
2. Leaning
Pregnant women lean back a lot because of the weight that they need to carry around all the time, so this kind of activity helps them balance it out.
How To Do
Lean on counters, people and tables to counteract all the backward leaning.
Use your exercise ball and cover it with your arms and upper body and roll around.
Your pelvis that is in midair will move in a way that strengthens it for birth.
3. Hands And Knees
This simple exercise is commonly known as the cat-cow pose. It keeps the lower back loose and relieves the pain in the lower back.
How To Do
Get on your hands and knees, wrists parallel to your shoulders and knees directly below your hips
Inhale and arch your back, belly moving down, neck and tailbone moving up
Exhale and move your pelvis inward, arch your back up and keep your head down, as if you are trying to see your navel
Repeat at least 10 times.
4. Standing
This exercise will require you to lean against a wall and doing it daily will strengthen your pelvic muscles.
How To Do
Touch your bottom, shoulders and head to a wall
Press the small gap of your back towards the wall while breathing in deeply
Exhale and slowly relax
Repeat the exercise at least ten times
5. Lying Down
This exercise will strengthen your pelvic floor muscles.
How To Do
Lay on your back, feet on the floor and knees bent
Move your pelvis forward and press the small gap of your back into the floor
Relax your muscles and rest for a few seconds.
Repeat this as many times as you are comfortable.
Benefits of Doing Pelvic Tilt Exercise in Pregnancy
Exercise has many benefits, and during pregnancy, there is no exception. If you are looking for a nudge to start exercising, the benefits of doing pelvic tilt exercises during pregnancy are as follows:
It will help to prevent or treat gestational diabetes
Helps in improving your mood
Aids in toning the muscles, in improving strength and endurance
Improves stamina and energy
Helps to improve your posture
Aids in improving your sleep
Constipation, bloating, swelling and backaches
Helps to improve your ability to cope with labour and some women even use pelvic tilts to induce labour.
Will help your body get back in shape faster after delivery
Who Should Perform the Pelvic Tilt Exercises?
Pregnant women should all try to get into the habit of doing some pelvic exercises throughout their pregnancy as they are very beneficial to them. Those women who suffer from pelvic girdle pain, AKA Symphysis Pubic Dysfunction especially should do these exercises as they will help to relieve the tension they have in the pelvic area and will strengthen the muscles therein. Converse with your doctor before starting any new exercises if you have been diagnosed with this particular condition.
Women who are in their third trimester are often encouraged to do pelvic exercises during times of fetal activity as they encourage the baby to move into the correct position for birth as the exercises widen and open up the pelvis. When you do the exercises on your hands and knees, your abdomen gets turned into a hammock, enabling your baby to get into the anterior position, ensuring an easier birth.
When Should You Do Pelvic Tilt Exercises?
If you have had a long and tiring day and wished to find some relief for your aching back, pelvic tilts are a great way to go. They can also be done when you are looking to aid maternal positioning, which is believed to be able to affect the position of the fetus during your pregnancy as well as during delivery.
If your baby still has not dropped by 38 weeks, pelvic tilts will help you to support the movement of your baby into the correct birthing position. If you start pelvic tilts at the start of the eighth month, you will find it most beneficial for both you and your baby.
Pelvic tilt exercises are even helpful during labour and women who wish to ease the pain in their backs due to contractions can always ask their caregiver to remind them to get into the cat pose.
So beneficial are pelvic tilt exercises that they are great to do when trying to conceive, throughout your pregnancy, during labour and even after, while you are recovering.
When You Should Avoid Pelvic Tilt Exercises?
Pelvic tilts are versatile, and there are usually not many reasons to avoid doing them unless you have complications with your pregnancy and your doctor tells you it is best to avoid any kind of exercise.
Things to Consider Before and After Doing the Pelvic Tilt Exercises
Here are some things to keep in mind before and after doing your pelvic tilt exercises:
Before
If you are going to do pelvic tilts, ensure you have your doctors consent
If your wrists and knees are swollen, use pillows to support your knees or abstain from doing the exercises that require you to be on your hands and knees.
If you want the exercises to be most effective and you are a new mom, you should have your pelvic joints, and abdominal muscles worked on.
This is also important for mothers who have had to have a medical intervention because of the position of the baby, those who have had long labours as well as those who start exercising late in their pregnancy.
After
Some women like to end with the downward pose.
If you feel dizzy during any of the exercises, stop immediately
It is always best to start the right pelvic exercises as soon as you know you are pregnant, but even if you have not, it is never too late to start. Consult your doctor on what exercises are best and get started.

Pregnancy Travel Insurance - What It Covers and How It Helps You
Is your baby due in 3 or 4 months from now? Then it’s time to plan a vacation! Post-delivery, probably the only holiday you can take is when your baby is a toddler, which means months and years to wait! Many pregnant women usually plan one last vacation before their baby is born. It could be a getaway with the husband to Switzerland, a beach vacation to Goa or a relaxing visit to some hill station like Coorg. Whatever you decide, you have to plan before your 28th week of pregnancy passes as, beyond that, airlines may require a doctor’s authorisation and travel insurers will be reluctant to provide you insurance coverage.
What is Pregnancy Travel Insurance?
If you are pregnant and have travel plans, then getting travel insurance should be on the top of your list of to-do things. Travel insurance for pregnant ladies ensures that you and your unborn baby are protected against any eventualities during travel. As with any insurance, the level of cover and exclusions will differ from insurer to insurer. Be sure to read all the terms and conditions including the fine print carefully before you buy a policy. Different airlines have different guidelines for pregnant women
Air India lets pregnant women travel till 32 to 35 weeks based on a doctor’s ‘fit to fly’ certificate. Travel beyond that is only allowed under urgent circumstances permitted by the airline’s Chief Medical Officer and also requires a doctor to accompany the flyer.
Jet Airways allows healthy pregnant women to travel till 32 weeks. Beyond that, they require a certificate of fitness from a doctor. After 36 weeks, along with the above, they will also need clearance from the airline itself and an accompanying doctor with you on your flight.
Spice Jet lets pregnant mothers fly after 35 weeks, but they need to have medical clearance if they are between 28-35 weeks of pregnancy.
Indigo allows healthy pregnant women to travel till 32 weeks as long as they have no complication. But you will need a fit to fly certificate from your doctor along with documentation confirming how many weeks of pregnancy you are along.
Other international airlines have similar rules. Many airlines will also ask you to fill out an indemnity bond before your flight. But always check with your travel company and airline website before you travel.
How Does It Protect Pregnant Women?
Does travel insurance cover pregnancy complications? The answer is yes. Below are a few features and benefits of a pregnancy travel insurance
Travel insurance usually can cover losses resulting from unforeseen pregnancy complications. This means that you may get reimbursed for any nonrefundable trip costs you end up losing if you cancel your trip last minute due to any pregnancy complications.
The amount of travel insurance you can avail again depends on the insurer, and the illness, complication or medical condition you experience must be severe enough for any reasonable person to cancel their trip. A doctor also needs to urge you to cancel it.
If your policy also includes emergency medical benefits, your travel insurer may reimburse you for the cost of the emergency medical care you receive for your complication while on travel.
A significant item you need to include while submitting a claim for a trip cancellation/change related to your pregnancy complication is a doctor’s certificate.
Travel insurance does not cover the possibility that a complication can occur. For example, if you cancel your trip based on your doctor’s advice, with the only reason being that you had two previous premature deliveries, your travel insurance will not cover the cancellation as your pregnancy will still be a normal pregnancy.
Pregnancy travel insurance also covers standard things like lost luggage, flight cancellations and delays.
How Much Does it Cost?
The cost of pregnancy travel insurance varies with each insurance company you choose. But for many in India, you can expect to pay from 4 to 8 per cent of your total trip cost. This will depend on the country/countries you visit, the amount of travel insurance required and the duration of the trip.
What Documents Are Required for a Pregnancy Travel Insurance?
The following documents are required for you to avail a pregnancy travel insurance
Your travel dates and holiday destination
Your proof of identification, i.e. Passport, Driver’s License, or PAN Card
Proof of identification of anyone else travelling with you
A doctor’s certificate or documentation from your physician (if you are travelling post week 28 of your pregnancy).
A disclosure letter stating any pre-existing medical complication
Any optional extras you’d like to add to avail
