Effective Baby Teething Remedies
The medical term for teething is called ‘Odotiasis'. The teething process generally starts between the 6th to 24th months in babies. During this time, the teeth start to erupt from the gums. The first two teeth which erupt are located in the top and bottom of the centre. The rest of the teething process follows an outward pattern ending with the molars.
Teething Patterns -
Lower central incisors
Upper central incisors
Upper lateral incisors
Lower lateral incisors
Molars
Canines
Second molars
The lower and upper central and lateral incisors emerge in sets of 2 each and the molars, canines and second molars appear in sets of 4.
Why Does Teething Hurt a Baby?
The process of teething is painful and causes discomfort to the baby. This is because the tooth starts to move beneath the surface of the gum tissue which causes the area to become red, swollen and sensitive. Some teeth, like the molars, hurt more as they are more sensitive than others owing to a larger surface area
Signs and Symptoms of Teething in Babies
There are no particular signs or set of symptoms for teething. These symptoms could last for a few days or spread over few months if a lot of teeth start to erupt at the same time. This causes the gums to start hurting as they are still sensitive. Teething may cause the following symptoms -
1. Profuse Drooling
Teething stimulates drooling, which means that the baby's clothes are going to be constantly wet and soggy.
2. Coughing
Constant drooling can cause the baby to gag and cough. However, this is not a cause for concern if there are no other signs of cold and flu.
3. Teething Rash
The constant dripping may cause chapping, redness and rashes around the baby's mouth and chin.
4. Biting
Teething causes pressure from the emerging teeth which poke through the gums and cause discomfort to the baby.
5. Crying
The pain and discomfort are different for each baby. While some may breeze through comfortably, others suffer a lot due to the inflammation of the gum area.
6. Irritability
Babies become irritable and fussy during the teething process because the teeth will keep poking into the gum surface.
7. Refusal to Feed
A cranky, uncomfortable baby may be soothed by feeding, as they will have something in their mouth.
8. Waking in the Night
The teething discomfort may cause the baby’s sleep to be disrupted
9. Pulling the Ear and Rubbing the Cheek
Babies who are teething may tend to tug at their ear or rub their chin or cheek.
The severity of discomfort caused by teething varies from baby to baby and you can consult a doctor if you feel that it requires professional assistance.

How Long does Teething Last?
The process of teething varies for each baby. While in some babies, the first tooth may come through at 6 months, or as late as the first birthday of the baby. The entire process could take about 2 years.
Teething timelines (approximate) -
Central incisors: at the age of 6-12 months
Lateral incisors: at the age of 9-16 months
Canine teeth: at the age of 16-23 months
First molars: at the age of 13-19 months
Second molars: at the age of 22-24 months
Teething lasts about a week per tooth, it starts a few days before the first tooth erupts and lasts till a few days after the last tooth has erupted.
Teething is a difficult phase for both the baby and her caregivers, but it is also in important developmental stage. Being empathetic to the needs of the baby and accepting the phase as a transitory and necessary one goes a long way in soothing any anxiety you may be feeling. Read more

Hand Washing for Kids - Importance and Right Procedure
Kids are not born with a developed immune system. Their immune system is weak and is still developing, and hence, they are susceptible to numerous diseases and infections. And to combat this, hygiene is extremely important. One of the cornerstones of teaching your child to have a good sense of hygiene is to teach him why washing his hands is needed.
Importance of Handwashing
The importance of handwashing for children cannot be emphasized enough; a child’s hands are the most exposed part of his body and interact with more germs on an hourly basis than we breathe on a daily basis. These microscopic germs are the cause of some of the most dangerous diseases and illnesses that can occur in children. Therefore, it is important to establish lines of defence against these germs, and the first step towards that is teaching kids the importance of washing their hands, as well as the proper technique to do so, in order to clean their hands.
How Do Germs Spread?
Before learning about the proper technique for washing your children’s hands, it is important to understand the ways germs can spread. Here are the most common ways in which the dangerous germs spread to your child through touch.
Touching dirty surfaces is the most common way germs can spread to your child. And it's not just floors! Common surfaces such as computers, bathroom facilities, (even door handles!), and so on, which are shared by many individuals, can become breeding grounds for germs.
Playing in the dirt is another favourite activity of children that causes germs to spread. This is especially bad due to the amount of unhygienic components that the dirt kids play with is exposed to.
If your baby is still wearing diapers, he can run his hands on and inside his diapers, which are dirty and can be a source of germs entering his body.
Germs commonly spread when your child touches someone who is sick or is about to be sick.
Bad bacteria is all around your child, even in food. If your child touches bad food or water, this bacteria can contaminate him as well.
Exposure to germs and bacteria can happen through sweat. Your child can contract diseases by touching your sweat, or even his own sweat, that has been contaminated by airborne germs.
Which Infections Can Be Prevented by Washing Hands?
There are numerous types of infections that can be prevented by the simple act of washing your child’s hands. Some of these include the common cold, influenza, hepatitis A, meningitis, and bronchiolitis. It is important to remember that washing your child’s hands with soap kills numerous infectious bacteria and germs that could, if left unattended to, become dangerous.
When Should Kids Wash Their Hands?
Children need to wash their hands various times a day - this is especially required during, before and after certain activities. These activities include:
Before a meal.
After a meal.
After playing in the dirt.
After waking up.
Before going to bed.
After playing a sport.
After blowing their nose.
After going to the toilet.
Children need to wash their hands whenever they are exposed to germs. For more situations where children must wash their hands, talk to your doctor to know when they are in contact with harmful germs in common situations.
What is the Right Procedure for Handwashing?
The first thing to consider when teaching your child how to wash hands properly is looking at the proper procedure. Here are the most important hand washing steps for kids to follow:
When teaching kids to wash their hands, the first step they must know is to rinse their hands using room temperature water.
The second step is to teach them how to lather the soap. The procedure for lathering soap is to scrub soap around the palms, fingertips, under the nails, between the fingers, and the back of the palm.
Wash the soap off with room-temperature water.
Finally, they need to dry their hands with a clean towel.
How to Get Children to Wash their Hands
Children will not always want to wash their hands. They may feel that it is a restriction or a rule, and children always like to challenge their limitations. However, it is important to learn how to get them to wash their hands when they need to. Here are a few tips to help.
Make it a game: Making washing their hands a game can help kids be excited about their hygiene.
Sing while washing: Make the process of washing hands fun! An interactive song will motivate them to sing along while washing their hands, making it a fun and entertaining aspect of their day.
Reward them: By rewarding them for washing their hands, kids can become excited to do so. To do this, first set a benchmark of how many times they need to wash their hands, and the situation they need to do it in. At the end of the day, if successful, they get the reward.
Talk to them: Kids are smarter than we give them credit for - sit them down and explain to them the purpose of good hygiene. They are sure to understand why washing their hands is so important.
Teach them through videos: A lot of educational videos for kids have the ability to teach them to wash their hands. Show them a cartoon or video online that teaches them the lesson in a fun way.
Don'ts While Teaching Children About Handwashing
There are some points to consider when teaching a child any habit, especially about hygiene. Here are a few things to avoid when teaching kids to wash their hands.
Don’t scream at them for not washing their hands.
Don’t wash their hands for them.
Don’t let their tantrum take prominence.
Don’t lose your patience with them.
To better understand the do’s and don’ts of teaching your child any habit, talk to a child psychologist to see which techniques are good and which ones are not.
How to Wash a Baby's Hands?
When you are incorporating hand hygiene for children, consider their age. Washing a baby’s hand is very different from washing an older child’s hands; here are a few tips for the same.
Using a warm wet towel, clean your baby’s hand.
Lather baby soap on their hands gently.
Using another fresh, warm towel, clean the soap off.
Soak their hands in a bowl of lukewarm water.
Wipe with a dry cloth.
It is essential to remember that incorporating healthy hygiene habits like washing hands and brushing teeth should be done from an extremely young age, so that they become a part of your kids' lives automatically!

3 Steps to Heal a Frayed Mom-Daughter Relationship
Sometimes, even our most cherished relationships suffer from misunderstandings, misconceptions and distrust. If your bond with your daughter or mom has strained with time and you are wondering how to fix your relationship, don't worry. It really is true when they say mutual understanding and a little extra effort heals most wounds!
What do you do when your happy relationship with your mom or daughter turns sour? The relationship between moms and daughters is a special one but not insulated from the wrath of circumstances. If your bond has turned into a cold war, endeavour to rebuild the connection and make amends. Yes, it is totally possible to regain all you've lost!
Tips on How to Improve Mother-daughter Relationships
Before starting your quest, remember that you can’t do anything if you don’t talk. If it’s been a while since the two of you spoke, it’s time to initiate healing conversations. It’s only through speaking that you will be able to resolve conflicts.
1. Stay Calm
It’s easier said than done but staying calm and focused is half the battle won. Most times, we blow off steam when the other person doesn’t even see our perspective. When thinking about the ways to resolve a conflict, begin by putting yourself in a calm frame of mind. Practice deep breathing and yoga if you need to. Even if your sentiments are hurt and you want nothing better than to yell, keep cool and think before you speak. You don’t want to say something that will shatter your child or old girl!
2. Don’t Hesitate to Make Amends
Emotional disconnect between a mother and a daughter can cause distress not only among them, but also affect the whole family. Everyone feels the pressure and they need to tiptoe around you. To heal your mother-daughter relationship, accept that you too may have been at fault and own up to such instances. When she sees you doing that, she’s likely to do the same. Always be prepared to listen to each other even if you don’t quite agree on the other’s perspective. Lending her a non-judgemental ear will make repairing mother-daughter relationships much easier.
3. Don’t Pre- or Misjudge
A mandatory rule for mother-daughter conflict resolution is to never assume things on your own. Leave subjectivity behind and place yourself in the shoes of your mom or daughter to understand how you would have acted in her situation. Do you dislike your daughter's choice of friends? It could just be teenage rebellion. Or is your mom demanding you to do something you hate? Try and figure out why. Respect the individuality of the special woman in your life even if her way of doing things differs from yours. You never know - perhaps her way is also correct, only different!
How to fix a mother-daughter relationship is a question with many answers. But it can’t be done in a day. As long as underlying issues aren’t dealt with, you’ll have problems. Try to follow this mother-daughter relationship advice to redevelop your bond and give up control on issues that aren’t yours to control. It's only fair that you make extra effort for a relationship that's undoubtedly worth preserving. Read more

Breastfeeding: The Foundation for Your Baby's Nutrition
I was in the feeding room of the hospital we had gone to for Samar's routine check up. In walked a young mother with her baby and a relative(or a friend). She tried feeding her new born, but the baby refused to take the feed. He started crying and turned red. The woman said to her friend, "I think he is feeling hot, I don't think I should feed him here, let's just give him top feed". It broke my heart to see them walk out of the room.
In the new mommies group that I am a part of on social media, I hear top feed being promoted for random reasons. You want a good night's sleep? Give formula. Travelling with your baby? Formula. Baby not sleeping well? Crying too much? Formula. While it is absolutely fine to opt for formula when needed, the question is do you REALLY need it?
The first few weeks, post-partum, are the toughest. You have major hormonal imbalance, barely get some sleep, are sore from the delivery, and suddenly find yourself responsible for another being, who's unable to communicate. Rather, who's only way of communicating is crying. A lot of new moms have difficulty bonding with their babies right from the start. Yes, it's the truth. Don't expect yourself to fall in love with your child the minute you see him/her. But you will, eventually. Days will be tough and chances are, the nights will be tougher. The good news is that all of this will pass.
So mommies, take a deep breath and relax. Don't let others' opinions bother you too much. You need to focus on yourself and your baby. Samar was colicky, and used to cry and cry and cry. He would initially nurse for at least 30-45 mins at a go. It was exhausting, to say the least. My family kept asking me to start top feed, as they were sure my child was hungry. I was sure he wasn't.
How to Know Your Baby is Not Starving
8-10 wet nappies (pee count) in a day
Weight gain
Active baby
Newborns need love and security the most. So, please don't worry about spoiling your baby by holding them too much. Hold them, swaddle them, rock them, sing to them, and when you are exhausted, let someone else take over. Soon, you will know exactly why your baby is crying and how you can help.
Things to Know About Breastfeeding
1. The First Few Hours
The first few hours are the most crucial. Get your baby to latch, as soon as you can. Your body is ready to feed the baby and it needs to know your baby's appetite. The more the baby nurses, the better you lactate.
2. The Latch
This is the most important bit. The good thing is that your baby is a pro at it, already. You only need to guide him/her. Take help of your doctor, look up videos online, and let the elders in the family help you.
3. The Baby's Appetite
The baby doesn't really need milk in the first few days. Yes, you read that right. To put it simply, you will probably not have an overflowing milk supply on day one, two, or three, which is normal. You will however produce colostrum, which is enough to fill your baby up. So don't worry if you don't see you baby's mouth filled with milk. The supply will go up as the days pass. Let your baby nurse for however long it wants, and your body will adapt.
You will be glad you didn't give up when things settle down in a couple of weeks and you start feeling like yourself again. Your doctor will of course be able to help you with the required supplements. Check with friends and family, and find a doctor that will help you with lactation counselling. One my friends couldn't breastfeed her baby because there was no one to guide her in the hospital. No latch, therefore, no production.
Babies need exclusive breastfeeding till six months. Do not be in a hurry to start top feed. You can pump & store milk in case you are not around to feed. Breastfeeding not only gives your baby nutrition, but also provides him/her with better immunity and anti bodies needed to fight diseases. Before you know it, your baby will be ready to wean off and you will miss the exclusive bonding that you two enjoy. So don't give up.
You don't need to be home bound, just because you are breastfeeding. You can step out as soon as you feel like it. Today most of the malls are equipped with feeding rooms. There are also good feeding covers available, in case you need to feed on the go.
This post is not to judge mothers who are unable to provide breast milk to their babies for various reasons. It is only meant to help breastfeeding mothers looking for guidance, and to tell you that if you are able to lactate, then please do not give up breastfeeding your child.

Kids and a magical thing in thier hands..Mobile phones as a part of life.

Mobile have become an part of everyone's life. Whole world's news and facts are in finger swipes now. From adults ro babies the usage of this magical box is quite common. Parents feel so high in sharing thier near people that his or her child is master in swiping.
What encourages kids to use phones.
Its because of parents and surrounding people kids learn to use phones. Children learn from our actions. When we use lot of our time in phones kids develop keen intrest in looking what that phone has.
What happens when a kid uses phone
It create behavioural problem
It effects brain
Children avoid other physical activities which causes development problems
Interaction problems with society because phone become thier besties
May decline intrest in studies and learning new things
It causes children to me more specific... Seeing mobile will become thier hobby
How you can avoid
Children start exploring more and more as they grow. They go through every thing around them even a bit of paper seems interesting to them. Even a breeze and a dancing leaf too. In this process mobile phones are also included. So dont make this happen.
Play with your child as much as possible. Involve them in other activities give them playful objects. Avoid using phone in front of them.
Dont give your child phones for he or she cries a lot.
Even when he or she asks and cries for it take them out show other interesting things or things which they like most. This decreases thier intrest on it.
Dont give your child phones when they eat
If your child refuses to eat without phones leave them free for sometime. If they feel hungry at a specific time they naturally feel eating. If your child really playful and needs phone give him or her some instrumental things like a piano or a drum when they can play. As time goes they improve intrest in playing with them.
Dont give phones to your child when you have work and they need to be silent
Their is no important work than seeing your child. Few years after they develop maturity they gradually plan and decide their own. Till then you have to be beside them. So don't give phones to them instead involve them in your work. Give them a small task which they themselves can do.
Kids today have been developing intrest in phones. Phone show both negative and positives of world. Remember he or she should lead a good life and may your phones not steal thier future. May you not consult a doctor reagadring this issue saying my child uses phone a lot do help me. Be a child with your child and everything has a solution. Read more

A. Typically, your bump becomes noticeable during your second trimester. Between 16-20 weeks, your body will start showing your baby's growth. For some women, their bump may not be noticeable until the end of the second trimester and even into the third trimester. The second trimester starts in the fourth month.
