Fantasy vs. Reality In Your Toddler
A toddlers understanding of fantasy being different from reality has to be ingrained by parents at just the right age and stage. This makes sure they don't confuse their imagination with the reality around them.
Fantasy is a big, beautiful world. To tingle our children's imagination, we expose them to this wonderful world right from the beginning- telling them stories, talking about fairies and angels, showing them different cartoons and movies that are heavy on fantasy. At the time of growing up, the child believes that all that is being told to him is real until he nearly grows out of being a pre-schooler. It is your prerogative to expose your child to the difference between fantasy and reality. Let's learn how.
Teaching Toddlers About Reality vs. Fantasy
Understand the Child's Perception
Toddlers start understanding the difference between reality and imagination by the time they reach 3-4 years of age. Their understanding of reality is going through the routine of the day, say, going to a birthday party, the playground and the other exciting things he does in the day. For him, fantasy would be cartoon characters, story books and when he does pretend play. However, if your toddler is fond of watching Spiderman and if an artist lands up in the costume of Spiderman at a birthday party, this is sure to confuse him.
Fantasy Empowers Too
The option of completely keeping your child away from fantasy is neither possible nor feasible. In fact, in many situations, pretend play helps a child build his creativity and overcome certain fears like that of falling and getting hurt. Of course, there isn't any harm in keeping an eye on your child's idea of what is fantasy. Encourage him to see the reality of things for the sake of caution. Tell him a superhero can jump forty floors, but in the real world, it could cause unimaginable injuries. Therefore, fantasy is equally important for a child as much as reality.
Helping Toddlers to Differentiate Reality from Fantasy
This difference can be shown best while playing with him or watching a movie. You can introduce the concept of acting and tell him that the actors on the television are pretend playing. You can also show another movie of the same actor in a different role to drive home your point. This will be a fun exercise and will make the concept of what is imaginary and what is crystal clear.
Watch Out for Symptoms
Caution needs to be exercised when fantasy stretches too far and the toddlers understanding of reality becomes warped. Symptoms of this could be if the child stops interacting with friends, constantly lives in his make-believe world, and has conversations with imaginary characters all the time. At this time, you may need to seek professional help.
Parents need to be cautious as well as sensitive while teaching toddlers about reality and fantasy. Do share with us your methods of dealing with this. Read more

In Parenting, Is There a Clear Definition of How Much is Too Much?
It's not just a sentence, but these terms have become a feeling for a first-time mother, especially when she's taking care of the child all by herself!
How Much is Too Much Exactly?
Be it in terms of any of the following, how do you know what is best or the right approach to that challenge?
Being lenient or strict, or a blend of two
Breastfeeding the baby or trying to wean it off
Making them learn things through play or teaching the old-school way
Meal portions and a balanced diet
Trying to safeguard them from the ills & fears of the unknown (especially with the 'good touch, bad touch' and to always be around parents for safety)
Being a helicopter mom, because you are assured that your child is safe & enjoying the moment
Getting worked up by comparing the milestones achieved & yet to be accomplished by your kid
Feeling anxious about their food habits, appetite, balanced diet
Crying your heart out if the little one is in pain or suffering, yet standing tall in front of family
Changing all your routines to prioritize the lives of your children
I always say, there should be a balance of everything in life because after all, we are the role models for our children (for a good amount of time if not till eternity).
We should not stifle them, instead, we should lead such a life where we are able to create an atmosphere and nurture them with thoughts like these:
It's ok to let go (sometimes).
It's not our responsibility to correct every wrongdoing of others.
If you haven't aced something, maybe you need to practice it more. Practice makes a person perfect if the dreams are realistic and we need to teach this no matter how hard it is.
However, we need not show all our emotions of panic or angst when our child doesn't meet our expectations or cry ourselves when dropping them to school or college for the first time. Nor should we try to hide all our emotions, because sometimes they need warmth and at the same time they need strength too.
Parenting teaches us a lot, not just about ourselves but our spouse and the little being we brought to this world.
So, balance out everything, don't burden anyone with your expectations, but yes, make the people around you learn to differentiate between good and bad, reality and delusions. Don't stress out about some small unaccomplished victory of your child, because he might be acing things other children can't do yet (and you might have missed out on noticing it because you were too busy teaching him the ABC's because your neighbour's 2-year-old daughter knows all the alphabets).

My Motherhood Journey With Its Ups and Downs
Being a mother and giving birth to a baby is not an easy thing. I am here with my story. During my first pregnancy, even after the completion of 41 weeks, I did not get any pains. I was admitted to the hospital. My doctor is very close to my family. My mother is working as a Nursing Officer. The doctor had scanned me and said that everything is okay with respect to the fetal heartbeat, but we could wait for only one more day because the umbilical fluid was very less. At that time, my mother asked the doctor for induced pains. Then, the doctor injected me with a special type of gel for that. After two hours, the pains started. My mother was with me all the time. After the pains started, it took 16 hours for delivery of my first baby boy. At the time of severe pains, my mother did not leave me... she held me in her arms. Here, she taught me that a mother's touch can save us from any difficulty in the world. And my doctor was continuously talking to me about motherhood. I was completely surprised at seeing my baby. My family was very happy. Again, I continued my job very confidently.
After completing 1 year and 4 months, again I got pregnant. This time also, I did not get any pains. 41 weeks were completed but, no one was ready to wait for more days. Because at that time, one day, we got a natural disaster named Titli cyclone. No means of communication were available at that time. No electricity and no water. Luckily, we had already made a call to the doctor and he recommended to go to the nearest city where the cyclone was not that effective. My father tried hard to arrange a vehicle and finally got one taxi, but the owner said that fuel was very less. Thankfully, the vehicle started. On the way, all the petrol stations were severely damaged and nobody was ready to give fuel. At last, we reached the hospital by God's grace. This time also, the doctor injected the gel. But there were no pains. The baby's condition also was not that good. Then, they suggested I go for C- section delivery. I gave birth to my second child- a baby boy. 50days elapsed after the second delivery, but the bleeding was still not under control. I used medicine also but it to no avail. My doctor took a scan and diagnosed a very small clot. It is a very rare thing, he said. He suggested me for go for D & C. And at the time of D & C, some sedatives were given. But its very painful. My mother rubbed my arms with affection. That's why I was stable. Now I am alright.
I would also like to talk about weight gain. It's very important to gain weight during pregnancy- at least 10 to 15kgs. Every pregnant woman fears overweight after delivery. I was 52 kgs before my first pregnancy and after second delivery I am again back to my normal weight. It was possible with breastfeeding, proper exercise and yoga but not with dieting (i.e. eating less food or going without food). We should eat healthy food and a balanced diet. This is my personal story and I feel it will help to-be mothers, so I shared it.

ESPOSO - It's a fun blog I hope everyone enjoys it
Are you confused looking at my title? Any guesses about it? Oh well, let me make it more simple, my title relates to species found readily in every home. Some are egoistic some calm, some are neutral some harsh. Esposo is a Spanish word of husband, hubby, Patidev in more precise language.
A husband is a man found in every house, a species of it's kind. As animals are of various categories, this species also comes in variant colours and categories. Some are cute, some horrifying, some are calm others are atrocious. Every other husband is different from his fellow mates.
Let us discuss the variants of this species:
1)The Dominator: As the name suggests, this species is very dominating. You all have heard terminator, he is cute, dominators are the opposite. All the egoistic males come in this category. They don't let the other gender cuties to live peacefully. They have to dominate in every petty thing. I pity the angels caged with these ones. There is no treatment for them. They think to be right always but they are wrong. Don't argue with them, they can't take it when it comes to their ego. Leave them as they are.
2)Mamas boy: The species in this category are cute but dependent on mom. From childhood, they are raised by a dominating mom and so the result. They won't argue, not retaliate but in every decision of the couple will include his mom in every decision, for eg, What to cook in lunch? ask mom, What will you wear? ask mom, Want to go out honey, his reply, ask mom. I am in the mood to make out, ask mom.Arghhh.So you come to know this species though cute but can get on your nerves.
3)The interferer: In this type, the husband has to interfere in everything pertaining to you. There is always interference in each and every work you do, from your market shopping to buying your stuff, there is a hundred per cent of interference. This kind of species may lead you to kill him a thousand times in your mind.
4)THE NYMPHOMANIAC: The qualities of this species as the name suggests, is sex, sex and only sex on his mind.A porn addict in simple terms. From morning to evening to at last night he wants to be banged several times. I pity his wife rather poor girl, anyways a thorough counselling is required in such cases, so ladies beware. You can always say a No as said by Mr Amitabh Bachan sir in the movie Pink.
5)The procrastinator: This category species will always delay the work. Shopping is delayed, movie time is delayed, lovey-dovey moments is delayed etc etc.The only solution for the problem is a rolling pin (a handy device found in the kitchen to make Rotis), whenever there is a delay in your programme series just bang his head with one.
6) The lazy bones: This kind of species are also called as potato couch. They don't do their work on their own but need someone to do that, and poor wives become the sufferers. Even for a glass of water, they need help. There is no treatment for such species, they are not improving anyways.
7)The Nagging Kind: They constantly nag the other gender on petty things. Most of them are jealous of their soul mates. They don't leave any situation without lowering the self-esteem of his wife. The only treatment is to talk and solve it out. (But they hardly improve)
8) Mr Perfectionist: These species suffer from a psychological disorder to be perfect in everything and expects the same from the other person. The only solution is to leave them as they are, without complaining about your peace of mind.
Here, are some of the categories of husbands according to my research. If you come across any other type please do share with me.
This write up is just a fun gag, just for laughs and nothing else. No, I don't have any grudges on my husband or any male gender.
Hope you liked reading my research, do share which species you own at your home. Do support with love and encouragement, so that I can write more such stuff (next is a mother in laws I guess). Criticism is always welcomed with a smile Read more
