Ideal Sleeping Direction As Per Vastu
After a long tiring day, your bed is your best friend where you can just fall and get lulled to sleep for at least some hours. And if it is a holiday, at times you do not feel like getting out of it. Shutting down your system for some time is important as it impacts your body. What if you got to know that the direction you sleep in also matters? Vastu says so.
Why Is Good Sleep Important to Our Body?
When you are asleep, you put your body to rest and get yourself out of everything else. You do not care then about your surroundings. It is truly 'you-time', only your mind is in an unconscious state. Sleeping is like recharging your body and mind. Sleeplessness can lead to stress, anxiety, and poor performance in almost every sphere of life. The mind can get distracted and result in wrong decisions. It can also lead to cardiac troubles.
On average you should spend a third of your day sleeping just to make sure that your body gets enough time to heal back. A sound mind can increase proficiency and efficacy.
How Does Sleeping Direction Matter According to Vastu?
As per the teachings of Vastu, the sleeping direction is of the utmost importance. Vastu tells us in which direction we should sleep to live a happy and contented life. Vastu teaches us that we are always surrounded by energy which is either positive or negative. At the same time, the energy resides within all as well. Each and every moment, all living beings are receiving and radiating energy - even when they are asleep. Hence, the importance of direction as the energy field adheres to the magnetic field of the Earth.
1. Sleeping With Head Towards South
This is the right sleeping position according to Vastu, especially if you are in the northern hemisphere. The direction increases wealth, happiness, and ushers in prosperity. Also, the sleep in this position is of the best quality. South is associated with positive energy. Hence, if you sleep in this direction, changes are bound to happen and they would make you feel better about life.
2. Sleeping With Head Towards North
This is one direction you should avoid completely. Our heart is almost at the middle of our body and the veins that go up towards the brain are much finer and do not handle blood pressure well. If you sleep in that direction, then due to the Earth’s magnetic field, your blood starts flowing more towards your head. You wonder why? Your blood has iron in it. The Earth’s magnetic pull increases the blood flow towards the head without you being aware of it. If the flow increases, it could lead to haemorrhage. Most of us live with little amounts of it, but if it takes place on a massive scale the result could turn fatal. At the same time, these can cause your brain to slacken and increase the rate of the fall in your memory graph.
3. Sleeping With Head Towards East
The Eastern side is the source of energy and power as per Vastu. If you place your head while sleeping in this direction, then you would certainly feel better in the morning. It triggers solutions that can help you overcome health-related problems. The position is good for students as well, as it increases memory and concentration.
4. Sleeping With Head Towards West
This position is not as beneficial as East or South, but if you are looking for success, then as per Vastu, you should keep your head towards this direction while sleeping. At the same time, this direction can relieve you of any unwanted negative energies in your life.
Additional Vastu Tips for Sound Sleep
These tips can come in handy if you are looking for good sleep. These are based on the Vastu Shastra for bedroom sleeping direction.
Avoid sleeping under beams as they can affect your mental condition.
Don’t put your bed in alignment with any sharp corner to avoid harmful effects.
Avoid putting stuff under your bed to make use of good vibration.
Use blue, green, pink, or yellow as your bedroom colour.
Use dark colours for your bed and white for your pillows.
Don’t put your legs towards the bedroom door while sleeping. It can lead to bad dreams.
Don’t use a metal bed and keep your electronic gadgets far from your body.
Don’t make your bedroom right on the top of the kitchen. It can deter you from having good sleep.
These are simple tips that Vastu offers to give you a healthy and good night's sleep.

How to Sleep during Pregnancy in Third Trimester - Positions & Safety Tips
Nursing your newborn and sleepless nights go hand in hand - this one is a no-brainer. But the truth is, that your rendezvous with sleepless nights begins way before your baby is born, somewhere around the third semester to be precise. Your baby is growing, and with that, is your tummy. This means that your body is going to face some trouble.
During pregnancy, your body needs a lot of love and care, and most of all - good rest. Sleep is vital for you, and not just you, but your baby as well. And this is why you need to be aware of the importance of sleep, as well as the different sleeping positions and tips that come along with it.
Sleeping Problems That Women Face during Pregnancy
Pregnancy is not always smooth sailing, more so when it is your first time. As mentioned earlier, sleep is vital, so when you face any trouble with regard to sleep, it is bound to affect you negatively. A few sleeping problems that women face during pregnancy include the following:
One of the most common issues that women in the third-semester face, is the fact that their belly is growing bigger, which makes it uncomfortable to sleep.
Backache is a given. With the size of your stomach becoming more significant, the pressure on your back, especially your lower back, increases. This causes a backache - one of the most common complaints of pregnant women.
You tend to snore a lot during this stage.
Many women complain of the restless leg syndrome during pregnancy. Here, the legs (and sometimes other parts of your body) experiences uncomfortable sensations. This causes you to keep moving your legs or the affected part of your body. This, in turn, makes it difficult for you to fall asleep.
Heartburn is another common problem that affects your sleep cycle.
A lot of women experience vivid dreams and nightmares during pregnancy. This is another common factor that ruins sleep.
Sleeping Positions during Third Trimester of Pregnancy
The third trimester of pregnancy can be hard, considering that your baby is growing. Your sleeping posture must be taken into consideration during this time, to avoid discomfort.
Sleeping on your side, especially the left side, is one of the best sleeping positions, as this ensures proper blood flow to your baby, as well as oxygen and nutrients. Sleeping on the right side is good as well.
Sleeping on your back is not the best option, as it may impede the flow of blood to your uterus due to the growing weight of the baby. This obstructs the supply of nutrients and oxygen and can be potentially harmful.
At all costs, try to avoid sleeping on your stomach. This can be uncomfortable for you and harmful to the baby.
If you happen to be someone who sleeps on your stomach or back, try to cultivate the habit of sleeping on your side. This will work in your favour and for your baby as well. If you roll over to your back in your sleep, simply turn on your side as soon as you are aware of it. You could even place pillows around yourself to prevent turning in your sleep.
Sleeping Tips in the Third Trimester of Pregnancy
Getting good rest is vital, so here are a few tips that will come in handy, and ensure that you get some much-needed rest -
Most of us get into bed along with our phones, working on it till we fall asleep. Try to avoid this as much as possible. Your mind needs to be conditioned to realise that the bed is meant for sleeping. Getting your phone into bed and staying awake for hours is not going to help your case. Keep your phone aside as soon as you get ready to hit the sack.
Get some mild exercise. This will help relax your mind, improve blood flow and help in your overall sleep cycle.
You know what they say - have breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper. And there's a good reason for this. Make sure the last meal of the day is light.
Sleep on your sides, preferably on your left. You can wedge pillows between your legs to make yourself more comfortable. Make use of a pregnancy pillow
The kind of clothing you wear can help too. Wear clothes that are loose and comfortable. Also, make sure you wear fabrics that are skin friendly.
Drink a glass of warm milk or warm water before going to bed. It has a calming effect and can soothe your nerves.
Avoid foods that are too spicy. Too much spice can cause you to have heartburn, which in turn can hinder your sleep.
Since your baby is growing, your womb tends to press against the bladder. This will cause you to make a number of trips to the restroom. While it is important to hydrate yourself through the day, during the night, lower your water intake just a little bit. Also, empty your bladder before you go to sleep, so you will not have to wake up in the middle of the night to ease yourself.
Avoid coffee. We're all aware of the fact that coffee helps keep you awake, so the last thing that you need is a stimulant that refuses to entertain a good night's sleep.
Maintain a consistent sleep routine. Try to fall asleep at the same time, every night.
A nice warm water bath can help you sleep better too. It helps calm the nerves and loosen any tight muscles. You'll also feel cleaner and fresh.
Keep yourself inclined to positivity. You don't need negativity in your life, least of all during your pregnancy.
No alcohol. Your drinking habit should go out of the window once you know you're pregnant - the repercussions include your baby turning out to be an alcoholic. A lot of people turn to alcohol for sleep, but this isn't something that a pregnant woman should consider. It will only put you and your baby at risk.
Make sure the environment around you is free from noise. Too much noise can disturb you. The same goes for light as well. The room you sleep in must be well ventilated, free from excess noise and free from excess light.
Pregnancy can surely brew a storm of emotions, and the physical changes that you go through can scare you. But nothing changes the fact that you are strong, and all of it will be worth it when you see your little one. Use the above tips to get yourself some rest - you will need a lot of it. If you happen to be suffering from sleep disorders or have trouble falling asleep, then consult your doctor, as it could be a sign of an underlying issue.

Few things about postpartum which no one will tell you!
Delivery has happened, baby is out and you might think that's the end of distressful times of carrying around a baby in your belly, the mood swings, the cravings and the weight. But let me tell you the struggle has just begun. After all the trauma the body has undergone post delivery whether natural or a c-sec, you have to deal with breastfeeding, sleepless nights, recuperation and post- partem depression.
Before becoming a mother I was ignorant about few facts however with responsibility comes experience. This post might help to be mothers, father's and their closed ones.
1. Breast feeding is not as natural as it may sound. There can be problems with baby not latching or mothers not producing enough milk. I struggled for my baby to latch for initial two months. I was persistent and one day she latched like a pro. If you want to breastfeed your baby and things are not going the way you wanted immediately contact alactation consultant.
2. It's not easy for every mother to cope up with breastfeeding immediately after a delivery. With so much turmoil your body has gone through, breastfeeding is about round the clock feeding, extended hours of feeding and sleepless nights.
3. A mother who breastfeeds should be supported in every possible way. Someone needs to understand that her body is still recovering. A mother needs to be there for a child which means someone close (father, closed relatives) should take responsibility of the mother and the household chores. The mother needs to eat healthy to build and maintain her milk supply. Initially I thought I can manage all on my own. But this can lead to deterioration of your health, depression and extreme stress.
4. Giving formula is no crime. No mother should feel guilty and neither anyone should accuse or doubt her for giving formula. It's a mothers choice. She will do what is best for her child. No one knows the reason behind her starting formula and she should not be judged or be answerable to anyone.
5. Postpartum depression is real. I faced it for initial 2 months. There is a sudden dip in hormones and a mother feels sad all the time for no reason. That's where the father should understand and support her partner to snap out of it. Some mothers struggle and give up on everything including their baby.
6. I haven't been able to gather much courage to feed my baby in public as I didnt feel comfortable but feeding in public should not raise any eyebrows. That's baby's food. Like we eat in public, it should be as normal to feed in public.
I hope this article helps you and your loved ones to get ready mentally. Do your best but in doing best don't pressurise yourself physically, mentally and emotionally. Read more
