My Healthy Baby is Proof that Ayurvedic Baby Massages are the Way to Go
In today's day and age a lot of age old practices are written off. However, when it comes to baby massages, they still hold the same importance as they did for older generations.
Right from my grandma to the doctor to my mum, all of them are strong advocates of massaging the baby with an Ayurvedic massage oil, and now even I have joined the bandwagon! I’m here to tell you why I’ve chosen to go the Ayurvedic route.
It is established that the way we take care of our babies in early years impacts his or her development accordingly. Nourishing your newborn baby’s skin with highly effective oils is an important part of ensuring that his/her muscles and bones get strong and healthy.
Authentic Ayurvedic oils like Dabur Lal Tail maximize benefits as they are an amalgamation of natural herbs and oils. Here’s my take on using this oil on my baby so that you too can make an informed decision.
Ingredients and Quality:
It’s unique Ayurvedic formulation has myriad benefits and also keeps baby skin plump and healthy. Even though times are changing and a lot of lighter oils are now available, time tested methods and practices never really go out of fashion. Dabur Lal Tail’s unique ingredients allow for this to remain a brand that we all trust and know, for years now.Know the contents better :
The Til Tail or Sesame Oil aids in the proper absorption of the oil, It Makes skin soft and supple, it moisturizes the skin from within. It also nourishes bones and muscles.
Ratanjyot helps soothe and protect the skin. Shankhapushpi helps in providing a glowing skin which is nourished and healthy.
Camphor or Karpura content helps in improving the blood circulation. And the Urad content in this oil ensures that the baby’s muscles are properly nourished making them strong.
Hence Dabur Lal Tail is one of the best oils when it comes to massage oils for babies. Tried and tested, and recommended by generations!
Benefits of Dabur Lal Tail
What goes on the skin of the baby gets absorbed in the body too, hence it becomes vital that we choose the right products for our baby’s skin and overall growth. DaburLal Tail is one such product that is enriched with natural herbs and ensures the faster physical growth. It is dermatologically tested for safety
The chosen ingredients are known for their special roles in improving blood circulation, strengthening of bones & muscles and providing a naturally glowing skin while protecting it.
And take it from me, there is no irritation or rashes observed on the baby’s skin after using Dabur Lal Tail. My baby had a really healthy growth and a soft & supple skin.
It is a common misconception that oils with a light formulation are better for babies and they are gentle. Oils’s texture don’t suggest end benefits. Ingredients/ composition matter. Even light oils may have synthetic chemicals like mineral oil in it which are not good for baby’s skin. Thus, go by natural compositions that are toxin free, free from any artificial colour masking agent, paraben free and paraffin free. Dabur Lal Tail has one such composition that is free from any kind of toxin.
The efficacy of Dabur Lal Tail is incomparable; the brilliant crimson red color of the oil comes from the ingredient “ratanjyot” which helps to soothe and protect skin. This formulation is dermatologically tested for safety. In fact it helps make the baby's skin soft and protects the skin while strengthening bones and muscles aiding faster physical growth.
Effects on consistent usage:
Consistent massaging with Dabur Lal Tail helps in faster physical growth helping babies to achieve their milestones faster. It also promotes the nourishment and strengthening of bones and muscles. As if that wasn’t enough, your baby’s blood circulation also improves with regular massaging. The chosen ingredients in its composition are known for their unique benefits in nourishment of skin.

Prolactin Levels Test for Pregnancy - High, Low and Normal Range
Every hormone in our bodies has a specific purpose, and it is usually when these hormones go haywire that we find ourselves with problems. A woman experiences hormonal changes a lot throughout her life, and these changes are magnified during pregnancy. A hormone called prolactin is one that plays an important role in fertility and conception. If your prolactin levels are abnormal, you are most likely to have trouble conceiving.
What Is Prolactin?
Originating from the pituitary gland, prolactin is a hormone that helps in the production of breast milk. While both men and women have prolactin in their blood, why men have it is not yet clear. Prolactin in women plays an important role in fertility, menstruation and sex drive.
What Are the Normal Prolactin Levels to Get Pregnant?
For women who are not pregnant, the average prolactin levels should be between 2 and 29ng/ml (nanograms per millilitre). Women whose prolactin levels fall in this range have a better chance at conceiving.
Can You Get Pregnant With Low Prolactin Levels?
If your pituitary gland is not working properly, your prolactin levels will be low. This is known as hypopituitarism. However, this is not considered to be a problem as conceiving a child is possible even with low prolactin levels.
Can You Get Pregnant With High Prolactin Levels?
High prolactin levels (known as hyperprolactinemia) make it difficult to conceive. They are also a cause of infertility in some people. Hyperprolactinemia as a result of a successfully established pregnancy is normal. As a woman's body starts to produce more breast milk to feed her child, her prolactin levels may spike. However, having high levels of prolactin at any other time is not good.
Symptoms of High Prolactin Levels
You will be advised to have your prolactin levels checked if you have the following:
Producing breast milk when you are neither pregnant nor a new mother
Low sex drive
Impotency
Infertility
Lack of menstrual period or irregular menstrual cycle
Anovulation (i.e. absence of ovulation)
Weight gain
Vision problems
Headaches
Breast tenderness
Hot flashes or vaginal dryness
Causes of High Prolactin Levels
There are many things that can cause high levels of prolactin. Some of these are:
Medication that falls into the category of anti-convulsants, anti-hypertensive drugs and opiates.
Hypothyroidism
Anorexia (eating disorder)
Lack of sleep
Extreme stress
Strenuous exercise
Tumour in the pituitary gland
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
How Is High Prolactin Diagnosed?
A blood test can determine whether or not the above-mentioned symptoms are a result of high prolactin levels. If not, these symptoms can also be a result of prolactinoma (i.e. presence of a tumour).
The first thing your doctor is going to ask you with regards to infertility issues or irregularity in your menstrual cycle is if you are taking medication. Along with this, your thyroid function will be tested. In some cases, an MRI or CT scan can be used to diagnose the problem.
Medical Treatment for High Prolactin Levels
Medications such as bromocriptine (also known as Parlodel or Cycloset) are commonly prescribed to treat high prolactin levels as they help the brain to produce dopamine. They can also shrink the prolactinoma tumours if present. Cabergoline is a newer drug for prolactinoma that is meant to have fewer side effects. If you find yourself sensitive to the other drugs, this one may work best.
In other instances, radiotherapy may be suggested as a way to increase your prolactin levels or to treat prolactinoma.
How to Lower Prolactin Levels to Get Pregnant Naturally
While there are medicinal remedies to reduce the levels of prolactin in the body, there are pros and cons to this method. While some women find that medication works for them, it doesn't work for others. Further, once the woman stops the medication, her prolactin levels may go back to being high. This is why natural ways of treating prolactin levels are preferred. Here are a few of them:
1. Fertility Cleansing
Whether you have just made the decision of trying for a baby or you have been trying for years, fertility cleansing is the way to go. This removes all the toxins from your body that can cause problems with fertility. Fixing the symptoms will not solve the problem completely, but by detoxifying your body, you are taking a step in removing the root cause of the problem.
2. Vitamins and Supplements
Consuming vitamin and mineral supplements such as vitamin B6, vitamin E and SAM-e (s-adenosyl methionine) can be beneficial in reducing the prolactin levels in the body. Vitamin B6 is associated with metabolism and production of neurotransmitters like dopamine; vitamin E prevents the prolactin levels from rising, and SAM-e strengthens the joints, detoxifies the liver and boosts mood and brain functioning.
3. Herbal Teas
Drinking teas with ingredients such as white peony, peppermint, chaste berry, sage and others are very helpful as these ingredients have been used to treat disorders in women for hundreds of years as they all help in regulating a woman’s menstrual cycle.
4. Massage
Learn some massaging techniques that you could perform on yourself, or your partner can perform on you - these will better the health of your reproductive system by reducing stress hormones, removing any stagnant blood or scar tissue from the uterus, improving hormonal balance and blood circulation.
5. Lifestyle Changes
As always, your lifestyle plays a huge role in helping your body function well. Habits like smoking, consuming alcohol and not getting enough exercise lead to problems while trying to conceive due to the changes and imbalances they cause to your hormones. Including a healthy diet is vital as it will improve the health of all your organs, especially the liver. A healthy diet will also help keep all the hormones in check, including prolactin.
Many couples today have problems conceiving due to the levels of prolactin being high. The biggest contributing factor to this is the lack of exercise, stress, overwork and unhealthy eating. Even a slight drop in the prolactin levels can improve the chances of a couple conceiving a child.
If you notice that you have any of the symptoms mentioned here, it is worth visiting a doctor so you can get your prolactin levels checked immediately. Opting for natural treatment is a better option as it is a more permanent solution.

Birth of a Baby is Rebirth of a Mother
At the of 30, when I became pregnant for my first baby, I definitely had ego and thought I knew everything about pregnancy and baby care. But I learnt the reality in a hard manner. Due to unforeseen reasons I ended up in C-section. That was the first incident, my ego shattered. But I accepted it as it was necessary to save my baby who went into hypoglycemic coma soon after birth. No breastfeeding and only IV fluids, the next heartbreaking news. Many relatives were passing sarcastic comments and for the first time I remained silent, the only thing my mouth did was to pray for my baby. My prayers were answered.
Thanks to the almighty and few well wishers. Everyday I had doubts on parenting. " You have Inadequate breast milk because of elder age, gestational diabetes, C-section." When baby cries"you ate legumes. Your milk is not digestible for baby. Give kashayam" there were so many negative comments and suggestions around me,I felt like am unworthy of living with so many mistakes and I can never be a perfect mom. But God is great. I had huge support from my parents and spouse. I visited a lactation consultant and changed my feeding position, my baby started gaining weight, stopped all top up feeds.
My mom told me about parenting app and I chose first cry, that was actually my last cry with doubts and threatening suggestions. Whenever I get a doubt I see it in firstcry, so many mothers give their valuable experience and health experts give scientific explanation and better practical ways to tackle everything. I am a proud and confident mother now. Whatever suggestion others give, I don't mind, because she is mine. I may not be a perfect mother but I am my daughter's world and she is mine. Thank you firstcry and all parents.

Hacks to Turn Your Old Clothes Into Brand New Ones
Let’s face it, we all have those days when we finally decide to reorganise and clean our cupboards, and end up with a bunch of old clothes which we either donate or give as a generous gift to our maids. But we also have those times when we find ourselves saying things like “I have nothing to wear!” or “I need to buy more clothes, but it’s the end of the month, and I have no money left!” So we’ve decided to help you out and have come up with a solution for your whole ‘lack of clothing options’ situation. Most of us have worn-out t-shirts, a jacket with a hole in it or jeans with tattered bottoms and we love them, but we have to get rid of them. But they still have a lot of good material, and it just seems a shame to chuck them out. Well, now you don’t have to! With a little customisation and craftiness, old clothes can be revamped and can be made into some pretty eclectic clothing. So now, your next wardrobe cleaning spree will not only get your cupboard organised, but will also help you to get new clothes without burning a hole in your pocket!
8 Simple Hacks to Make New Clothes Out of Old Ones
Worn-out clothes? Don’t throw them away! Instead, learn how to upgrade your clothes and revamp your wardrobe. Sometimes, you just have to make do with what you have instead of buying more, and in some cases, that actually turns out to be a pretty great thing. Apply some of these cool DIY clothing ideas to your wardrobe. With the help of these hacks, you can turn your old clothes into new chic and stylish pieces.
1. A Small Slit Does Wonder
[caption id="attachment_214943" align="alignnone" width="564"] Source: Pinterest[/caption]
Have a loose kurta or t-shirt that looks too big on you and covers up your beautiful curves? Cut the t-shirt or kurta from the midsection in a vertical straight line and there you go! You have a brand new long shrug that you can pair with almost everything. Easy-peasy right?
2. Take the Indo-fusion Path
[caption id="attachment_214944" align="alignnone" width="375"] Source: Pinterest[/caption]
Wear your dull and boring A-line Kurtis or Anarkalis like flowy, ethnic maxi dresses. It is the ideal indo-western fusion. Ditch your churidars and palazzo pants with your suits and you have a new maxi dress ready to wear from your closet. You can try this hack out with long Kurtis without slits as well. Wear them with gladiators for a cooler look.
3. Crochet Your Denim Jacket
[caption id="attachment_214946" align="alignnone" width="236"] Source: Pinterest[/caption]
The next time you find a hole near the arms of your favourite denim jacket, don’t discard it. For this hack, you’ll not be needing the cuffs of your jacket so just cut them off and make sure you cut them out in an equal straight line. Get a sheet of beautiful, white crochet fabric from the market. Cut out two equal circles from the fabric and stitch them as arm cuffs to your jacket. Voila! You have a brand new denim jacket with beautiful crochet sleeves.
4. Boring T-shirt Goes Choker Style

Do you often come across a boring, old plain round neck t-shirt that you never wear because you find it to be dull? Well, we have a solution which will give your drab t-shirt a fantastic makeover. Cut out a ‘V’ just beneath the neckline and make sure you cut leaving the band of the round neck t-shirt so that it looks like a choker collar. Make two tiny slits on both the arm sleeves and tie them up into small, cute knots. There you go! You just transformed your boring round neck t-shirt into a cool choker top with knot detailing in the arms. Pretty fancy, huh!
5. Mend Your Jeans the Retro Way
Video Link: [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AY0rYz0bxXk&w=668&h=376]
Source: Youtube.com
We all have that pair of jeans which we have worn multiple times, and now they just look shabby because they have got frayed at the bottom. No problem! This hack will not only get rid of those frayed ends but will also revamp your jeans and make them look as if they’ve just come out of a ‘90s magazine. Cut out the ends of your jeans which are frayed and tattered. After you’ve gotten rid of the ends, make multiple 2-inch vertical cuts to give them a fringed look. Take a tweezer and distress the loose threads to give it an authentic fringed feel. Dip the ends of your jeans into bleach and keep them for about an hour. Leave them out to dry, and voila! Now you have a new pair of ombre jeans with acid-washed fringed ends. Major retro feels, right?
6. Onesie + Old Tshirt = New Dress
[caption id="attachment_214950" align="alignnone" width="320"] Source: Pinterest[/caption]
This hack is perfect for you if you have a baby in the house. We all know that babies grow at a rapid rate and we end up having so many of their outgrown clothes which we have to discard mercilessly. No, you don’t have to do that anymore! For this clothing hack, you’ll need your baby’s old onesie and a plain t-shirt of yours. Cut the lower half of the onesie, leaving the part which looks like a top. Then, cut away the upper half of your t-shirt so that it looks like a skirt. Stitch the upper half of the onesie and the lower half of the t-shirt and make sure the stitching is quite stable. You have a brand new pretty dress for your baby girl.
7. Husband’s Old Shirt Goes Girly
[caption id="attachment_214951" align="alignnone" width="625"] Source: Pinterest[/caption]
Discarding an old shirt of your husband’s? No! Not when it can be a brand new top for you! Cut out the sleeves from the shirt because this piece is going to be a sleeveless one. Cut out a deep, long ‘V’ at the back of the shirt. Get a sheet of crochet fabric from a craft store and cut out an identical ‘V’ from the crocheted cloth. Make sure the ‘V’ on the shirt and on the crocheted sheet are of the same measurement. Stitch the crochet ‘V’ onto the back of the shirt, and you’re done. You’re going to end up with a stylish sleeveless top with a sexy crochet back. Who knew your husband’s shirt could be of so much use to you!
8. Old Sweater into a Cowl Scarf
Video Link: [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WR_TX2Yxzmc&w=668&h=376]
Source: Youtube.com
Did you know that your old sweater can be made into a uber cool cowl scarf which will not only keep you snug and warm but will also help you achieve major accessory goals? Cut the torso of the sweater in a straight line from armpit to armpit and make sure you cut it equally and carefully. Make a few creases on the inner side and stitch them up so that it doesn’t cover up your entire top when you wear it, and also makes you feel snug at the same time. This way, the scarf will look more compact and can be worn as a great winter accessory.
We’re sure by now you know that there’s no such thing as waste – just bits and pieces of old clothing waiting to be transformed into something new, trendy and stylish. The next time you go on a cleaning spree, you can use these cool DIY clothing hacks to turn your old clothes into something fancy that you can wear every day.

7 Diabetes Symptoms you Should Watch Out For
Diabetes can be difficult to deal with. This is exactly why it's important to know the early signs of diabetes in women and get it under control. Watch out for symptoms so that you can take the right steps and prevent it from controlling your life!
It’s better to nip problems in the bud before they get out of hand. One such potential problem is diabetes, which is also known as a ‘silent disease’ due to its very mild initial signs. But with proper awareness and alertness, you can deal with diabetes and take charge of your life.
Recognising Symptoms of Diabetes in Women
1. You have unexplained weight loss and gain
You may think that you're losing weight because of a successful crash diet. But what if it's because of dipping glucose levels? If you have type 2 diabetes, your cells aren’t getting enough glucose. Your body is not able to use calories effectively even if you eat a healthy diet. Likewise, sudden weight gain can also be a warning bell.
2. You get morning sickness and vomiting
While this is a common pregnancy symptom, this is also an early type 1 diabetes symptom in women! If you're planning a pregnancy, you need to take special measures to prevent problems such as birth defects. Make an appointment with your gynaecologist and go for a thorough check-up.
3. You pee a bit too much
When your body is unable to make enough insulin, there’s an excess of glucose. The kidneys then react to flush out the glucose through frequent urination. If you have to visit the loo a tad too often, you should get yourself checked to rule out type 2 diabetes.
4. You feel thirstier
This is a type 2 diabetes symptom in women. Since your body is eliminating a lot of fluid, you’re left feeling thirstier. You’re also saddled with a dry mouth and dry skin owing to dehydration.
5.You feel hungry all the time
It’s not just thirst that you contend with. When you have type 2 diabetes, your body can't produce enough insulin to bring glucose to your cells. And when your body can't convert food into glucose, your cells resist insulin, resulting in you feeling hungry and tired.
6.You have blurry vision
When you have high sugar levels, the muscles of your eye lenses work hard to focus. The lenses themselves can also be adversely affected when diabetes is not managed. This is another early sign of diabetes and can be found in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
7.Your wounds heal slower than usual
The connection between women and diabetes extends to the vaginal area too. The build-up of glucose can lead to a multiplication of yeast and bacteria. You might find yourself developing vaginal infections even if you do your best to stay clean. You may also notice slower healing and increased foot problems like fungal infections, calluses and hammertoes.
Diabetes may be scary, but it doesn’t have to mean the end of life as you know it. By keeping a watch on your health and being alert toward your body, you can identify and control it at the outset. Read more
