Skin Care & Hygiene Essentials for Your Newborn
Your baby, when she comes out of your womb and takes her first breath, is covered in a whole bunch of things – there’s vernix, there’s poop (sometimes, not always), and there’s blood. Your nurse will give your baby her first bath after you deliver her. But thereafter, it’s going to be you.
Now, you want to keep your baby healthy, fresh and clean, but you also want to take care your don’t damage or aggravate her delicate skin in any way, right?
A good bath starts with choosing the right kind of products for your baby, and that does not just include the hygiene products, but also the linen! Here is your most comprehensive bathing and skin-care checklist for your newborn.
Your Newborn Bath and Skin Checklist: Bath Products
The first thing you need to take care of are the actual products with which you are going to bathe your baby. There are a few things you need to ensure when buying any bath product for your baby:
The product should be dermatologically tested.
It should be paediatrician approved.
The product should be hypoallergenic.
It should have a mild fragrance (strong fragrances can disturb babies).
It should be mild and gentle on your baby’s skin.
The product should not rob your baby’s skin of moisture.
Having established the buying criteria, here is a list of bath products you will need for your newborn baby:
1. Baby Oil
It is recommended you massage your baby before giving her a bath, so as to lock the moisture of her skin in. Massaging has a lot of other additional benefits too. Ask your paediatrician about how to massage your newborn.
SHOP BABY OIL
2. Baby Body Wash
Most parents do not feel comfortable giving their newborn a water bath, at least in the first couple of weeks. If you are one such parent, this product will be your substitute for water.
SHOP BABY BODY WASH
3. Baby Soap
For slightly older babies, you can move from baby body wash to baby soap.
SHOP BABY SOAP
4. Baby Shampoo
For slightly older babies, you can move from baby body wash to baby soap.
SHOP BABY SHAMPOO
5. Baby Wipes
There may be times when a complete bath is not necessary but you still want to ‘clean’ your baby. Baby wipes will come to the rescue at such times.
SHOP BABY WIPES
6. Baby Bathtub
A lot of parents feel comfortable bathing their babies in the wash-basin (after thoroughly cleaning it, of course), while other prefer a bucket. A baby bathtub, however, is best suited due to its size, design, and material.
SHOP BABY BATHTUB
Your Newborn Bath and Skin Checklist: Linen
Here are a couple of buying considerations to remember when picking up linen for your baby.
The fabric should be super soft (think: fluffy kittens)!
The fabric should not give off lint; lint is nothing but the accumulation of tiny textile fibres, especially on other clothes. The reason you need to keep this in mind is because these tiny fibres that cloth might tend to ‘shed’ may enter your baby’s eyes or skin-folds and harm her.
It is better to opt for white coloured linen; coloured fabrics are dyed, and if the colour runs, it can harm your baby’s skin.
Here are the things your newborn needs:
1. Hooded Towels
These will help your baby adjust to the change in environment as you step out of the warm and humid bathroom, into the cooler and dryer environment of your baby’s room. A hood will keep her ears covered, and also her head protected from the temperature drop.
SHOP HOODED TOWELS
2. Regular Towels
These would be better sutied for your baby on warmer days.
SHOP REGULAR TOWELS
3. Wash Cloths
You’d need these to be used with baby body wash.
SHOP WASH CLOTHES
4. Swaddle
Many parents prefer to dry their baby inside the bathroom and then swaddle and bring them out (so that they do not feel uncomfortable because of the sudden change in the environment. If you are one of them, you may want to add this to your list.
SHOP SWADDLE
Your Newborn Bath and Skin Checklist: Skin-care & Grooming
Picking the right bath products is important – but so is picking the right after-bath skin-care products! The buying considerations are the same: the product should be dermatologically tested, paediatrician approved, hypoallergenic, have a mild fragrance, be mild and gentle on your baby’s skin, and not rob your baby’s skin of moisture. You will also have to ‘groom’ your baby from time-to-time. Here are the things you need:
1. Baby Powder
This is not a must after every bath and should be used sparingly.
SHOP BABY POWDER
2. Baby Lotion
It will help lock the moisture back into your baby’s skin and keep it soft and supple.
SHOP BABY LOTION
3. Diaper-Rash Cream
The best time to put this is right after a bath (and for every diaper change of course), that’s why this product makes it to our list of things you need for your newborn’s bath and skin-care.
SHOP DIAPER-RASH CREAM
4. Baby Nail Clipper
To trim those tiny nails. While you may be put-off by the thought of having to do this, it is important because those nails could hurt not only people who come in contact with your princess, but your princess herself too!
SHOP BABY NAIL CLIPPER
5. Baby Hairbrush/Comb
You need to keep your baby’s hair tangle-free. Combing or brushing her hair also improves blood circulation in the brain and scalp.

Your Newborn Bath and Skin Checklist: Accessories
Some are water-babies and absolutely enjoy bath-time; others might want to wail their guts out! Either way, a few fun things can make bath-time an enjoyable experience.
1. Bath Toys
You can put them right in the tub with your baby, or you can hand them to your baby
SHOP BATH TOYS
2. Music
It is known that babies respond positively to music; so if you have a particularly fussy baby at hand who absolutely hates bath time, you can consider playing some music to help calm her down.
3. Thermometer
To measure the temperature of the bath water (although this is not a necessity).
SHOP THERMOMETER
It is understandable to feel panic when thinking of bathing your fragile, delicate little newborn baby! But worry not. Equipped with all these supplies, you are sure to become a bathing-pro in no time. Happy bath-time! Read more

Mango is the undoubted king of fruits. It is a delight to taste traditional and authentic Indian recipes made with delectable raw mangoes. The aroma and fragrance compel you to have more than just a spoonful of whatever heaven has been prepared using these green enchanters.
How to Tell If a Mango Is Raw or Ripe?
While a ripe mango is a beautiful hue of yellow, the raw version is a deep tint of green. Raw mangoes also give off a pungent smell while the sweet fruit has an aromatic fragrance. Ripe mangoes are juicy and softer as compared to the taut and firm raw mangoes. The taste differs too as the raw mango has a sour taste owing to the presence of succinic, citric, and maleic acid.

Karan Johar's Response to This Woman Saying His Twins 'Lack a Mother's Love' is Spot-on!
The concept of parenthood was never really limited to the ideal scenario of ‘dad, mom, and child’, although it has conventionally been so in India. Today, however, a large number of people are choosing to become parents through methods like IVF, adoption, or surrogacy. While these avenues aren’t completely free of stigma, it’s safe to say that people are opening up to such options when it comes to embracing parenthood.
However, not everyone is openly accepting of these ‘unconventional’ methods, as seen by a recent tweet by Twitter user, Chand Sultana Dora. She claimed that producer-director Karan Johar’s twins, Roohi and Yash, are being deprived of a mother’s love, probably seeing as how Karan is raising them as a single father. While the original tweet has been deleted, Karan’s response to the comment speaks volumes about his anger at this accusation! He replied:
‘Ma’m!! With all due respect! Get a life! There are larger issues the country is combatting at the moment and it can very well do without your narrow mindedness! My babies are being LOVED and that’s all that matters...and FYI they have a mother!! My mother! Get it! ???’
Source: https://twitter.com/dora_chand/status/1096126248894423040
In fact, his sincere (and quite frank!) tweet was met with a response from Chand, who seems to have repented her words. She wrote:
“Sir i truely believe that they r being loved & getting much more facilities from many children of this world.”
Source: https://twitter.com/dora_chand/status/1096126248894423040
While her original comment may have been hurtful and unwarranted, Chand’s second statement seems to display a change of mind about her earlier stance.
Many celebrities have welcomed their babies through surrogacy - there’s Sunny Leone, Shah Rukh Khan, Tusshar Kapoor, his sister Ekta Kapoor, who recently joined the parenting bandwagon, and so many others. Karan Johar is also part of that list - the producer-director became a father to twins Roohi and Yash in the month of February, in 2017.
He is a devoted parent (his Instagram bio reads - A father and then a filmmaker - aawww!) to his little ones, so it’s obvious why a statement about his children not being loved enough would elicit such a response from him. In a recent interview, he did mention that being a single parent can be daunting sometimes. He tries his best to make sure that they do not feel incomplete in any sense, since they don’t have the presence of their mother in their lives. However, Karan’s mother, Hiroo, is a big part of their family and they’re actually co-parenting the twins - in fact, his kids call her ‘mama’ and not ‘dadi’! Seems like things are as Karan expressed in his tweet - Roohi and Yash are very much receiving all the maternal affection they need!

Whether you’re a conventional family of two-parents-and-kids, or are single-handedly parenting your child (whether by choice or circumstance), or have chosen to welcome kids into your life through methods like IVF, adoption, or surrogacy, what truly matters is how you treat your child. If your little one is loved to the moon and back, by you and the different people in his or her life, then that’s all that truly matters! Read more

Beautiful Pregnancy journey and delivery of a covid positive mother
Hello mommies, I am varsha, I would like to share my horrible pregnancy journey which ended in the most happiest way. I am basically from banglore, I confirmed my pregnancy in November. Me and my husband were on cloud nine, we first heard our baby's heart beat with tears rolling on our cheeks and at 3rd month we first saw our baby's movement in NT scan. Me and my husband cannot express our happiness that day. Everything went as beautiful as my baby till 7th month. At the end of 7th month I came to my mother's home. There started our problem. I felt slight fever , cold and cough and my doctor asked me to take COVID test as I came from banglore and also because of not feeling well. I just simply took the test without any hesitation but the result made me and my family devasted. I was tested positive. At that time love and encouragement was the most needed for me. By god's grace my hubby parents and doctors supported me to their extent. eventhough I was strong and bold at outside, I know the days I was crying badly to my pillow. I didn't give up, I took it as a do or die situation and work as hard I can. I couldn't breathe, continuous cough , whole body pain everything around me tested my will power. After 14 days I was tested again and now it was negative. That is something I totally deserve. Again after two weeks my doctor said my baby is FGR baby(fetal growth restricted baby). This time also I didn't give up again I worked hard to correct my baby's growth. Again I achieved that. On July 27, evening 5:35pm I delivered my baby girl vaginally. Everyone around me including doctors appreciated me. I was the most proudest mother that day. My baby girl was totally healthy, now she is one month old. I used to say my baby that she has the most interesting bedtime story. Read more
