Chances of Pregnancy Before, During and After Periods
Pregnancy and the birth of a baby can evoke varying reactions in people, ranging from joy and anticipation to horror and fear. This is mostly dependent on the timing of the pregnancy - some women may be financially and personally comfortable enough to take on the responsibility of having a child, while some women might prefer to wait a while before embracing parenthood. Whether you’re looking to conceive (or prevent conception), timing is everything. Here, we discuss what the chances are of you getting pregnant any time before, during, or after your periods.
How Does Pregnancy (Conception) Occur?
A pregnancy occurs when a mobile sperm cell fertilizes an egg cell and the fertilised egg gets implanted in the uterus. To do this, the sperm cell must swim up from the vagina and into the fallopian tube via the cervix. After fertilisation, the egg cell travels from the ovary to the uterus via the fallopian tube. Here, it attaches itself to the lining of the uterus. Soon after, the remaining processes that are part of pregnancy follow suit.
Conception can happen at any time, from a few hours after intercourse to 5 days after sex. The fastest-swimming sperm may zero in on the egg in just about 45 minutes while slower swimmers may take up to 12 hours to navigate the same journey. Sperm cells can take a break for up to 5 days in the hospitable environment of the fallopian tube and still do their primary job of fertilizing the ovum. This happens if ovulation happens 5 days after sex. This means that if at any time in this window of opportunity an egg is released, the sperm has a chance of fertilizing it.
So, we can see that in the action of conception, there are various markers that have to be met:
There must be a mobile sperm cell.
There must be a viable egg.
They must meet at some time.
Conception is most probable if when the sperm reaches the uterus, it meets with a viable egg.
This is logically most probable if a woman has sex when there is a viable egg in the uterus.
The time when the uterus hosts a viable egg is called ovulation. This time window around ovulation is, thus, a time when conception is most possible.
Chances of Getting Pregnant Before Your Period
Can a woman get pregnant right before her period? For the sake of this question, let us assume that this refers to the week leading up to the period. In this scenario, we also need to assume that the woman in question is aware of her period cycle.
In that case, unless she is ovulating in that week, it is highly unlikely that sex that takes place during that week will lead to conception. Typically, a woman’s most fertile period to get pregnant is the period lasting from five days before her ovulation to ovulation itself. Unless this time matches with the week before her period, fertilization cannot happen. The rare case where this can happen is when a woman has a very short cycle of about 19-22 days, where it is possible that sex before periods can lead to a pregnancy.
If you are trying to get pregnant and are wondering, ’Can I get pregnant after ovulation but before my period?’, the answer is yes, you can. While the chances are low, it is certainly not impossible.
Chances of Getting Pregnant During Your Period
Is it possible for a woman to get pregnant during her periods? Well, this depends on the woman, the length of her period, its regularity and the time of her ovulation.
If you’re also wondering whether you can get pregnant while you’re menstruating and whether having sex during your period can lead to a pregnancy, the answer is yes if the following holds true for you:
Your period is regular.
It lasts for up to 5-7 days.
The time between your cycles is short (approximately 20-23 days).
You ovulate around the 10th to 12th day of your cycle.
In all these situations, the sperm that has entered your body during sex while having a period can fertilize an egg and you can get pregnant.
Tips on Having Sex During Your Period
Having sex during your period offers several benefits. For one, it acts as a natural painkiller (for some people) to get relief from cramps and headaches. It also eliminates the need for additional lubricant, and thanks to hormonal fluctuations, you may feel more turned on than usual during your period. While period sex can be a slightly more messy and uncomfortable experience than regular sex, the tips below can help make it a lot better!
First off, if you want to avoid the chances of getting pregnant at all, have your partner put on a latex condom. This also helps keeps any STIs at bay.
If you use tampons while on your period, make sure you take it out.
Cover your bed with dark and thick towels to catch leaking blood. This will help keep your sheets clean!
Keep wet washcloths or wipes right by your bedside so that you can use them when you’re done.
It’s important that you communicate openly to your partner about your needs and concerns. If you’re uncomfortable with anything, make sure you let your partner know. You can work things out and find out (creative) solutions to the problem that might just make period sex more fun!
Chances of Getting Pregnant After Your Period
You can get pregnant after your period ends; in fact, the fertile days last for up to 3-5 days after the end of your period. Regular sex on alternate days is recommended if you’re planning to conceive. This should be continued up until a few days after the halfway mark of the period. For example, if the halfway mark is 14, 6 days before and 4 days after are considered ideal.
Understanding Your Menstrual Cycle
Most women have a cycle that lasts for 28-32 days, while other women have cycles much shorter or longer than this average.
Understanding the ovulation period for pregnancy is important. It is measured near the halfway mark of the length of the period and is counted for a 28-day period. Normally, this is between day 10 and 15. During this period cycle, pregnancy is most likely to happen. Ovulation is the time when a woman will be most fertile and sex during ovulation increases the chances of conception. The chances of a pregnancy occurring during a woman’s menstrual cycle are higher during the 5 days that lead up to day 10 and continue from days 16 to 21. Ovulation can generally be gauged by a difference in vaginal secretions which resemble egg whites. Basal temperatures are also higher at this time.
Factors That Affect Your Chances of Getting Pregnant
What are the factors that affect your odds of getting pregnant? How can you make the odds turn in your favour or alternatively make sure that conception does not happen? Read on to find out.
1. Maternal Age
The chances of getting pregnant which are around 15-25% in your 20s go down in your 30s and become much lower in your 40s. So, if you really want a good shot at carrying a baby, start early.
2. Having Regular Periods
Menstrual periods which come at irregular intervals make it very difficult to predict the time of ovulation and thus, the right time to have sex for conception.
3. Too Much Sex or Too Little of it
The frequency of having sex is obviously important but strangely enough, sex every day may be less effective than on alternate days. It’s important to give men recovery time and make the act seem like less of a mechanical necessity or a chore.
4. Timing of Seeking Medical Attention
If a couple has been having regular sex for up to a year without being able to conceive, they should see a medical professional and rule out sexual health issues. Delaying a visit to the doctor can lead to problems later.
5. Ruling Out Other Medical Conditions
Any illness or medical condition which either partner is suffering from also affect conception.
Misconceptions About Pregnancy During Your Period
Many myths and misconceptions surround the act of conception and its relation to a period. Let us clarify some of them:
1. It Is Not Possible to Conceive Right After Your Period
The most common misconception is that sex just before or right after your period cannot result in conception. As we’ve covered earlier, it is all about the individual’s cycle and being able to predict the approximate time of ovulation.
2. Having Sex Every Day Is Better for Conception
The myth that more sex is equal to better chances of conception is not correct. While regular sex obviously grants people better odds of conceiving, as with everything in life, quality is better than quantity. One sperm cell is enough to ensure conception and each ejaculation contains thousands of sperm cells. Therefore, it is not the number of times that sex occurs, but the quality of the sperm that matters - their mobility and the health of their DNA is what affects conception. Even ejaculating once is enough to conceive if it is timed right during the woman’s ovulation period and if the individual sperm cells are healthy swimmers.
3. Previous STDs Do Not Impact the Chances of Conceiving
The damage to sexual organs from previous sexually transmitted diseases can seriously impact fertility. Untreated chlamydia and gonorrhoea can adversely affect the fertility of both men and women. Pelvic Inflammatory Disease or PID is a particularly serious condition and can permanently damage the uterus and the fallopian tubes.
4. Some Sexual Positions Are Better Than Others for Conceiving
Since it is very difficult to gather data on sexual positions and their relation to conception, it is a matter that is left to comfort and individual preference.
5. The Woman’s Orgasm Has No Effect on Conception
A woman’s orgasm during sex is, according to many experts, a very good thing. With the rhythmic contractions of the vaginal muscles, the uterus assists the sperm’s journey to the egg. It also increases the blood supply and hormone secretion in that area to increase the chances of a successful conception.
6. Fertility Does Not Depend on the Age of the Couple
The prime reproductive age of humans has been found to be the ages between the 20s and the 30s. There will be a slight fall in fertility levels after the age of 35 and a sharp fall after that. After this, that is, any time during the age of 40 and above, the chances of a healthy unassisted pregnancy without complications, such as a miscarriage and genetic abnormalities, are quite low. This is true for both men and women.
Signs of Successful Conception
The signs of successful conception are often missed. Since the signs of pregnancy vary so much when it comes to each individual pregnancy, some women might be confused as to whether they’re pregnant or not. While some women may identify the signs very easily, others may not, such as those who have irregular periods and are used to missing their periods. The most common signs of pregnancy are:
Missing your period
Morning sickness
Frequent urination
Tingling tender and swollen breasts
Darkening of the areola
Darkening of the line from the navel to the pubic region
Food cravings
Bluish and pinkish lines around the breasts
All these signs appear at varying times and in some cases, not at all. Hence, the pregnancy needs to be confirmed with pregnancy tests – either an OTC or a lab test, and a medical examination.
Common Mistakes to Avoid While Trying to Get Pregnant
While trying to get pregnant, these are some points one should take note of - they will improve your chances of conception.
1. Timing
Having sex at the wrong time is the first mistake people do. If they calculate the time of ovulation right and plan regular sex in the time leading up to and after ovulation, they will have better chances of succeeding.
2. Not Seeing the Doctor Early Enough
A couple who has been having regular sex every 2-3 days for a year and has had no luck conceiving should plan to see a doctor at the earliest. A test may be needed for both the partners for any sexual health as well as general health issues.
3. Seeing the Doctor Too Soon
It is normal to take up to a year to achieve a successful conception. Seeing the doctor within 6-8 months of having regular sex generally means that a couple is worrying too much about conception. This worry can, in turn, affect conception.
4. Unhealthy Habits
Drinking, smoking, doing drugs, excessive exercising, and overworking are all unhealthy habits that can impact your health, fertility and sexual health. They can impact the health of your sperm, egg, and lower your chances of conceiving.
5. Having Sex Every Day
Sex every day may lead to a decrease in sperm count and would seem like a chore rather than a pleasurable activity. Hence, indulging in intercourse every alternate day would be a better choice.
6. Not Checking for Issues With the Male Partner’s Sexual Health
Automatically assuming that the problem is with the woman is a mistake. 40% of fertility problems are because of the male partner. Testing both partners is integral for the correct identification of sexual health problems and eradicating them so that successful conception can occur.
7. Trying Very Late in Life
The difference in fertility goes down by almost 50% from your 20s to your 40s. If you really want a child, it is better to try while you have better chances for success.
When it comes to conception, timing is almost everything - but only almost! There are still several other factors that can affect your chances of being able to get pregnant. Make sure you take the necessary precautions and measures to achieve your objective and stay healthy.

15 Number Recognition Activities for Preschool Kids
As a parent or a pre-school teacher, one of the most important skills that you would want to impart to preschool kids is to make them understand numbers and how to count. Learning numbers for toddlers can be a fun activity using games rather than something that is taught by means of rote learning.
15 Number Counting Activities and Games for Kindergarten Children
Here are some fun and engaging number games for preschoolers that can be easily played and does a great work at making kids grasp numbers.
1. Connect the Dots
Connect the dots is one of the most fun and fastest ways of helping toddlers understand how numbers are sequenced. Connect the dots is an interesting puzzle where kids can connect dots which are numbered in ascending fashion (dot numbered 1 to 2, 2 to 3, and so on). Once completed, the dots create a picture which kids can colour later.
What you need:
You can get connect the dots puzzles in daily newspapers. There is also an option of downloading existing templates from the internet and getting them printed or you can make your own puzzle using some pen and paper.
How to do:
Mark the dots with the numbers marked over them sequentially, which forms an outline of a simple shape or a closed figure when completed. Ask the kid to connect the dots using a pencil starting sequentially from the dot numbered 1 and moving ahead to bigger numbers to complete the figure using lines to join the dots between two numbers.
2. Painting Using Numbers
In this fun and informative game, preschoolers are made to colour according to colour schemes that are coded with fixed numbers. Children are supposed to colour the picture according to the colouring code that they receive with the sketch. This game not only teaches the child to understand numbers but also to associate them with a specific colour.
What you need:
You can easily get online templates for colouring which can be directly printed out to use for this activity. You can also create your own sketches by creating a colour code using a sheet of paper, a black sketch pen, or a marker, and a box of colouring pens, pencils or crayons.
How to do:
Make your own sketch with colouring scheme made on top as to what number should be coloured with which colour. Add numbers accordingly to the sketch that you made. Ask the kid to paint the sketch according to the colours corresponding to the numbers in the figure. This activity not only helps the child with understanding numerals but also in relating to corresponding colours.
3. Abacus
An abacus is an educational toy that has been in use for thousands of years and was a predecessor to out modern-day calculator for counting things. It consists of movable beads on wires fixed to a stationary wooden or bamboo frame. An abacus can be used for learning higher arithmetic operations and it also strengthens the child’s counting skills.
What you need:
An abacus can be bought online or picked up at any educational or recreational toy store.
How to use it:
Ask the child to count the number of things in the house, like windows or chairs by recording it on the abacus. The child can do this by moving the number of beads on the abacus corresponding to the number of things being counted in the exercise. This strengthens a child's number recognition ability and improves his counting skills.
4. Number Treasure Hunt
Children love treasure hunts! This is one of those number games for children that satiates their inquisitive and adventurous spirit and helps them learn as well. Creating a treasure hunt with numbers, where the kids have to collect numbers by exploring different places ensures that the children recognize numbers and do it in an engaging and enjoyable way.
What you need:
You will need sheets of paper that can be cut into small cards, a pair of scissors, a double-sided tape, a pen or pencil, a marker and a place to carry out the treasure hunt.
How to do:
You can cut the sheets of paper into smaller cards, on which numbers need to be written down and stuck in different places at the location where the activity is being carried out. Ask the child to explore the place and find as many numbers as possible in the time allotted.
5.Tracing Numbers Using Terracotta
This activity focuses on using the clay to trace numbers on paper. This is educational as well as recreational for the children. They learn how to write numbers, apart from reading and recognizing numbers in a fun and easy way.
What you need:
A standard packet of play dough or clay, sheets of paper, and a pencil or pen.
How to do:
Trace the outline of the numbers on the sheets of paper. Now hand out the sheets of paper to the children along with instructions to fill the outlines with clay and recite the number that was traced along with the activity.
6. Counting Cars of Different Colours
A road-trip is incomplete without car games, be it I-spy or just singing songs. Make your road-trip with children fun and informative with counting game. The objective of the game is to count the number of cars of a specific colour that you pass by.
What you need:
All you need is time and will to play the game during the journey.
How to do:
You can do this activity by choosing an uncommon colour for cars, like green or sky blue, or red. Then you can tell the child to keep his eyes out on the road for counting the number of cars of the same colour you pass by. This activity will boost colour as well as number recognition in your child and prepare him well for preschool.
7. Maze of Numbers
Create a puzzle in the form of a maze of numbers. It will help children in understanding the sequence of progression of numbers effectively. While doing this activity, children can start from the point numbered as 1 and keep following the numbers in sequence to complete the maze.
What you need:
A place to create the maze, some sheets of paper and a marker.
How to do:
Mark the different checkpoints in the maze with numbers starting from 1. Ask the kid to start at point number 1 and move ahead in sequence to reach the end of the maze by sticking to the sequence. This helps the child understand the sequence of numbers and effectively comprehend and apply it in a real-life situation.
8. Counting Using Styrofoam Cups
This activity can be carried out using multiple styrofoam cups wherein the kids can be asked to count and sort different varieties of products. This activity can improve a child’s counting as well as shape recognition and sorting skills.
What you need:
4 to 5 Styrofoam cups and different items like toffees, erasers, blocks and marbles in different quantities. You would also need a pen or a sketch pen to mark the cups as well.
How to do:
Mark the cups starting from 1 to 5. Arrange items in quantity as per to the numbers on the cups, for example, 1 toffee, 2 blocks, 3 erasers, 4 marbles and so on. Give the mixture to the child and ask them to sort the different items first. Then ask them to count the different items separately and drop them in the styrofoam cups with the numbers as per the quantity of the respective item. This is one of the most powerful counting activities for preschoolers as it teaches them to count and recognize the number corresponding to the counted quantity, apart from also teaching them effective sorting skills.
9. Counting Dice
Dice are very simple toys used in board games for children. A die has six faces, each with a different number of dots from 1 to 6. Dice can be used as powerful educational tools to teach kids how to count and recognize numbers effectively.
What you need:
You can carry out this activity with children using just a pair of dice.
How to do:
Roll a pair of dice on a table with kids and ask them to count the number of dots on both the dice separately and cumulatively to make the child adept at counting and adding numbers.
10. Matching Playing Cards
This is a fun exercise where you can ask kids to match the face value of one card with the face value of another card. This can help the child in relating and equating same numbers by counting as well as by understanding the way of writing the numerals.
What you need:
You can carry out this activity with a standard deck of playing cards.
How to do:
Ask the child to pick a card from the deck (make sure that it is a number card and not a face card). Next, you can ask her or him to find the cards equal in face value to the card selected by the child. You can repeat the same with other numerals.
11. Counting Flower Petals
This activity makes the kids go out into nature and enjoy its beauty in addition to teaching them how to count effectively in a fun manner.
What you need:
A flower with many petals.
How to do:
Take the children to a nice blossoming garden with multiple blooming flower beds. Ask them to collect a specific number of flowers. Once they collect the number of flowers allotted to them, ask them to count the total number of petals on the flowers they have collected.
12. Making Number Tower using Numeral Blocks
This exercise involves forming a tower of numerals using blocks with numbers on them in ascending order.
What you need:
You need a toy with blocks having numerals printed on them from 1 to 9.
How to do:
This exercise involves guiding the kids to build a tower made of blocks with numerals printed on each one of them. This helps the children to understand number sequencing and recognizing numerals through a classic method.
13. Chores List using Dominoes
This can be an interesting activity in kindergarten, wherein the children are asked to pick up a domino and asked to count the number of dots on it and list down chores equal to the number of dots selected for the day.
What you need:
A set of dominoes, a sheet of paper, and a pencil.
How to do:
Get a set of dominoes and ask the children to pick a domino. Next, ask them to count the number of dots on the selected domino. Once they successfully count the number of dots, ask them to list down the chores for the day on the sheet of paper, equal to the number of dots counted on the domino and complete them throughout the day. This activity imbibes basic planning skills in addition to counting skills in a preschooler’s mind.
14. Hopscotch
Hopscotch is a fun game which has squares which are numbered in ascending order and the kids playing it hop one-legged to the square on which they are supposed to land. This can be a fun way to make the kids understand numbers as well as promote outdoor activity.
What you need:
This exercise would require a space to make the hopscotch tiles and a chalk to mark the squares.
How to play:
Make the hopscotch tiles according to the usual standards with numbers marked in the ascending order on them. Call out a number and ask the kids to jump to reach the square with the number called out to them. In this way, the children learn to recognize numerals along with getting an enjoyable playing session.
15. Bowling with Numbered Plastic Bottles
This is an interesting and extremely fun activity with plastic bottles which are numbered from 1 to 10 arranged in the form of bowling pins. Kids can bowl the pins over with a softball and count the pins accordingly.
What you need:
10 empty plastic bottles, a softball, a permanent marker, a whiteboard marker, and a whiteboard.
How to do:
Mark the empty plastic bottles with numbers from 1 to 10 using the permanent marker. Arrange them in a formation similar to bowling pins. Ask the child to bowl with the softball on the marked plastic bottles. After bowling, ask the child to count and record the number of bottles that are up and the number of bottles that are down.
These were a few of the fun activities that can be carried out to creatively engage preschoolers and make them learn about numbers and reinforce number recognition in their impressionable minds.

Pyloric Stenosis (Forceful Vomiting) in Babies
Nearly all infants throw up when they are small, either in a small burp that’s a little wet, or a little vomit occasionally. But if your baby vomits frequently, and forcefully, that’s a clear sign of pyloric stenosis.
What is Pyloric Stenosis or 'Forceful Vomiting' in Infants?
Termed either as infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis, or congenital hypertrophic pyloric stenosis, it is unmistakable vomiting that emerges out in a gush, causing immense trouble for the baby. This usually happens when the pylorus passage connecting the stomach to the intestine cramps up and stops any food from proceeding further. In the absence of digestion, the stomach has no option but to push out the feeding via vomiting.
How Common is Forceful Vomiting in Infants?
Pyloric stenosis is a condition that’s generally observed a few weeks after birth. Hence, its presence in infants that are older than 24 weeks is a rarity. Amongst the younger ones, around one baby in every 500 babies seems to have pyloric stenosis.
Causes of Pyloric Stenosis in Infants
There doesn’t seem to be any certain reason behind the occurrence of pyloric stenosis in infants. It does have a hereditary trail, bringing a higher probability of its likelihood to occur in a baby, if the parent had a similar condition, too.
There’s also a connection of its occurrence with medication administered to the baby, either directly or indirectly. Babies who are given any antibiotics in the first couple of weeks right after birth, or given to mothers in later months of pregnancy and early months of breastfeeding, seem to have displayed this condition more often than not.
Pyloric Stenosis Symptoms
The signs and symptoms of the presence of pyloric stenosis can be clearly observed when the baby is approximately at the 3 week age mark. The most evident of them are:
Projectile vomiting - The baby vomits undigested food in a forceful gushing projectile manner. It’s usually a mixture of undigested milk and stomach acid, that’s thrown out at quite a distance. Right after vomiting, the baby won’t necessarily look ill and will very often be hungry right after vomiting and want for food.
Minor pooping – Since pyloric stenosis prevents food from reaching the intestine, the baby’s poop is made of small few lumps, barely present. This condition also results in constipation in the babies, leading to pooping with the presence of some mucus, too.
Weight loss – Given the growth stage they are at, the absence of food and digestion leads primarily to dehydration, and incapability of gaining mass. Babies with this condition are less active, have a sunken face, and wet their diapers less than usual.
Visible peristalsis – This is where the stomach’s attempt to purge itself of the undigested food is visible on the outside. Generally noticed after feeding, as the stomach contracts to make the baby vomit, ripple-like waves can be seen on the baby’s stomach.
Hungry after vomiting – Right after the intense vomiting, the baby doesn’t seem to be ill and almost starts sucking and giving all the signs of extreme hunger. They would gladly take in another round of feeding since their stomach is entirely empty.
Fussy and sluggish – The baby experiences discomfort, and is usually slightly tired and irritated throughout, wanting another round of food and exhausted from the vomiting.
How is the Diagnosis Done?
Doctors may immediately ask you to carry out certain tests if the baby is found to vomit multiple times forcefully. Primary diagnosis usually involves the doctor looking for thickened muscle or a small lump, by feeling your baby’s stomach.
Conclusive diagnosis is obtained by carrying out a pyloric stenosis ultrasound, one of the most common techniques. Body imaging of the infant’s abdomen is undertaken to spot the cramped tract. At times, Barium’s x-ray test can be conducted, too. A chalk coloured liquid is given to the baby, which helps the x-ray light up the area of the digestive tract.
A general lab test to check your baby’s blood and electrolyte levels may also be conducted to ensure its well-being. All these tests help rule out any other reasons for vomiting, bringing the diagnosis closer to pyloric stenosis.
Treatment
The only way to treat this condition is via a surgical procedure called pyloromyotomy. It helps expand the connecting tract, so that food may enter the intestine and be digested. This decision is taken after factoring in the results of the radiology reports.
Before Surgery
Prior to commencing with the surgical procedure, the baby might be given intravenous fluids to maintain a healthy electrolyte balance. Various blood tests might be conducted before moving ahead.
Pyloric Stenosis Procedure
The surgery is conducted either via laparoscopy, involving a few small incisions or via an open surgery, which would be discussed with you by the surgeons themselves, who are specialists in infant surgery.
General anaesthesia is administered and your baby goes to sleep, so that the surgery can be conducted without pain. The surgery involves making an incision in the body to see the pylorus muscle, and then making another cut on the muscle to spread the muscle. The inner lining of the passage is not touched and no tissue removal is involved.
The entire surgery lasts anywhere between 15 minutes to an hour. Post-surgery, the baby will still be inside the recovery room, until it wakes up from the anesthesia. Babies are known to vomit for a couple of days after surgery, since their body is getting used to it. Medication to dull the pain is administered along with intravenous fluids.
Once the baby seems ready to take food orally, a watered-down formula initiates the feeding. The formula is gradually made stronger to the normal amount, based on the progress of your baby’s response. On observing that the baby can feed and digest properly, either via breastfeeding of formulaic intake, the doctor will discharge the baby and you can return home.
Care After Surgery
For a few days, your baby will feed slowly and burp more than usual. This is normal and the general routine can be resumed after that.
The doctors will advise you on various ways to keep the surgical incision hygienic and dry until it heals completely. Apart from that, your baby can be its full self and carry out all its activities without worry. The hospital will check with you after a week or so, and inquire about the progress. In case of any concerns felt by you or the hospital, they might advise you to come for a check-up.
The surgery does not increase any risks of stomach infection or gastrointestinal problems at all. Most babies are usually fine after the surgery, and return back to normal eating habits.
Who Are Most At Risk?
On a gender distribution scale, forceful vomiting is observed at a higher frequency in males that are firstborn, and less common in people from the Asian subcontinent.
Premature birth and smoking during pregnancy have been termed to be possible causes, too.
Complications
Pyloric stenosis surgery risks are rare and range from a minimum to negligible, in the probability of their occurrence. As with every surgery, small bleeding may occur in the course of the process, or after it. The bowel lining might be accidentally cut in the rarest of the rare cases, which can also be immediately corrected during the procedure itself. Anaesthetics carry their own risks and they are always checked for by conducting several tests before the surgery.
Does It Have Long-Term Effects?
Nearly all surgeries have had zero side effects on the babies. The pylorus allows passage of food to the intestine, and babies grow up in the most normal successful way.
When to Call a Doctor
After returning home from the surgery, it is best to contact your doctor immediately if your baby shows signs of:
Continued pain, despite pain relief medication
Continued vomiting
High temperature and fever, despite using paracetamol
Inflammation or oozing in the area of surgery
Pyloric stenosis is a rare and frightful condition at first sight but can be effectively and permanently treated with surgery. It doesn’t cause any side effects on your infant, and your baby can grow up healthy and fine and function as a normal individual later in life, without any problems.

Importance of Weaning Your Baby at the Right Time
When a baby is born, he remains on her mother’s milk for the first few months of life. As he starts growing, his appetite also starts increasing and requires the introduction of solid foods step-by-step. This gradual transition from breast milk to solid food is known as weaning.
When babies start weaning, they are given different types of foods to develop the taste for new foods. When fed with a spoon or hand, babies also learn to coordinate their lips, jaws, and tongue. It is also a great socializing activity as family members enjoy taking turns in feeding a weaning baby.
Advantages of Weaning That You Must Know
Weaning is the most important transitional phase for a baby as he starts tasting and eating foods that add nutrients to his body. The need to wean babies generally starts from the age of 6 months and can go on till that of 12 months to 2 years depending on the baby's intake, and the type of weaning foods and portions. But since his stomach is still very delicate, he needs food which is easy on his digestive system. The foods that parents can start with once a day are cooked and mashed vegetables, soft fruits, and baby cereals mixed with breastmilk or formula.
The importance of weaning a baby at the right time cannot be stressed enough as it is the way to the all-round development.
1. Babies Start Becoming Self-Dependent
As babies grow, they start experimenting with food by trying to eat it themselves, which can be messy. But this promotes better hand-mouth coordination. Thus, it is important to encourage babies to eat on their own.
2. Personality Development
He starts developing his likes and dislikes towards food starting now. This, slowly but eventually, shapes his food choices. Since the baby is now included in mealtimes along with other family members, he gains more confidence and his personality improves.
3. No More Making Special Food
Babies learn to taste different foods apart from milk and food specially prepared for them. You can also include baby versions of your meal in his diet and introduce him to what you are eating. If you don't feel like preparing a different meal, you can always opt for a meal which is suited to your baby's delicate appetite.
4. Free Time for Mommy
There is a break from feeding duties, so now the mother can have some time for herself. No routine breastfeeding and breast pumping mean that she has more time to herself. This is the time to get the other parent also actively involved in the baby's feeding sessions.
5. Balanced Diet
New, nutrient-rich foods mean that your baby has now access to all the nutrients required for growth and development. With breastmilk no longer being the only source of nutrition, your baby's body can have its share of iron, protein, minerals, etc., from a varied set of food items.
6. Builds Important Developmental Skills
From learning how to coordinate his tongue, lips and jaw movement to chewing and swallowing, babies learn important motor and developmental skills during weaning. They also learn to control hand-eye and hand-mouth coordination as they pick up and eat food on their own.
The benefits of weaning far transcend just the nutritional needs of your baby. It sets the edifice of healthy eating habits, builds his food likings, develops social and motor skills, and gives you a break from being the only source of food for your little one.
A happy weaning to all new mothers and babies out there!

Motherhood...A Journey to Self-discovery...From a Mother’s Perspective
The title of being a "mother" surely feels like a badge of honour - something like a lifetime achievement award. We keep hearing terms like motherland, mother earth, mother nature, and above all, the mother Goddess encompassing everything from creation, protection and sustenance. Surely these terms hint us of the powers, prerogatives, privileges and responsibilities associated with the essence of being a "mother". From our childhood, we see our own mothers around as loving, caring, emotional yet strong beings who are at work all the time.
Well, the time arrives when as a woman one herself experiences this process and the journey to realisation commences. Yes it's a process, a journey, that starts way before having our baby in our arms; it starts from the moment one conceived. Yes! right from the moment of conception the magic of creation, power of mother nature strikes and the realisation hits - "I am not alone now." Someone special, yes, a part of my own flesh and blood is within me, growing at its pace, totally dependent on me. A feeling crosses our minds - from now on, I am never alone; two lives in one, I am carrying a life within me...God, magic, now I truly believe in this magic of creation; the power to generate.
And thus, the journey begins.
Hormonal turbulence hits our existence, and we experience emotional outbursts, health challenges, restrictive movements - and all this goes to show that it is going to be like participating in a hurdle race. But all this subsides when gynae check-ups make us hear the heartbeat of the little one inside us, and it thrills us again, revitalising each and every nerve within.
The ensuing months bring us to notice movements and then kicks of our bundle of joy, and we wait patiently for when we can hold our baby in our arms, see and feel and enjoy the bliss. It is the moment of joy and wonder. How my baby would look like, how it would feel when I take her in my arms, and lo! labour pains declare the moment is close by.
The wait is over, but not without another tough experience of labour pains and the decision of having a C-section, or the so called 'normal delivery'. Both have their own repercussions, and most of the times, the gynae or the doctor has the final word, and we follow. The pain indeed is immense and immense is the pleasure of having a baby, a baby of our own, a part of us that was thriving within us , is out now to bestow upon us a title, a title of being a "mother". Holding our baby - the newborn - we are filled with mixed emotions of happiness, excitement, pain and anxiety as to taking care of such a tiny being; a part of our own self.
Blessings and wishes flood in, and together with it all comes - a lot of suggestions and advice, dos and don'ts - do breastfeed, do not use diapers, do not eat junk food, etc. etc. All attention shifts from the new mom to the newborn, and again the quest begins of trying to find a way to balance out all the advice and our own motherly instincts. The phase of life begins where the baby is the world, and life revolves around how to keep the baby clean and healthy and satiated and safe.
The rigours start, feeding properly, bathing and massaging, vaccinations, learning to sing lullabies and making the baby sleep - it sounds simple and joyful, but is it really that easy? It tests our wits and patience and everything. Why? Because it is not just a single duty of being a mother that is laid upon us. It comes with our rest of the roles - our roles as a wife, a daughter-in-law, as a professional, and it does take a toll on us.
Initial six months fly by under exhaustion, sleepless nights, body aches, frustration at times, because it is acclimatisation time for both the mother and the baby. The baby that is out in a complete new environment and dependent and the mother who is recovering from delivery pain, and learning to fit in the new role and its demands. The ensuing months of the journey take us from weaning lessons and diet planning to supporting our little one’s endeavours of trying to crawl, talk, her learning to stand and walk. To see the baby crawl, topple toddle, walk and spell out words - yes , it is rewarding to find our baby growing well - a milestone crossed.
Then the preschool and potty training and teaching manners all send us towards another milestone of making the baby fit for school - she must respond to the teachers well, must respect elders, must stay away from junk food, etc etc.
Three years go by and one can see our reward in how the baby has grown up to be a child, learning her lessons and comparing us to the teachers at school, confronting our suggestions and sharing with us what other kids do and say...you wonder...should you go strict and tell your child to follow your diktat, or should you budge now and then and listen to child and let the child have its way?
Years go on to show us our growing little bud and again anxiety grips us - which school to choose, are teachers friendly, what if they go strict, what if there is corporal punishment, is it safe, are staff and others good, what if the child comes to meet a pervert, need to teach him - so, the mothering continues. It continues till your child is off to higher studies, dating, married. Yet the connect is hard to loosen up. All these questions arise all these years, and most women forget that we have a life of our own too. We must take care of ourselves too - it's not being selfish or being a bad mother; it's rewarding ourselves for what we have been, what we are and what all we can be. And this starts with making informed or aware choices.
Mothers, new moms, expecting moms, moms-to-be, just remember to enjoy this bliss of motherhood. We need to simply let ourselves free, feel happy and blessed to have made the choice to gear up the the next generation of our family. We have the power to procreate, to generate, to show the world the magic called life, the power nature chose to bestow upon us. Yes, let's feel special and not shy away from asking a little time for taking care of ourselves and our goals. Lets share duties and responsibilities, share privileges, share our thoughts and help ourselves. There is no need to compare ourselves with what others have achieved. Let's learn to cheer them for what they got, get inspired and see what we want to do and do it in our own way. Let's learn to relax, even if time and circumstances check our patience! Let's enjoy time with our baby; let's keep in mind that the days with our baby will not come back; let's live the moment to its fullest.
For the new moms it is exhausting - the pleasure gets all mixed up with tiredness on account of taking care of the little one. Let's not worry; this phase comes to all mothers. Even if one can take a little time out, sit calmly and relax and tell ourselves that we are worth it; that we are blessed. And no matter how hard the times, how difficult the things this motherhood brings issues like weight gain, pains, cramps, sleepless nights, no self-time , pregnancy and delivery related health issues, sometimes hormonal upheaval resulting in confused emotions; let it all come and know that it is going to pass too, let's simply relax keeping in mind our worth. Let's think of it as a self-taken sabbatical, and then as the child grows up, we will find we have grown up too.
We are more intelligent now, more understanding; we know ways to tackle tantrums, ways to dry away fake tears and ways to teach. We will realise we too have grown up now, and that too in the real sense. Hail motherhood!

How to Make Your Child Fast Learner to Walk With Advance World!
Hello, all beautiful parents who are reading my article.
Let's talk on how to make your child a fast learner, as many parents have concerns that my child lacks in speech, walking, is not eating proper food, is headstrong etc. I am also a mother of a two and half-year-old boy. I want to share my experience with you all that you can make your child a fast learner with an effortless way, and you don't need to go anywhere for that.
In today's world, we extraordinarily treat our child from the day they are born rather than to treat them in a NORMAL WAY. For example, we make them wear nappy since the first day than to wear cotton Langot and child get habituated with nappy and doesn't get the sensation of wetting and this makes him into a late potty trained baby. I would suggest taking your child into washroom once they started sitting on his own and give habit of doing potty in the toilet only. I am not against of nappy, but you have to be firm regarding the use of it.
For speech part, I must say that mother should start talking with the baby the day the child is born, and maybe after one month, everyone at home should have a conversation with the baby for everything with one language. This would help the baby to understand not only the speech but daily routine things that help your child to achieve milestones on time.
Make a routine schedule for the child, make him sleep early as it helps in brain development. Let's not stick to weaning pattern. Once your baby starts weaning after six months of age, let your child explore all healthy options that help him to set in the world of food. Do your lunch and dinner together with your child once you start weaning. It will help to understand how to eat, what to feed etc.
For the socialising part, we have nuclear family nowadays, and most parents have the same query that my child is not mixing well with others, not sharing anything etc. Let's begin with family members only. Explain the concept of sharing, greeting, helping, by practising among family members. Arrange more get-togethers with your friends and relatives, take your child with you in every function that will improve the child.
Let your child explore all the small things of daily routine and include your child in every activity during the day. Don't worry about the mess. All things help your child to be FAST LEARNER.
Thank you for reading!

A. It is not a pre-term degree once you enter into your nine months you can deliver any time and it will be a full-time delivery so see if your gynaecologist is suggesting you something go for that because she’s monitored your pregnancy throughout these nine months so I think she would not suggest you anything wrong of going a sec for a second opinion you go for what your gynaecologist suggesting but try going ahead with a normal delivery

A. You have to take proper medications to balance your hormones and that is what is going to be helpful in a regular period cycle once your periods are regular you’ll be sure about the time when you’re on dating and that would be the right time for you to conceive so that is how you need to work upon it
