8 Indoor Activities That Will Stimulate Your Toddler's Brain Development
Toddlers are big energy balls, what a struggle it can be for parents to get them to sit down at one place and focus on a single task. The first three years of a child's life are crucial for learning and development, and almost 90% of a child's brain development happens by the age of 5. What your munchkin learns in the initial years of his life can shape his future. Needless to say that as parents, you should try to engage your child in activities that support his cognitive development. We have listed down some fun indoor activities that will keep your child focused and won’t discount on the fun factor.
8 Indoor Activities to Develop Your Toddler’s Brain
Indulge your child in these fun learning activities to stimulate his cognitive and linguistic development. These simple games are nothing but brain exercises that will develop his memory and problem-solving skills while preparing him for school too.
1. Reading
We know your little one is perhaps too young to read, so you will have to read to him instead. Select a storybook, appropriate for your toddler, perhaps a book with a simple plot and tons of images and place that in front of your child. Then read out the story by changing the tone of your voice for different characters and by using animated gestures. Hearing new words and sounds, and observing images and colours will stimulate different parts of his brain.
As he listens to you intently and tries to understand the story, his imagination power, vocabulary, concentration, and listening skills will get a boost. Kids, especially toddlers, are impressionable, and they learn primarily by observing and imitating their parents. So by reading to your little one, you'll also be instilling the habit of reading; a habit that has innumerable benefits!
2. Colouring
Your child doesn't have to be an artist to colour or paint. Colouring will keep him engrossed for long, and if he enjoys it, it might become a hobby that sticks for life. You can get a colouring book with pictures of different animals or flowers in it and give him crayons. Get your little one Camlin Child Grip Crayons, which are made with special non-toxic materials. These colours are completely safe for a toddler's use; they come in five shades. Their shape is such that it makes them easy to hold and can help better your child's grasp, which later on will ensure that he has a proper grip. Colouring can improve his fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination while giving a boost to his imagination, concentration power, and ultimately, his cognitive skills. Let him colour to his heart's content!
3. Sorting Out Things by Colour or Shape
For this activity, place blocks, colourful pom poms, or colourful buttons in a box and teach your tot to sort them by colour, shape, and size. As your child gets the hang of this activity, you can take it a level upward and ask him to pick the utensils like stainless steel bowls and glasses from the dishwasher and put them in the right drawers (though keep the knives and utensils with sharp edges away). Your little one will soon learn to sort and group things on his own—it's a brain churning activity indeed!
4. Stacking Cups or Blocks
Toddlers love stacking things! And while they’re at it, their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and concentration skills are getting sharpened. You can get stacking cups, stacking rings, or even building blocks for your tot, and show him how to stack things together. Let him stack toys as high as he can or one inside the other (if he has stacking cups). This activity can even help him with shape identification, colour recognition, counting, and sorting, to say the least.
5. Trying Out Textures
Little tots are sensory learners; when they use their senses of touch, taste, and smell, it boosts their cognitive function. You can make your child touch items of varied textures like cotton balls, sandpaper, beans, soap, etc., and let him try to hold them one by one and describe the texture. This will improve his grasp and trigger his senses. Working on your child’s grasp (and grip) from early on is also important as good grasp is the key to good handwriting. Camlin Child Grip Crayons are easy to hold and are specially designed for kids to improve their grip. Hand him a crayon and let him draw or colour on any surface. These colours are washable off porous surfaces, so you don’t have to worry about hiding the colour marks on your walls when the guests come in uninvited.
6. Scavenger Hunt
Children love to explore, and we are sure that your little bundle of joy will love this challenging game. Hide his favourite toys or objects of a particular colour and let him hunt for them. He will have fun searching for those toys and bringing them to you. It will also give him a sense of accomplishment while improving his problem-solving skills.
7. Singing Vocabulary Words or Action Songs
To improve your child's vocabulary, sing popular songs like the 'Alphabet song’, 'Twinkle twinkle little star', or 'Row, row, row your boat' with actions. Encourage him to sing along with you. While trying to imitate you and sing in his gibberish, he will learn new words every day and will also try to associate words with actions. He will also get a good understanding of rhyming words.
8. Cooking
You don't have to ask your little one to join you while cooking something that involves knives and fire. But you can involve him in the prep (like helping clean peas). Alternately, you can introduce him to flameless cooking. Something as simple as a peanut butter sandwich can work as a great activity and keep him entertained for a while. Plus, he gets to eat it when he’s done! Moreover, it will also enable him to understand the different textures and tastes of different food items.
These are some activities that will stimulate your child’s brain and help in his overall development. Make your child practice one to two activities daily – it’s never too early to get his brain churning!

10 Effective Home Remedies for Headaches During Pregnancy
Pregnancy is a time when a woman is excited and nervous, thinking about that little bundle of joy who would bring so much joy in her life. Pregnancy brings about a lot of changes in a woman's body and it also leads to several discomforts, such as headaches. Yes, experiencing headaches during pregnancy is as common as experiencing morning sickness, nausea, or fatigue. Headaches might occur at any time during pregnancy but they tend to be more common during the first and third trimesters. If you are pregnant and experiencing this symptom, you can, of course, consult a doctor or you should opt for natural remedies for headaches.
Common Reasons for Headaches During Pregnancy
During pregnancy, hormonal changes and an increase in blood volume can lead to headaches. These are the most common causes of headaches in pregnancy. But there are several other reasons why you may experience headaches while pregnant.
Stress
Poor posture
Lack of sleep
Low blood sugar
Caffeine withdrawal
Dehydration
Natural Remedies for Headaches During Pregnancy
It is advisable to rely on home remedies to deal with the problem of headache since medications should be taken only after consultations with doctors. In addition, there are probable side effects of medications on babies that need to be taken care of. So, try these following home remedies, and you might be able to relieve yourself of a headache without any medications.
1. Drink Lots of Water
Staying hydrated can help provide relief from headaches during pregnancy. In the pregnancy phase, it is important to stay hydrated in order to keep your body energized and ensure proper circulation of enzymes and proteins. Try to drink at least 8 ounces of water each day to prevent headaches.
2. Use a Cold Compress
During pregnancy, migraine can be caused due to expanded blood vessels in the head. A cold compress can help in tightening the blood vessels and shrinking the cells and thus help in alleviating the pain. You can use an ice pack if you like or you can make a cold compress at home. All you will need is a clean towel and a bowl of cold water. Dip the towel in water and squeeze out extra water. Lie down on a comfortable surface and place the towel on your forehead and eyes, and press it gently. A cold compress is known to provide relief from vascular headaches such as a migraine.
3. Use a Hot Compress
Shrinking of blood vessels can lead to low blood circulation, which may further cause headaches during pregnancy. Just like a cold compress, you can even try a hot compress. A hot compress helps in alleviating the pain by expanding the blood vessels and increasing the blood flow to the brain. Tension headaches are better treated with a hot compress. For hot compress, you will need a clean towel and a bowl of hot water. Soak the towel in the bowl of water and squeeze out the excess water; apply on the forehead or the base of the neck for relief.
4. Bite Some Ginger
Ginger has been used as a natural remedy for nausea. It also acts as a natural remedy for headache during pregnancy as it treats migraine. Ginger blocks prostaglandins, which stimulate muscle contraction and thus helps prevent headaches. If you don't want to consume raw ginger, you can also make ginger tea. Here's how you can make ginger tea.
Ingredients
1-inch long ginger root (grated)
Some peppermint leaves (crushed)
Half a lemon
Method
Boil two cups of water over medium heat, then add the grated ginger and crushed peppermint leaves to it. Let it boil further for about five minutes more. Turn off the flame, and strain the water in a cup and squeeze half a lemon in it and stir. Ginger tea should provide you with quick relief from a headache.
5. Take a Nap or Practice Yoga
Sometimes, a lack of sleep can trigger headaches and migraines; so if you think you are experiencing a headache because of poor sleep, take a nap, and you will feel better. If you want to sleep longer, then do try anything that will make you feel better.
If you are feeling super-stressed, doing some yoga would be a good idea because of the multiple benefits it offers. Yoga will help lower your stress and help you sleep better. It will also make sure that your body gets the required exercise during pregnancy.
6. Try a Prenatal Massage
Go to a prenatal massage therapist to relieve the stress from shoulders, neck, and back. If going out to the therapist doesn’t work for you, then there are certain massages that can be done at home. Try rubbing your shoulders at the base of your skull and below your wrists. Be aware of trigger points that can induce contractions such as the point between the thumb and index finger, and avoid them.
7. Use Peppermint Oil
Peppermint oil has a cooling effect on the skin and reduces tension. It also lessens headache sensitivity. Take a few drops of the peppermint oil in your palms and rub it in between your palms for a few seconds. Apply oil to the temples or forehead and massage for a minute. Do this before going to bed to see positive results.
8. Use Omega-3 Oil
Adding some oil in your diet helps in reducing inflammation. Omega 3 fatty acids that are found in fatty fish reduce the intensity and duration of headaches. Including olive oil and canola oil in the diet can increase the consumption of omega-3 oil. Alternatively, omega-3 fatty acid pills can also be taken.
9. Drink Lemon Juice
Lemon juice has numerous benefits, and fighting headaches is one of them. It also provides relief from stomach cramps and improves the immune system. Pregnancy can reduce vitamin C levels in the body, causing headaches. Lemon also flushes out toxins from the body and improves blood circulation and works as an antioxidant.
To prepare a lemon juice, you will need
Half a lemon
Some ginger grated (optional)
A glass of hot (or warm) water
Squeeze the lemon into the water and stir in the ginger and drink. This is an effective method to treat a headache at home while pregnant.
10. Lavender Oil
Lavender oil also relaxes and soothes the skin. Therefore, massaging some oil onto the forehead can help reduce the pain.
Additional Tips to Relieve Pregnancy Headaches
Here are some more tips that you can try to get relief from headaches in pregnancy -
Have small meals throughout the day and ensure that you are consuming enough proteins.
Put Epsom salts in your bath water and take a warm bath to relax.
Try acupuncture to relieve the stress points of your body.
Exercise regularly but don't overdo.
Avoid caffeine, as caffeine withdrawal can also trigger headaches.
In the worst-case scenario, consider taking a paracetamol tablet (650 mg) if nothing else works.
Generally, these headaches are very much manageable at homes, but consult a doctor might be needed if:
The pain becomes unbearable.
If a headache is accompanied by a blurry vision or pain in the upper right abdomen and swelling in hands and face.
A headache starts after six months of pregnancy, which might be a sign of toxaemia and preeclampsia.
A headache is something that everyone experiences from time to time. However, it can be a major source of inconvenience during pregnancy. Try the home remedies mentioned above; but if the pain becomes unbearable, consult a doctor. Have a healthy and safe pregnancy! Read more

7 Easy-To-Follow Fashion Tricks To Hide Your Post-Pregnancy Belly
It's been a long 9 months but your baby is finally here and the wait was so worth it! But along with the soft baby skin, velvety hair and gurgles came something that you'd rather not have – stubborn belly fat!
While we're all for embracing mommyhood with its glorious tiger stripes a.k.a stretchmarks and podgy belly fat, there are some of us who'd like to wear their pre-baby fashionable clothes in a way that hides their belly fat. Let's look at some ways to style that post-preggo belly!
Here’s What to Wear to Hide Post Baby Belly
1. Tucking In
[caption id="attachment_261084" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] Source: https://www.instagram.com/p/B2eN-Y8lgDF/[/caption]
While all the tucking in you are thinking of is associated with nap-time and babies, we're talking about tucking your shirt into your pants. Pregnancy may have had us investing in long, butt-covering tops over leggings but now it’s time to tuck. Those same long, billowy tops can be tucked into pants for a pooch-camouflaging look.
2. Peplum's The New Bodycon
[caption id="attachment_261098" align="aligncenter" width="1080"] Source: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bs7ur9HHEYc/[/caption]
Peplum tops are fitted on your bust and flare out for a fun and feminine silhouette. You need to find a peplum that flares just at the point your tummy bulge begins to hide it. Peplum tops work best with straight pencil trousers but can work well with high waisted skirts too.
3. Skin Show...yes please!
[caption id="attachment_261097" align="aligncenter" width="1072"] Source: https://www.instagram.com/p/ByuIlKUHkm_/[/caption]
Showing skin may really be the last thing you want to do right now but trust us on this. Slight skin show tends to draw attention away from your tummy. Try on a plunging neckline or a cut-off shouldered top to work your mommy magic. Designs like these can become perfect clothes to hide post pregnancy tummy!
4. T-shirts With a Twist
[caption id="attachment_261087" align="aligncenter" width="1080"] Source: https://www.instagram.com/p/B05CvjzlSA8/[/caption]
Look for unconventional t-shirt styles; they can become really cool postpartum clothes. There are so many types to choose from that tummy bulges are pretty much invisible to people around. You can opt for bubble hems for a tried and tested tummy hiding outfit.
5. Don't Waste Your Vests
A summery vest with a waterfall hem is versatile enough to be layered with maxi dresses but can also be worn on its own, paired with shorts or a mini-skirt – a perfect mix of flow and structure!
6. Pool time? Pretty please!
[caption id="attachment_261089" align="aligncenter" width="1080"] Source: https://www.instagram.com/p/ByzYY-dnl0_/[/caption]
Been passing up pool-time because of your little tummy-pooch? Firstly, that's no reason to! You are already a star for going through labour and delivery, so you have every right to feel like one. Your belly is only a reminder of the nest you created for your little one. However, if it does make you feel conscious, then opt for a kaftan-style cover-up or even a one piece for those pool-parties or beach vacations. Keep your accessories bold to draw attention away from the tummy. Kaftans look lovely with a pair of shorts as well.
7. Secret Under Your Clothes
No, we aren't being naughty, we're talking about shapewear. We know it can get sweaty in a tight bodysuit so you'd best ditch that full body spanx and go for high waist shaping briefs. Many C-sec mums have reported that the slight pressure on their tender scars is actually relieved as the shaping briefs hold the loose skin firm and also protect the scar from waistbands. Even though, please check with your doctor before you consider this option.
BONUS: Wear Comfortable Summer/Cocktail Dresses
Surprised? Here you are, struggling to hide your post-pregnancy belly and a fitted dress sounds ridiculous. But there actually are a number of designs you can opt for to look classy and also disguise the pooch. Opt for dresses with a gathered waist. You can also get dresses that have secret flaps/slits that can be pulled up (will also help you with nursing). Prefer dresses with a simple elastic neckline so you can comfortably dress/undress.

Preparing for Twins - Here's Your Handy Checklist
A rush of thrill, excitement, joy and bliss followed by an unsettling nervousness about being able to cope with this overwhelming milestone, are the common emotions experienced by every mother who has just received the revelation of all her expectations having been doubled.
Are you going to be twice the mother, all at once? Then you must remain assured that tremendous research has been done on multiple (twin) births with the advancement of science and technology. Therefore, a huge amount of information, resources and medical expertise are at your disposal to help you deal with it all. Steady, long-term planning pays well and helps to ease all those bursts of anxiety.
With very rare cases of multiple births in the past, recent charts have hit high for, eg. the UK, has seen nearly double the pairs of twins born per year this century as compared to the previous century. This rise is perhaps largely due to the changes in lifestyle.
Wondering about how you managed to conceive twins? Largely depends on your lifestyle. Go through the following to find out how:
According to observation, maternal ancestry has a greater role to play as compared to paternal. If your mother and maternal grandmothers have had twins, you are likely to conceive similarly.
Age plays a great role. If you are conceiving late ( i.e. in your middle age ), then you are likely to have multiple pregnancies.
If you have had a child-birth earlier, then you are highly likely to have multiple pregnancies.
The probability of conceiving twins also sometimes depends on your race and ethnicity. Some races have a greater capacity to produce multiple babies at once with Nigerians being the greatest and Japanese being the lowest.
If you have had fertility treatments done, to help you ovulate, you might produce more than one egg at once, fertilization of which sometimes leading to twins.
Tips to Get Ready for Twins
What to expect when preparing for twins? This is a common question that new parents are often buzzing with. As a parent expecting twins, you are advised to seek professional help and medical support right from the moment you find out. Mothers expecting twins are generally treated as ‘high risk’ patients. However, this must not seem alarming, rather comforting to you, as you must understand that you require to double the care and double the monitoring of a singleton mother.
As excited and thrilled as you may be to go out there and buy all you can for your little ones- the moment the news settles in, hold your horses! We bring you some tips and advice to keep in mind as you gear up for multiple pregnancies:
In the following paragraphs, we offer some useful tips and techniques that you can keep in mind to prepare for your twins. Read on.
1. Affordability
Preparing for twins on a budget can be quite challenging. However, we are here to assist you in making the best of your available resources to set up a warm, welcoming environment for your children. Are you bothered by the thought of affordability of twins? We’d suggest you allocate most of this money in getting the best medical help and support. Antenatal care is highly important for twin-mothers. You must undergo frequent scans and tests. Regular monitoring gives great comfort and peace of mind. This will, however, be as prescribed by your gynaecologist. Prefer to approach a team of obstetrician/gynaecologist, paediatrician and sonographers who have handled many cases of multiple pregnancies earlier. Do your research.
2. Join Classes
Enrol for antenatal and childbirth classes. These will help you prepare for pregnancy and childbirth.
3. Consult a Dietician
Get healthy advice on your diet, preferably by a dietician. Some things to keep in mind are to consume sufficient proteins that will enable weight gain and provide for all the extra nutrition your babies need. Avoid food containing fatty acids and sugars. Try to sustain on foods that burn longer and provide long-term nourishment such as whole-grain bread and lots and lots of vegetables. Prioritize intake of food rich in iron content, such as leafy vegetables and beetroots. Avoid a high intake of vitamin A.
4. Do Research on Premature Labour
Twins often arrive earlier than expected. Learn about the signs of preterm labour.
5. Think about the Crib and Clothes to Buy
There is no need to purchase everything in pairs when preparing for a twins' nursery. You might want to buy a crib divider or use a towel to keep the twins from banging into each other rather than hurriedly investing in two strollers. Great, well designed single strollers to accommodate twins are also available. Buying identical or non-identical clothes is completely your call. Yet, the best suggestion would be to buy different clothes as one can easily interchange wardrobes then.
6. Stock Up on Supplies
Have a good stock of warm clothes (hooded ones), lots of diapers and bibs for your twins.
7. Plan Ahead
Since twins are mostly premature, they need intensive care immediately post-birth. Schedule services and a suitable hospital with all the necessary facilities, well in time.
8. Hire or Enlist Help
Both your pre- and post-delivery preparations must be executed in advance. Preparing for twins in the first trimester can be challenging. You can either hire professional help or engage family members in support since this is going to be a quite a task.
9. Learn Your Twins' Sleep and Feeding Cycle
Understand your twin’s wake periods and schedule their feeding and bathing time for the first few months. Additional help is essential. Ask for it, to ensure that your babies get fed in time.
10. Join Support Groups
Lastly, enrol in groups and clubs of twin-mothers. Here, you will find other expecting mothers going through your state of mind as well as older mothers of twins who have already undergone this challenge and emerged victoriously. Best tips come from the wizened and the experienced.
Hope this article helps you navigate the challenging path of being a mother to twins!

Newborn Baby Skincare Routine for the Summer Season
Taking care of a newborn's skin is quite challenging for a new mom, especially in the summers. But, it can be simple if a routine is established and implemented.
Following are the steps to be followed by new moms to take care of your baby’s delicate skin:
1. Oil Massage
You can use a baby oil or coconut oil to massage the baby's body for 10-15 minutes, and leave it on for 30 minutes before giving them a bath. It's best if parents do this from the very first day. It also helps enhance bonding with your little one. Gently massage your baby in the upwards direction, all over the body, and also do some stretches and exercise for your baby.
2. Bath
Bathe your baby with warm water, and use mild baby soap or body wash. One can also use oatmeal paste before using soap - apply it and leave it on your baby for 5 minutes before applying the soap. It is not necessary to give your baby a head bath daily; 2-3 times a week is enough. It is necessary to bathe your baby 2 times a day in the summer season because it is very hot. Washing the baby's face can also be included separately.
3. Moisturisation
After a warm bath, pat your baby's body dry with a soft towel and moisturise the baby's body with a baby lotion. One can avoid applying powder to the baby if they have dry skin. It is better to use a separate baby face cream and a separate baby body lotion. If a baby has complications like eczema, then one can opt for an odourless lotion.
4. Sunscreen
Apply sunscreen if you are stepping out with your baby. In summers, it is better to dress your baby in an outfit that has an attached cap.
5. Lip Balm
Use a lip balm if your baby's lips tend to dry out quick. Lip balm can be used twice or thrice a day after feeding, also so that the baby's lips can be protected from turning dark.
These steps ensure that your baby's skin is protected and well-maintained in the summers.

A. Typically, your bump becomes noticeable during your second trimester. Between 16-20 weeks, your body will start showing your baby's growth. For some women, their bump may not be noticeable until the end of the second trimester and even into the third trimester. The second trimester starts in the fourth month.
