15 Interactive Music Games for Kids
Rhythm is often described as our sixth sense. And it isn’t just us! Even cows have been reported to feel significantly de-stressed when listening to soothing music! The positive effects of learning a musical instrument by a developing brain have been widely appraised. In fact, it is never too early for your child to begin appreciating music. So, make music a part of your child's growth years by playing some foot-tapping tunes as and when possible. Here are some interactive music games that you can let your children play and help them gain the benefits of music therapy.
15 Interesting Music Games and Activities for Children
Music activities for kids are a fun way of training your child’s abstract thinking capabilities. The following games require nothing more than common household items while being a whole lot of fun.
1. Hide and Seek
One of the best music activities for preschoolers to help your child’s listening skills.
What You Will Need :
A musical toy/music player
Hiding Spots
How to Play :
Get your child to close his/her eyes and wait till you hide a musical toy or device within hearing distance somewhere inside your house (preferably a place safe for your child to access).
Turn on the music and run away from the location.
Then let your child open his/her eyes and seek the toy by ear.
You can increase the difficulty of this game by hiding the toy in more unlikely places as your child grows better at listening and finding. A spare mobile could also be used.
2. Passing the Happy Parcel
Everyone’s a winner in this fun game!
What You Will Need:
A small “special” gift in a small package
Lots of wrapping paper
Sweets, toffees, stickers, little toys or other treats
How to Play:
Wrap your main gift in one layer of wrapping paper.
Place a treat over the main gift and wrap it with more wrapping paper.
Continue this step until all the treats are wrapped in, making a big package.
Now, seat the children in a circle. Start passing the package while the music plays.
When the music stops, the child holding the package is eliminated. However, he/she gets to remove the first layer of the wrapping paper and take the treat!!
Continue until the only person left gets the ‘main’ prize!
A good thing to make sure of would be to have enough layers of treats in so that everyone at the party gets one!
3. Little Maestros
Did you know that Mozart began composing music by the age of five?
What You Will Need
Sheets of paper
Pencil, crayons or sketch pens
How to Play
Designate a symbol for a sound. For example, a circle could denote a clap and a triangle, a snap of your finger.
Create up to four sounds with their corresponding symbols. Sounds can include simple ones like tapping the table, stomping your foot, etc.
Create a sequence of symbols that your child can then “read” to make music.
Encourage them to create their own music, using these symbols and listen to their masterpieces.
This game may be used as an early tool to teach a child that practice makes perfect!
4. Sounds of Music
Violin? Cello? Flute? This game could seem a little intense to start out with, but it’s the one you and your kid will keep playing for the rest of your lives!
What You Will Need
Music player
Instrumental music tracks (best to start music that has one or two instruments)
How to Play
Familiarise your child with different instruments and their sounds.
Play a simple song and let your child guess what instrument is being used in the song.
As he/she gets well versed in identifying individual instruments, increase the level of difficulty by introducing music with 2 or even more instruments.
It’s never too early for your child to get introduced to music!
5. Musical Clothes
Another party spin-off of the classic music activities for preschoolers!
What You Will Need
A bag full of clothing (the wackier, the better. Include things like wizard hats, capes, party props, etc.)
Chairs
Music player
How to Play
Arrange the chairs in a circle for the children to sit.
When the music begins playing, the bag with the clothes and props is passed.
When the music stops, the child with the bag has to pull out one item from the bag and put it on.
Continue until the bag is empty. Whoever has the most items of wacky clothing on is the winner!
6. Bingo Dance-o
An active and musical version of the classic game of bingo that seniors love playing.
What You Will Need
Large sheets of paper
A number of prizes
Music player
How to Play
Number each sheet from 1 to the number of children playing the game.
Wrap your prizes and number those randomly.
Place the sheets on the floor.
Like musical chairs, when the music is switched on, the children walk around the sheets of paper.
When the music stops, each child picks one sheet to sit or stand on.
Pick out any one of the wrapped prizes and state the number marked on it.
The child who picked the sheet with the same number wins the prize. The sheet and that child are now out of the game.
Repeat till all the prizes are over.
As far as musical games for preschoolers go, this is a party favourite.
7. Nursery Rhyme Time
Nursery Rhymes are used for early childhood music activities because of their simple rhythm and wording.
What You Will Need
Extremely simple nursery rhymes (“Baa Baa Black Sheep” and “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” cannot go wrong)
Corresponding actions for the words (easily improvised or found online)
How to Play
Teach the child the words of the nursery rhyme, focusing on the rhythm of reciting it.
When they are familiar with the words and recitation, introduce actions that correspond to the words.
Another element that could take the place of actions is clapping. Patting hands with a partner or the parent is a good way to build confidence.
This activity also benefits the child’s enunciation.
8. Musical Statues
Freeze!
What You Will Need
Music player
Space to dance
How to Play
Let the children start dancing when the music is turned on.
Let them jump and dance for a while and then pause the music.
When the music pauses, everyone must freezes.
Children who do not freeze or stumble are eliminated.
Continue until one child remains as the winner.
9. Animal Dance
Help your children bring out their inner animal!
What You Will Need
Square cutouts with a picture of an animal in each one
Music player
How to Play
Let each child pick a card at random. This activity can be carried out all at once or individually.
When the music is played, the child dances imitating the animal on the card.
Repeat the steps for every card you have.
Discuss their movements and how they danced. Down on all fours? Loud? Fast or slow? All these choices show how children’s brains work.
10. The Dance Isles
A blend of musical chairs and musical statues, this one has a charm of its own.
What You Will Need
Sheets of newspaper
Music player
Space to dance
How to Play
Lay the newspapers on the ground (one for each child). Space them out so that there is ample room to dance freely. The paper is their dance island.
Play some music and let the children dance but only over the newspaper.
When the music pauses, each kid should freeze within their own “dance island” i.e. the newspaper. If they break the pose or step outside, they are disqualified.
After each round, the newspaper is folded in half for the kids who are still in the game.
Encourage energetic dancing and play upbeat music. This game can be a good exercise too.
11. Tissue Ballerina
Dancing involves a lot of factors; including grace and balance!
What You Will Need
A box of tissues
Space to dance
Music player
How to Play
Each child places a tissue on their head.
When the music starts, everyone starts dancing.
If a kid’s tissue falls on the ground, they are eliminated. If they manage to catch their tissue before it touches the floor, they can put it back on their head and continue.
Continue until only one remains standing.
12. The Moods of Music
The reason why music is universal is because it connects with our emotions. Kids too experience music in ways we cannot imagine.
What You Will Need
Lots of songs expressing different emotions, such as joy, sadness, anger, etc
Music player
How to Play
Explain the children the objective of this game. Tell them that music can make you feel different at times and encourage them to express how they feel by dancing.
Play different songs and observe how they dance to each song.
This game helps young ones identify their emotions with the help of music.
13. So You Think You Can Dance
Appreciating choreography!
What You Will Need
Music player
Space to dance
To make it interesting, it would be fun to add props or even costumes to the mix
How to Play
Divide the children into teams of two or more and give them their set of props.
Let them pick their own music and create a dance routine for it.
After every team performs, the best team is announced the winner!
More than just fun, this game helps kids appreciate the effort that goes in selecting the steps, setting a dance routine and practising. It also teaches them teamwork and improves their communication skills.
14. Musical Limbo
A party game for all ages!
What You Will Need
A pole – it can be substituted with anything straight and long from around the house, such as curtain rods, mop handles, etc.
Music player
How to Play
Limbo is a party game where players bend backwards at the knee to pass under a horizontal beam, without falling over or touching it.
Add music to the proceedings, and you have Musical Limbo! Children sway and dance their way under the beam held by two adults.
For each new round, lower the bar. The child who can go the lowest without touching the beam wins!
15. Antakshari
Everybody’s favourite!
What You Will Need
Two teams
How to Play
The moderator picks a random alphabet to start off a song. The first team sings a song beginning with that sound of the alphabet. Only two or more lines need to be sung.
The second team then has to sing a song that begins with the last sound of the song sung by the opposite team.
This goes on until one team fails to come up with a song. Several rounds can be played.
This game could work better with teenagers and adults as they would know more songs than children. You may also allow nursery rhymes and every other song the children have learnt.
Some Useful Tips
As a lot of games involve children being eliminated one by one, it is essential to keep the game moving fast, so that the children do not lose their interest.
Recruit children that have gotten out of the game to help you referee, so that they do not feel left out.
Some children may be too shy to join in. Always have some books or toys around for them to keep themselves occupied or to entertain themselves till they muster the courage to participate. Allow them to get involved in the games on their own, but don't forget to put in a word of encouragement every now and then for them to feel included.
While most games involve single big winners, it helps to have several small little prizes for the participants. Appreciate them with gifts for being the ‘most creative’, the ‘funniest dancer’, ‘most lively’, etc.
When arranging these games for children, you might feel a little stressed as kids cannot be exposed to most of the music being created nowadays. Here is a small list of songs that can come to your rescue if you do not have the time to create a playlist for your child.
List of Songs for Kids
These songs are sure to get the party rolling for your kids!
Hickory Dickory Dock
You are my sunshine

Musical games are a great way to get kids moving and overcoming their shyness and inhibitions around their peers. It’s no wonder dancing is popular among people of all ages!
These music games will help in improving your child’s listening skills. He/she will also be able to recognise different sounds. Your child’s vocabulary will develop, too. Soon, your little kiddo will become music smart. However, if you want to make sure that the other skills develop simultaneously, get your child fun activity boxes. These activity boxes will help your child learn while having fun.

My breast feeding journey :
Pain and gain.
I have been thinking about my breastfeeding journey
I started my journey nearly 4 years ago and I was so scared that I would not produce enough milk!Turns out I had more than enough milk and my baby boy and I enjoyed feeding time !
It has been such an amazing time and I hope everyone has to try it.
Everyone going through this beautiful motherhood and breastfeeding journey but many of them do not even try to give breast feeding and totally depend on formula milk but today I will explain all the benefits of breastfeeding and some problems we face and how we can overcome it !
When I was 34 week pregnant my gynaecologist advice me to squeeze my nipple as she noticed I had inverted nipple
So I started doing it regularly,
When My baby boy Riyansh born I had latching problem
But with the help of nurse I am able to feed my baby
To my surprise colostrum started producing The first gold milk for my baby and I feel really Grateful to all hospital staff and especially God.
They also suggested that I use a nipple shield for easy latching. Regular squeezing of nipples helped me a lot and I did not require it any more.
During first few weeks my milk production was less so My lactation experts suggested me to take lactogen tablet once a day and eat healthy protein rich diet ,
As the time passed the production of milk became more , it increased and I always had more than enough milk !
In this beautiful journey many of my relatives, my friends and my Mommy helped me lot and support me whenever I need their help and I am grateful for them always for their advice and tips to increase milk and eat healthy nutritious food
My routine diet while breastfeeding were as follows:

This healthy diet not only helps me to produce more milk but also helps me to manage my weight and stay fit and healthy .
Many of my friends advice me to switch to formula milk but as my breastfeeding is sufficient I never use formula milk
As per my experience I will explain how often should babies be fed ?
First days
Your newborn baby’s belly is tiny so they don’t need large feeding to be full
Baby should be given feeding at least two hours of intervals
8-12 times a day
Frequently feeding helps to produce more milk
Take a glass of water every time before you feed
First week and month
Baby will typically eat 8-10 times a day
If baby is sleeping you can wake up by gently tapping her legs or mouth
6-12 months
Every 4 hours intervals become average as we also introduce solid food now
12 months and up
It varies as baby takes solid food now and less interested in feeding
Gradually we can start weaning now
Here are some benefits for baby as well as mommies
Benefits for baby
It helps my baby to stay healthy and to increase his immunity,I never visited any pediatrician except for vaccinations
It helps my baby to prevent diarrhoea, ear infection, pneumonia and asthma etc
Benefits for mommy
It helps me to lower risk of breast cancer
And ovarian cancer
It also helped me to reduce stress and prevent postpartum depression
It helps to increase my bonding with my baby
Many questions and confusion arises in my mind during this journey after discussing it with my friends it gets resolved
Some of them like
Why don't I have enough milk !
Why are my nipples inverted !
Is my baby full or is he losing weight?!
Oh my sore nipple !
Oh my baby bites me I will start weaning now !
I can do this !
Why won't my baby settle? He is full now !
No not again I am totally tired and sleepy !
I think babies need formula!
So the journey is varies to my every friends
For some it’s a beautiful journey
For some it’s painful empowering journey
For some it’s pain worry and challenges
For some it’s amazing easy love
For some it’s like can I feed forever
For some it’s like no teeth please it hurts a lot
For some it’s different each day
In this beautiful journey many of my friends getting help from their husbands also like cooking dinner to warm milk at night for their wife .
I also have some common problems during this breast feeding journey
Inverted nipple get solved by squeezing it frequently ,
My nipple getting sore so I used to apply aloe Vera gel
I do Breast sagging exercise most of time ,
Baby bite me while feeding
I didn’t have any reaction as I read in one article to avoid any reaction otherwise baby do it again to check our reaction and unlatch baby from breast
Wait a few minutes then try again
Some tips to avoid sagging breast while feeding :
Eat healthy fats
Drink plenty of water
Wear a supportive bra
Shower
Do exercise regularly
Maintain good postures while feeding
We can use nursing pillow also while feeding
I also have breast feeding experience in public
As we visited Singapore when Riyansh is one year old, I breastfeed my baby in fact it help me a lot instead of searching for warm water to clean bottle
I can easily give breastfeeding to him ,it also help him to take sleep easily
It saved my time and effort
I never feel ashamed to feed in public as everyone is doing their job and I just enjoyed it and it’s really a very Beautiful journey .
Breastfeeding was easy for me ...
I know some of mommy not even try give breast feeding due to some health issues they do not control
But if you can please do !

There are certain qualities that a person needs to possess to be considered as someone who will be leading a team.
Qualities That Good Manager Should Possess
If you have just been promoted to a managerial position or are aiming to become one shortly, it will help to know what the qualities of a good manager are. Here are some qualities of an effective manager:
1. Experience
Without actual work experience in the field, it will be very difficult to know how to lead a team to ensure that everyone works towards a common goal, in the best interests of the company. A good manager should have the experience needed so that he or she will be able to make better decisions for the team. You can try to either gain experience in your actual field of work or volunteer for other events or positions where you will get the needed experience to become a manager in a certain field.
2. Knowledge
Going hand in hand with experience, there is a knowledge base gained by those who have been doing the job. It is very important to have actually studied about the field in question, because you will make a much better manager if you know how things work from top to bottom. Take advantage of your work experience to learn as much as you can or enrol in short-term courses for the same.
3. Time Management
Time management is very important because a manager also sets an example for those who are on the team. If you are always late, your employees may take this to mean that it is okay if they are also late to work. Time management is also a very important quality for a manager to develop because it will mean the difference between good quality work delivered on time and rushed work that does not quite meet the standards. To complete a project, good time management is essential.
4. Delegation
A lot of people have an attitude where they feel like something will only get done the right way if they do it by themselves. This is the type of mentality a manager should not have. As a manager, you should know how to delegate tasks to the rest of the team so that the work can be completed better. You will need to pick the right person for the right job and make sure that everyone works in harmony with each other.
5. Respect for Employees
Managers who do not respect their employees often find it hard to get the job done right. Employees are people too, and deserve respect and understanding. If you are a good manager to them, they will reward you with hard work and dedication as they will feel valued, and not used and overworked.
6. Leadership
Being able to lead a team of people is not something that everyone is capable of. Each person is different and will have their own pros and cons. Knowing how to manage everyone and ensuring that each employee performs to the best of his or her potential is the key to being a manager and a good leader.
7. Communication
Good communication is vital to being a good manager. Communicating the needs of the organisation or the project at hand and making sure that everyone knows the parts that they will need to play is important. With bad communication comes misunderstandings and incomplete or poorly done work. As a manager, you should always check to see whether your employees can understand what you need from them. Solving problems between employees is also another place where your communication skills may come in handy and will be very much needed.
8. Organisation
Being organised will make or break your position. You will need to make sure that everything you have is in order because you are managing a team of people who will depend on you for guidance and leadership. Your team cannot be organised if you are not organised yourself. For those of you who may have trouble with keeping everything organised, you can check online for information on how you can do this. Daily planners and year planners are essential tools for keeping yourself well-organised and ready for action. Being good at organising also means you should be good at planning and delegating.
9. Reliability
A reliable manager will be able to lead the team to success in whatever task is undertaken. If your team cannot rely on you to be there for guidance and support, they too will not be able to put forth their best efforts at the job at hand. You need to make sure you have enough time in a day to be there for your team, even if it is just so that they know that you'll be there if they need you. You need to be there ready to guide them and to solve any issues that may come about. Keeping your promise and doing what you said you would do is another way that you can be reliable and set a good example for your team.
10. Confidence
Being confident is a far cry from being arrogant, but unfortunately, many don't understand this. The confidence you need as a manager should be in yourself and in your abilities. You should not doubt yourself or the decisions that you make as this will only cause your team to be less confident in their work also. You should not throw your weight around and call that confidence. If you need to take a risk, do it believing that you are making the right decision. This will show confidence to those under you.
How Can You Become a Good Manager?
Here are some tips on how to become an effective manager:
Work hard towards your goals and always take the opportunity to learn more and gain experiences.
Make it a habit to lay out good business plans and keep yourself organised so that you will be able to perform your duties smoothly and effectively.
Be honest in your work and always have a sense of accountability as you are responsible for yourself and your team. If they mess up, you will be the one to have to answer for it. So, ensure that you always do a good job.
Be positive and lead your team with encouragement, understanding and confidence. Be approachable so that your team will feel like they can come to you with problems that they are facing. You will be able to make a positive difference, grow a better team and ensure better performance in work projects by your team members.
Being a manager is a tough job that requires hard decisions and a lot of dedication. It is certainly a step up and a position that anyone should be proud to step into, but there are certain characteristics and qualities that a good manager should have. Working hard is a part of it, but knowing your job, your team and your goals, and taking steps to fulfil requirements with confidence is what being a great manager is all about.

5 Thoughtful Breastfeeding Support Initiatives in India
New moms have a lot on their shoulders – and in their arms! The angel takes up all your time and energy and you can really do without added anxiety. In India, awareness about baby and mommy nutrition has gone up over time. The environment is now more comfortable than before, thanks to initiatives to support breastfeeding.
When you are getting into your mommying shoes, you need all the support you can gather. You may choose to formula feed or breastfeed your baby but either way, you can do without added stress from the workplace, for instance! These 5 initiatives by India can help ensure an easier time for both you and your baby.
How India Supports Breastfeeding Mommies
1. Breastfeeding Rooms in Public Places
Tamil Nadu recently inaugurated over 300 breastfeeding rooms in public spots like the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT). These air-conditioned rooms can be used by eight mothers at a time. What's more, the government has also arranged for nurses to provide any assistance. A sigh of relief indeed for moms worried about nursing during travelling!
2. Solving the “Working and Nursing” Tradeoff
In Bihar, the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) is taking steps to protect breastfeeding in India. Since employees have a hard time breastfeeding on the job, the hospital has created a special room for this purpose. Not just that, the hospital is also working on implementing the six-month maternity leave rule.
3. Digital Mass Education for Women and Children
More often than not, a lack of education is the culprit behind malnutrition and illness. In June this year, the Women and Child Development Ministry launched the “IAP HealthPhone” programme to spread awareness about breastfeeding and the importance of a balanced diet. Like they say, education is the best revolution!
4. Tele-Support for Nursing Mommies
Not all moms have access to medical facilities or specialized assistance. Recognizing this, the Tamil Nadu government is making a concerted initiative to support breastfeeding and educate women in rural areas. Through a phone help line, women can get advice on nursing, nutrition and also seek support on their babies' health.
5. Implementing Maternity Leave Benefits
The Indian government has renewed focus on implementing the Maternity Benefit Act, 1961 which guarantees three months’ leave with wages for pregnant employees. This is indeed a welcome move that will keep new moms breathing easy about their career. After all, they have a lot on their plate just now, right from feeding the baby to handling new parent responsibilities.
India is aiming to raise a healthier and happier future generation. These activities to help nursing mothers in India help ensure that both breastfeeding mommies and their little ones are healthy and safe. Education and support are paramount, irrespective of whether you choose to breastfeed or formula-feed your little bundle of joy! Read more
