Is It Safe to Eat Pineapple in Pregnancy?
Pregnancy is undoubtedly rewarding, but it comes with its share of dos and don’ts. Pregnant women need to follow a lot of restrictions when it comes to food. Certain fruits like pineapples and papayas are considered risky. Let’s find out whether eating pineapples during pregnancy is safe or not.
Can Pregnant Women Eat Pineapples?
Although pineapple and pregnancy don’t quite resonate with many, it is perfectly safe to eat pineapples during pregnancy. Adding a cup or two of pineapples is not just safe, but may even have health benefits for both you and your little one. Pineapple is usually shunned by pregnant women as it contains an enzyme called bromelain which may be responsible for miscarriages when present in your body in large quantities. Try to limit your pineapple intake to seven or eight cups in a week. You can also choose canned pineapples as bromelain is extracted from the fruit during the canning process.
Health Benefits of Eating Pineapples During Pregnancy
Pineapples, when consumed in limited quantities, have a lot to offer to pregnant women. Some health benefits that pineapples provide to pregnant women include:
Boost Immunity
Pineapples are a rich source of vitamin C. One cup of pineapples can provide 80 to 85 mg of vitamin C, which meets the daily requirement during pregnancy. These vitamins boost immunity and repair and prevent cell damage. Vitamin C also aids the production of collagen, a structural protein that is responsible for the growth of the baby’s skin, bones, tendons, and cartilage.
Keep Your Bones Healthy
They also have manganese, which promotes bone health and prevents the risk of osteoporosis.
Regulate the Functioning of the Nervous System
Pineapples contain vitamin B1 or thiamine , which regulates the functioning of the heart and the nervous system.
Increase the Production of RBCs
Vitamin B6 promotes the production of red blood cells, thereby preventing anaemia. It also produces antibodies and relieves morning sickness.
Copper in the pineapple is necessary during the formation of your baby’s heart. It also aids in the production of red blood cells.
Ease the Pressure on Your Bowels
Prevent Congenital Disabilities in the Baby
Keep the Gut Healthy
Prevent Water Retention in the Body
Varicose veins are when the veins in the leg of pregnant women swell, twist and enlarge causing pain. Bromelain is known to reduce the formation of fibrous deposits on these veins and lower discomfort.
Lower the Blood Pressure
Elevate the Mood
Risks of Consuming Pineapple During Pregnancy
Pineapples negatively affect pregnancy when they’re consumed in excess. Here are a few risks you may be taking by eating pineapples when you’re expecting.
1. Acid Reflux
Pineapples have acids that can contribute to acid reflux or heartburn. So, if you have a weak or sensitive digestive system, it’s best to avoid this fruit.
2. Miscarriage/Premature Labour
Accumulation of bromelain in the body may soften the cervix and lead to miscarriage or premature labour. It may also cause uterine contractions, rashes, and vomiting during the first trimester of your pregnancy.
3. Increase the Blood Sugar
Pineapples contain a lot of sugar; hence, they are not suitable for women with gestational diabetes.
4. Increase Body Weight
Pineapples have high-calorie content and aren’t recommended to overweight pregnant women.
5. Cause Diarrhoea
Bromelain is also responsible for diarrhoea if consumed in large quantities.
In case you’re not used to eating pineapples and are trying it for the first time, you may have a few allergic reactions like itching, swelling in the mouth, runny nose or asthma in some cases.
Can Pineapples Induce a Miscarriage?
People believe that eating pineapples induces labour. This is true only if the fruit is consumed in a large quantity.
How Many Pineapples Can a Pregnant Woman Eat?
Avoid pineapples during the first trimester. During the second trimester, you can eat around 50 - 100 gms of pineapple a week. In the third trimester, you can consume around 250 gms of pineapple a day. However, since excess consumption can cause uterine contractions, check with your gynaecologist about how many pineapples you can safely eat.

Some Major Developmental Milestones your Child Should've Reached by Now?
The major developmental milestones are categorised into five types - cognitive, physical, social and emotional, visual and hearing, and communication development. Here are what milestones for a 3 month-old baby.
Cognitive Development Milestones
Imitates actions - Whether you're cooking, cleaning or doing something interesting, your baby will mimic you like a mime and imitate some of your actions.
Chortles - Your baby chuckles, chortles and babbles in response to anything you say to him. It's his way of replying to you.
Turns Head - Whether you make a noise or some else does, your little one will turn his head around to find out the source.
Reads faces from a distance - No longer will you and your friends have to come close to your baby and help him look at everyone. Your baby will be able to notice people and their faces from far away or longer distances now.
Physical Development Milestones
Turning Their Head- Your baby will be able to turn his head when you move objects away from his field of vision in order to track it.
Tilts head 45° - During tummy times, you'll notice your little one being able to lift or tilt his head up 45° and see or notice toys around him. His neck muscles will strengthen in the process.
Bears body weight with support - When you hold your baby up, you'll see your little one being able to stand by bearing his weight on his feet. Although he can't stand all alone, he will be able to stand briefly with your help.
Less Sleep - By the time your little one turns three years old, he will be sleeping less as time goes by. You'll notice him sleeping for 15 hours instead of the usual 16 hours during this phase and during night time especially.
Social & Emotional Milestones
Interacting with Siblings - Your baby will be aware of his siblings' existence and interact with them through coos and other sounds.
Reserved around strangers - Your little one won't be friendly with strangers and remain quiet. Some babies get anxious when shown to strangers as well.
First Laugh - Between the ages of three months to four months is when you will hear your baby laugh for the very first time.
Smiles At You- Where primary caregivers and parents are concerned, your little one will smile as a way to greet people. Your baby will only smile at people he recognizes and not at strangers.
Visual & Hearing Milestones
Sharp Contrasts - Your baby will enjoy seeing brightly coloured toys and sharp contrasts. He will get used to seeping stripes and colours with sharp contrasts like black and white.
Observing Faces - Your baby will start getting accustomed to new faces and may stare back into people's eyes for some time. If you give him a crib mirror, he will intently watch his own facial expressions.
Responds To Your Voice - Your little one will be able to recognize your voice and begin responding to sounds around him through cooing or vowel noises.
Tracks objects with eyes - Your little one will turn his head to track objects that go outside his field of vision. He will be able to follow your movements and watch where you're going as well from far away.
Communication Development Milestone
Social Smiles - If your baby knows a stranger or meets a new friend often, he will show his "social smile" and express joy upon meeting them. This only happens once he's familiarized himself seeing new faces, however.
Making Gestures - Crying isn't the only way your baby communicates at this age. He will mimic you and make gestures for interactions and responses.
Less Crying - Coming back to crying, your baby won't be crying any more than 1 hour a day tops.
More Sounds - Your baby will use babbles and sounds like 'ooh,' 'ah' and vowel notations and cooing voices to communicate with you. He will watch your facial expressions, gestures and respond accordingly with different sounds and tones.
When to Consult a Doctor?
Doesn't Respond - If your baby remains expressionless at the sight of your face and others greeting him, it's a sign of serious developmental delay.
Doesn't Babble - If your baby doesn't make sounds or babbles, then that's a caution sign right there.
Bobs His Head- If your baby flops his head and is not able to support it on his own, then that's something to be concerned about.
Can't grab or hold objects - If your baby shows a lack of interest towards playing with toys, is unable to grab nearby objects or doesn't put toys in his mouth, then that's a telltale sign.
Tips to Help your Three Month-Old Achieve its Milestones
Here are ways to help your little one achieve its milestones sooner:
Tummy Time Games - Play games with your baby that places him in a tummy time position and encourages neck-muscle movement. More tummy time means a faster transition to crawling as well.
Talk To Your Baby - Babble on or say words to your baby even if he doesn't understand at first. Talk about how your day went or what the menu for dinner is. His hearing and vocabulary skills will improve this way.
Connect Words with Gestures - Your little one will make associations faster if you display actions and follow up with words. Routine speaking and doing will teach him to process verbal information on a subconscious level.
Play With Toys - Toy train track sets are one of the best ways to train your little one in the art of tracking moving objects. Tie a string to a toy car, move it around and motivate him to crawl and catch it.
There's no magic formula for achieving the necessary milestones. Just keep practising, be gentle with your little one and he'll get there sooner than you'd expect.

9 Foods to Avoid If You Want Clear and Glowing Skin
Our skin is the reflection of our soul. When we are happy and healthy from within, our skin radiates that warmth. However, when we are feeling low and ill, our skin is among the first to be affected and show warning signs! Eating the right foods and staying away from harmful foods is one effective way to ensure your skin always looks clear and glowing.
There are some common foods many of us consume on a day-to-basis without understanding how harmful they can be. While their consequences may not be visible immediately, they do persistent and continuous damage in the long run.
What Not to Eat for Glowing Skin
Please avoid eating these skin-unfriendly foods, as far as possible, and incorporate the alternatives to keep your skin beautiful and youthful.
1. Juice
Not the first thing that strikes you when it comes to foods that are bad for the skin, right? Juice seems healthy and wholesome as a food. However, this is true only when you are consuming freshly made juice from whole fruits. Packaged juice can be infused with too much sugar and also lacks the natural fibres found in whole fruits. Consuming too much sugar directly increases your acne risk!
Drink this instead: Banana, Oatmeal & Flaxseed Smoothie
2. Cow’s Milk Cheese
Cheese adds its own unique, yummy flavour to regular foods, which is why many of us have a weakness for cheesy sandwiches and spreads. However, cheese made of cow’s milk can also be a trigger for skin problems such as acne! This is because cow’s milk cheese is naturally infused with hormones from lactating cows, which can lead to hormone-induced acne. This is particularly so if you already have acne-prone skin or a history of lactose allergy in the family.
Eat this instead: Cashew cheese – it has no lactose and hence no risk of triggering skin problems. Plus, it can be used exactly like your regular cheese.
3. Canned Soup
Packaged soup – in powdered form or in cans – has made things so much easier for busy moms. Just heat them up and you have a warm, calming meal at hand. However, please be warned: canned soup is full of sodium and bisphenol – things that make your skin retain water and look bloated and dry. Canned soup can also cause problems with hormones which is the top cause of skin-related issues.
4. Coffee
We know this is going to be difficult, but it might be best to limit coffee whenever possible. Caffeine is a diuretic and this causes your body to lose water. The final result is that your skin seems dehydrated. In the long run, and with increasing amount of consumption, the overall texture and health of your skin gets affected.
Drink this instead: Green Tea (or one of these other 5 types of tea)
5. High-Carbs Chips
This one is not really a surprise – that bag of carb-rich, greasy chips many of us love indulging in as a snack is not really healthy. But we don’t mean just physical health or cholesterol-related problems but also skin health. Chips made of processed carbohydrates turn to sugar in the body, and this causes a spike in your insulin levels. As per experts, more insulin means you have a greater acne risk!
Not just that, such chips are usually made with pro-inflammatory oils such as canola oil or vegetable oils. These oils have a direct relation to triggering acne.
Eat this instead: Baked Sweet Potato Fries
6. Grilled Meat
If you are a non-vegetarian, you probably love grilled meat. It tastes amazing and makes for a good change from regularly prepared meat in the kadhai or cooker. However, please keep this in mind: when meat is grilled for too long, it can creates AGE’s (Advanced Glycation End). These products can be harmful for the skin and make it appear older. You know a piece of meat could have AGE’s if it has a blackened finish.
Eat this instead: Italian Meat Balls
7. Cold Drinks / Soda
Come summer and our intake of refreshing soft drinks goes through the roof! But if you have noticed more skin problems lately, even though you are eating healthy, it could be these sodas and cold drinks that are the culprits. Soda is full of sugar and artificial chemicals – things that produce inflammation inside the body. Plus, it also interferes with the healthy bacteria found in your gut. In fact, experts say that if you are fighting with skin issues such like acne, it is a direct evidence of imbalance in your gut bacteria.
Eat this instead: Gut-friendly foods such as Saffron Yoghurt Fruit Trifle
8. Shellfish
While the Omega 3 present in most fish can do wonders for your skin, shellfish tend to have an opposite effect. Prawns, lobsters and crabs contain high levels of iodine which can lead to clogged pores causing acne.
Have this instead: Honey Mustard Sesame Sole Fish
9. Alcohol
Finally, if you enjoy having a hard drink from time to time, understand that alcohol is actually one of the worst foods for your skin. This is because alcohol dehydrates the body, eventually drying out your skin and making it look dull and worn out. While a glass of wine from time to time won’t have a severe negative consequence on the skin, drinking in excess will affect your skin quality.
Drink this instead: Mango and Passion Fruit Mocktail
Did You Know: These Foods are Considered ‘Healthy’ But are Secretly Damaging Your Skin
Everyone is in the race to hit the gym, eat diet food and get ‘healthy’. However, these foods that you think are super healthy for you, can actually be causing some underlying damage to your skin.
1. Low-Fat Foods
Not all fat is bad for you or your skin! When fat is removed from any food, manufacturers tend to add some ‘flavour’ to up the taste or the appeal of the product, and most times that involves sodium or sugar. In a nutshell, low-fat can potentially mean ‘high-sugar’! Sugar is known to negatively impact collagen fibres and leaves them incapable of repairing themselves. Always opt for good fat like avocados or nuts. They are tasty too!
2. Skim Milk
In a study conducted on over 70 thousand nurses in the USA, it was found that those women who drank skim milk as teenagers had higher rates of acne breakouts than those who didn’t. Effects of skim milk are no different. Not only does skim milk contain lactose, but also hormones and bioactive molecules that tend to adverse skin conditions. Switch skim milk with almond milk instead.
3. Healthy Breakfast Cereal
While whole grains are overall slightly lower on the glycemic index (a measure of how a food affects the overall blood sugar level), many breakfast cereals that claim to be healthy are highly refined and full of added sugar. This leads to wrinkle-inducing glucose spikes. Choose eggs or homemade oatmeal as they are relatively healthy.
Always remember what is healthy – and what is not – for your skin’s quality and we assure you will have glowing skin throughout your life! Read more

12 Interesting Baby Welcoming Traditions From Around the World
Every culture has a distinct (and sometimes unbelievable!) way of celebrating the arrival of a new life. While in India, parents shave their baby’s hair, dab honey on his tongue, pierce his ears and take him to their place of worship, new parents in other countries do things quite differently. Now that we have your curiosity piqued, let us tell you how people from different cultures welcome babies into the world and their homes.
Rituals That New Parents Do To Celebrate Their Baby’s Birth
1. Leaving the Baby to Nap Outdoors in Freezing Temperatures – Denmark & Sweden
No, Danish and Swedish mothers aren’t stone-hearted! In Denmark and Sweden, they believe that exposing a baby to the local climate - be it summer or winter - will help him sleep better and feed more. So, parents leave their baby to nap on the balcony or sidewalk and enjoy some baby-free time in stores and cafes. Some parents, in fact, have baby alarms that alert them when their newborn has woken up so that they can go outside and bring him into the house!
2. Using the Maternity Package Gift From the Government – Finland
Finland is one of the few countries where the birth of babies is acknowledged and celebrated by the government. New mothers come home from the hospital to find a ‘maternity package’ left on their doorstep. The package is basically a starter kit that contains all the essentials the newborn would need – from clothes, diapers and sheets to toys; everything is there in the box! The government initially devised the ‘maternity package’ scheme keeping low-income families in mind. But, it has been made available to all parents since 1949 so that every baby - rich or poor - can get an equal start to life. What’s best, this care package is given not just to expectant mothers, but also to adoptive parents!

3. Not Allowing the Baby’s Feet to Touch the Ground – Bali
Babies are no less than divine beings that have descended from heaven, the Balinese people believe. So, until 210 days from birth, parents don’t allow their baby’s feet to touch the ground. The little one receives the ultimate royal treatment and is not allowed to come in contact with the floor in any way. When his feet touch the ground for the first time, it’s believed that he has ‘crossed over’ to the other world and become human!
4. Giving Red-dyed Eggs as Return Gifts – China
In Chinese tradition, the birth of a baby isn’t celebrated right away. Instead, parents wait till their baby turns 1-month-old to host a 'Full Moon Ceremony'. This ceremony is attended by family and friends who come bearing gifts for the newborn and his parents. However, they don’t return empty-handed - the new parents give their guests red-dyed eggs in return. There are three reasons for this – red is believed to be a sign of happiness, the oval shape is symbolic of longevity, and the egg represents the changing process of life.

5. Burying the Placenta and Umbilical Cord – Jamaica
In Jamaica, the mother’s placenta (also known as afterbirth) and the baby’s umbilical cord are buried at a specific location in the house. Later, a tree is planted at that spot. The parents care for the tree until their baby grows up and starts tending to the tree by himself. This tradition is meant to teach the child to take responsibility in life.
6. Rocking the Baby in a Large Sieve – Egypt
Egyptian culture formally acknowledges babies only after they are a week old. On the 7th day of a baby’s life, his parents host a naming ceremony called Sebou. The baby is clothed in white robes and placed in a large sieve. Then, he is gently rocked back and forth. The Egyptians believe that doing this gets the baby accustomed to the vagaries of life. Next, he is laid on a blanket on the floor with a knife placed along his chest. The mother side-steps seven times over her baby to ward off evil spirits, as the guests sing and shower the baby with grains, gifts and gold. They also light several candles and assign different names to them. The candle that burns the longest will decide the baby’s name.

7. Symbolic Items Choosing Ceremony – Armenia
No parent wants to miss the chance to get a sneak peek into their child’s future. When an Armenian baby gets his first tooth, a ceremony called Agra Hadig takes place. Parents place their baby on the floor and surround him with a stethoscope, a tape measure, a screwdriver, a book and other symbolic objects. He is then encouraged to crawl towards the items and reach out to one of them. The object grabbed by the little one is believed to symbolise his future. For example, while a stethoscope is associated with medicine, a tape measure is associated with construction. Whether to take it seriously or not is up to the parents.
8. Full Body Exfoliation and Hot Stone Massage for New Moms – Malaysia
After birth, the person a baby needs most is his mother. Malaysian traditions recognise this and take efforts to help the new mom relax and recuperate from childbirth. For 44 days following the baby’s birth, a Malay mom undergoes a pantang (confinement) when she does nothing apart from nursing her baby. She is also given hot stone massages and a full body exfoliation treatment which soften and lighten her skin, thus preserving her health and femininity. New moms are forbidden from lifting heavy things, and the household chores fall to the father, relatives or a hired domestic help.
9. Giving the Baby Twenty Names – Nigeria
Babies born in Nigeria are blessed with certain elements on the seventh day (for a baby girl) and ninth day (for a baby boy) of their birth. The infant’s lips are brushed with water, palm oil, bitter kola and salt and pepper. This is believed to ward off enemies and help the baby have a smooth and long life filled with happiness. Apart from the name chosen by the parent, the baby is given 20 other names that describe the circumstances of his birth. For example, if he has twin siblings, he would get the name Idowu, which means ‘child born after twins’. Often, parents come up with pet names like Ayoke, which means ‘one who is blessed’. Guests are also invited to name the baby, before which they have to place money in a basket. And that’s how Nigerian babies carry twenty names throughout their lives!
10. Souvenir Basket for Visitors – Brazil
In Brazil, celebration begins in full swing even before the baby is born! Expecting moms prepare souvenir baskets which are later given to those who visit the mother and baby after delivery. The baskets usually contain candies, fridge magnets, customised notepads and even tiny bottles of perfume with the baby’s name on them. There’s also a message thanking the person for visiting. Such a sweet gesture, don’t you think?
[caption id="attachment_249201" align="aligncenter" width="350"] Source: Pinterest[/caption]
11. Shoving the Baby Into Chilled Water – Guatemala
In tropical countries like Guatemala, people believe that an ice bath does wonders for the baby. Hence, every new mom soaks her infant in chilly water and turns a blind eye if he starts crying. A popular belief among the Mayans is that the baby sleeps soundly after an ice bath. We don’t know whether that’s true, but old midwives say that it cures the baby’s heat rash.
12. Slaughtering a Sheep – Islamic countries
In Islamic culture, the birth of a baby is celebrated by sacrificing an animal such as a goat or sheep. This is called Aqiqah and believed to be an important ritual. Some families themselves slaughter the sacrificial animal while others bring home meat and cook up a feast. Once the food is prepared, it is divided into three portions – one for the immediate family, one for relatives and friends and one for the poor.

A. Do consult your doctor as soon as you can. It's important to find the real reason because without that, proper medication is not possible.

A. usually fixed. better to show to specialist always as they get the correct diagnosis. try to avoid self and extra medication that will only complicate this and create more damage to the child

A. You should have started going from the very beginning itself once you get to know you’re pregnant but since you haven’t reached that now if you’re pregnancy has been healthy last five months please get it checked with your doctor also if you need to start with any supplements or diet the doctor would advise you after a ultrasound so please visit your gynaecologist
