These 10 Habits are What Helped me Keep my Breastmilk Supply Constant
As a new mom it is natural to feel overwhelmed about things. Learning how to
breastfeed and finding the rhythm with your new born is the important. When you're a
first-time mom, the first four to six weeks of breastfeeding are crucial for success.
Many new moms worry whether they are making enough milk. Truth is most new
mothers make as sufficient breast milk, but these few techniques can help a new mom
maintain a healthy breast milk supply.
Establish your Breastfeeding Technique and Keep Breastfeeding Constantly
And try these simple steps before going for supplements or medication.
Ensure correct latch
A proper latch is the mandatory. It is often due to an unsatisfactory latch that
breastfeeding mothers don't produce as much breast milk as they should.
In case you are not sure if the latch is proper talk to a lactation consultant.
Breast Feed more
A new mother’s body produces milk based on the laws of supply and demand. By
feeding your baby at regular intervals you are telling your body to keep up the supply.
Try feeding the baby every two to three hours. If baby is sleeping for more than 3 hours, then try waking and nursing.
Breast compression
Breast compression helps remove more breast milk when you are using a breast pump.
If your baby tends to fall asleep really soon while nursing, breast compression may help.
Establish a Supplemental nursing system
If your baby gets frustrated while sucking because the flow is less, then feeding them
previously expressed milk may help them learn to suck for longer. I used the Philips
Avent Electric Breast Pump to express breast milk in between direct nursing sessions
When you simulate your breasts in between feeding sessions by pumping milk using a
breast pump, it helps increase the supply.
Using the Philips Avent Electric Breast Pump also helped me establish a
supplemental nursing system. My family members could feed my son the expressed
milk pumped using my Philips Avent Electric Breast Pump.
You can use either an Electric breast pump or a Manual Breast Pump to express. It is
also helps working moms continue their breast feeding journey.
As a working mother, I joined back work after 3 months of Maternity
leave. By establishing a pumping and expressed milk feeding routine I
was able to continue my breast feeding journey even while working
full time.
Simulating and warming your breasts before pumping can help you feel more
comfortable. Use either an Electric or a Manual breast pump, like the Philips Avent
Electric Breast Pump or the Philips Avent Manual Breast Pump to express milk.
Lifestyle changes
Stress, fatigue or consumption of too much caffeine can hinder supply. Make simple
lifestyle changes.
Feed from both sides
Remember to try and alternate the breast you start breast feeding with at each session.
Skin to Skin
Skin to skin contact helps the new born and the mother form a special warm bond. Put
your baby on your chest and cover with a blanket. This is called Kangaroo care.
Eat a well-balanced meal & drink enough fluids
Fuel your body with healthy meals and avoid processed foods like oatmeal, green leafy
vegetables, almonds etc. There are few foods & supplements which may help. Always consult your doctor before trying any of these.
Garlic
Fenugreek
Fennel
Ginger
Spirulina
Believe in yourself & your Baby
Most new moms make more than enough breast milk. If you are breastfeeding regularly
and your baby is showing signs of being well fed, you are doing just fine.
Try not be overwhelmed though that is a natural sentiment for a new mom. If you have doubts talk to a doctor, lactation consultant or a breast feeding support group.
Lastly remember that "Fed is best" as long as your baby is well fed and getting required nourishment, it’s all fine.

7 Ways Your Husband Irritates You After You Have a Baby Without Even Meaning To!
During and after pregnancy, a woman's body goes through several changes. Weight gain, morning sickness, weird movements in the tummy, cranky mood swings and fluctuating hormones - everything is almost all over the place. This is an experience of its own kind, which only women are blessed to experience. However, after the baby comes into this world, several things change - your relationship with your husband for instance.
You might not realise but your husband's actions which at one point you perhaps found flattering, might just start to get on your nerves. He might be the loveliest and the most supportive partner you could find; however, there will be little things you simply will not be able to overlook. And the most ironical part is that your husband may have no intentions of irritating you at all!
7 Things Husbands do to Irritate you after the Little one arrives
Here are 7 of those things about your husband that may irritate you after your bub arrives in your life!
1. Not Much Seems To Have Changed In His Life
With pregnancy come tons of changes. You give up things you like and adapt to things you aren't particularly fond of. 'Can I eat this, or will it be harmful for my baby' is the question you always end up asking yourself before eating anything. You might have had to cut down on those 4 mugs of black coffee, but that doesn't seem to be the case with your husband. He still gets to drink what he wants and eat what he wishes to! Even after the baby arrives, there are restrictions you may need to abide by but he doesn't. Not much has changed for him, has it?
2. His Body Doesn't Bear The Consequences of Pregnancy
Let's face it, perhaps the only physical involvement your partner has during your pregnancy is when you both had to make the baby! Post that it’s a woman's body that has to undergo the morning sickness and bloating and labour pain. However, this doesn't just last for 9 months. Post childbirth too, you may have to deal with bleeding, soreness, stitches and leakage. But your husband's body remains completely unaffected by this whole experience. It isn't his fault, but you just sometimes wish he would understand and feel what's it like, isn't it?
3. He Still Thinks Things Are Just The Same As Before
'Honey, what's for dinner' is the question you completely despise now! 24 hours in a day isn't enough for you to complete a day's task and you probably have not even had the time to shower before evening, but for your husband it was just a normal day at work and now he simply looks forward to coming home to the food cooked by you. You might have had to take a break from work to look after the baby and manage schedules and your days are just not the same. However, some husbands tend to be completely oblivious to that fact. And the only 'me' time you get is when you lie down on your bed at night. All that you might want to do is crash, but your hubby might have different plans. Extremely irritating, right?
4. His Work Is Noticed By All And Yours Isn't
You know what they say about a mother's job being a thankless one? Guess what, you are living the saying. They don't call a mom supermom for no reason. From changing, bathing and feeding your baby to cleaning cooking and shopping - you manage to do it all. But when it comes to recognition, your husband takes the cake. You may have left your 6 figure paying job to look after the home and baby, but sadly, there is no one to take notice or appreciate your efforts. On the other hand, for your husband, promotions and recognition come hand in hand. Also, most of the times when he comes home, your hard work of keeping the place together in one place (quite literally) simply goes unappreciated by him. It could get disheartening and irking!
5. His Contribution To Baby Work Seems Like a Huge Deal
Ever noticed how baby and house chores you do seem completely normal, but the moment your husband does them, it seems like he has conquered a milestone? For example, if at a party your husband decides to change your baby's nappies instead of you, people around would completely be in awe and applauding his efforts, but isn't parenting team work anyway? A statement like 'you are so lucky to have a husband like that' should make you feel wonderful but ends up irritating you. No one will tell him how lucky he is to have a wife who sacrifices her sleep, gets up multiple times in the night to change the baby's nappy and literally works like a machine.
6. He Is Usually Present For Your Baby's Highlight Moments
Almost every mother would vouch for the fact that husbands tend to experience the best of their baby's moments and enjoy it to the fullest, while moms get to experience it ALL. Because your hubby is unable to spend less time at home, he actually gets to enjoy his time with the baby better. He will be involved in playing, evening strolls and cute little nothings. But he doesn't get to experience the constant pooping and nappy changing sessions and other related exhausting tasks. Once again, probably not his fault, but you do envy him.
7. He Gets To Enjoy Sleep While Insomnia Becomes Your Buddy
As trivial as this may sound, it is absolutely true. After a baby, it's quite likely that you will forget what a peaceful night or a lazy Sunday morning actually feels like. When you get up in the middle of the night hearing the cry of your baby and find your hubby snoring next to you, it simply makes your blood boil. Even if he offers to help, it doesn't take away the lack of sleep you've been experiencing for weeks and months.
All these emotions might seem extremely negative but almost all moms do experience them. And it is completely alright to have these bouts of irritation. What isn't okay is to let these emotions take control of you. There is always a flipside to the story, and that is the fact that you will appreciate and cherish the beautiful life you both have created together. And in the end, that's all that matters. 14 Solutions for Your Underweight Toddler
There are plenty of reasons why some children are underweight. Genetics, changes in growth, or sometimes an increase in height that precedes weight gain are some of the causes of an underweight toddler. Of course, there are a number of solutions to put an end to this mother’s dilemma.
As a parent, you are bound to be concerned about your child’s eating habits and his growth and development. And chances are, you're a tad anxious to know whether or not he is meeting his developmental milestones. Many toddlers are extremely fussy when it comes to eating healthy food and an unbalanced diet leads to underweight babies.
If your child is underweight, he might not be getting enough calories required for his age. At this stage, he should be eating nutritious food to get his growth and development back on track.
WATCH: Weight Gain Tips for Babies by Dr Varsha Saxena
https://youtu.be/8aM7dgPwWoc
KEY TAKEAWAY:
Know when a child is considered underweight and what you can do to help him gain weight:
A child is underweight if his weight is less than a 3rd percentile of the weight on the growth chart.
Give your child a high-protein diet which includes eggs, meat, soy-proteins, and nuts.
Include foods rich in carbohydrates in his diet, like whole wheat bread, pasta, and chapatis.
High-calorie fruits, like bananas and mangoes, can also be given to children. You can give high-calorie supplementary drinks to picky eaters.
As the child grows you will see an improvement in your child’s health.
6 Solutions to Help Toddler Gain Weight in A Healthy Way
Here are simple solutions that you can use to help your toddler gain weight.
1. Create A Relaxed Atmosphere for Eating
Most often kids get distracted by television, phone calls, or the computer when eating. When there are too many distractions, you yourself might feel rushed, which also puts a pressure on your baby to eat. Sometimes your child also refuses to eat in such a situation. Creating a peaceful atmosphere helps you and your child concentrate on the task at hand.
2. Set A Routine for Your Child’s Meal Times
Maintaining an organised routine for meal times is imperative for your child to fall into a regular eating pattern. Monitoring the clock and feeding him at regular intervals will help his weight gain. If that means pulling your child away from play time, so be it. Don’t give meals a miss even when you have to go out. Carry light snacks with you so you can feed your children at their allotted time.
3. Increase The Intake of Calories
Some children eat very small quantities. So when increasing the amount of food doesn’t seem like it’s going to help, it’s best to introduce high-calorie foods for toddlers weight gain. This'll ensure that your toddler is getting the right amount of nutrition. Include foods like full-fat dairy products, cream cheese, mayonnaise or puddings made from milk.
4. Try Weight Gain Supplements for Children
It might be a good idea to include some weight gain supplements in your child's diet for underweight children, especially if your child has a small appetite. Vitamin supplements should include vitamins A, C, and D and they should be specially formulated for their age group.
5. Try and Make It Easy for Your Child to Eat
Knowing what your child loves and how he loves to eat it is as important as determining the right kind of food for an underweight toddler. If he likes his banana smashed, feed it to him that way. Peel and cut up fruits or mash his food so that it’s easier for him to eat. Serve him his favourite dishes too so that your child looks forward to his meal time.
6. Offer Snacks but Healthy Ones
Snacks form an important part of toddlers’ diet. Finger foods are loved by children and when your baby picks up finger food on their own, it ensures that they are meeting their development milestones. However, be careful in offering snacks. To promote weight gain in toddlers, make healthy snacks like a granola bar, peanut butter crackers, and cereal bars. Oats are a healthy option to make snacks. You can also give your child fruit juices but abstain from those aerated drinks.
8 Foods to Help Toddlers Gain Weight
Foods play a major role in weight gain and weight loss, whether it is a child or an adult. If your toddler is underweight, try and include these foods in his diet to help him gain weight in a healthy way:
1. Potatoes
A child who doesn’t eat potatoes is rare to find. Potatoes are the best option that promote weight gain in babies. Carbohydrates intake is necessary for the weight gain process and potatoes are the optimum source of carbohydrates. Potatoes also contain amino acids which encourage weight gain in babies. Apart from potatoes, you can also include other starchy vegetables in your baby’s diet.
2. Olive Oil
All of us are aware of the benefits of eating olive oil. It is rich in monounsaturated fatty acids which makes it a healthy addition to your diet. It is also rich in antioxidants and high in calories. Add olive oil to your toddler’s salads and in other healthy recipes.
3. Bananas
Bananas also top the list of healthy foods for weight gain. Bananas are easily available and you don’t need to make something out of it. Being rich in carbohydrates they make the process of gaining weight simpler in babies. All you have to do it peel a banana and give it your toddler while he is busy watching his favourite cartoon show. To make it more appealing add it to yoghurt or curd, mix some other fruits to and give it in the form of pudding.
4. Nuts
Nuts are favourite among children. All they have to do is grab some and munch while they play. Nuts like almonds, walnuts, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, and sesame seeds are rich in fats, protein, and fibre. Include these nuts in their diet every day. You can also give them badam halwa, or give milkshake garnished with these nuts.
5. Eggs
Eggs again are a good source of protein and contain vitamin A and Vitamin B12. Eggs can be included in a baby’s diet by the age of 8-9 months. There are umpteen ways to give eggs to your baby; you can give him omelette, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, egg sandwich and so on. Make it look interesting so that your baby won’t deny eating it.
6. Jaggery
Jaggery also helps in weight gain in toddlers. Jaggery is better than refined sugar and is rich in calories. It is also abundantly available in India, so use it in generous amounts in your baby’s diet plan.
7. Avocados
Avocados are a rich source of vegetarian fat. Avocado is full of calories, carbohydrates, protein, and fats, almost everything that fosters weight gain. It is a buttery fat and can be used to make dips, salads, and mashes. And rest assured because kids will love all these recipes.
8. Fruits
Fruits and vegetables are the best foods for healthy weight gain. Include mangoes, papaya, pineapple, and steamed vegetables in your baby’s diet. You can also add butter to steamed vegetables freely. If your child is refusing to eat fruits, you can whip up a fruit salad and add nuts to it. Toddlers love colours and they will eat it without fussing.
Weight loss is not always a sign of an underlying medical condition. To get your child to eat it's important to make eating easy and enjoyable for them. Try these weight gain recipes for an underweight toddler for positive results. Take note: if you obsess over your own weight and keep counting those calories, your child will quickly pick up on this, which could easily affect his or her own eating pattern! Read more

Thrombocytopenia (Low Platelet Count) During Pregnancy
A pregnant woman may face various medical challenges during her pregnancy and one such challenge is a low platelet count or Thrombocytopenia. Pregnant women go through many physical and emotional changes during pregnancy and these severe pathological changes in the body may result in conditions such as thrombocytopenia.
What is Thrombocytopenia
Platelets are responsible for blood clotting and play a significant role during pregnancy as well. The average or normal platelet count of a non-pregnant woman may range between 150,000 and 400,000 per microlitre of blood. The platelet count of a woman may drop to 116,000 per microlitre of blood during pregnancy. However, if it is less than 116,000, the condition is known as thrombocytopenia.
If there is only a slight drop in your platelet count, it is not a matter of great concern as it may not cause any medical complication for you or your baby. Though, your platelet count will be monitored closely by your doctor or midwife to see if there is a further drop. However, extreme drop in your platelet count may cause serious problems and therefore will require immediate medical help.
How Common is Thrombocytopenia during Pregnancy
Thrombocytopenia or low platelet count during pregnancy is the second most common blood disorder after anaemia. It is observed that nearly 5 to 8 percent women may get diagnosed with a low platelet count during their pregnancy. Not all cases of thrombocytopenia may cause serious complication in pregnancy or childbirth, but it is better to prepare yourself to face any complications that may arise with this condition.
What Causes Low Platelets Count during Pregnancy
Following are some of the causes of low platelet count in pregnancy:
High Blood Pressure or Preeclampsia: When your blood pressure reaches alarming levels in pregnancy it puts you and your child at risk. The risk involves damage to the organs of both mother and her unborn child. This condition may also cause low platelet count in a pregnant woman.
Heparin-Induced Thrombocytopenia: Heparin is a medicine used to treat abnormal blood clotting. Sometimes the use of this medicine may result in low platelet count and this kind of thrombocytopenia is called Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia.
HELLP-Haemolysis of Red Blood Cells Elevated Liver Enzymes and Low Platelets: This medical condition results from high blood pressure which may cause severe damage to the liver. The damage to the liver leads to platelet to drop resulting in thrombocytopenia.
ITP or Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura: This is an immune-mediated disorder which leads to a decrease in the platelet count of the body. In a primary ITP, the exact cause of immune destruction cannot be established, whereas the reason for immune destruction in secondary ITP may be caused because of Hepatitis C or SLE.
Medicine Induced: There are many medicines that may hamper the platelet production. Some common drugs that may be used in pregnancy, such as, ibuprofen, paracetamol etc can affect the platelet formation in the body, resulting in thrombocytopenia.
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE): This is an autoimmune disorder in which the body attacks itself. Pregnancy may elevate the chances of SLE by forming antibodies that destroy various organs. It may target bone marrow, which is responsible for platelet formation. The affected bone marrow may cause low platelet count.
Cancer: A pregnant woman may be affected with Myelodysplastic syndromes and lymphoproliferative syndromes. These are the common types of cancers that may affect a pregnant woman resulting in low platelet count.
DIC Or Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation: This disease can be caused due to various pregnancy-related medical conditions. This condition may cause widespread clotting in the body. The clotting may result in low platelet count.
Aplastic anaemia: This blood disorder in pregnancy may result in complete destruction of the red bone marrow resulting in low platelet count.
HIV/AIDS: HIV is an immune disorder that may also affect a pregnant woman. This infection causes destruction in the bone marrow. When HIV causes destruction in the bone marrow, it results in low platelet count.
What Happen if You Have Thrombocytopenia
If you have thrombocytopenia before pregnancy, there is a fair chance that it is caused due to some existing condition or medication that you may be taking. This condition can be determined through an early pregnancy test as there is no specific diagnostic test to determine the cause of low platelet count in the body. Your doctor will monitor your condition regularly to check for any symptom of the underlying cause or to check any further decline in the platelet count.
If the low platelet count is established in the later stages of pregnancy, then it may due to various reasons such as preeclampsia or HELLP syndrome. You will be treated according to the symptoms of your condition.
In case of gestational thrombocytopenia, you are unlikely to require any treatment. However, your doctor may keep a constant tab of your health.
Risks of Low Platelet Count during Pregnancy
The major risk associated with low platelet count in pregnancy is the increased risk of bleeding during the childbirth or post that. There is an increased blood supply to the uterus during pregnancy and the surgical procedure requires cutting of major blood vessels. Women with thrombocytopenia are at increased risk of losing excessive blood. The risk is more in case of caesarean delivery as compared to vaginal delivery.
If a woman with thrombocytopenia requests for an epidural then she may be at a risk of spinal epidural hematoma, a condition which can be caused by an accidental puncture in the spine. This condition may lead to permanent paralysis also.
Treatment for Pregnancy Low Platelet Count
The treatment for low platelet count in pregnancy depends on the severity of your condition. Milder conditions usually do not require any medical intervention but may require constant monitoring by your doctor. However, the severe cases will require a proper treatment. The treatment will involve treating the medical condition (preeclampsia, HHELP, SLE etc) which is causing the platelets to drop.
How to Increase Low Platelet Count Naturally
You may increase your low platelet count by following natural methods:
By including beetroot in your diet.
By including fish and meat in your diet.
By consuming astragalus (herb).
By adding zinc supplements
By consuming vitamin B-12, generally found in meat
By consuming Vitamin K, generally found in green leafy vegetables
By consuming chlorophyll
By consuming Vitamin C rich food ( citrus fruits )
By avoiding alcohol and refined sugar
Though consuming foods that may help increase your platelet count may seem like a good idea, but it is recommended to seek your doctor’s advice before making any dietary changes.
Though most cases of thrombocytopenia do not pose a serious threat to you or your unborn child, however, if you have been diagnosed with this condition, it is important that you get the apt treatment for the same. Timely detection and treatment of your condition will reduce the chances of complications.

Post-Nooky Snuggle Sessions Essential to Strengthen Relationships
Sexual relationships and compatibility quotients can be greatly heightened by indulging in cuddling after sex. It aids the release of the hormone oxytocin that makes you feel good. The next time you're making love, indulge in a little snuggling and see the bond between you and hubby strengthen.
According to experts, post-nooky snuggling is a good way of improving your relationship. If your hubby’s the type of person who prefers to sleep after sex, you have a good reason to keep him awake! Find out how and why snuggling after lovemaking can help.
Post Coital Cuddle and Why You Should Do it
1. What Do Studies Say?
According to a study in the Archives of Sexual Behaviour, “kissing, caressing, and loving talk” post-intercourse, are all linked to healthier relationships. It’s said that the bonding hormone oxytocin is probably what drives this phenomenon. It’s no wonder then that oxytocin is often referred to as the love hormone. In fact, it’s released as an after-effect of getting intimate and is known to increase attachment.
2. Communicating Nonverbally is Important
What is post coital closeness? What does it do for you and yours? Post coital refers to after sex and the closeness you share whether for minutes, half an hour or more impacts your marital bond. If you’re looking for the best ways to strengthen your relationship post-sex, don’t get up and get going; remain physically close to him to encourage nonverbal communication. Along with helping you relax and even inhibiting lingering sensations of pain, this closeness helps in reinforcing that you’re totally committed to your partner.
3. Cuddling Equals Sex Satisfaction
It’s not just a better emotional connection that you build by cuddling after sex. In a study conducted by the University of Toronto Mississauga, people who insist on snuggling post-sex reported higher satisfaction with their sex lives. It’s not only because of all the lovemaking, but also because they took time out to get closer on another level.
4. It Improves Your Immune System
Oxytocin in women and men goes beyond being a love hormone; it’s also responsible for boosting your immune system. Along with giving you a feel good factor that promotes better health, you could also be less irritable and all geared up to enjoy lovemaking all over again. So, in a way, if you happen to be frequently sick, maybe there isn’t enough cuddling in your life!
5. Post Coital Cuddle Lowers The Risks of Cardiac Diseases
When talking about how cuddling lowers the risk of heart diseases, we refer to all those factors that directly or indirectly contribute to causing heart problems. Think stress, anxiety, high blood pressure–things that we’re so used to but are indicators of poor health. Since more cuddling makes you happy, you could begin dealing with the issues in your life in a more positive way. Nervous about an upcoming presentation? Make love and snuggle. Having financial troubles? Make love and snuggle. It may not bring you money but it sure will lift your mood.
Post-nooky cuddling sessions are indeed essential, especially if you’re looking towards strengthening your relationship and having satisfying sexual experiences. Remember, the physical effects of cuddling can be amazing and the emotional benefits even more so. The next time you’re feeling stressed out, just go ahead and snuggle! Read more

A. Nasal blockage is very common, specially in small children because of the narrow nasal cavity. Any kind of saline drops like nasal clear will be helpful in dissolving the stuffy secretions, which can be taken out by vnasal aspirator gently also steam inhalation will be helpful also, try to avoid keeping the child directly under the fan.
