10 Home Remedies for Stomach Pain in Toddlers
Kids have stomach pain every now and then. This is because they tend to eat anything and at any time. But there are several other reasons which may lead to stomach ache in toddlers. However, the good thing is that it can be treated with some simple home remedies. There are many effective natural remedies for stomach ache that can provide relief to your tot in no time.
Natural Remedies for Stomach Ache in Toddlers
If you have experienced sleepless nights because your child complains of tummy pain, then don’t worry. Here are some remedies for stomach pain in toddlers. These remedies will cure his stomach pain and soon he will feel better.
1. Keep your child hydrated.
Offer any unsweetened form of tea like mint or ginger ale tea to your child to keep him hydrated. This will soothe the aching nerves of his stomach and help lower his stomach pain. Avoid giving him dairy products or fried/oily products until he feels better. You can give him toast or oatmeal when he feels hungry. If his stomach pain is accompanied by vomiting, do not feed him any solids; let him be on a liquid diet until the pain subsides.
2. Try warm compress.
One of the safest and the most effective remedies for stomach ache is warm compress. The best thing about warm compress is that it does not have any side effects and it provides quick relief. If you are using a heating pad, select the lowest level of heat and keep it on your child’s abdomen. But don’t place it directly. If you don’t have a heating pad, use a bottle filled with warm water; wrap it in a cloth and your warm compress is ready. Make sure that the heating pad or the water bottle you use is warm and NOT hot. You don’t want to hurt your child. Warm compress is very effective. The heat will relax his muscles and provide relief from stomach pain.
3. Apply asafoetida paste.
Asafoetida or hing is also an effective remedy for stomach pain in toddlers. It eases stomach pain by aiding the release of gases from the body. Mix some hing powder in water to make a paste and apply it around the child’s belly button. Ensure that he is lying in a horizontal position while you do so to make sure that the paste does not enter the navel. Mixing hing powder with olive oil and massaging the baby’s abdominal area with it for some time can also provide him with quick relief.
4. Make him eat yoghurt and other probiotic foods.
Probiotic foods are also known to help soothe stomach pain. For example, yoghurt, which has probiotics in it, can provide relief from diarrhoea and cramps. Herbal teas can are also known to soothe tummy aches in toddlers. Grate some ginger and let it soak in warm water for some time. Then strain and give it to your child if he is two years or above. If he is below two years of age, you can apply ginger juice around his navel area. You can also give him a cup of tea with a few mint leaves and a few drops of lemon juice in it, as it helps ease stomach pain. Mint can help remove harmful bacteria from the gut while lemon can help with constipation. However, before giving herbal teas to your child, do consult with a doctor.
6. Give him honey.
Honey is a good source of carbohydrates, sugars, and antioxidants. It can be given to babies by adding it in herbal teas or in warm water. Kids also love eating it simply. However, do not feed honey to your child if he is younger than 2 years.
7. Massage him gently.
The aching nerves and muscles of the stomach area can be relieved by enhancing the blood circulation around it and this can be easily achieved by giving a gentle massage. Using your palms and fingers, gently massage in circular motions in the clockwise direction around the navel area of your child. Massaging from the chin downwards to the lower portion of the abdomen can also provide relief.
8. Try foot reflexology.
There are many nerves in our hands and feet which when pressed lightly can have a therapeutic effect on the specific areas of the body. Hold your child’s left foot with the palm of your right hand. With your left hand under the ball of his foot, apply a steady pressure using your thumb. Apply pressure on the central arch of his left foot for a minute and repeat this 4-5 times. Do this before the meal time for an immediate effect.
9. Get him moving.
Although it is not a home remedy, it can help. Any action that can help in stimulating the gastrointestinal tract is recommended if your child complains of a stomach ache. Moderate activities like walking and running without any twisting or turning can provide relief to your little one’s stomach.
10. Try the BRAT diet.
If you are parents to a toddler, you must be aware of the BRAT diet. However, if you aren’t, then find out what it is, because it can provide relief from an upset stomach. Bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast (BRAT) diet can provide your kiddo much relief if he has diarrhoea. These foods do not contain any spices, hence won’t aggravate the condition. Furthermore, this bland diet is perfect for kids when they are sick and want something to eat that agrees with their taste buds.
How to Prevent Stomach Ache in Toddlers
If your child constantly complains of stomach pain, you should not ignore it. There must be something wrong in his diet and you need to remedy it. Here are some tips that you can follow to prevent this problem.
If your child has a stomach ache because of constipation, include fibrous foods in his diet.
Do not overfeed your child. Instead of giving him three big meals, let him have small frequent meals.

Don’t make him eat before bedtime as it could lead to indigestion.

The 3 Stages Of Prenatal Development
For most of us, a child starts growing after he gets a few months old and we can see the changes in our own eyes. But, the prenatal phase is also an important portion of a child’s development. It pretty much lays down the very foundation of the child’s mental growth, as the brain continues to grow throughout the childhood, too.
Prenatal Baby Development Stages
The prenatal period stages are divided into three major ones. These are the most important prenatal stages of human development for a baby.
1. Germinal Stage
This is where the conception takes place. The sperm of the father and the egg of the mother combine together, inside a fallopian tube of the mother. This egg then gets fertilized and is termed as the zygote. It journeys gradually towards the uterus, taking over a week’s time to reach there, and then the process of growth begins. The cells divide due to mitosis and the first steps of the baby’s formation begin.
The cells present in the inner section lead to the formation of the embryo, while the cells in the outer section develop to form the placenta. This division continues and forms a blastocyst, which in itself, is made up of three portions.
The cells which develop to form the nervous system and the skin of the baby are termed as ectoderm. The cells which develop to form the respiratory and digestive systems for the baby are called endoderm. The other cells are called mesoderm, and they form the skeletal and muscular systems. This blastocyst then attaches itself to the wall of the uterus, during implantation.
A successful implantation interrupts the menstrual cycle in the woman, which leads one to check if they are pregnant or not.
2. Embryonic Stage
The cells that have grown until know, together constitute the embryo. This growth keeps happening until the entire mass of cells now starts resembling a vague shape of a human being. This is also where the first steps of the brain’s development begin.
Primarily, the formation of a neural tube takes place first. Multiple ridges start forming along the neural plate which leads to the creation of a hollow tube-like structure. This later develops into the creation of the spinal cord and the brain. The tube closes and brain cells start developing inside, forming the foremost, middle, and rear sections of the brain.
The head also begins to form rapidly as the first signs of facial features start showing themselves. A single blood vessel that later grows to become the heart starts pulsating lightly.
This is then followed by formation of the limbs, roughly around 5 weeks into pregnancy. By 8 weeks, the embryo has nearly most of the basic organs a human being needs to function, but its gender still remains undetermined. Neural networks begin to form around 6 weeks as neurons first start appearing and move to different areas of the brain to form the connections.
3. Foetal Stage
Around the completion of 9 weeks of pregnancy, the growth of the embryo finally reaches a stage where it then is referred to as, a foetus.
The growth from here on continues right until delivery of the baby. The body systems continue developing and strengthening within the baby. Neural networks and synapses begin to develop with brain development at an all-time high. Gradually, the foetus starts making movements using its limbs, too.
On completion of 3 months of pregnancy, the genitals begin to form properly and by the end, all organs have developed fully. The height and weight of the foetus keep increasing throughout.
As the second trimester of the pregnancy begins, the heart gets stronger and one can hear the baby’s heartbeats clearly. Smaller features such as hair, eyelashes, nails, start appearing on the baby. In this trimester, the growth of the foetus is rather exponential and becomes nearly six times larger than before.
Throughout this period, the development of a brain takes place rapidly and the nervous system begins to respond to the growth of the foetus. In 28 weeks of pregnancy, the brain activity resembles that of a sleeping baby. Following this until birth, the baby keeps growing and the lungs start to expand and contract, preparing the body to breathe after birth.
Common Problems During Prenatal Development
The foetal period of prenatal development is of intense growth and, hence, is very sensitive to other conditions. There are the general problems one might observe during this stage.
1. Genetic Problems
As the baby grows, there are chances of some abnormal formations or development issues in the physical aspects of the child, across multiple organs. It could be due to a genetic mutation, gene damage, abnormality of chromosomes, and so on. This could descend primarily from the parents. However, certain cases have shown that these could arise by themselves during the prenatal stage.
These abnormalities could range from being dismissively minor to absolutely fatal. Chances of miscarriage at this stage are roughly 10-15%, mostly caused by these abnormalities.
The age of the mother plays a pivotal role in these situations. Younger mothers tend to have healthier kids. For mothers over 35 to 40 years of age, their kids are highly susceptible to Down’s syndrome, as well as other pregnancy-related complications.
Presence of any illnesses or diseases in the mother plays yet another factor in hampering prenatal development. An HIV positive mother can pass the virus to her child. Other viruses such as rubella, result in the baby having a defective heart or being born deaf.

Due to advances in medical sciences, most premature babies can stay alive and catch up with the development after birth, too. Here are some of the risks in the prenatal period that need attention.
Malnutrition: Nutrition and a balanced diet are of prime importance in the prenatal period, since the growth of the baby is at an all-time high. Any reduction in the nutrition of the mother affects the infant as well. This leads to the formation of a foetus that is small in size, which also affects the development of various body organs and immune systems as well as nervous systems.
Pollutants: Exposure to various environmental pollutants can also mean problems for the foetus. Certain pesticides or aerosols can contain chemicals that harm the natural growth of the infant.
Marijuana: Marijuana can be used for therapeutic purposes as recommended by some doctors in certain areas or for recreational purposes. Marijuana, however, stays inside the fat cells of the body after consumption, for approximately a month. If it is still present during conception or is consumed in the initial stages of prenatal development, it can affect the growth cycle of the baby.
Alcohol: All mothers are strongly advised to ditch the bottle prior to pregnancy itself. And during pregnancy, consumption of any kind of alcohol is highly forbidden. If a mother ends up consuming alcohol while being pregnant, it can result in a fetal alcohol syndrome. This is an array of birth-related complication and defects in the baby. The infant could end up being retarded and have extremely low body weight. Their facial features can be ill-formed, such as having a flat nose, extremely wide eyes, no philtrum present on the upper lip or extremely thin lips.

When any problems or issues occur, it is important to understand the reason behind its occurrence and what actions can be taken. Preventive measures are always better than actions to counter the problems already afflicted.
Even after birth, the infant continues to develop and grow, and it is important that they are not exposed to any of the factors even then. The brain development is still taking place and it is important for that to continue unabated without any issues, to have a child that is strong, independent, and healthy like his peers.

१. एक छोटा चम्मच नारियल के तेल में एक चुटकी हल्दी पाउडर और २-३ बूंद नींबू के रस को मिलाकर इस मिश्रण को चेहरे पर लगाएं और १० मिनट तक उचित रूप से मसाज करें । आधे घंटे बाद चेहरा पानी से धो लें । चेहरे के दाग-धब्बे मिटाने के लिए ये उपाय करें ।
२. एक बड़ी कटोरी में ८-१० गुलाब की पत्तियों को पीसकर २-३ बूंद गुलाब जल और आधा छोटा चम्मच दूध डालकर अच्छी तरह से मिला लें । इस मिश्रण को चेहरे पर लगाएं और १० मिनट बाद या हल्का सा सूखने पर धीरे धीरे रगड़ते हुए पानी से धो लें। । इससे चेहरा साफ और निखरा हुआ नजर आता है ।
३. त्वचा तेलीय हो तो एक चम्मच मुलतानी मिट्टी को पानी में भिगो दें । इसमें आधा छोटा चम्मच हल्दी पाउडर और थोड़ा सा दूध मिलाकर चेहरे पर लगाएं । यह सूखने पर पानी से धो लें । त्वचा एकदम निखर जाएगी ।
४. कच्चे पपीते को थोड़ा सा कीस लें और एक चम्मच इस किसे पपीते में ३-४ बूंद गुलाब जल मिलाकर अच्छी तरह से पेस्ट बना लें और फिर इसे चेहरे पर लगाएं। । १५ मिनट बाद चेहरे को पानी से धो लें । त्वचा एकदम निखर जाएगी ।
५. एक छोटा चम्मच चोकर लेकर उसमें एक चम्मच संतरे का रस, एक चम्मच शहद एवं ५-६ बूंद गुलाब जल मिलाकर अच्छी तरह से पेस्ट बना लें और फिर इसे चेहरे पर लगाएं और सूखने पर पानी से धो लें । चेहरे पर एकदम चमक आ जाएगी ।
६. दो चम्मच बेसन , एक चुटकी हल्दी पाउडर, २-३ बूंद शहद एवं २-३ बूंद गुलाब जल मिलाकर अच्छी तरह से पेस्ट बनाएं और इसे चेहरे पर १० मिनट लगे रहने दें और त्वचा सूखने लगे तो पानी से धो लें । इससे चेहरे की धूल एवं जमें हुए किटाणु साफ हो जाते हैं और चेहरे पर निखार आता है ।
७. इसके अलावा उबले हुए आलू के छिलके भी चेहरे पर लगाकर १० मिनट बाद ही आप चेहरा पानी से धो लें । इससे भी चेहरा साफ हो जाता है ।
८. आप रसोई में काम करते समय भी नींबू के छिलके को चेहरे पर लगाएं और फिर इसे १० मिनट बाद पानी से धो लें। । इससे भी चेहरा चमक जाता है ।

Method
Step 1
In a large bowl, whisk together Greek yogurt, extra virgin olive oil and milk.
Step 2
Start with 1 cup of milk then gradually continue adding more, whisking after each addition, till the yogurt takes on a soupy consistency. You can adjust the consistency according to your preference.
Step 3
Grate the cucumbers into a separate bowl.
Step 4
Wrap the cucumbers in cheesecloth or a clean tea towel and squeeze to remove excess moisture.
Step 5
Stir the cucumbers into the yogurt along with the dill, garlic, salt and white pepper.
Step 6
Adjust seasoning to taste.
Step 7
Place in the refrigerator to chill for at least 1 hour, up to 4 hours.
Step 8
Whisk the soup once more before serving, adding milk to loosen the texture if required and adjusting seasoning as needed.
Step 9
Ladle chilled soup into bowls.

Top each serving with chopped mint or a mint sprig.
