Will Your Baby’s Teething Interfere With Breastfeeding?
Breastfeeding is a fantastic experience for your baby – it is the most delicious and nutritious food he can get! For you too, it is a great opportunity to bond with your newborn. You’re happily breastfeeding your baby and probably plan on doing it for quite some time. But hey, what happens when your baby starts teething?
Teething is a period of great discomfort for many babies, fraught with crankiness, gum inflammation, some pain and difficulty in sucking. It could even result in some unexpected biting for you! But some other babies have a relatively smooth experience and continue feeding as they actually draw comfort from it. So the answer to your nagging fear is really quite simple- whether or not breastfeeding will get affected by teething depends entirely on your baby.
What to Do If Your Teething Baby Cannot Breastfeed
Some babies may stop feeding during this time. But this is only a temporary phase referred to as a nursing strike. It is mainly caused due to the uneasy experience and pain your baby is going through because his teeth are erupting. This makes him cranky and also makes sucking tough. What you should do:
You should continue to offer your breast if you perceive the baby is hungry.
If he fails to feed, or is disinterested, just pump the milk and use a bottle or cup to feed him instead.
You should also try and soothe his discomfort by massaging his gums using your fingers.
You can also use teething rings. These are cool rings that can be really soothing for the gums.
Dealing with Biting during Feeding
This is a common problem faced by mothers when their babies nurse while teething. Your baby may suddenly get the misconception that your nipples are teethe toys! Here’s what you can do to rectify this situation:
React to the biting by giving your baby a surprised look and telling him not to do it, preferably in motherese. Babies can be quite perceptive!
Massage his gums with your fingers for a while.
Give him something else to chew and bite on, like a teething toy.
Unlatch your baby as biting may be a sign that he is now full. You can nurse again after some time.
The bottom line therefore is that teething shouldn’t really interfere with your breastfeeding experience. If you are still facing any problems, have a chat with your doctor to figure out the best solution.

Damian Name Meaning and Origin
The name Damian is predominantly a baby name for boys. This historical name is also related to the Greek goddess of fertility, Damia. In Roman mythology, she’s mostly known as Ceres. Damian can be an Americanized spelling of Hungarian Damján or Slovenian Damjan or an ornamental adoption of the Polish personal name Damian or a habitational name originating from the village of Damiany in North-Eastern Poland.
What Does Damian Mean?
Damian comes from Damianus, the Latinization of the Greek word ‘Damianos’ derived from Greek ‘damazo,’ meaning “to tame,” ‘master,’ ‘conquer,’ or ‘overcome.’ Thus, the meaning of Damian can be understood as ‘to subdue’ or to tame’ in its Greek origin. Damian has been extremely popular both in England and Ireland, even more than in Greece, where it originated. Damian is also a popular name in literature and art, which has contributed to the widespread usage of the name in different forms all across the English-speaking world.
Origin
Damian must have made its way into the English language through the French Damien during the Middle Ages. Among the earliest user of this name was the patron saint of physicians, Saint Damian, who was martyred with his twin brother Cosmas in Syria in the 4th century. Due to the fame of Saint Damian, this name came to be widely used among early Christians across Europe. Peter Damian was an 11th-century cardinal and theologian from Italy who was responsible for popularizing this name.

Supporting Your Child after Trauma
Trauma in a child may be due to several reasons including bereavement in the immediate family, a disaster that they may have witnessed personally or an accident undergone. A caregiver can support the child in such cases to help overcome such trauma.
Holding the child while her body is wracked by sobs can be as difficult for the caregiver as the experience is traumatic for the child. During such times, what children need most is a calm place where they can confront their fears and try to find the answers their minds are seeking. The aftermath of trauma may leave behind long standing repercussions, which a caregiver needs to understand and handle with patience and compassion. Bereavement in particular, especially of someone close, can be bewildering for a child and manifest in the form of feelings of abandonment and fear. As a caregiver, here are five things that will help you support your child through trauma:
1. Reverting to an Earlier Schedule
After the first few days of the event that triggered the change, try and bring the child back to her earlier routine. The comfort of the familiar will be an effective balm to soothe the uncertainty that the child must have gone through. Going back to preschool or daycare, visiting the toy library for a weekly exchange can be some of the things to begin with. This also gives her the assurance that things may go back to being the way they were before the event.
2. Reassurance
Your little one may face a lot of triggers to the trauma during the first few weeks. If it was an accident in a car, she might get scared of getting into another car; or if it was a swimming accident, she might refuse to go near the water anytime soon. At the outset, tell her that you respect her choice to not enter the water, and that she will not be forced into anything she is not comfortable with. Show her yourself that the water is safe to swim in by taking a few laps yourself. Try and rationalise the reasons why things went wrong the last time, and how have you done things differently this time. Give her the confidence that you are aware of her fear and trauma, and are willing to help overcome it. Be patient.
3. Verbalising Feelings
At times, while you have realised that the child is suffering from trauma, the child herself may not have the emotional maturity to comprehend this. Help her by verbalising it for her. You may begin by actually spelling out that you are aware she is scared of the water because of the accident she was in the last time. This helps her become aware of her own feelings and making her more receptive of what you have to offer in terms of a solution.
4. Sharing Your Own Anxieties
Secure her confidence by sharing some of your own fears and anxieties with her. For example you may tell her how you are scared of bugs or the thunder. This helps in making her aware of the fact that it's alright to feel scared about something, and more importantly to admit to one’s fears rather than keeping them bottled up inside.
5. Developing a Bedtime Routine
The dark often brings out the worst thoughts and fears in all of us. Stay by your little one’s side until she is fast asleep – at least for the first few weeks. If left alone, she may lie awake thinking about her trauma and create some monsters in her mind. You may also want to try and read a funny story to make the routine fun.
The road to recovery is a long one, and is to be tread with patience and care. Do not hesitate to reach out to your baby’s pediatrician if you feel the situation is out of control. Professional intervention is effective when brought in at the right juncture. Read more

TEMPER TANTRUM: ONE OF THE MOST COMMON BEHAVIORAL PROBLEM OF TODDLERS.
Many times, presence of tantrums doesn’t mean that the kids are brat, it just means that they are still learning and will definitely ok with learning.
Temper tantrum, one of the common and natural behavioral changes in toddler is a sudden outburst or violent display of anger, frustration and bad temper as physical aggression or resistance like biting, crying, kicking, throwing objects, screaming loudly banging limbs etc. and so on. These types of behavioral changes are seen in maladjusted children as these activities are directed toward the environment and not to any person.
Mostly seen in boys, single child and pampered child, temper tantrum if neglected by parents at toddler stage, then may continue to the preschool age and become more severe indicating low frustration tolerance. And if it continues, the child needs a proper help from child guidance clinic.
Best way to handle the temper tantrums of toddler are:
1.trying to ignore the situation unless they’re harming themselves or other, is the best way to deal with. usually, the toddler scream and cry for getting attention. And when they will see that they are not getting proper response, they may stop the activities.
2. If the child doesn’t stops crying and starts aggressive behavior like kicking biting etc.do stop them immediately and take them out of the situation. make a clear statement, that harming is not good habit or activity. The parents should not be too loud as the child may feel more insecure with the situation.
3.A child imitates their parents, so it’s very important that you should be polite with the kids, now a days, as both the parents are working for hours and couldn’t give time to their kids and simultaneously, they always plays indoor. They too want some time to play with their parents. Do take some time out from the busy schedule every day and give a playtime with them, this can reduce the tantrum of the toddlers.
4.In many cases, creating some distraction will ease the tantrum. These may be some distraction objects or distracted environment, make sure that the distracted object or environment is safe. Give them a comfortable situation to deal with.
5.Scolding or beating the child is really a bad option to deal with temper tantrums, as the toddlers became stubborn and egoistic. They will be not comfortable with the parents or care giver. In case, the situation is going worst, one could talk with the child for the mischievous behaviors.
6. The last but not the least is, give them a hug. Toddler stage of child is very crucial and sensitive as they try to make us understand about their needs or views. but many times, they fail, and that gives a chance of irritability. As a parent or caregiver make them feel safe and calm, give them a hug, so that they too feel comfortable and thus reduces the chances of these tantrum.
To those mothers, fathers, and caregivers who are having a toddler with them, believe me handling them is really not just easy but, when you get the tricks to deal with it gets simple than before. Read more
