If you are thinking why plums are given to babies, then here is why. Following are the health benefits of plums for infants:
Plums are extremely nutritious and provide a ton of nutrients in the smallest serving, too.
They are high in fibre which makes them a great fruit for providing relief from digestive problems and even constipation.
Making baby porridge with plum is the easiest way to maintain all the existing nutrients and giving them to your child.
Dried plums, also called as prunes, act as a digestive stimulant.
Presence of vitamin A in the fruit boosts the development of eyesight of babies.
Best Types of Plums for Baby Food
Different varieties of plums tend to taste a tad different. The plum that you prefer might not be liked by your child. Trial and error is the best way to go about it. However, it has been observed that plums of the Burbank or Victoria variety tend to be a hit with kids since they are juicy enough and are comparatively sweeter than the other varieties.
How to Choose and Store Plums for Infant Food?
When buying plums, make sure that the plums are soft but not too much. On pressing a plum, it should press down just a bit and not stay hard. Check the tip of the plum. If it is soft, then that’s a sign of a fresh good plum.
The colour should be pleasing and rich without any blemishes on the surface. At times, a light white coating might be present on the skin, which is actually a good sign that the plum has stayed untouched.
Hard plums should be avoided since they are not ripe and they won’t have a great flavour. If you do end up having those, let them stay in the open for a while. Plums do tend to ripen quickly. Store ripe plums in the fridge. If you want to use them after a few days, it is best to freeze them completely. It is better to remove the pits before freezing them.

Acupuncture for Infertility: Does It Really Work?
Infertility prevails as a common problem among couples these days who are trying to conceive. The term infertility refers to the inability of a couple to conceive even after regular unprotected intercourse. This can be due to some medical problem with the man or the woman or in some cases both of them. The reasons for infertility are diverse and range from lifestyle to reproductive disorders. Most of these infertility problems are treatable, and there are numerous options available for these couples. These include simple home remedies, drugs, surgery, in-vitro fertilization techniques (IVF) or even surrogacy. Using acupuncture is a new phenomenon which is gaining hype for its alleged power to treat infertility. Let’s understand if this is really true and what the side effects and health risks are.
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is considered a form of medicine in which certain points on the body are stimulated by inserting very fine needles in the skin. It is believed to have originated from Chinese medicinal practices and been around for over 3000 years. Acupuncture has proved helpful in managing pain in conditions like back pain, neck pain, headaches, knee problems and more. There are over 2000 acupuncture points in the human body which when applied pressure on, maintain the normal flow of energy throughout the body. How beneficial it is for other health conditions it is still unknown. It is a safe practice and involves very few risks when administered by a licensed practitioner. Acupuncture and infertility is a growing concept among young couples with even doctors recommending it as a procedure.
How Does It Help with Fertility?
Nowadays, there are numerous options available for infertile couples but not everyone can afford all these expensive techniques. They all tend to look for affordable solutions and home remedies. Acupuncture methods are one such resort for them. There are various ways in which the practice of acupuncture can address the causes of infertility. Acupuncture to boost fertility works in many ways such as helping to stimulate the endocrine hormones, decrease stress, and increase blood flow to the uterus for a thick lining formation. Acupuncture points for infertility locations range from the face to the lower abdomen.
The treatment required varies from one person it another. It is a personalised healthcare service which may not be same for any two people. However, it cannot help with problems like tubal adhesion or reproductive organ cancers. Acupuncture for pregnancy is a growing culture in the society these days since it is a solution that is minimally invasive.
Who Can Benefit?
Couples who are undergoing the following problems can benefit from acupuncture:
Endocrine Rectification: The quantity of hormone released is an important parameter for fertility and affects egg and sperm production. Acupuncture combined with herbal therapy can help overcome such hormonal imbalances. Hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, elevated follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), etc., are some problems which can be solved with acupuncture. Women suffering from Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) are also given acupuncture therapy.
Stress Buster: One of the most well-known problems that acupuncture combats is stress. Lifestyle stress is a common reason for low sperm count or even irregularity with the hormone cycles.
Cost Effective: Couples who cannot afford the high-end IVF and other surgeries to improve fertility can benefit from acupuncture sessions.
When to Start Acupuncture Treatment?
Acupuncture is usually given to the patient for a few months (three to four) before progressing into insemination or any other impregnation technique. The therapy is provided depending on the acupuncturist and doctor's suggestion.
When to Stop Acupuncture Treatment?
The treatment is often carried on even after conceiving. Usually, this is done to avoid any other complications or miscarriages. Since most of the miscarriages occur within the first trimester, the women are kept under treatment till the first three months of pregnancy. This also benefits the mother by keeping her stress free and improving her blood flow.
How Does Acupuncture Fertility Treatment Work?
Acupuncture helps in improving the blood flow to the reproductive organs and helps the uterus form thicker linings. Acupuncture also helps to moderate the neuro-hormonal pathways to enhance energy flow to the reproductive systems in the body.
Are the Acupuncture Points Different After an IVF and Insemination Than Before?
When the patient is expecting to get pregnant after an insemination or IVF procedure, there are a few acupuncture points that your acupuncturist should avoid. These points are contraindicated and are around the stomach, gallbladder, large intestine and bladder. Hence, it is necessary to keep the acupuncture practitioner updated about your infertility treatment and what stage you are in.
Is It Recognised by the Medical Community?
Doctors understand that stress is an underlying cause of illness which can be cured by acupuncture. The importance of acupuncture is so well recognized that many certified doctors have trained themselves in Oriental medicine to master acupuncture.
Are There Any Risks of Using Acupuncture for Infertility?
As acupuncture is a minimally invasive procedure, the risks are limited. However, incorrect application of the needles could result in a miscarriage in some cases. This is why you must have a trained doctor experienced in Oriental medicine to administer the sessions.
Acupuncture has been practised through the ages. Studies have shown that an increased libido and fertility are just some of the many benefits of acupuncture. Many couples have used this form of therapy to help them bear a child with remarkable success.

Am I Not a Wife Just Because I am a Mother?
I met my husband 8 years ago. It was my first job and everything was new to me—the place, the people, and the job too. I met him and he was different in ways I never thought someone could be. Every love story actually starts with hatred first, so yes I didn’t like him when I met him. But he made all the efforts to get closer to me. He made me believe that a person could be injured and hurt but think about the love of his life (the day we met with an accident).
Rest is history. We got married and everything was crazy. We were labelled ‘the crazy couple’. The night outs, the drives, being in the bed on weekends. We were loving it all. We travelled together, partied together, which was the only point of marriage I knew.
Last year, we planned for a baby. It was an amazing feeling and I was so excited when I found out that I was pregnant. I googled everything to know how my baby was growing. I went for regular checkups to make sure that everything was right. But then my husband, who was soon going to be a father, told me that he had decided to leave his IT job and that he would start his own business. I loved the idea and supported him while he was setting up his business. There were days and nights when he didn't show up and I didn't say anything because I knew he was busy. But I was pregnant; my hormones were driving me crazy and my husband was driving me crazy by not being around anymore. I hated the feeling but kept smiling through it as I didn't want to seem unsupportive.
Days passed and my beautiful baby arrived. The first 3 months were extremely difficult. I got no sleep, no tasty food, no long drives, and no good clothes. As your body is weak post pregnancy it makes her feel tired by every second. But time passed and my baby was doing great. I was being the best version of myself (at least I tried to be my 200%). But something was missing. We needed to earn more because we had a baby and were busy all the time. Life was all about phone calls, office, baby, parents, but I lost myself.
I had this weird feeling that maybe I was not being a wife because I was a mother. Was I not important to my husband anymore? He was on calls but those calls were never to me. Was he too busy to not even make a call even after 10 straight hours of not being home? I wanted to ask him if he expected me to be awake late at night waiting for you to be home?
I just want my husband to talk to me because I have forgotten how it was like when you used to be close to me. Tell me this is just a passing phase and you will help me get out from. Save me from this horror of not being your loved one anymore.

Music Therapy for Kids With Autism – Does It Really Helps?
FEATURE IMAGE SSID: (2097484426) (ALT<(Music Therapy for Kids with Autism – Does It Really Helps?>)
Many parents and teachers of children with autism are starting to understand the amazing link between autism and music. Music therapy for kids with autism spectrum disorder on a regular basis will help the child interact and develop his or her communication skills and behaviour.
What Is Autism?
Autism is a neurological impairment which usually appears during the first 3 years of the life of a person. Autistic people have to face challenges in three important areas of their lives:
Communication
Social interaction
Presence of repetitive and restricted behaviours
Many adults and children with autism do have a desire to talk to other people, but this is usually prevented because of the lack of expressive language. Their words are replaced by sounds and gestures in their process of communication.
What Is Music Therapy?
FEATURE IMAGE SSID: (1221493087) (ALT<(Music Therapy for Kids with Autism – Does It Really Helps?>)
Music therapy is a risk-free and well-established technique that uses music for the interactions between children and teachers to teach them certain skills. Music therapy is of so many different types. Music therapy uses interactive activities that are music related to people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to improve their communication and social skills.
It is also important to know that music therapy and musical instruction are not the same thing. If you want your child to build instrumental or vocal skills, then you will need to look for an instructor along with a music therapist.
What Is the Connection Between Autism and Music?
In the 1943 reports on autism, there are so many references to the musical ability of children with autism and their interest in music. Ever since that, the strong tie between autism and music has been clearly shown. People with autism do not develop verbal communication skills very fast, but they are able to understand music and process it just as well as their peers.
Specifically, children with autism have shown advanced abilities in memorization of melodies, pitch categorization, and labelling of various emotions in their music.
When autistic children learn to play an instrument, it can have many benefits, like improving behaviours, social interaction, speech production, shared attention, and developing proper motor skills.
Benefits of Music Therapy for Autistic Children
Here is how music therapy for kids with autism spectrum disorder helps in a great deal:
1. Behaviour
Music can be a great way to improve the behaviour of the autistic child as it helps them learn to follow instructions. Music and autism research was conducted recently that found that music connects the motor and auditory parts of the brain. This helps them obey and better understand verbal commands. It is also seen that negative behaviours like tantrums and aggression are decreased by music therapy.
2. Communication
There is always a struggle of learning to communicate with a child with autism, which can weigh heavily on a caregiver or parent. But adding music into the routine of the child gives a ray of hope.
Music interventions are very useful to improve speech output among autistic individuals in the areas of verbalization, vocalization, and vocabulary. Autistic children can effectively express their inner emotions with the help of singing.
3. Cognition
Teachers often use music for improving cognitive development in autistic children. The rhythmic patterns in music give a structured way for them to properly organize auditory information. This makes music a very important and helpful tool for learning and memorization of daily routines. The child’s attention span can also be improved with repetitive training.
4. Social Skills
Music helps autistic children become more socially engaged with their teachers. But in sessions without music, they are not very engaged. Music encouraged these children to interact and communicate in more ways with other children, including taking turns and sharing.
5. Emotions
Autistic children experience anxiety more than average children. The introduction of music into their daily routine will decrease anxiety behaviours and increase tolerance for frustration. These predictable and repetitive rhythms of classical music help relieve anxiety. Therefore, with music therapy activities autism caused anxiety can be reduced.

How to Introduce Music to a Child With Autism?
There are a few ways to introduce the autistic child to the advantages of music. Music therapy is one way of doing it. The American Music Therapy Association thinks of this practice to be clinical and evidence-based use of interventions of music so that individualized goals can be accomplished within a therapeutic relationship by a professional who has finished an approved program of music therapy.
Physical therapy and music therapy are a little similar because it involves the assessment of the individual by the therapist and creates a unique treatment schedule based on the needs of the individual. You can look for Board Certifies music therapists online.
A less expensive and alternative option is to sign your child up for in-home and private music lessons. There are tools like TakeLessons where you can find a qualified teacher who has experience teaching special needs students.
Also, remember that both of these options will work only when you do it repeatedly and over a long period of time.
Additional Autism Music Tips
If your child is not able to fill in the last word to a phrase of the song, then give them a movement so that they can imitate it instead.
The social story can be set to a famous children’s tune, or you could chant it to a rhythmic beat.
To increase motivation, use novelty: create sound effects, sing in a funny voice, or bring out something more exciting like bubbles.
Choose musical rewards that are relevant. For completion of the colour task, instead of using a food reward, use an actual rainbow xylophone as a way to teach colours.
With each syllable, help the child tap their hands to a beat when you are working on speech imitation.
Overall, all the evidence found support music for autism. This is why it is best to make music a regular part of your child’s routine. Musical instruments for autism will be not only a very fun and enjoyable activity but also a key to unlocking the entire potential of your child.
