6 Skin Cancer Facts You Really Cannot Ignore
The next time you consider skipping sunscreen, beware! Skin cancer doesn't give a warning before arriving. However, of all the known cancers, skin cancer is the most preventable. All it takes is knowing what is skin cancer and learning how you can be safe.
One of the leading causes of skin cancer is the harmful radiation from the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays. These rays cause damage to skin cells and leave you vulnerable. What you must do is get a lowdown on preventing skin cancer and thus breathe easy!
6 Must Know Facts About Skin Cancer
1. There Are Three Types of Skin Cancer
Basal Cell Skin CancerIt's the most common skin cancer affecting parts of the skin that are highly exposed to the sun. If caught in the early stages, it can be treated.
Squamous Cell Skin CancerThis usually affects older individuals but is still treatable in the early stages.
MelanomaThough not a common form of skin cancer, it is the deadliest amongst the three.
2. The Risk is Higher in Caucasians
White skinned people with blonde or red hair and freckles are at a higher risk of developing skin cancer. In contrast, the risk of developing skin cancer is relatively low in African-Americans, Asians and Latinos. However, skin cancer that does affect this race is melanoma and when it strikes, it can be vicious!
3. Men are More Susceptible than Women
Men over the age of 50 are at an increased risk of developing skin cancer. Infact, skin cancer is more common than prostate cancer, colon cancer and lung cancer among men in this age group.
4. Some Areas are at Higher Risk than Others
Cell carcinoma, which is the most severe form of skin cancer, targets areas around the face like the nose, ears, forehead and lower lip. Melanoma skin cancer, on the other hand, is more commonly found on the legs of women and the backs of men.
5. Watch Out for the Symptoms
Be aware of moles on your body which are irregular in shape, colour or size. While basal cell carcinomas appear as small, raised red or pink bumps, squamous cell cancer appears as a rough or scaly growing lump. If a mole is jagged around the edges, wider than one-fourth of an inch and not the same colour all over, it’s a symptom of melanoma.
6. Use Sunglasses, Umbrella and Lipstick
In addition to sunscreen, protect yourself with a good pair of sunglasses, lipstick and an umbrella. There are sunglasses made to block almost 100% of the sun’s UV rays. Lipsticks and lip balms also offer sun protection as many of them come with SPF content. Round it off with an umbrella to ensure complete protection.
As deadly as it sounds, the treatment of skin cancer is easy if caught in the early stages. Prevention, however, is always better than cure. Steer clear of excessive exposure to the sun. Wear protective clothing and don’t ever skip the sunscreen. Also make sure you teach your children what is skin cancer and how they can prevent it. Stay safe! Read more

Listen to What Elders Tell You But Make Your Own Decisions for Your Baby
Many of you might have come across weird and scary statements by your elders and even neighbours about what to do and what not to do with your kids, for example, "Kya aapne baby ko kala tika lagaya?"
It's very funny that we too sometimes fall into this trap and while some of us would still question, others may just simply follow the advice. I am definitely not saying that all these old wives' tales are false, well, some of them may be true but others are definitely meant to give you stress.
I always had a problem with breastfeeding that it was always less for my son. And while the doctor said I should start with formula, some elders in my house were against the idea of formula and they really thought that I dont wanna feed my baby and am trying to avoid it somehow! ? I really want to tell you all that indeed breastfeeding is important and you should do it as much as you can but if the doctor advises you to add top feed with it, please do not hesitate because ultimately your kid's health is more important than these myths!
Another weird thing I came across was, the more you eat ghee and oil, the more healthier you will be after delivery! Well, honestly, I have never liked oily foods and suddenly I was burdened with big laddoos and ghee. Trust me, I insisted more on healthier options like salads, boiled chickpeas, sprouts and soups and I am doing pretty fine!
Now, this is one of my weirdest experiences. I was discharged a few days after delivery and it was pretty cold being December and my son was loaded with layers and layers of woollens! So many were the clothing layers that I hardly could see his face! And to my horror, my son caught fever on the third day of his life! We rushed to the doctor and he just removed all his clothes and wrapped him in a quilt and gave him back to me! That was the day the doctor advised me that the child's clothing should be what you are wearing plus one more in winters! And I still follow that religiously to prevent my son from falling sick unnecessarily.
And lastly, many of you wonderful mothers must have been accused of fulfilling your food desires because somehow your baby started crying that night with colic after breastfeeding. I have been through it myself and it is really very annoying! A mother's milk has all the necessary dietary requirements for the baby and her diet only affects her and not the baby! No sort of junk food can give colic to the baby but yes, it can be harmful for the mother's health! So ladies, eat for yourself and gain health for yourself because the baby will get its nourishment of calcium and iron from your breast milk!
All of us come across these kinds of opinions from our elders but in the end it is we who have to wisely and maturely understand and question these myths and do what is right for ourselves and our babies!

Smiling Back– The Best Gift for Your Baby
Smile is a very powerful emotion that conveys a message in a simple form. It is also one of the initial emotions, babies use to express their love. Sharing a smile with your baby will soon develop into a strong bond of love between you two.
A mother starts to recognise and interpret her baby’s emotions and moods a few days after she is born. Even though a newborn cannot speak, a mother understands her needs and fulfills them. Sharing a loving smile with the baby is the simplest way to make her feel loved and secure. A mere smile from parents and caregivers has been proven to improve baby’s brain development and self-esteem.
The Science of Smile
A baby’s smile can be spontaneous or random. A genuine smile originates from the limbic system, which is the brain’s emotional centre. These limbic systems and motor networks sufficiently mature when the babies turn 4-10 weeks old.
For a newborn, the sight or even the voice of the primary caregivers including the parents is enough to make them smile to express their happiness. Even blind babies show their grin on feeling the touch or hearing the voice of their key caregivers.
Bond with Your Baby’s Smile
Smiles are the best building blocks of attachment between a mother and her child. When a baby feels loved and safe with her parents and primary caregivers, she simply smiles back at them to show her appreciation. A smile is just an expression of her joy and happiness.
Importance of Smile
For parents, nothing is more rewarding than watching their babies smile. It gives them contentment and fulfillment. A baby not smiling back also serves as a test of parental behaviour. While it is said that a baby’s smile motivates parenting behaviour, parents must also learn to respond positively to their baby even in distress.
Smile plays an important part in attachment and connecting with your baby. As your baby is unable to understand the meaning of your words, smiling back at her is the best way to build the bond of love and care.
When you smile back at your baby, it makes her feel safe and secure. For your newborn, the world is an unknown environment and a smile from you comes as a form of assurance that she will be looked after, no matter what. This feeling of security is vital for healthy development of your baby.
Young children and even babies can read their parents’ faces. Their parent’s expressions are the first encounter in the outside world. They use it as a guide for understanding behaviour. Sharing a smile with the babies, will develop a positive picture about the world and surrounding environment.
Children learn about emotions through their interaction with others. A smile can directly convey the message of love and trust to the child. Sharing a heart-warming smile with your baby is one of the primary emotional experiences that helps shape his responses in the future. Read more

Sustaining the Work Pace after having a Baby
Now, that the first month is officially over and you are back to regular work hours at office, how do you go ahead from here? That 7 pm brainstorming meeting, the 7 am conference call, the after-office party how should you manage? Are these questions bogging you down, as you slowly settle into the new work-life balance you have attained with great difficulty?
Now, that the proverbial first month of getting back to work after a baby is over, sets in the more difficult part of sustaining the pace on work and home fronts. And we realize that all the doomsday predictions about our career were unnecessary. With some realistic planning, goal-setting and expectation-management, we can actually have it all.
Managing Home
Let’s get our priorities straight – home is what matters first, now more than ever.
Ask yourself these tough questions straight off:
If you have had family staying with you until now to help out, is it an eternal arrangement? Or will they be moving out soon?
If they are around, can they continue taking care of the baby or will you need a nanny to take care of her under the supervision of the elders?
If they won’t, do you have somebody like a nanny or day care where your little one will be taken care of, in your absence?
Are you comfortable with the pace of managing home – cooking, groceries, cleaning, etc? If no, do you need to get help now?
For some of the above, you may have realized there are changes to be brought about in your arrangement. In which case, it is advisable to set the pattern now while you still have the flexibility at work. This allows for you to rush back home if things go awry on a certain day.
Managing Finances
With the baby arriving, your expenses are about to go up – as you would have realized by now. Simple things like the grocery shopping bill now rise exponentially – diapers or baby food does not come inexpensive. With the plethora of options available online in terms of buying groceries also, virtual shopping becomes a matter of great convenience once you have become a multi-tasking parent.
Work Front
Now that the first month is over, have another discussion with the team about easing back into work full-time and scheduling the same. Your team’s co-operation will be of utmost importance. As long as your targets are met and deadlines adhered to, your boss shouldn’t have a problem.
Make it clear that, full-time work means 9-6, 8-5 or whatever the stipulated work hours. It no longer means 9 to whatever time is feasible and that’s clearly a thing of the past. Stick by your schedule each day. The moment they sense variations made, it will be taken as an example to be quoted back when the next opportunity arises.
Enquire about any crèche facility extended by the HR to employees. This will mean your little one is close to you and you can check in on her during lunch or tea breaks.
Getting back to work and making it work is purely a matter of setting your mind to it. With a little planning, we will easily be able to cross this bridge too. Read more

A. if the child is having abdominal pain give syrup colicaid or syrup cyclopam 5 ml to the child for now
then you have to meet the doctor to find the cause of abdominal pain because it can be either due to gas or due to worms or some other abdominal pathology or gastroenteritis, constipation, digestive issues.
in the meantime it is advisable to give only easily digestible food to the child and water andx buttermilk curd rice and dal.
can give poha upma daliya and fruits.
avoid milk products , packet foods and fried items and heavy diet.
you can continue anti-colicx medicines and your doctor may add antacids for the child for few days it will help in decreasing the gas as well as bloating.
