I Visited the Bisleri Plant in Mumbai, and So Should You
When I got married ten years ago, I knew nothing about being a homemaker. I had no clue how to cook or clean. All I knew was my work, and I was excellent at it, growing year after year. After all, I was young, ambitious, and hungry for success. Homemaking seemed fit for a completely different set of people; an art I knew nothing about, nor did I have the inclination to master. But all that changed as soon as I welcomed my first-born. The moment I held her for the first time in my arms, I knew I wanted everything to be ‘perfect’ for her. Eventually, I warmed up to my new responsibilities; learning to cook, organise the house, clean, and much more. I wanted to ensure everything I did was for the wellness of my family.
That’s when I remembered that my mom was particularly strict about the water we drank or used for cooking at home. Every morning, she meticulously boiled a huge amount of water in a copper utensil, and set it aside for the entire day. I took a leaf out
of her homemaking guide, but not before tweaking it a little. I changed our water consumption from tap water to Bisleri, not only for drinking, but also for cooking. Over the last few years, since we have been using the original mineral water, I’ve become
a Bisleri loyalist after experiencing a stark difference in the health and wellness of my family.
My move of using mineral water, as opposed to normal tap water at home, has been met with both astonishment and criticism from various people, and I have argued my case religiously each time. Of course, not being an expert on everything ‘mineral water’,
I did have my moments of maybe - maybe not, which thankfully I had a chance to clarify with the professionals at Bisleri, recently.
FirstCry Parenting - India’s largest parenting community invited Heer and me for an afternoon at the Bisleri plant in Mumbai, where we would get a first-person perspective on how each drop of Bisleri comes with a promise of goodness! The visit to the plant gave me first-hand knowledge of how water moves through different stages of scientifically advanced, rigorous processes in the state-of-the-art production facility, to ensure that each consumer receives the purest, safest, and healthiest drinking water. I learnt new things, debunked some myths, and understood a lot more about mineral water. Of all the things, the FIVE things about Bisleri water that stood out for me, reiterating my belief in the brand, are:
1. 10-Step Quality Process
Every drop of Bisleri water that comes from the plant, undergoes a 10-step quality process. Water is checked at crucial points to see if it is fit for the next step of purification, and only then does it go through various forms of filtration and ozonisation, to remove impurities and maintain the highest safety standards.
2. 114 Tests
To ensure that the best quality product is provided to the consumers, tests are conducted throughout the process, not only to assess chemical and microbiological properties, but also, sensorial aspects of the water. And if that’s not enough, over 70 tests
are done on the finished product to check for Toxic Substances, Radio-Active and Pesticide Residues, and to ensure the correct levels of Microbiological Requirements and Ozone Concentration.
3. Mineralisation
The process of purification removes everything from the water, including the minerals, which affects not only the quality, but also the sensorial aspect of water. At Bisleri, water is enriched with Potassium and Magnesium after the purification process to help maintain a great mineral balance in the body. The Total Dissolved Solids in Bisleri water is at a much better level than other bottled or tap water.
4. Double Ozonization
Water purification at Bisleri goes through two stages of ozonization. First during the initial stage to kill harmful bacteria and, again, during the final stage to add sustainability to the quality of water. The process helps make water healthier.
5. Full Automation
The entire manufacturing process at Bisleri’s state-of-the-art plant in Mumbai and all across the country is devoid of any human intervention. Starting from sorting the bottle moulds to blowing them, lining to fill, labelling, packaging, assembly and dispatch, all the process are automated, and hence, the chances of contamination or infection are zero.
I say this because I saw it. If you’re still a bit skeptical, all you have to do is book a visit to the nearest Bisleri plant and judge for yourself.
You can get all details about booking a visit to Bisleri plant and verifying all of this yourself. After all, Har Maa jaanti hai, har Paani ki bottle Bisleri Nahi Hai.

Your Baby's First Cry - What Does It Signify?
The moment your little one emerges out of your body into the real world, everyone in the room, including the doctors, nurses and yourself, are fixated on the baby and waiting for him to make his presence felt. The first cry of the baby is something that signifies his entry into the world. But do all babies cry at birth? Do they continue to keep crying or they cry just for a few minutes and then go silent? What does each cry signify? These and many other questions are all necessary for understanding the healthy nature of a baby.
Why do Babies Cry after Birth?
A baby crying after birth is considered an ideal situation and with good reason. Once the child is born, doctors usually will work towards using a suction tube to clean out any residual fluid in the baby’s nose and mouth. This allows the bodily systems to be triggered and stimulate a cry. At times, this is done by the baby himself and the lungs kick into action to cry out loud, which also draws in the first breath of his life.
Why is Birth Cry Important?
As you progress in your motherhood, the incessant crying of your baby might leave you irritated to no end. But the first cry is always the most joyous moment of a mother’s life. This assures the doctor as well that your baby has ticked one of the most important signs for survival.
For the entire duration of pregnancy, the baby is supplied the necessary oxygen directly inside the womb via the placenta. In the development of the baby’s body, the lungs are pretty much the last organs to be matured. Furthermore, since the child is fully covered with amniotic fluid in the sac, there is no point in using the lungs for breathing. This is why all the nutrition and oxygen supply reaches the body directly via the umbilical cord and the placenta.
It is primarily due to this biological structure that most doctors will clamp your child’s placenta the moment he is born. Once the baby’s body senses that there is no supply of oxygen from the previous source, it will start stimulating the lungs to begin functioning, and this manifests in the form of a cry as the baby literally asks for its first breath.
Does Baby’s First Cry help in Breathing?
Very much so. The lungs don’t mature until quite late in the pregnancy and, even after that, they do not have any function as such. When labour sets in, the fluid starts drying up and this begins to allow the lungs to start doing their function. They begin expanding and contracting gently. However, small amounts of fluid and mucus do remain present inside the lungs, in the airways, in the nostrils and even the mouth. This needs to be expelled and the pathways cleared for breathing to take place. The cry is an effort to push them all out, which is why the first cry is usually accompanied by a gurgle and then gets stronger as the air starts being taken in easily.
What if your Newborn Doesn't Cry at Birth?
Doctors have experienced multiple scenarios of a baby not crying after birth. But when you see it for yourself, it could be quite shocking because that would mean that your baby is not breathing.
A cry is a sign that shows that the lungs of your baby are fit for breathing. If your baby doesn’t start crying immediately, it isn’t necessarily a cause for worry. Many babies are born healthy, in pink and quite alert with limb movements and all, and might begin to cry a few minutes later. Doctors have a good idea about this and do take additional measures if the baby’s colour is not healthy pink and shows signs of a struggle. The suction pump is used quickly to clear pathways of any obstacles. The classic method of spanking the baby is used as a last resort to cause it some pain and make it cry out loud, although many doctors do opt for massaging the baby as well. If all of these methods fail, too, then the baby is shifted to the ICU and artificial tubes are used to supply oxygen to the body.
How Doctors Encourage a Baby’s Cry after Birth?
For doctors and mothers alike, the first cry is always the strongest and reassuring signs of the ability to breathe well. Therefore, if the baby does not start crying within the first few minutes of delivery, extensive measures are taken to make sure that the baby does begin to do so.
Earlier, many doctors would hold the baby upside down firmly around his legs and then slap the butt gently. This not only causes slight pain to the child, but the motion also helps loosen any residues that might be obstructing the airways. Constantly doing so can irritate the child enough to begin crying.
Most people began looking at it as a barbarian practice and inhuman to the delicate baby. Doctors would usually take a lot of care in ensuring the child is not harmed and they would be quite experienced in handling them. Off late, in the modern times, those methods are rarely used. With technologies available to control the situation, the source of the problem is handled directly.
Since the major issue with the absence of crying is the obstructions present in the nose or the mouth or even inside the lungs, assistance is provided to the baby’s efforts with the help of a suction pump. The pressure applied by the pump pulls out any residues in the pathways or loosens them enough to let them be thrown out by the lungs contractions. This can bring out a cry quite easily. Another technique that is smartly done is by making use of a towel. The texture of the towel is quite rough for the baby’s sensitive skin, especially when it has been comfortable in the amniotic fluid all this while. This irritating sensation of a coarse surface rubbing against the smooth skin can be enough to stimulate a reaction from the baby, and he might begin to cry due to it.
A crying baby is the mother’s greatest assurance that the delivery has been successful and it causes immense pleasure and relaxation at the same time. Most natural deliveries take care of it since the baby already begins to experience the discomfort as it passes through the birth canal. In cesarean deliveries, the doctors provide the stimulus by using a suction pump.
No matter what the type of delivery is, it is important to not be worried if your baby doesn’t start wailing the moment it emerges. It is best to assure yourself that the doctors and medical personnel around are quite experienced and well-equipped to make your baby cry or take corrective action in ensuring its well-being. Within no time, you will have the bundle of joy in your arms, either wailing out loud for food or cooing softly and sleeping in the warmth of your presence. Be prepared for nights filled with cries thereafter.

Does Tea Help to Induce Labour?
Some of the herbal tea varieties have long been used by midwives and grandmothers to induce labour at the end of a long pregnancy. If you are overdue, you may have the urge to induce labour using these methods. Although it’s possible it’s not necessarily a good idea, continue reading to know all about labour induced through teas.
Teas Used for Inducing Labour
Here are some of the tea varieties that possess labour-inducing properties:
1. Red Raspberry Leaf Tea to Induce Labour
Tea made out of red raspberry leaf is supposedly beneficial for toning the muscles of the uterus which will help it work more efficiently when you go into labour. Toned muscles will help the labour progress much smoother without fatigue once underway. However, it is not recommended to have raspberry tea to kick start labour once you’re due. It could cause bad contractions that can distress the baby. It is recommended to start taking increasing doses of the tea gradually from the time you’re about 32 weeks.
2. Basil Tea to Induce Labour
Basil is an emmenagogue, which means it is a substance that can increase the menstrual flow. Basil tea has other compounds then can help smooth muscles to relax and bring on a late period. In higher doses, basil and oregano tea can induce labour. Midwives and natural health care providers have used this combination to induce labour in women who are overdue. It needs to be had several times a day for the effect to kick in.
3. Black Cohosh Tea to Induce Labour
[caption id="attachment_215466" align="alignnone" width="300"] Source: Pinterest[/caption]
The Black cohosh is a herb that belongs to the buttercup family. Also called snakeroot, the root of black cohosh is used as a tea to induce labour. It is also available as tincture and capsule along with tea. The herb is supposedly similar to estrogen in function.
4. Blue Cohosh Tea to Induce Labour
[caption id="attachment_215475" align="alignnone" width="176"] Source: Pinterest[/caption]
Blue cohosh is also called as papoose root. It’s a herb used by native Americans in as an aid to labour. The root is collected from the wild in autumn and dried. It is commonly used as tincture but is also available as tea or capsules. Blue cohosh is an antispasmodic which means it doesn’t increase contractions. Therefore, it is mostly used to avoid miscarriages by women. It is also taken by women in labour to help coordinate uterine contraction and make it smoother.
5. Chamomile Tea to Induce Labour
Chamomile is a herb closely related to the common daisy, and there are some reports of the German and Roman chamomile causing miscarriage. Hence the herb gets its reputation as being helpful in inducing labour although there is no credible evidence to back up the general belief. The flower of the herb is dried to make tea, capsules and extracts.
6. Cinnamon and Clove Tea to Induce Labour
Cinnamon and close are spices that are safe to consume in limited quantities during pregnancy. The effectiveness of cinnamon and clove tea in inducing labour hasn’t been demonstrated to a credible extent although it is tried with other herbs as a labour-inducer.
7. Cumin Tea to Induce Labour
Cumin tea has also been used to kick start labour by midwives in women who have mostly gone past their 40 weeks mark. The tea is known to stimulate contractions in women who have shot past their due dates. Like many other spicy foods, cumin tea increases the metabolic rate which is thought to stimulate labour potentially. Cumin tea, unfortunately, isn’t a pleasant tasting beverage. To overcome its bitterness, a small chunk of potato can be added into the mix while preparing the tea.
How to Make Your Own Tea to Induce Labour?
The method of preparing your own tea to induce labour is a bit different than the usual way of dumping hot water over tea bags in a cup. This takes a little longer and has a few extra steps.
Add one tablespoon of the herbal tea powder into a mug.
Pour boiling water into it.
Cover the mug with a saucer to conserve as much heat and steam as possible in the mug.
Let the tea steep in hot water for at least 15 minutes.
Strain the herb before drinking.
Consult Doctor Before Trying to Use Any Tea to Induce Labour
While some doctors agree that labour inducing varieties of tea do work, some are of the opinion that is all in mind. Although tea seems harmless enough, it’s unsafe to induce labour without consulting your doctor or midwife. They may guide you to use the best drink for your condition or warn you to against trying it at all.
Like all herbal preparations, the effectiveness of these tea varieties is not thoroughly established. However, they are used by midwives and herbal healthcare providers as a natural way to induce labour.

Celeb Moms Who Welcomed Their Babies Via C-section Births
Motherhood is an exciting time, especially when the mommy-to-be is in her last trimester just waiting to see her little munchkin! Every doctor has information on the baby’s and mommy’s health in order to suggest the kind of delivery that is best for both. Some mommies can give birth naturally, but some may have difficulty giving birth that way – that’s one of the reasons they opt for C-sections.
A lot of mommies are shamed for having C-sections, even when they sometimes don’t have a choice due to indescribable pain, or the dangerous position of the baby in the womb that might cause severe complications if birthed vaginally. It’s important to remember that a woman does not become a mother only if she delivers vaginally - being a mom means taking care of your little one in the best possible way you can, and how you bring the child into the world doesn’t matter! The reasons for wanting C-sections can be many; what doesn’t change is the excitement the mommy has to see her baby, and that is precious and beautiful.
8 Celebrity Moms Who Delivered Via C-section
When a celebrity mom is pregnant, much hue and cry is made as they are constantly in the public eye, whether it is to showcase their maternity style or to analyse the size of their baby bumps. However, at the end of the day, celebrity moms-to-be are just like regular moms-to-be. They too have to deal with morning sickness, labour pains and the tough decisions every mom-to-be may have to take, and some mommies have to make the decision of opting for a C-section! Let’s look at some well-known B-town mommies who delivered via C-section.
1. Lara Dutta Bhupathi

2. Kareena Kapoor Khan
[caption id="attachment_228066" align="aligncenter" width="533"] source: https://www.instagram.com/iamkareenakapoor/[/caption]

3. Shilpa Shetty Kundra

Quite a favourite even today, Shilpa Shetty Kundra gave birth to her son, Viaan, via C-section in 2012. Her solid maternal instincts and her love for her son and her family are quite evident as she narrates anecdotes of them on television shows and interviews, and that is heart-warming, to say the least!
4. Kajol

6. Malaika Arora Khan
[caption id="attachment_228071" align="aligncenter" width="533"] source: https://www.instagram.com/malaikaaroraofficial/[/caption]
Arhaan, Malaika and Arbaaz Khan’s son, was delivered via C-section about 17 years ago! It’s hard to believe sometimes that Malaika is a mom – daily Instagram posts of her doing Yoga and strength training to get a solid, strong body make us forget!
7. Mandira Bedi
[caption id="attachment_228070" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] source: https://www.instagram.com/mandirabedi/[/caption]

8. Manyata Dutt

Celebs may not seem to have a lot in common with us, but their stories of complications and difficulties make them much more relatable! There’s one truth that is universal among us all, however - the bond between the child and mother is one that is pure and beautiful regardless of how they came into the world.

5 Challenges Faced By Mothers Who Work From Home
Taking care of a baby is not easy. Motherhood is a big challenge and almost all moms work 24*7 to complete their never-ending duties. Moms play a vital role in the lives of their children. A mother needs to be a friend at one point and strict at other times. Mothers have a tough life, especially working mothers. The selfless love of mothers for their children cannot be explained in words. I appreciate all the moms or should I say supermoms for managing everything efficiently.
Many companies provide women with the option of work from home. This helps them balance both professional and personal life. Especially if they have small kids to look after. There are many perks in working from home but challenges too. Through my blog, I want to highlight 5 challenges faced by a mother who chooses to work from home:
1. There is No Fixed Routine
Being at home disrupts the daily routine of a mother who works from home. She has to juggle between housework and office work. Most women, end up multitasking. And she has no time to relax. The day goes off in completing one thing or the other. When we go to work, we follow a 9-5 routine, but when we work from home, there is no fixed time.
2. Poor Internet Connection Impacts Other Work As Well
The unexpected power cut or bad internet connection may impact your office work for a few seconds, minutes or hours. This may affect your housework as well.
3. She May Be Taken for granted
When you work from home, your spouse and kids may assume that your job is the coolest in the world. And they may expect that you will do all the household chores and meet their demands, and complete your office work as well. In simple words, you may be taken for granted.
4. There are Lots of Distractions
The atmosphere at home may make you feel cosy and your attention may get diverted. You may also feel that you have to do your pending household chores. You want to keep your home clean and well arranged parallelly while working on a laptop. The motivation to focus on office work starts decreasing.
5. Attending an Unexpected Visitor
There are also some days when you are preparing for an important call and suddenly the call bell rings. You might not be expecting anyone but when you open the door, it is some distant relative. Now you have to somehow manage both the guests and the meeting.
So these are some challenges faced by mothers who work from home. But these are just a few. I am sure you will all agree with me.

6 Kids' Photos You Should Never Put On The Internet
Who doesn't like clicking pictures of their adorable children and sharing them with their loved ones? While social media has opened a whole new channel of interaction for us, we need to be doubly careful when it comes to kids. Are there some pictures we should never, ever post on the Internet? Why?
Your intentions while sharing your child's picture are simple– you only want to share the joy! But what if other people see these pictures as an opportunity to further a criminal or illegal activity? Your child's pictures may not be safe on the Internet, and if they fall into the wrong hands, they can be illegally used for unethical purposes!
There have been a number of reports of cases wherein the same pictures have appeared on various websites. These have been used for advertising and commercial reasons, and worse, child trafficking and sexual purposes. So, what should you keep in mind while posting pictures of your kids on social networks? We bring you a list of 6 photos you need to keep a mile away from!
Safety Precautions While Posting Your Kids' Pictures Online
Put privacy settings in place so only your family and friends have access to the photos.
Steer clear of posting pictures that criminals can misuse.
Never tag other people and their children without asking their permission.
6 Photos of Kids You Must Never Share on Social Media
1. Location-Specific Pictures
Where does your child go to school? Which playground does he spend his evenings in? These are questions whose answers you will not reveal to strangers even in your dreams! But hey, what if all the answers are on your social media page? Avoid posting pictures which indicate your child's location, especially at a time or in a place you aren't there to keep him company.
2. Somebody Else's Child
Never post a group photo of your child without the permission of everyone involved in the picture. If it's a birthday party, for instance, and other people's kids are in the picture too, you need to check with them before creating a Facebook album. Everyone has a different viewpoint on social media – a viewpoint you have to respect.
3. Nude Pictures
We mean pictures in the bath-tub, playing with water, changing diapers, or general walking around the horse in undies! While these pictures are definitely cute, you don't want them reaching the wrong people who can then misuse them without your knowledge. Steer clear of anything involving nudity, even if we are only talking about children here.
4. Potty Time
Your child has mastered the art of going to the potty. While that is definitely cause for celebration, there is no reason to post a visual memento of the event! This is only going to make your child red-faced when he grows up, and hold a grudge against you for disrespecting what is a very personal matter between a parent and child.
5. Pictures Your Kids Will Hate You For Posting
The first time they wet the bed-sheets or the first time they pooped on your clothes? Erm...definitely not the pictures your kids will want for dinner-table conversation when they grow up! Respect your child's privacy right from the start and avoid sharing pictures that he may later find embarrassing.
6. Anger or Punishment Pictures
Is your child not having an A-1 day and throwing tantrums with all his might? Well, keep all this away from social media. Some parents think that child shaming online teaches them the right lesson. But it can actually make them feel very embarrassed and create a permanent dent in your relationship. Shaming pictures is a strict no-no on the Internet! Read more
