Once your little munchkin starts reaching a stage where you will be required to make the transition from breast milk to other sources of nutrition, you may start looking for healthy options of food, and you may come across tofu too. Tofu, which was mostly used in Asian cuisines, has become a new favourite food with many people around the world. However, can your baby benefit from this superfood? Is tofu good for babies, when and how can you introduce in it your baby’s diet? All this and much more have been shared in this article.
What is Tofu?
Tofu is soybean cheese, and it is made by coagulating soybean curd, the same way cottage cheese is prepared from milk curd. Tofu has a high protein content, which makes it an ideal replacement of meat for the vegetarian. Tofu has emerged as a superfood for the babies and young children too because of its many health benefits. Tofu is available in different flavours, texture and hardness; however, following are widely used varieties:
1. Firm or Hard Tofu
This kind of tofu has a hard texture like meat, and it is available in blocks, just like cottage cheese. It is mostly used in culinary dishes with gravy or dishes that require good consistency for holding the dish together. You may use firm tofu for babies as a healthy snacking option.
2. Silken or Soft Tofu
This kind of tofu is softer, smoother and has custard-like consistency. It is mostly used in sauces, desserts, smoothies etc. You can also give silken tofu as baby food to your munchkin.

What Are the Benefits of Tofu for Infants?
Tofu is loaded with protein, iron, calcium, dietary fibre and various other nutrients. It is a great option for your baby because of its soft texture. You may give it in many forms to your baby.
When and How to Serve Tofu to Babies
Most babies have their first solid meal at around six months of age. But if you wish to give tofu to your baby, you should wait until your baby is at least 8 months old. Tofu has complex proteins, and babies may not be able to digest it at a younger age. Here’s how you may serve tofu to your baby 8 months old baby:
You may cut it into cubes or chunks and give it as a snack.
You can crush it in your baby’s cereal or porridge.
You may blend it in your baby’s soup or milk.
You may mix it with other vegetable and give it as a meal to your baby.
How to Buy and Store Tofu
Tofu can be easily procured from any supermarket, grocery or gourmet store in your locality. Usually, you may not be able to find baby size serving of tofu; therefore, you may be required to store the unused tofu. The unused tofu can be stored in a jar filled with water in the refrigerator for up to seven days. However, you must change the water of the jar on a daily basis. Fresh tofu renders sweet and pleasant aroma, and if it smells sour or unpleasant, it may have gone bad or become stale.

FAQs
You may have oodles of queries in your mind, well; we have tried to cover most in this post. Here is a frequently asked question that most of you may have your doubts about.
Should you give frozen tofu to your baby?
Ideally, tofu should be consumed within a week after you opened the packet and stored under refrigeration. But if you wish to store it in a freezer, you may do so by keeping it in a zip-lock bag. It may change its appearance and texture, and thus it may turn spongy and darker. However, you may give frozen tofu to your baby.
Sometimes babies may be allergic to soy and soy products; therefore, if your baby is allergic to such products, you should be careful that you do not give any food that may contain soy products in it.

Mongolian Spots in Babies - Causes and Treatment
Birthmarks in newborns are common, but when they are as prominent as Mongolian spots, they can be a cause of concern to parents. It’s important to know that these birthmarks pose no risk of cancer or health danger to babies. Mongolian spots are common in Asian babies and disappear as babies grow older. Read further to understand how they form and what their prognosis is.
What are Mongolian Spots?
Mongolian spots are a type of birthmark which are often present at birth or appear soon after. They are also termed as slate grey nevi and dermal melanocytosis. These spots are bluish grey in colour and can vary from dark blue to a lighter grey. The colour is normally uniform over the whole area of the birthmark. Mongolian spots can form in various sizes and most are a few centimetres across without any clearly defined edges or shapes. They are not raised above the skin and are flat. They typically occur on the lower back or the buttocks of the baby and occasionally form on the arms or legs. Mongolian spots are not a cause of concern as they don’t pose any health risks. Babies who have them will outgrow the spots as they get older, possibly by the time they reach their teens.
How Common are Mongolian Blue Spots and Who is at Risk of Getting it?
Mongolian spots are usually found in babies of African, Middle Eastern, and Asian descent and are found in about three-quarters of the children from these regions. Interestingly, the term Mongolian spot was coined by Edwin Baelz in 1885, who was a German professor. He believed only the non-Caucasians and Mongols developed these marks. The blue-grey spots are seen in approximately 80% of Asians, 90% of Africans and Native Americans and in 70% of Hispanics. Full-term babies are more likely to have blue-grey spots than the preterm ones. Both boys and girls have an almost equal chance of getting these birthmarks but some studies suggest the chances of Mongolian spots are slightly higher in boys.
What Causes Mongolian Spots on Babies?
When a baby is in the womb, the cells that eventually develop into its skin move to the surface. During the 11th and the 14th week of pregnancy, a specific type of cells called dermal melanocytes (cells that produce the pigment melanin) move up to the top layer of the skin. These dermal cells typically disappear by the 20th week of pregnancy. Experts believe that when these cells do not move to the top layer of the skin and disappear, they form the Mongolian spots at birth. As these melanocytes are trapped deep beneath the layers of skin, they take on a bluish-grey shade.
The amount of melanin (pigment responsible for skin colour) in the skin normally determines the colour of the birthmark. Babies with a darker shade of skin are more likely to have these types of birthmarks.
What Do the Spots Look Like?
Because of their bluish appearance, Mongolian marks on baby can be easily mistaken for bruises.
Features of Mongolian birthmarks:
They are blue or bluish-grey in colour.
Their texture is normal, similar to the surrounding skin.
Mongolian spots are typically 2-8 cms wide.
These marks have an irregular shape without defined edges.
They are present at birth or appear soon after the birth.
Mongolian spots most commonly appear on the lower back or buttocks.
Are the Spots Dangerous?
Mongolian spots are harmless and do not need any medical intervention. They are not cancerous in nature or indicative of any disease or disorder. In most cases, the spots fade over the years and disappear by the time the child is a teenager. However, a small number of cases have been associated with rare metabolic conditions such as:
Hunter’s syndrome
Hurler’s disease
Niemann-Pick disease
Mannosidosis
Mucolipidosis
The risks of the above are more likely in babies who have large, widespread Mongolian spots on their back and buttocks. Occasionally they may be mistaken for the symptoms of another serious spinal condition called spina bifida occulta. However, the spots related to that are reddish in colour and not the characteristic blue-grey colour of Mongolian spots.
How to Treat Mongolian Spots in Newborn?
Mongolian spots do not need any kind of special care or treatment. Since they are not painful, they do not pose any issues associated with the skin. As they appear mostly on the lower back and buttocks, they are not visible most of the times. However, if the spots persist beyond the teenage years and into adulthood, removal procedures can be considered.
Laser removal procedures have shown good results in removing the spots in adults. One study in Lasers in Medical Science shows that people got positive results with the alexandrite laser. One other study in Dermatologic Surgery found that Mongolian spots treatment responded very well to the use of the Alexandrite laser if a person is younger than 20 years old. It’s also found that skin bleaching creams with other types of lasers also work well along with the alexandrite laser.
Why Should Parents Take Pictures of the Spots at Birth?
Mongolian spots being dark blue or bluish-grey in colour can easily be mistaken for “spank marks” or abuse. It might give a false sign of child abuse to teachers or daycare providers which can lead to unintended complications. Taking regular photographs of the spots from childbirth can be used to avoid these misunderstandings. Photographs are also a good way to track the disappearance of the spots or to notice any new unrelated mark that might pose a health risk.
When to Seek Medical Help?
Most Mongolian spots fade over time and pose no threat to the child. However, if you notice that any spot changes colour or shape it can be something else and it’s imperative that you get it looked by a dermatologist. Medical help is also an option if the marks are prominent in teens and is a cause for embarrassment to your child.
Moreover, don't let Mongolian spots to bother you, as they are harmless and are known to fade on their own.

6 Spiritual Laws From Indian Culture To ATTRACT Money In The Household!
A healthy, wealthy and prosperous household is something everyone wishes for. However, while some are able to attain material wealth with ease, others struggle for years to get the same. Lucky for us, there are some simple solutions in our Indian culture that can help us out!
A major factor in making a happy and content family is prosperity. A prosperous household is every person's desire. After all, we all need money to fulfill our children's wishes, put them in a good school, get our loved ones the things they want...Money must not become the central focus of our lives but it definitely is important.
However, while some of us are able to get financial success quite easily, for others the path to wealth can be quite elusive. It's a vicious cycle, really. You may be working really hard but are still not able to reap results. It is in this situation that our Indian culture promises a solution. As per ancient Indian beliefs and traditions, there are certain laws that if followed promise financial prosperity. Many people have extreme faith in these rituals and do swear by them.
Even if you do not believe in adopting the spiritual route to prosperity, these ideas are worth checking out for their positivity, faith and hope - crucial tenets to achieving success in life!
1. Please The Goddess of Wealth
Lakshmi is considered to be the Indian goddess of wealth and beauty. She is personified as the bearer of fortune and prosperity. Therefore, many Indians pay their respects by doing 'Lakshmi puja' (worship of Lakshmi) on the festival of Diwali. Apart from this, various mantras are chanted to call the goddess to people's homes so she could shower her blessings.
One such practice is to take a clear glass vase with a narrow neck and paste an image of the goddess on it. Drop 4 shiny quarters every day and thank her for the abundance she has provided to your family.
2. Elephant is The Symbol of Prosperity
In ancient India, elephants were owned by rich emperors and since then they have become a symbol of status and wealth. It was believed that only the rich could afford these royal animals. Therefore, till date, many people believe that elephants are lucky charms. Most Indians show their devotion towards the symbol by wearing it in some for or the other, such as jewellery or as keep as decorative items in their houses.
3. Worship Lord Kuber
Lakshmi may be the goddess of prosperity; however, Kuber is known to be the Lord of wealth. Many believe that pleasing him is a significant part of carving a path to financial stability and prosperity.
4. Watch The Vastu
Indian scriptures pay special attention to the concept of vastu and therefore it is considered an essential part shaping a person's financial condition. It is said that vastu-perfect homes attract wealth. Following are a few vastu tips you could consider trying:
Keep a money plant in a green vase. This is known to attract wealth
A beautiful house entrance is known to be a bearer of prosperity. Make sure it is clean and beautifully kept
The North-West zone in your house is the most prosperous one and can help you get maximum financial support
5. Money Should Be Shared
Indians believe in the power of karma - what you give always comes back. Therefore it is advised that you help those who are in need of financial assistance and are less fortunate, and the universe will always reward you. When your intentions are generous, you get happiness - a precursor of wealth. Pay for the groceries of a family struggling to make ends meet, or simply spend time with children at an orphanage. There are millions of ways to spread happiness!
6. Always Respect The Power of Money
Finally, we must always remember that money is the result of hard work, sweat, blood and labour. When it is disrespected, you tend to disrespect yourself. If managed properly, money will only grow and reward you and your family members. But if it is disrespected, it can negatively impact your family's future. Learn to track all your expenses and keep your finances organized as this is a pre-requisite to ensuring it lasts you a lifetime. Read more

Common ailments in toddlers which can be managed at home with proper care and few home remedies.
Kids are a bundle of joy but there are days when they are unwell and we turn worried thinking whether to visit the doctor or not? Most of the times the health issues will be minor and can be successfully managed at home with proper care and few homeremedies. What are those health issues? How to cure them? What are those little home remedies which we can follow? Read below
Gas/bloating/colic pain:
This is a very common problem experienced by most of the kids. In babies below 6 months of age you should compulsorily make a habit of burping them after every feed. Be it direct feeding or formula feeding. Burping infants is a must. You can pat the back or gently massage holding them upright. No matter you hear the burp sound or not it helps to release all the trapped gas inside making them calmer and fuss free.
Always keep the medicine, drops which is available for colic/gas handy. Infants usually cry a lot when they are colicky. Just give a few drops of the medicine as prescribed by your physician to settle them calmly.
Once they start solids by the age of 6 months there is no need of burping as they turn active with lot of movements. Still if you feel they are bloated help them with a gentle pat on their back, light belly massage. If needed give the medicine said above. For older babies you can add a pinch of jeera or cinnamon powder to their food preparation which helps in the digestion process.
Spit up and projectile vomiting:
These two are also very common problems. "Spit up" means infants especially spit a small of amount of milk out which is totally normal. It mostly happens when the baby's belly is full and the only way is to put some portion out.
Projectile vomiting is usually seen in a bit older babies. This too happens when they are completely full. Sometimes when they are on solids and eat in a hurry or gulp larger amounts too fast, that time it occurs.
Once they vomit, everything is out. Give few sips of water to drink. Give your routine food after sometime. No need of any kind of medicine.
Constipation:
Very common. Usually when the babies feed much or take less of fibres they experience constipation. Younger infants who are exclusively breastfed can go without passing stools for maximum 5 days too which is totally normal. When the stool is very hard to pass and very little in amount then it shows that the baby is constipated. How to avoid it?
See that your baby is hydrated well. If not breastfeeding, feed the formula milk in the required amount properly. The amount of water and the powder should be always proportionate. In older babies who are fed solids always include ghee or butter in their diet which is very essential for the smooth formation of faeces. Add fibre rich foods in their diet. When constipated take a bit of castor oil or ghee and just apply on their belly button and around the anus. Massage the belly gently. do the cycling moment of the legs in them. If you are giving iron drops and calcium syrup stop for a while and start later. Rice, sweet potato, lentils fruits like bananas, apples, musk melon are bulk producing foods.pp0 great for constipation.
Pricky heat/Rashes/diaper rashes:
Diaper rashes are very common because of the usage of diaper. Rashes in the private area is also common in chubby babies because of more friction between the skin. because of more fat and muscles there will be less gap between the thighs and wherever there are folds in the body parts.
You can apply coconut or pure almond oil before every diaper change. Look for rash creams which contain zinc in it. Use chemical free water wipes.
Prickly heat and rashes are one more problem which is irritating for babies. Skip soaps and any fragranced lotions if applying. Use milk cream, ghee or fine gram flour while bathing. Apply calamine lotion to soothe the area or overall after bath. You can also apply the dermadue cream which is really good.
Slight cold and cough in babies above 6 months:
Sometimes babies may have light, runny nose, bit of cough and appear dull. You can give this homeremedy which i have tried. Take 1 or two leaves of indian mint plant. Its very common everywhere. Its leaves are succulent and has a medicinal smell to it. Extract the juice about 1/2 tsp Add a pinch of jaggery to it and give them twice a day. You can also heat up its leaves a bit or the beetel leaves and place it on your babies's chest. Do it a couple of times. Still if the symptoms persit more than 2 days having fever then consult your doctor.
Teething process:
Teething process is very difficult for a baby. The symptoms come on and off, stay for a few days and vanish. May start as early as 4 months too. Babies in this phase experience irritation, pain in the gums, excessive drooling and loss of appetite. Untill the tooth erupts the symptoms appear and go. What you can do is give a gentle masage to the gums with clean fingers. Give them teethers to chew. If not eating solids give more amount of milk to compensate. Sometimes may pass stools too in little amounts like 5 to 6 times a day with greenish colour. Its normal. If the stool is more watery, runny with foul smell then consult your doctor.
Note: all the mentioned ailments above should only be treated at home when they are milder and do not last more than 2 or 3 days. You can exclude the teething process as the symptoms wont hamper the kids activities.
Consult the doctor if you see the below symptoms:
Fever.
rashes which are spreading and increasing.
Loss of appetite for more days.8k
Loose watery stools with foul smell, mucousy. Passing more than 5 timesa day.
Excessive crying and if the belly is too hard to touch.
Constipation more than 5 days.
Always with milder symptoms if the baby is active, happy and not loosing weight drasticaly then its perfectly alright.
I have mentioned a plant called indian mint its also called Mexican mint. Patta ajwain in hindi and dodda pattre in kannada. Its strongly flavored and even used in dishes.

5 Sensible Hacks to Get a Stunning Shoe-Rack
Storing your entire footwear collection in the closet can make it space-starved for apparel and accessories. So, should you buy extra closets to place your shoes? Not at all! With these creative shoe storage ideas, you can organise your footwear in affordable yet efficient style without the extra cost.
Sports shoes, dress shoes, school shoes, flip-flops, rain shoes...these are just a few types of footwear that you have to deal with. Struggling to stow them away so you get a modicum of neatness is every mom's bane. If you always have to contend with too many shoes and not enough space, even after chucking junk shoes, it's time to come up with space-saving shoe storage ideas that work for both small and large homes.
Creative Homes for Your Footwear
1. Floating Shoe Racks
Shoe racks are affordable and convenient solutions to tackle shoe storage woes. You can install a floating shoe rack or two in your bedroom. This beats standing racks that take up much more space. If you don't really like the idea of displaying your shoes for everyone to see, install the rack in a niche and cover the space with a pretty curtain. Try gluing multiple PVC cells to create a pipe shoe rack. You can spruce it up further by painting it in vivid colours.
2. Peek-a-Boo! Shoe Storage Solutions Under The Bed
There's plenty of space under the bed that's not fully tapped. If your children sleep on individual beds, you can ask them to store their shoes beneath them. While they could use the original shoeboxes, it'll be easier to access them from shoe organiser boxes that can slide right under. Another clever shoe storage idea is to attach shoe pouches beneath bedskirts. Nobody will ever know your storage secret but you'll have everyone wondering how you manage to keep your house so neat!
3. Get Shoe Wheels
You can save everyone from tripping over shoes by designating a specific shoe storage place for every family member and setting up shoe wheels. This creative shoe storage idea is often missed even though it's perfect for fitting into small corners. You can also get half wheels if one wheel will take too much space or buy both full and half wheels to place in different sized niches.
4. Try Shelves and Bags
Invest in wall-mounted shelves to flaunt your designer shoes. For a budget storage idea, you can hang economical shoe organiser bags on your bedroom wall. If you have any extra towel rods lying around, just mount them on a wall to hang up your heels, according to colour.
5. Vintage Shoe Storage!
Do you have any old ladders or wood crates lying around? You can upcycle them to create chic vintage-inspired shoe storage spaces. Those gorgeous heels that you take out only on special occasions can be hung on a painted ladder for quick access. If you have more space to spare, a wooden crate with a cover can make for a fine storage unit. You can even ask your little ones to paint pretty things on it and add a few cute stickers.
You can now create ample footwear space for everyone at home with these easy shoe storage solutions. Your children will find it easier than ever to keep their shoes where they belong and you'll have less of a headache trying to tidy up all the time. Enjoy a tumble and stumble-free home for you've earned it! Read more
