But, what we often don’t talk about is how overwhelming all of it can be. Knowing what to do and how to take care of a newborn can be tough for a lot of new moms. We’re here to make it easier for you!
Important Newborn Baby Products Every New Mom Needs
There are a few essentials every newborn baby requires to remain healthy and happy. The unfamiliar environment can be harsh on your little one’s skin, so it’s extremely crucial to take care of it. In case you’re wondering where to start, we have a concise list of baby items you will need to take care of your little baby. These are essentials that will be your constants throughout your journey with your infant, so read on and don’t hesitate to save the list!
1. Baby Oil
Massaging a baby with baby oil is something that is generational – our mothers did it to us, and our naanis and daadis did it to our parents! The process of massaging your baby is crucial as it helps keep her sensitive skin soft and full of moisture. It also works the muscles, which enhances physical growth. Don’t compromise on baby oil and massages; it’ll be a great bonding moment for you and the baby!
2. Baby Wipes
This is quite important as well. Baby wipes are meant for your little one’s soft, supple skin – they help in keeping the baby’s skin clean. You will need these wipes during diaper changes, or during summer months when your baby’s skin needs hydrating. Choosing soft baby wipes that do not have a strong scent is the best option for your baby.
3. Diapers
There are 3 things your baby will do most often – eat, sleep, and poop! Good quality diapers are important for your baby’s health and well-being, because a bad diaper can cause wetness, rash, and discomfort. When looking for diapers, make sure it has these important qualities – how much it can absorb, how soft it is, and how snugly it fits. The Huggies Ultra Soft range and Huggies Wonder Pants have super absorbent layers that soak efficiently. The material is soft and breathable, which will provide your baby with comfort as she plays or sleeps. Huggies diapers also come in different sizes, so you can choose according to your baby’s age and size for a comfortable fit. They are easy to use as well, so you don’t have to worry about your baby throwing a tantrum for being held still for too long!
4. Baby Skincare Products
Your little one’s skin needs utmost care and love, and that is non-negotiable! Choosing the right skincare products for your baby – baby shampoo, soap, body lotion, diaper rash cream and baby powder – is very important. Remember that your baby’s skincare products should be:
dermatologically tested
hypoallergenic
paediatrician approved
gentle on your baby’s skin
without any fragrance
Once you’re sure of these, you can use the product on your baby. Make sure the products you use don’t dry your baby’s skin out, for that can cause more problems.
5. Baby Thermometer
Baby’s bath time can be time for mommy and baby to bond! The temperature of water for your baby’s bath should be favourable so she can have fun and get clean – cold water can make your baby susceptible to illness, while hot water can scald her. To make sure her bath water is always at the right temperature, keep a baby thermometer handy. Remember that a baby’s bath temperature should be between 37 and 38 degree Celsius.
6. Swaddle Cloth
When we talk of baby care, we can’t forget swaddling! To keep your baby snug and calm, get a comfortable, soft swaddling cloth that is light on the skin and does not let the baby overheat. You can also get a swaddle wrap that doubles as a towel so that you can use it immediately after your baby's bath, leaving no chance of her catching a cold. Make sure to take her out of it soon and cover her with a dry swaddle cloth later on!
7. Comfortable Onesies
We’re sure you want your baby to be comfortable at all times, whether you’re at home or out and about. Invest in good quality onesies made of light and breathable material so your baby can remain cool and happy– however, make sure you don’t buy very expensive ones as your little munchkin will grow out of them in a jiffy!
8. A High Chair
This will come in handy a little later, but it’s an important buy nonetheless! A high chair can be great for your baby as she grows and learns to hold things using her fingers, which includes the food you will feed her. You can keep the food on the tray table in front of her and feed her with ease. High chairs these days come with several features like adjustable height, reclining options, adjustable footrest, etc., so take your pick! Make sure you check how sturdy it is in order to prevent accidents.
9. Comfortable Stroller
Taking long walks with your little one out in the fresh air – a stroller can make this experience better! A good stroller has a good quality canopy that covers and protects your baby from the harsh sunlight, has enough space, and provides a safety harness to prevent accidents. Make sure to get a stroller that isn't made of heat-absorbent material, for it can make the entire stroller warm and cause discomfort to your baby.
So, this was our list of baby essentials that every new mom should know about and have. Having these baby items handy will keep you stress-free, as they will be your faithful companions for a long time as your baby grows!

Differences In The Way Your Baby Feels About His Mom and His Dad
Mother's being the ones that carry the baby in the womb and breatsfeed the baby once she is born as glorified and rightfully so. It is then assumed that babies bond with mommies more than they do with daddies. Let's look at how babies bond with their daddies and how it is different from mother-child bonding.
Mother-child Bonding
Mother and child bonding begins right from conception, but it only heightens during labour. When the baby travels through the birth canal, oxytocin i.e the love hormone is released. This allegedly increases the bond. When the baby is placed on the mother's chest for the first time, the skin to skin contact only increases more. Because of a mother's role in her baby's life, with breastfeeding as a part and parcel, her role is that of a primary caregiver. This means the mommy-child bonding is immediate.
What about daddy then? Is he not as important to the baby?
Father-child Bonding
So many dads find it hard to figure their role out in their babies lives since most of the initial day caregiving comes from their wives. However, his role is unique but so very important in his baby's life. Since it is assumed that apart from the mother's voice during pregnancy, the father's is the second most heard by the baby. A dad too must sing to the baby, talk to her, and bond with the baby while still in the womb as voice recognition begins quite soon. Even once the baby is born, time spent holding the baby increases the bond. While the bond differs between mum and dad, there's no reason to say one is more than the other.
Let's have a look at the different stages and the factors that can play a role in the way your baby's feelings for you and your husband develop.
0-6 Months
This is the time when your little one will actually learn a lot of stuff as her cognitive, language and motor skills begin developing. This period will mark the period when your little one will learn to balance and recognize people and things around. In general, your baby will be everybody’s friend at this stage as he is learning to recognize faces. Your baby will slowly learn about the world around her through the everyday routine and the way you handle her.
These six months are crucial for both the baby’s mom and dad because your baby would emote to you more strongly than anyone else. The more time you spend with your little one, the better the comfort, security and bonding will be.
6-9 Months
Usually, at around the end of the 6th month, babies start developing emotions like insecurity and fear. This is because your baby is used to you being the caregiver and strangers are unfamiliar. If the father of the baby isn't around much, your baby may shy away from him as well. Do not be disappointed. Babies at this stage are breastfeeding and that increases the mother-baby bond. As your child grows and understands the concept of parents, her affection for her daddy will increase too.
From 9 months to 1 year
All the aforementioned fear usually goes away by now and your baby starts making new relationships more confidently. The bonding your baby has with not just the father, but also with close relatives like aunts, uncles and grandparents is beautiful to behold. At this stage, your baby will love to explore new faces and people and will learn to show affection to family members.
Babies are receptive to love from parents, and that is our biggest source of learning. The more love a baby gets from her parents, the more love she will show back to both her parents. As you love her, you will begin to realize that favouritism won't matter, you will just want to give her the best of yourself. Happy Parenting! Read more

Musical Skills in a 16 Months Old
Are you desirous of raising your kid with a lifelong love for music? Music and toddlers is a combination that requires some orchestrating. Simple things like singing along, playing music through a CD player, or setting the stage for off-tune sessions will help!
Are you planning to fine-tune your music-loving toddler to develop the right way? Well, it’s certainly easier than teaching them to use chopsticks, besides you needn't be a music wizard. All that’s required is the creation of a music-rich environment and the right tips for orchestrating a new musical beginning.
Raising Toddlers who Love Music the Right Way
1. Sing Songs for Imbibing Musical Skills in Toddlers
Most 16-months-old love music. Sing along with your toddler or sing for him. Chime in with a CD player or go solo. Regardless of what you do, you'll be setting the right stage for him to join in. So, instead of trying the full score of The Lion King and failing to hit the right notes go for something simpler. What about "Itsy-Bitsy Spider" or "Old MacDonald"? These old favourites will make your 16-month-old jive along even if you're off-key!
2. Create a Positive Attitude Towards Music
One of the many reasons why toddlers love music is because they aren't judgemental about the quality of songs that they hear. It's important to interact musically with your kids and show that you're not insecure about your voice. They need to know that you value music immensely. Unlike adults, children aren't critical about what falls on their ears and will love to hear you anyway.
3. Create a Musically Rich Environment
Music and toddlers get introduced to each other right from your first lullaby. Keep your home reverberating with musical chords. Strike up a band by popping in a tape, playing his favourite CD, or clicking on the radio. The idea is to get your kid excited about listening to or dancing along with music.
4. Introduce Different Kinds of Music
Kids will be receptive to diverse kinds of music be it classical, pop, Jazz, African, French or even Latin. To enrish their mind, give them a home filled with different languages, rhythms, instruments, and styles of music. Once they get older, say about 8 or 9 years, they are likely to pick a specific type of music and listen to it for a while.
5. Attend Concerts and Read About Music
Along with children's concerts and music seminars designed for pre-schoolers, you might also want to take your child to community concerts in the park or other outdoor settings. Also, invest in sing-along picture books or stories that talk of music, a la The Maestro Plays authored by Bill Martin Jr.
What’s more? Dance to music whenever possible, enrol your kid in children's music programs, and think of activities that involve simple instruments. Read more
