Your 32 Week Old Baby - Development, Milestones & Care
Can you believe your baby is growing so fast that he is almost eight months old now? By now your baby has probably started clapping his hands, crawling, and can even pick up small objects. Waking up less at night or taking more naps may be signs that your baby is channelling his energy into growing. Your baby will be enchanted and challenged by the world around him, and therefore, he will be needing you constantly and will not leave you for even a minute or two. His mobility means that as you go through your routine work, there will be a little shadow following you all around.
A 32 Week-Old Baby's Development
In between six and nine months, babies also show some suspicion when something out of the ordinary happens. Babies have no filter through which they can hide their emotions (suffering, pain, sorrow, anger). In addition to that, they have limited experiences overall, so they face many novel situations in which they’ll display categorical fear. At those moments, your child will turn towards you for comfort and reassurance. Babies may also gain a lot of body fat as there is a developmental stage. With each day, he is learning new ways of discovering his environment. Starts to get perfect with skills. You might notice that he is more resistant when you pick him up, dress him, or change his clothes. Instead of playing randomly, now he wants to play with whatever and wherever his hand could reach, he focuses on interesting objects like pens, toys, shoes, kitchen utensils, mobile phones, etc. All these activities will help in building both large and fine motor skills of your baby.

A Thirty-Two Week-Old Baby's Milestones
Here is a summary of skills that are developed in the 32 week grown babies - either now or in near future. Keep in mind that these milestones may differ within a range of few weeks which is again normal.
Dropping and throwing: Your baby will be thrilled to discover that by now they have got much better control over their hands and fingers, so they can drop things for you to pick up and perhaps even throw things. This will not be a thrill for you!
Speech: By now he may start saying “mamma”, “Papa”, and may also start waving his hand to say bye-bye.
Emotional development: Your baby may get more anxious if they don’t find you around. They may also be able to differentiate between the familiar and unfamiliar people. They can now crawl hastily, grasp things with her thumb and finger and try to put them into the mouth.
Teeth: By now two or more teeth may have appeared which may increase the tendency of chewing up things.
Feeding: Baby may start holding things by himself, therefore may start loving biscuits, boiled vegetables etc.
Gestures: Gestures will be a part of his regular vocabulary by now. Babies will start using their hands, shake his head, or push you if they want something.

Feeding
By now breastfeeding would have been comparatively less painful experience. Even the discomforts and fear due to the arrival of his new teeth will be pain-free because when he is actively taking the feed, his tongue will completely cover the teeth, which means, the sharp teeth will not hurt your nipple. Now that he has his first teeth, he may start exploring new adventure of biting! But don’t be afraid and be assured that feedings is not a painful experience. There are many ways which can help you to eliminate from being bitten by your little one.
Understand one thing, biting you is not at all done purposely to hurt you. While feeding you may experience his teeth piercing, or even slightly denting, on your tender skin. One of the reason can be all the feeds given in same position, due to which you might develop a sore spot from the repeated pressure by his teeth. Therefore, you can alternate the positions in which you give feeds. Another idea is to make him play with toys (plastic used for manufacturing toys should not be toxic) and make him eat chewable food which will reduce the edges of sharp teeth and relieve the pressure which is developed inside the teeth. Another way is to recognize his biting behaviour. This can be done by making note of the way he takes the feed and observing the change in a pattern of sucking and take him away promptly before he could bite you. In case you are being bitten by him, show your discontentment and put him away from you. To make him understand, you will need to do this many a times, as his memory is still on the developing stage, he might take time to understand the message.
Biting is again a sign of development; some babies bite reflexively to whatever comes in his mouth. Therefore, try introducing bottles, dummies, sippy cups, chilled carrot, cucumber or watermelon slice.

Sleeping
Now because he is able to use his newly developed physical motor skills, he will be rolling on bed or floor, crawling or may also try to stand on his own, they will keep practicing it for hours and hours. All of these activities can shorten, the happy hours' sleep, or may have vanished totally! For 32 week old baby, sleep is an essential component for his growth physically and mentally, therefore, try to be consistent in his nap schedule for a proper routine of naps each day. Morning and afternoon naps are much needed, your baby should have a nap time of at least half an hour. In case he skips any of the naps make him sleep early at night. There should not be any compromise for your baby’s sleep, this is because, good sleep will help with good physical growth and mental development.

A 32 Week-Old Baby's Care Tips
As he is growing, his motor skills get triggered and he starts exploring new things new places. Now that you know about all the sorts of mischief he may start, you may probably start worrying about his safety. You may try securing him from getting hurt by making your home a safe place. To make sure your home is safe, here are some tips:
Make sure that corner and edge of your furniture are cushioned so that when your baby falls while he is learning to walk, he won't get hurt when he hits his head on the table.
The cabinets and drawers are always locked.
Door of your toilet, rooms are always closed in a way that your baby cannot open it.
Outlets of the plug should be covered so that your baby can’t get electrocuted.
Tests and Vaccinations
By now you must be aware of different vaccinations that are important and mandatory for the growing babies to fight against the harsh environment. Therefore, to remind you again, at eight months, your baby would need Hepatitis B and IPV booster.
Games and Activities
To help him in developing his motor skills and strengthen his muscles, you can introduce different activities. Teach him stacking objects using colourful plastic cups. Now that your baby has adapted to sit, use of toy cars or other wheeled toys will help him to enjoy and play around. Hide under the curtains and ask him to uncover you or hide objects under a towel and encourage him to uncover them, such activities will strengthen his concept of permanence.

When to Consult a Doctor
To watch your little angel grow is an enthralling experience but also analyzing the way he is developing will help you to overcome the persistent fear for his well-being. Always remember that spotting out the delay in development and growth of your baby will help in better diagnosis. Therefore, if your 32 weeks old baby is getting fussy, or you see signs like stiff muscles, does not laugh with squealing sound, does not exhibit any sign of affection, sensitive to light, doesn't bear weight on legs or is unable to sit even with support, doesn't respond to her own name, doesn't play any games, doesn't recognize familiar people, then consult a paediatrician for early intervention.
Every child is different but will behave in a somewhat similar manner, maybe sooner or later. Some children warm up quickly; others take a longer time. Be patient and enjoy this time with your baby as she is moving and getting acquainted with new people, new environments, and new conditions. Happy mommy'ing!

Are Too Many Toys Harming Your Child's Development?
Holidays are not far and you must be thinking of ways to keep your kids busy, right? If you are again planning to buy toys for your kids, then think again! Don't your kids have too many toys, already? What parents must know is that excessive toys do not enhance creativity in children. According to child behaviour experts, too many toys distract kids and reduce their focused. Many studies have suggested that playing with too many toys could affect the concentration level of kids and even hamper creativity, life skills, social interactions, imagination, mental health, and team spirit. Now, you must be wondering “should I stop giving my kids toys? If not, how many should I give them?” Read on to know more.
How Many Toys Are "Too Many"?
In today's times, children do not have one or two toys, they have unlimited toys which is the problem. Parents are also sometimes responsible for this problem of 'too many' toys. Giving too many toys to your child does not help him much and makes him demand for more. According to some conservative avenues of thought, kids should not be given any toys at all. This made certain daycare centres around the world implement a ‘no-toys’ policy in the year 1992. As per a study by the researchers at the University of Toledo, Ohio in the US, playing with too many toys curb the creativity of children, whereas playing with fewer toys can help in their overall development.
As a thumb rule, you could get your child a few select toys that will act as an aid to his various developmental needs. They could be toys that encourage reading habits (puzzles), music skills (classroom instruments), pretend-play (like playing house), sharpen their imagination and creativity (art sets), problem-solving skills (scrabble), stimulate physical activities (building blocks), etc.
Why Are Parents Tempted to Buy More Toys for Their Children?
Kids can’t buy toys for themselves. So, obviously, parents are the ones who are encouraging the habit and getting dozens of toys for their kids whenever they demand. There are a few reasons why parents of this age keep buying toys after toys for their kids:
Some parents feel that their kid would lose out if they don’t buy the latest toys. With the aim of giving the best to their child, they buy every new thing available in the market.
Some parents are themselves tempted by commercials that show new toys that they want those toys for their kids and think that those toys would make their kids happy.
Some parents are too busy and use toys to appease the kids and fill in for the time that they cannot give to the child.
Other parents give in to the demands of kids for more toys. And one of the worst things to do is when parents repeatedly bribe their kids with toys to get something done.
Others may like the sense of luxury, opulence and status by getting more toys and expensive toys.
Why Shouldn't Children Be Given Too Many Toys?
As a parent, you must know that too many toys harm a child more than they good. Too many toys can affect the development of a child whereas fewer toys can benefit him. Here are a few reasons why you must not give too many toys to your little kid:
Toys are like an addiction and can become the root of other addiction when your kid grows up.
If you give in to your kid's demand for too many toys, he will take you for granted and keep asking for things.
If you give in to the demands of your kid and give him toys whenever he asks, he will not value the things he receives. Kids do not value things if they get it whenever they ask.
If your child has too many toys, there is a chance that he might waste things and not appreciate them.
If they have too many toys, they will go from one toy to another. This might lessen their attention and concentration. Playing with too many toys can also cause a high level of distraction as a child grows.
Kids have a better appetite at home with fewer toys. Bribing them with a toy that comes with a burger can only lessen their love for home food.
Getting too many toys for kids can curb their creativity and imagination skills as they will not experiment with household stuff to create their own playthings.
Playing with too many toys can also result in frequent boredom in children. Playing with one toy for a long time can irritate a child and he may look for new things to get over the boredom and even any kind of stress. Boredom comes easily because kids know they will get something new when they ask for it. Toys may turn into an addiction to fight boredom and stress. They may grow up and show the same traits.
Kids with fewer toys have better social capabilities as they grow up because they have more time to converse and communicate with friends and family.
Kids with fewer toys take care of things better because they have less and so they realise the value of those toys and hence keep them safe.
Kids with lesser toys have more interest in reading, writing, art and other constructive activities. These activities help them value beautiful things, human emotions, interactions, conversations, sense of bonding and various other beneficial life skills.
With lesser toys, kids become more resourceful in doing things with whatever is at hand. They learn to do more with less.
If you thought more toys would keep your kids from fighting, then you are wrong. The more the toys, the more the possessiveness, selfishness, and territorial attitude. This causes more quarrels and inability to share, give and work as a team.
Kids with fewer toys have neat and clean rooms and keep this habit later in life.
Kids with fewer toys spend more time outdoors and engage in physical activities that are vital to their healthy mental and physical development.
What Can Parents Do
As wise parents, you can do a few things to resist the temptation of buying toys for your kids and to stop your kids from demanding more and more toys.
1. Space Management
Don’t create a huge toy storage space in your kid's bedroom. Keep it small so that the toy space looks full and the desire for more is restricted due to lack of space. Teach your kid to give away to less privileged when the storage area overflows with too many toys.
2. Commercial Break
Keep your kid away from advertisements on TV and malls that might encourage him to buy more toys. Television commercials can make your child demand new item every other day, so stop your child from watching too much of television every day and let him play outdoors.
3. Select Wisely
When you are selecting a toy, understand how it can help your child develop. Don’t buy for the sake of buying. Buy toys like puzzles or blocks as these can help in the brain development of your child. So, find out the benefits of the toys and then pick it up for your kiddo.
4. Break the Trend
Sometimes parents buy toys because of pressure. On seeing that other parents are buying expensive toys for their kids, you might be tempted to buy the same for your kid to make him happy, but you must realise that toys won't make your child happy in the end. Break the trend, don't follow what other parents are doing. Break the pattern and be a trendsetter in propagating the ‘less is more’ ideology. Make your kid realise the importance of what he has.
5. Reduce, Recycle, Reuse
Give your kid sturdy, long-lasting toys that become unforgettable. For instance, a jigsaw when complete, that looks like your pet dog. Also, teach him to fix and re-use the toys.
6. Family Activities
When your child gets bored playing with one toy, don't give him another. Try to shift his focus on family activities, sports, picnics, theatre, music, art, and all things that help in his overall development.
7. Create from Scrap
Help your kid create his own play stuff with scrap at home like a costume for a school fest or fancy-dress party, a birthday ‘origami’ gift with a card for a friend, a get-well-soon picture frame for an unwell cousin, etc. This will improve your child's imagination skills and unleash his creative side.
Try these ways to help in the overall development of your child. Instead of buying new toys for your kid, indulge him in new and creative activities. Allow children to be a part of activities that promote togetherness, family time, social interactions, team spirit, and bonding. These activities will improve the mental health of your child, boost imagination and creativity and build positive life skills in him.

Why Your Toddler Talking to Himself Is a Good Thing
Self-talking in children can concern some parents. But is it really worrisome? Learn how self-talk is a display of kids' growing imaginary world and the way they connect real-life objects with that world. It's a phase that's as important as it is interesting!
Most kids engage in self-talk, either with themselves or with their toys. This is a self-talk child development trait that occurs at a certain period in toddlers’ lives. Although self-talk is seen in adults and children too, it is more observed in kids. Find out what it signifies and whether you need to be concerned or not.
Conversations with Inanimate Objects: The Why
Self-talk in kids is related to their cognitive development. Studies show that it’s a form of communication that kids participate in in their imaginary world. The characters they converse with in this fanciful universe may be the same as in real life, but a toddler talking to himself actually perceives himself playing a different role other than himself. In this role, he may imitate what he’s seen others do. Toys can also play important characters in this world, which is why toddlers speak to them.
1. Developmental Aspects Associated with Kids’ Self-talk
If you are a parent to a kid who ages between 3 and 5 years, you may ask whether it’s normal for toddlers to talk to themselves. According to child psychologists, it’s kids’ way of expressing their innermost feelings and thoughts. Moreover, this trait also helps them familiarise with their environment, leading to a better hold of language. The next time you see your toddler talking to his toys, rest assured that he’s only going through a phase and will outgrow it in time.
2. How Toddlers’ Self-talk Differs from Adults’
Unlike adults, self-talk in toddlers is more obvious and even loud. They forget the environment they are in and are transported to their imaginary world. They may question themselves and their toys loudly and use gestures too. These self-conversations demonstrate examples of private speech in children and are completely unilateral. They can be termed as egocentric speech.
Self-talking in children also encompasses a three-stage action – private speech about a completed action or plan, an action in progress, and finally, the conclusion. This process may be repeated many times to form a story.
3. How Self-talk Benefits Your Child
Numerous studies have shown that self-talking is beneficial for kids. Here are some important advantages that you must note:
Intelligence is the most significant factor of self-talk in child development. Kids with a higher frequency of self-talk are looked into as being smarter than those who don’t engage in it.
When a toddler self-talks, he shows his acquaintance and family about the concepts he has learned in the real world. This should reassure you that your child is developing.
Do you often see your toddler having conversations with toys and himself? It shows he’s less capricious and is his self-control is improving. Impulsive children, on the other hand, may be prompted to use verbal commands and may need guidance to talk to themselves.

Self-Talking - When to Worry
Self-talking in toddlers is only natural. Children relish day-dreaming and having unfathomable talks with their inanimate friends. They can have endless conversations with imaginary friends, like pets and inanimate dolls and teddy bears. Mostly, they repeat what they hear from their parents. It signifies their curiosity to learn about new things and brain development.
However, if a child is repeating the same sentence, it is a matter of concern. Self-talking and repetitive talk go along, but if it continues for long, the child might have developmental difficulties. Repetitive self-talking is sometimes a symptom of autism in children. If you notice that on making certain changes in your child’s schedule, he gets upset and indulges in self-talking to calm himself, you should soon consult a doctor. You should not form your assumptions too soon. Self-talking and repetitive talk cannot be considered as a conclusive factor to determine if your child is autistic or not. The signs of autism in children are more complex. Self-talk, on the other hand, is a steppingstone to their development.
Self-talking in toddlers is very common especially between 3-5 years of age. Hereafter, the habit gradually recedes. Read more

Studies Claim That Dads Are Happier Than Moms - Do You Agree?
Parenthood isn’t a cakewalk – it’s a lot of dedicated time, effort and resources into raising your little one into a happy, healthy person. We understand that it is a 24-hour job, but the joy of watching your toddler laugh, take his first steps and run to you is priceless. Motherhood is considered the greatest joy in the world – but recent studies tell us the opposite tale!
In a study conducted by researchers in the University of California (UC) Riverside on 18,000 people, the results suggested that fathers are happier and have a better well-being as compared to mothers when raising a baby. The study considered several factors under ‘well-being’: happiness, depressive symptoms, psychological satisfaction, and stress. Among all these factors, fathers ranked higher than mothers.
Now, raising babies is not easy, and we all know it – but why are moms unhappier than dads? We’re digging a little deeper!
Since childhood, girls are taught that being a mother is the single greatest joy a woman can feel. Girls grow up with this in their minds - ‘no matter what, we will experience true bliss only when we have kids’. Girls are also told that motherhood is something that comes ‘naturally’ to them, which affects them as grown-ups when they feel like they are not doing a good job raising their little ones. The same kind of pressure is not put on boys, and that is where the disparity begins.
Boys and girls are put under two different sets of roles from a young age – boys will be the earners and put the food on the table for their family, and girls will handle domestic responsibilities and raise future generations. Even though times have changed and more and more girls are studying and working, the expectations of motherhood put on them have not moved too much. So, women struggle to juggle work and home life, while men can solely focus on progressing without any guilt.
When it comes to raising a child, people say that a mother is the greatest influence on the child. But we also forget that fathers play a role that is as important as just earning for the house – they have an equal responsibility over the child that the couple raises together. The study suggests that fathers are happier because of the way they spend time with their child. This could indicate that fathers interact with their kids in a relatively stress-free manner, whereas moms - while they too intend on doing the same - often are not able to do so.
To be fair, the study may not be the be-all and end-all of understanding families and parents, given that the roles could be far from the cliche in some homes. But the study definitely puts a spotlight on the invisible workload mothers have in the family – to raise the baby to be the best, to handle domestic work, and to handle their career dreams and aspirations.
To all the fathers out there, your wife is probably more stressed out than you can imagine! It would be wonderful to communicate how grateful you are to her and also work on finding an equal parenting plan together. This will also strengthen your relationship as a couple, and you will contribute to raising a well-rounded child! It’s a win-win! To all the mommies out there who are tirelessly working – we see you, we’re proud of you, and we would love for you to relax and take it easy! You can start by taking just 10 minutes out of your day!

A. Typically, your bump becomes noticeable during your second trimester. Between 16-20 weeks, your body will start showing your baby's growth. For some women, their bump may not be noticeable until the end of the second trimester and even into the third trimester. The second trimester starts in the fourth month.
