Short names for babies are becoming increasingly popular in the modern day, as they are stylish and easy to pronounce too. Short names will make it easy for your child to interact with a lot of people in the future, and ensure that she is always remembered by everyone who hears the name. You can also use them as their nicknames. Good things do come in short packages and short names are being considered better than their longer alternatives.
Short nicknames for girls used to be the norm in the earlier generations, as it was harder for people to address their child using her full name always. The other option for parents was to give their child a short middle name, which would then complement a long first name. However, people are increasingly breaking away from this trend nowadays. Short names are becoming the first names, which add a unique effect whenever the name is pronounced. As they consist of few letters and not more than two syllables, the names have a powerful tone, and also have the adequate amounts of rhythm and simplicity that every name must have. However, in your search for short names, do not just throw together two random sounds and call your child that - every name must have a meaning, something that the girl can relate with. This is where this list comes in handy - meanings to a name are a necessity, as it is such a huge part of who your child grows up to become. So, pick a short name with the perfect meaning, and empower your child for life!

Constipation after Delivery: Reasons & Treatment
Constipation is the hardening of stool when the intestines remove excess water from the faecal matter. A study has shown that pregnant women who are more than 35 years of age and have a high BMI are likely to suffer from constipation.
What Causes Postpartum Constipation?
Caesarean Section: The anaesthetics used during the surgery slows down the digestive system causing stool with low water content.
Iron Supplements: Most women are anaemic after delivery because of blood loss and hence iron supplements are given to them to improve the iron content in their body. Unfortunately, iron feeds the pathogenic bacteria in the intestine, causing constipation.
Assisted Delivery: In case of difficult deliveries, the usage of instruments like Forceps or Ventouse may put excess strain on the anal region which may lead to constipation.
Medication: Heavy medication like morphine, Vicodin, and Percocet can also slow down the digestive system.
Hormones: The presence of hormones like progesterone during pregnancy also slows down the digestion and may leave you feeling constipated.
Dehydration: Poor water content in the stool leads to constipation.
Low Fibre Diet: Fibre is needed for the smooth bowel movement in the human body. Any absence of the same can lead to a sluggish digestive system.
Prenatal Vitamins: Women who are breastfeeding often consume multi-vitamins to improve their nutritional intake. Unfortunately, many of these contain iron which can cause constipation.
Haemorrhoids: Many women develop haemorrhoids after a vaginal delivery, which are painful.
Anxiety: Many women suffer from anxiety which can slow down bowel movement.
Does it Hurt When You Poop?
It is likely to hurt if you have haemorrhoids or have anal fissures. However, anal fissures heal within a few weeks and the haemorrhoids will shrink in the following months.
How to Treat Constipation?
A common issue, constipation is something which can easily be dealt with at home. Here are a few common remedies:
Home Remedies:
Constipation after delivery isn’t a serious medical emergency and can often be managed by the following home remedies:
Fruit Juices: As per studies, certain fruits like apples and pears have a substance called sorbitol which aids in alleviating constipation.
Drinking Water: Drinking adequate amounts of water can help reduce the dryness of stool and prevent hardening.
Eating Oatmeal: As an insoluble fibre, oatmeal helps to increase the pace of bowel movement.
Massages: Massages are a non-invasive way to relieve constipation. Massaging different parts of the colon can help strengthen its walls and loosen the stool at the same time.
Natural Laxatives: Laxatives are known to induce bowel movement. One can use natural laxatives like prunes, flax seeds and coconut water.
Mild Exercises: Another non-invasive technique, a 30-minute walk can help speed up the digestive process.
Probiotics: Although not researched on enough, probiotics have been found to aid bowel movement and make the stool soft.
Ginger Tea: A mild laxative, ginger tea also helps to promote appetite and digestion. However, one must avoid this if they are diabetic as it can affect the absorption of the diabetic medication.
Lemon Water: The high acid content helps in speeding up the digestive system which alleviates constipation.
Steps You Can Follow To Go To The Loo
If you’re suffering from constipation, you can try the following steps:
Step 1: You can go for a short walk to get your bowels moving.
Step 2: You can try drinking a cup of coffee as it acts as a natural laxative
Step 3: Wait for the right moment and don’t force yourself to go
Step 4: Preferably go to an Indian style toilet when the time comes. If you’re using a western toilet, put a stool under your feet to raise them at a level above your hips.
Step 5: Rather than excessive straining which can cause tears in the anus, breathe deeply by making sure your pelvis contracts.
Step 6: Relax your sphincter muscles when you feel the stool coming out for a satisfying experience.
Exercises That Can Help Ease Constipation After Childbirth
Walking: A simple walk for as little as 30 minutes every day can keep constipation at bay.
Cat and Cow Pose: This is a yoga exercise which helps benefit your stomach muscles. You start off by putting your hands and knees to the ground. Arch your back downward in such a way that your stomach moves closer to the ground. This is the cow pose. Now arch your back upwards while simultaneously moving your head and hips to the ground. This is known as the cat pose. This is to be repeated 5 times.
Wind Relieving Pose: This helps in the release of flatulence trapped within the intestines. Lay flat on the ground with your back to the floor and hug your right leg in a way that your thigh touches your rib cage. Hold the pose for 90 seconds and switch to the left leg.
Extended Puppy Pose: This exercise helps to stretch out the stomach muscles, which helps to reduce cramping. Start off with putting your hands and knees to the ground. Then gently stretch your arms forward while simultaneously lowering your head and chest towards the ground.
Triangle Pose: The twisting involved in this exercise helps to activate the digestive juices and aids bowel movement. Extend your legs about 3 feet apart such that your feet and hips form the vertices of a triangle. Use your right hand to grab your right ankle while simultaneously raising your left hand to the ceiling. After holding this position for 30 seconds, switch sides.
Forward Bend: This puts pressure on the abdomen and helps kick-start bowel movement. Stand upright with your face at the 12 o’clock position and raise your hands perpendicular to the floor. Gradually move your hands down in the direction of your face till it reaches your shoulders. Then move your entire torso along with your hands in a downward direction till your hands reach the ground and your head reaches the level of your knees.
Laxatives To Relieve Constipation
As you are likely to be under medication, please consult your doctor before taking over the counter laxatives. You can try natural laxatives such as castor oil or coconut oil as an alternative.
How Long Does Post Pregnancy Constipation Last?
Constipation after caesarean delivery or vaginal delivery is very common but not a serious condition as it can ideally be cured in a matter of days.
When is There A Need To Worry?
One may need to go to the doctor if there is bleeding or constipation continues for more than three weeks.
It is important to remember that constipation after cesarean delivery, though it is a common problem, can be eased by diet and lifestyle changes. Make sure you stay aware of your intake of roughage and fluids to manage the discomfort.

How to Keep Your Bathroom Safe for Your Child
For children, bathrooms are meant to be fun places to enjoy a bath. Unfortunately, it has been estimated that 90 children die every year due to bathroom hazards like drowning in the bathtub- just 3 inches extra of water is enough to submerge a child. Parents sometimes are busy doing other chores or just fail to notice before it's too late. Therefore, let's talk about the bathroom safety of your child.
Bathroom Safety Tips for Your Child's Protection
The following safety tips and precautions can keep your child protected in the bathroom:
1. Never Leave Your Child Alone in the Bathtub
The running water can make the tub overflow, thus seriously harming your child. Instead of letting your attention drift away, make sure you never leave your child alone in the bathroom, especially if he knows how to work the faucets.
2. Install Scald-Guards In Faucets
Death by scalding is another possibility besides drowning. To make sure the water temperature isn't too high, don't crank the geyser beyond 120 degree F. Additionally, install scald-guards in faucets since these monitor the temperature of the water and let you know if it's too hot for your child.
3. Say Yes to Showers
If you're unsure that your child is ready for the bathtub yet, try showering instead. There's no drowning, everybody gets cleaned up, and it's a win-win for both.
4. Drain Out Excess Water
You might have mastered the art of bathing your kids in the bathtub, but the floor isn't as friendly once you're done bathing your child, especially if he enjoys splashing around. Puddles of water on the floor lead to slips, falls and unexpected accidents. Make sure to mop out any remaining water and dry the floor before he gets out of the tub.
5. Use A Baby Gate
Children like to do things when adults aren't watching, like going to the bathroom to do some splashing. Installing baby gates near toilet doors as bathroom safety are thus good for your child. That way, he can't enter, which means less worrying for you.
6. Use Cushioned Covers on Faucets
Steel water faucets are dangerous as they have sharp edges. There's also a risk of your baby bumping and hitting his head on hard surfaces. Cushioned covers absorb the shock and minimise injury in the bathtub.
7. Seal the Toilet Lids Shut
Babies and toddlers may slip and fall through the toilet lid while prancing around. Use a toilet lid lock or device to seal it during times you leave your child unattended.
8. Invest in High-Rise Shelves and Cabinets
Your shampoos and razor blades are like treasure hunting moments for your child. Looking at the beautiful pictures and sleek designs, he may be tempted to give those a try, or drink your cleaning products out of curiosity. You don't want that, and the best way to prevent it is by keeping them tucked away from his reach on high wall shelves and cabinets.
9. Unplug the Electronics
Most of us have curling irons and blow dryers in our bathrooms. When you leave them plugged in and turn away for a moment, your child falls at risk of being severely injured by them. The solution is to unplug and turn off these devices whenever you're with your child in the bathroom.
10. Pay Attention at All Times
Prevention is better than cure, and the best way to pay heed to this is by constantly keeping a watch. Make sure there are no choking hazards in the bathtub, and teach your child against gulping soapy water when bathing.
Additional Bath Time Safety Tips for Infants and Kids
For your child's benefit, here are some additional bath time safety tips:
Keep cosmetics, soaps, shampoos, and medicines out of reach. Install safety locks in cabinets as extra measures.
Ask an electrician to set up ground-fault circuit interrupters for shutting down electrical appliances in an instant when they fall into the bathtub, in order to prevent injuries.
Don't keep the water level beyond 2 to 3 inches for babies and young toddlers in the tub.
Use a kitchen sink to bathe your infant instead of a bathtub for additional safety.
Hold your baby and provide physical support while bathing to prevent slips/falls.
Baby proof the floor and cabinets, always.
Do not ever leave your baby alone in the bathroom.
Set up the bathroom doors in a way they can be unlocked from outside in case your child locks himself in.
How to Prevent Your Child from Drowning in the Bathtub?
Never leave your child beyond your arm's reach before, during, and after bathing as a rule of thumb. Also, never leave them alone while bathing.
Following these suggestion will help keep your child safe. As a parent, remember to watch him like a hawk during bath times since anything could go wrong in an instant.

Baby Care Post Vaccination
It is observed that after vaccination, a fever of 99 to 101 Fahrenheit is recorded in some babies as their body produces antibodies after getting vaccinated, so it is evident that fever will occur. But if the fever doesn't go away after two days or if the temperature crosses 102 Fahrenheit, then we have to think about going to Doctor as the baby doesn't feel comfortable with a high fever. They stop taking food and will cry continuously after taking the vaccine, consult a doctor for medication if a high fever occurs, and maintain the baby's body temperature. Monitoring your baby constantly after vaccination for 3-4 days is compulsory.
Try to use loose clothes for babies during fever and continuously check whether their temperature is reducing or not as after giving medication, the fever should reduce after 20 mins. Use clean and hygienic clothes for the baby; always stay with the baby as it needs you. At the time of high fever, your baby will feel very uncomfortable. You should be with your baby always and observe any changes in the baby's behavior. Generally, doctors will prescribe Paracetamol Drops for babies. These drops will reduce the fever in 15- 20 minutes after feeding them, and slight pain will be there when the vaccine is injected. Sometimes you will see swelling and redness in the area of the vaccination, which is typical. Apply some cold water-absorbed cloth on that specific area, and that will reduce pain. Some people use lukewarm water, which will also reduce pain, but it is expected that pain will occur and it will vanish in one or two days. If the pain or swelling persists even after two days, please consult your doctor and get proper medication. Changes in a baby post getting a vaccination is typical, so don't get worked up; stay calm and let your baby's immunity do its job! Happy parenting...
