Feed Your Baby the Ayurveda Way
Every mom's concern "Is my baby eating right?" What, when and how are the commonly asked questions. Find your answers the Ayurveda way.
Our ancient text 'Kashyap Samhita' mentions stages of baby's life on basis of food she eats.
1. Kshirap Stage
This is approx from birth to 6 months of age when baby is only on milk (kshir). So the first six months baby should be strictly on milk. Mother's milk is definitely the best source no doubt but in case mother is unable to feed the baby then there are other sources of milk like cow, buffalo, goat, etc. Nowadays formula milk is also available.
2. Kshirannada Stage
This stage consists of milk and anna (solids) which is after 6 months of baby's age and may last upto 18 to 24 months. During this time milk should still be baby's main meal but other solids should also be introduced to her. At first start with liquid diet then the semisolids and lastly the solids. Foods like fruit juices, vegetable and lentil soups, porridge of ragi, wheat, suji, rice gruel and lastly soft and well-cooked rice.
3. Annada Stage
This stage is after 18 to 24 months when the baby is on solid food as her main diet. This is the age when she starts all her physical activities. Also, her schooling, interaction with friends etc begins so she needs lot of energy. She should be given all the cereals, pulses, vegetables, fruits to be healthy. After the age of 2 years non-vegetarian food can be gradually introduced to the baby depending on her likes.
Never insist her on any particular food if she firmly resists. Baby should love the food she eats. Make the meal more interesting with different shapes like faces, stars, moon, etc. Naturally coloured vegetables like carrots, beetroots, palak etc also fascinate the kids. Live life the Ayurveda way!

Kid-Friendly Tips to Beat Boarding School Depression
Going off to boarding school is an exciting but also frightening experience for a preteen used to being at home. Making the move from a loving, caring home is bound to give your little one homesickness. Helping him settle down in boarding school will make sure he makes the most of it.
If you are sending your preteen to boarding school, be prepared for an onslaught of mixed emotions. While your kid will be geared up about the independence, he will also be stressed about the unfamiliar environment. Kids can suffer from bouts of loneliness and if untreated, they may become prone to depression! As a mother, you must keep in constant touch with the school and teachers to make sure boarding school bodes well with your child.
How to Get your Child to Love Boarding School?
1. Be Prepared
Involve your kid in shopping, labelling, marking and packing for school so she feels more excited than nervous. Help your child stick to rules for study time and dress code to set a pattern for the day. An early reprimand for breaking a rule can set the tone for your child's stay at school.
2. Teach Your Kid to Be Organised
One of the biggest changes for the child will be to learn to look after herself and her belongings. Encourage her to be organised through lists, folded clothes, a neat wardrobe and books in order. Lost belongings cannot be replaced instantaneously like at home so tell her to be careful!
3. Encourage Your Kid to Find a Buddy
Some schools have a buddy system where two children are responsible for looking out for each other. If there is no such system in your child's school, contact your child’s roommate beforehand. This helps build a bond that goes beyond school and lets friends tide over the dreaded homesickness together.
4. Talk About It
Once your kid has found a friend, life gets easier. When he is in a tight spot or when he is going through a low phase, encourage him to talk it out with his friend. It helps to understand that he is probably not the only one going through it.
5. Make Sure He is Busy
Most boarding schools have tough schedules of study, play and sleep. Encourage your child to take up activities he is interested in. This will bring him new like-minded friends, develop a sense of achievement and satisfaction and also keep the loneliness monster at bay.
6. Keep in Touch
Schools usually have a system of letter-writing to parents. Keep in touch with your child’s moods so you can read signs of depression or stress. If the school allows mobile phones and you feel your child is mature enough, you might consider getting him one.
7. Don’t Offload Your Emotion on Your Kid
Mothers, boarding school and separation can be as traumatic for you as for your child. Don’t harp on how much you miss him. Listen more than you talk and encourage him to be happy at school rather than dwelling on home.
With a little preparation and encouragement, boarding school can become a fun place for your child while also imparting valuable lessons in independence. Prepare well to ensure your child is well-equipped for school and very excited! Read more

Few Ergonomic tips to help children stay healthy in the current scenario of online learning
Online Schooling has become the new normal and we as parents are concerned about our children spending long hours in front of the screen. Many parents have been consulting for their children having neck pain, back pain etc.
Since the bones of children haven't fused yet, poor posture at an early age can lead to permanent changes in spinal alignment later in life leading to musculoskeletal issues such as forward head, kyphosis, scoliosis etc.
Poor posture in children can also be cause of headaches, body aches which further leads to poor attention, decreased participation and increased distractibility.
All these issues can be easily prevented by following a few Ergonomic tips-
▪︎Ensure that your child has a proper study area.He/She should sit on a chair with back support, with a desk/dining table, instead of couch or bed or floor which promotes poor posture.
▪︎Computer/tablet should be placed in front of the child instead of letting them hold the screen. The top of the screen should be just below the eye level.
▪︎Sitting posture-Child should sit straight with back supported. The height of the chair should be such that the child's elbows are at 90°
or slightly past 90°when resting on the desk. This allows for neutral position of the wrist when the child is typing and avoids undue strain.Feet of the child should be resting on the floor else a small stool should be placed under the feet to prevent feet dangling.

▪︎Encourage your child to make use of the break in between sessions.Ask them to stand up and stretch their arms up and wiggle their hands. You can Alternatively ask them to get notebooks for the next class ,prepare stationary or do 10 jumping jacks.
▪︎Eye Care
•Viewing distance- monitor should be placed at least 2 feet away from the child
•Encourage the child to blink intermittently
•after every 20 min look away from the screen at a point 6 ft away and focus at that point for 20 seconds.
•Reduce TV /unnecessary screen-time and encourage more physical play.
Exercises and activities- As children spend most of their time indoors, try to ensure that they get an hour of physical activity in the form of fun games ,yoga ,exercises etc.
a few examples -
•Throwing/catching a ball
•Jumping jacks
•Skipping
•Yoga-Suryanamaskar is quite beneficial for kids as it stretches the whole body and major muscle groups.
•Cat exercise-
Step 1- Come on fours(weight on his knees and hands), then arch your back up ,looking between your arms, towards your tummy.Hold to the count of 3.
Step 2-Now move your tummy down and lift your head up.Be careful that your child shouldn't arch too deep.
•Chin tucks-Tuck your chin in without bending your neck and hold to the count of 5. relax and repeat.
•Shrugging -Ask your chiĺd to bring his shoulders up towards ears ,hold for a few seconds, then down and relax.
Teaching Children the correct Ergonomics during virtual learning initially requires effort on the part of parents but with repitition and constant reminders, it can easily become a part of child's habit and behavior. An appropriate combination of Ergonomics and physical activity in long run can prevent many musculoskeletal issues that arise due to prolonged poor posture. One of my favorite products from babyhug: my baby's blanket...
Although I like all the variety from babyhug brand but when it comes to the favorite product, its my baby's blanket.
I ordered a blanket from firstcry for my baby from babyhug before my delivery because I was preparing my hospital bag. When the package arrived, I was happy with the quality of the blanket as it was super soft and comfortable.
I am using it for him from the day he was born. Now he is 11 months and the blanket is his favorite. I washed it a number of times but there is no difference in quality. But what makes it more special is that it is my baby's favorite. He is always happy when his blanket is around him. When he is on bed he needs his blanket. He used to play with it, hide in it and all.
As it is super soft, made with the proper care of baby's skin. That makes it more comfortable for him. The best part is, its price range and its quality. As i got it on very reasonable price. And the quality is same after 11 months.
As all mothers are aware of it that babies tend to put everything in mouth during there teething period. My baby always puts the blanket in his mouth and used to play with it. The best point is, I have never found any threads or furr of the blanket in his mouth. The quality is that good.
After this product, I am using almost all the products from babyhug. His blankets, quilts, swaddles, cloths, wipes, mosquitoe patches, carry cot, silicon finger brush, sipper and the list continues....
So in short I am in love with the brand banyhug. I can trust blindly on any product of babyhug from firstcry. Read more
