How to Build Confidence in Kids
Children are still honing their perceptive abilities in order to understand the world around them. It is up to you as a parent to understand what they are going through and guide them through their experiences, be it positive or negative. Helping children with low self-esteem is as important as making sure they eat and drink well or get their vaccinations on time. Low confidence levels can lead to depression, self-hatred, and even suicidal thoughts. This article will help you understand the signs of low self-esteem in children as well as different ways for you to build their confidence.
Why is Self-Esteem in Children so Important?
The development of self-esteem begins very early in children and is intricately linked to the kind of adults they become. Repeated failure can lead to self-esteem issues and a drop in confidence. On the contrary, success tends to instil in them a sense of accomplishment and assurance in their own abilities. However, children need to experience a sense of pride in their accomplishments without feeling like they deserve their victories without any hard work. On the other hand, low self-esteem often prevents kids from being able to handle daily challenges that other children breeze through.
Kids with high self-esteem will naturally find that their confidence bears desired results, which further increases the chances that they will take on more and difficult tasks to prove themselves. Consider it a positive feedback loop: The more secure they feel, the better they do. It is especially important that they are accepted by authority figures like parents and teachers, whose support and encouragement can drive them.
Signs of Low Self-Esteem in Children
1. Aggression
Your child reacts to emotional situations with aggressive behaviour or bullying. They do this in order to protect their own feelings of weakness or inadequacy. They usually show aggression towards children weaker than they are, blaming them to avoid dealing with their own lack of confidence.
2. Playing The Fool
Children who act out in the form of clowning or ludicrous behaviour often do so to hide their insecurities. Being silly takes their mind off their troubles, but it never quite works.
3. Giving Up
Kids with low self-esteem doubt their own abilities and get frustrated very easily if they fail at tasks, sometimes after just one attempt. This leads to them quitting point-blank to avoid the humiliation of failure.
4. Dominating
With a lack of confidence comes a feeling of powerlessness over their own lives. As a result, they try taking control of the situation usually becoming domineering in the process.
5. Being Careless
Impulsive behaviour is common in children, but overdoing it might be a coping technique, as they might want to complete their task as fast as they can so they don’t have to feel the pressure.
6. Denying
Denial is a common way for children with the low confidence to simply avoid the frustration and suffering that would come if they faced their personal problems head-on. Denial can come in many forms, such as their success at school or maintaining friendships.
Best Ways to Build Confidence in Kids
Here are some ways for improving self esteem in children:
1. Spend Time With Them
This is the most important role. As a parent, it is essential to simply be there for your child. This means spending time with them, even if its something as simple as taking them out for ice-cream, reading them stories, and so on. Children in primary school or younger require your attention even more. Don’t forget to focus on them during this time, as children are perceptive enough to figure out if you are distracted and just want to get the conversation over with.
2. Let Them Choose
Allowing your child the freedom of choice lets them feel in control of their lives. Consider giving them options for their meals, clothes for the day, and so on, but avoid too many choices especially if they are very young. Ensure they are aware of the consequences of their choices as well, so they can make their opinions accordingly.
3. Reassure Them Regularly
Children need to know that they don’t have to be perfect all the time. Try to show compassion and understanding in your reactions to their failures. The more disappointment you show, the harder it hits their confidence levels. This applies to small children as well, such as learning to walk, clothe themselves and so on.
4. Give Them Genuine Praise
Parents who regularly praise their children help them in developing their sense of self-worth. However, it is important to avoid over praising them or showering them with compliments too often as this could result in an inflated ego. Be specific in your praises, for example, instead of simply saying that they did something well, tell them what and how they did it well.
5. Establish Boundaries
While allowing them the freedom to do things at their pace, do set limits and requirements. For example, if it is their job to wash vessels or clean their room on a particular day, insist that they finish their job. Help them understand that not doing their part affects the people around them as well.
6. Do Not Insult Them
It is absolutely never OK to take your anger out on your children. Never abuse them, call them names, insult them in any manner, or downplay their feelings. Remember that you love your child, even if their actions affected you. Negative reinforcement might make them change their ways temporarily, but can devastate their self-esteem.
7. Let Them Figure Things Out
If you do everything for your child, they will never learn to work their problems out for themselves. Clothing your toddler might be more efficient, but it will not improve their motor skills or give them a sense of accomplishment. It might be scary for you, but letting them take risks is the best way for them to deal with new challenges. For instance, allow your child to pour themselves a glass of water even it means they are going to spill half of it. They will know how to face the problem next time.
8. Give Them Responsibilities
Ask them to help out with activities around the house, and make them responsible for those chores. This will make them independent and willing to do things by themselves. This sense of competence is integral to the building self esteem in children as it makes them feel that they contribute something worthwhile.
9. Treat Them Unconditionally
Accept your child for who they are. Hold, kiss, hug them, show them as much affection as possible. Avoid any form of comparison with siblings or friends who perform better at school or athletics. Children need to know that you will be there for them no matter what in order to feel secure about themselves and their abilities.
10. Learn Their Perspectives
Understand that not all children are the same, and no child views the world as you do. If your little one is crying or whining for no reason, it might just be because of your perspective. Kids are affected by different things than adults are, and are certainly more emotionally vulnerable.
11. Develop Your Own Self-Esteem
Before your child can build their own self-esteem, it is important that you are confident in yourself. Parents have to be the first role models as children learn everything from you. If you do your tasks without complaining about it, your child will learn to do the same.
Children with low self-esteem are difficult on themselves. Their insecurities and lack of confidence make them feel like they are not as good or loved as other children. They often focus on their failures more than their accomplishments and blame their own lack of skills or personalities for this. The points described in this article barely skim the surface of what you must do as a caring parent to boost your child's confidence. Encouragement and support are not just words you can tell your children. It is your actions that count. The job is tough, but a happy and confident child is worth every effort.

Is the society being judgemental about our women counter parts?

The female gender of our society is the most easily targeted section for both good and bad especially in our country. We do favors for her and we become generous, we provide reservations to her and we help her succeed in every field, we appraise her and mention the boundary she has managed to cross with your help! This clearly shows that they are still considered weaker than their male counterparts physically as well as mentally.
Both studied together at school and college and always competed together to stay ahead but why the difference at a later stage? If a married women is career oriented, she may be considered as bossy and will not be good at relationships or taking care of her family whereas the male counterparts always take pride in going outside to work. Most of the people think that she had to work to share her family expenses but no one accepts that she would be equally concerned about her career like you. Working mums have to give their best at their workplaces without excuses of family and at home she needs to see that she do not fail in upbringing her children so well that they are not left behind in the race. If she is a homemaker, she is already overloaded with societal expectations.
Most of the women have struggled and actually wanted to keep up in the race except the one who are forcefully taught to keep their instinct in recessive state. Though only few could manage to reach the Boardrooms of Fortune 500 companies or big public sector players. The society has already saved themself by giving her the challenge of getting the tag of 'Superwoman' and she has accepted it. She want to be the best performer, best mum, best wife, best daughter or best daughter in law but is it easy to be a superwoman? Its fine if we also say 'No' with same authority to some of the things we don't know or don't want to do. We can give our best in our area of interest only when some of the things are removed from our 'to-do list'. Before thinking of what others might judge for you; start thinking what is good for you. No job is strictly meant for a woman or a man. A woman may help her husband in some of his work she is good at and a man can help her to cook dinner tonight.
The motive here is not to prove that men and women are equal because the almighty God has of course made us biologically different but not different at our state of mind. We look forward to have a world where we have same respect in everything or anything we do of our own choice. Whatever changes or developments we may have witness till date that women are going hand in hand in every field, the actual revolution is still to happen when women will actually stand without standing on back of this generous society!

5 Things Happy Couples do Differently
Have you ever wondered why certain couples look so happy together? This is because they put in a little more effort to enjoy life and support each other in every big and small situation in life. Read on to know more about things happy couples do to strengthen their bond.
Falling in love and getting in a relationship may not be as difficult as nurturing that special relationship for a lifetime. Many couples we come across seem blissfully happy and we often tend to think that they are simply lucky or blessed. But the truth is that every couple has their own set of problems and flaws. They have just learnt to accept the flaws in each other and be there for one another no matter what. In addition to this, they willingly go that extra mile to do certain things that strengthen their bond. Here is what happy couples do to keep that spark alive:
Things Couples Should Do to Stay Happy
1. Spend time together:
No matter how busy you are with your professional and family commitments, don’t forget to take out time for your partner. Squeeze in some time to sit in each other’s company and share your daily experiences, discuss your problems, and seek advice to make the other person realise his importance in your life.
2. Treat him well:
No matter how many love notes you send to your partner and how many times you express your love for each other, if you do not treat the other person well, it's all in vain. Remember actions speak louder than words. So treat your partner with respect to let your actions back up your love claims.
3. Don't compare with other couples:
It's of no use to try and be like some other couple who look more happy and successful than you do. Rather accept and appreciate that you are unique, as individuals and as a couple. Appreciate and encourage your partner's virtues and try to ignore the flaws. Refrain from comparing as it is the biggest self-esteem buster.
4. Let go off the grudges:
All couples argue, make mistakes, and hurt each other at some point. It's important to talk things out and resolve the matters at the earliest. It takes effort and one has to step back a little, but not holding the grudges against each other is one of the things happy couples do differently in a marriage.
5. Be there for him:
Be there for your partner during the tough times. Do whatever you can to share his load and give him strength to keep going during the difficult times. It may be a job layoff, an addiction, or a sickness he may be going through. You, being there for him, assures him that he is not alone and he can overcome anything when you are by his side.
We'll give a secret tip from our side, find a few common likes and nurture those. The time spent while undertaking such activities will truly be worth the time spent. Now you know about quite a few things couples can do together to stay happy. It does not require much – just your willingness and effort. So what are you waiting for? Breastfeeding woes of a new mother : A Herculean task to a cherished victory.
Disoriented and sedated on the day of my c section I was so elated to hold the little angle in my hands..the nurse gently asked me to breastfeed her and I gladly cradled my baby into the position.. but to my dismay I had no breast milk supply. My gynaecologist suggested that it will happen so in a day or two n prescribed medicines for it which worked but I had a long way to go. My nipples were flat which was totally inacceptable for my lil girl to suck and all she liked was no milk and only sleep... I was having a good supply of milk but my baby was not getting it..It took a toll on her health and she lost 600 g weight..she was admitted for phototherapy for jaundice. Meanwhile I used nipple sheath to feed her which she was getting accustomed to but weight wasn't increasing.. My pediatrician got frenzied with me using nipple sheath and asked me to discard them which I unwillingly did and in that ordeal of feeding her directly for a day I landed with a breast lump.. I got operated for it and the immense pain of the dressing came along with pumping milk and discarding it along with feeding directly from the other side.It started taking a toll on my health. Constant pain and a guilt to feed my baby with formula milk for those twenty days was depressing. With immense support of my husband and mother I not only recovered from the lump but also successfully started breastfeeding my munchkin. Her health started improving and so was mine. It was an end to all the misery of pumping, painful feeding, sore nipples. I started enjoying the sessions of breastfeeding. But thats not the end. Suddenly my milk supply decreased remarkably ,I got panicked but with shear determination to exclusively breastfeed her I changed a bit of my diet, increased liquid intake and a few medicines and most importantly I developed a positive attitude that I will get sufficient supply got things back on the track. What seemed as an impossible task was now a cherised victory for me.My baby has turned eight months old and I am still breastfeeding her. A. It’s fine it should come out into the poop of your child within 24 to 48 hours a lot of mishaps happened with kids these days but these things since they are not edible they do not get digested which is why they come out into the motion
