Eating Cake during Pregnancy - Is It Safe?
Most women have unusual food cravings at some point during their pregnancy. These cravings can range from certain spicy foods to some inedible items to irresistible sweets too. If you are craving sweets, then at some point you will be tempted to eat cakes or pastries, won't you? Cakes are simply hard to say no to! But can you eat cakes or pastries during pregnancy? Read this article to find out!
Can a Pregnant Woman Eat Cakes?
You can enjoy one or two pieces of cake once in a while during pregnancy as eating in moderation won't harm you or your baby. But you must avoid binge eating cakes or any other food item during pregnancy as it might affect your health.
You must eat healthy foods during pregnancy as a well-balanced diet will ensure that your baby gets all the nutrients required for his growth. The bouts of morning sickness can also take a toll on your body, so you eat nutritious foods and drink a lot of water. Having one or two pieces of cake is fine but you must know that cakes do not offer any nutritional value and satisfy the hunger for a short period of time. So it is best avoided.
Why Should You Not Eat Cakes During Pregnancy?
While cakes, be it a chocolate cake or vanilla cake, taste delicious, they may not do any good for your health, especially during pregnancy. Eating cakes can pose a risk to your health. Here is why you should avoid eating cakes during pregnancy.
1. Cakes May Contain Bacteria
While pregnant, your immune system will be weak, so you must avoid eating anything that may lead to an infection. Even if the cake is a homemade one, there is a high chance that it might contain bacteria like salmonella, E.coli, Toxoplasma and many more. If any of these bacteria enter your body, it can lead to severe complications. The batter can sometimes form a breeding ground for bacteria. Hence, you must avoid eating cake during pregnancy.
2. Eating Cakes May Lead to Unhealthy Weight Gain
Yes, you need to gain weight during pregnancy but that weight gain should happen from healthy and nutritious foods. Eating cakes, pastries, or other junk food will offer you empty calories which will result in unhealthy and excessive weight gain during pregnancy, and make your pregnancy journey difficult, so they are best avoided. You can enjoy a piece of chocolate-walnut cake served at your baby shower, but resist the temptation to reach for the second piece. Also, avoid cakes that have saccharin in them as it can cross the placenta and affect the foetus. Stick to a healthy diet - eat foods that contribute to healthy weight gain and promote your baby's growth.
3. Cakes May Contain Alcohol
Some cakes may contain alcohol such as rum in them that may not be safe for the health of your baby. Even though it is believed that cooking neutralises any alcohol content in the cake, but it is not entirely true. Alcohol enhances the flavour of cakes, but it can cross the placenta and lead to complications in the baby. It could result in premature delivery and birth defects, so if you are planning to eat a piece of cake that has alcohol in it, think about your baby and do not give in to your temptation.
4. Cakes May Contain Unhealthy Supplements
Instant cake mix available in the market and store-bought cakes may contain unhealthy supplements in the form of added flavour or taste enhancers, which might harm your baby.
Cakes That You Can Try During Pregnancy
If you have a sweet tooth and you love eating cakes, then you can enjoy them once in a while. However, we suggest that you opt for healthier versions and consume them in limited amounts too. Mentioned below are some cakes that you can try during pregnancy.
1. Angel Food Cake
Angel food cakes have no fat content in them and can satisfy your sweet cravings. This cake is made with stiffly beaten egg whites instead of butter. It has a light, fluffy texture, so there is no harm in eating it in moderation.
2. Dark Chocolate Cake
Dark chocolates and unsweetened cocoa contain antioxidants, which can prove to be beneficial for your health during pregnancy. So you can eat a piece or two of this cake while pregnant. However, make sure that the cake you buy or make has no alcohol content in it.
3. Yoghurt Cake
Yoghurt is an essential part of the diet of a pregnant woman since it contains dietary calcium, protein and good bacteria which can help in better digestion. You can make a cake using yoghurt, but make sure that it is consumed quickly as yoghurt cake may get spoiled soon and become a breeding ground for bacteria.
Things to Remember While Eating Cakes During Pregnancy
Here are some things regarding the consumption of cakes you should take into consideration during pregnancy.
Many people think eating cakes with eggs in them can harm the baby, but that is not true. Eggs are not harmful to the baby, so you can consume a cake that has eggs in it. However, do check that there are no added preservatives in it apart from the eggs, as they could prove to be harmful to the baby.
If you do want to indulge in cakes, we suggest that you eat homemade cake, instead of eating store-bought cake.
If you do not want to make one at home and plan to buy the cake from a bakery, ask about the nutritional composition and general ingredients used in the cake.
Consuming cakes in small quantities will not harm you or your baby, but you should make sure that your quantity does not exceed. Better yet, consult your nutritionist or a doctor before eating it and stay safe!

A Promise to Give Her Children a Beautiful and Happy Family!!!
She was a princess at home, the only girl in the family, she lived in her cocoon guarded by her parents and siblings, always in her dream world, they ate together, they shared everything with each other ,they were together as a family through thick and thin ,nothing was there to trouble her, always happy, always contented, always smiling.
And then, it was time to get her married. They found her the best man. A true gentleman. Someone who knew her better than she herself does, as she had always wished for, he became her best friend, she was his Queen, they were happy together.
But, something was missing, the house which was now hers was merely a house and not a home, for people there never spoke to each other, they never laughed together, they never ate together as they did at her house. ( They said theirs was an idle family. God alone knows what happened ).They were a set of strangers living under one roof, always glued to the TV. She missed her house, she missed dinner time at home.
She tried to work things out but people were stubborn with their thoughts, she was backslashed and blamed for creating trouble in the family.
She didn't want her kids to continue the same pattern of life so, she made a promise, that her children would always have meals together, share their day, rag each other, pull their leg and have fun conversations during those meals. She believed - A family that eats together stays together!!!
She promised to show them a world beyond TV, a world of sharing and caring, a world of helping each other, a world of being there for each other. A world of respect and trust.
She promised to give them a beautiful happy family!!!

Toddlers Intentionally Breaking Rules
As they grow up, toddlers are bound to break some of the rules laid down by their parents. However, there is no need to lose sleep over it. Understanding the reason behind this can help in teaching better behaviour management to toddlers.
There is nothing wrong in putting down some ground rules for your toddler to follow. After all, your little one needs to grow up into a responsible and socially acceptable individual. However, sometimes you might be in for a surprise when your tot breaks a rule. Before you blow your lid, make sure you analyse the reason for this behaviour.
Why is Your Toddler Breaking Rules- Reading Between the Lines
1. Attention Gaining Gimmick
One of the main reasons why toddlers break rules is to draw the attention of their parents. Sometimes this is the only way they can gain their parents attention. So, if your toddler is breaking a lot of rules lately, make sure that you are spending enough time with him.
2. Mimicking
Do you and your partner follow the rules that you have set down for the toddler? In case your answer is in the negative, there is no way you can expect your tot to follow these. Toddlers often mimic what they see. So, practice what you preach and your little munchkin will follow suit.
3. Testing the Parent
Often destructive behaviour in children arises when they want to check how serious their parents are about the rules. It's not only important that you tell your child about the consequences of breaking a rule but also stay true to your word. This is the only way to prevent the child from breaking rules in future.
4. Expressing His Feelings
Since toddlers aren't well versed with expressing their emotions, sometimes they express these by breaking rules. Make sure your child isn't feeling sad, frustrated or depressed, as this could be an underlying cause.
Toddler Behaviour Management Strategies
1. Make it Loud and Clear
Just putting down the rules and expecting your child to follow these isn't enough. Tell your child what you expect of him and be clear about the consequences in case, he breaks a rule. Stick to your decision and punish your child the way you warned him in the first place. This is the apt way to instill the importance of discipline in toddlers. However, make sure that you don't be too harsh.
2. Reward Good Behaviour
Just like punishing the tot for breaking the rule is important, similarly a child needs to be rewarded for following the rules too. Tell your little one about the rewards he can expect if he follows the rules diligently. These may not be materialistic rewards necessarily. An extra ten minutes of story time or play time would suffice in encouraging good behaviour in toddlers. Don't forget to praise your child on seeing a positive behaviour.
3. Don't Give In
Toddlers most often throw a tantrum to mellow down their parents. However, giving into these tactics can actually instigate the child to repeat the same mistake. It's important that you be strong when confronting your tot. Read more

11 tips can help you to start your baby's First Food!!!
Congratulations!!! You along with your baby🤱 achieved the first milestone successfully!!
Now it's the weaning time for the baby!!! You need to start other supplementary food along with breastfeeding. But breastfeeding is just as important. Being a mother for the first time makes us curious about everything. And the people around you have too many answers for each of our doubts. This makes us more confused. All of you may have the same experience in the last six months. But now you know your baby quite well. You may have been set the routine for your baby by now. If not, do that at first because it can easily handle the two most important things, baby's sleep and appetite. It's the key factor for growing a healthy baby!!
Here are some of the tips I found to be helpful in starting a baby's solid food after the 6th month. I hope it will help mommies to clear many doubts🙂
1. The baby still gets hungry every two hours so mother's milk and supplementary food can be given alternately.
2. Considering the fact that each baby has its own digestion capacity, health issues and other physical factors, create a diet chart that is best suitable for your baby.
3.Start with 2 or 3 spoonfuls of soft foods at 6th month.
4. When you are trying any food for the first time for your baby, feed it in small quantities. Make sure the food is easily digested by the baby. If you observe any rash or red patches or any other notable changes in baby's skin or loose motion after introducing new food. consult a pediatrician. If not then you can include those foods in the diet.
5. Give any food in liquid form and soft as the baby has not got teeth yet. Fruits like apples, pears should be boiled and pureed. Vegetables like spinach, carrot can be cooked and made into soup. You can give boiled and smashed potato.
6. Start giving water to your baby from the 6th month. At the start give 2 - 3 tablespoons slowly after every meal. Then increase the quantity gradually as per baby's need. Water must be boiled and cooled down. If it's winter ,give warm water.
7. Different types of porridge are good food for babies after the 6th month. Also it's an easy and quick recipe. You can use Jaggery instead of sugar for sweet taste.
8.In porridge , add almond and cardamom powders that taste better and dry fruits help in weight gain of the baby .
9. You can add a teaspoon of home made pure ghee in every meal.
10. Now a days the baby is usually feeded with a silver bowl and a spoon. When the food is ready, take it out of the bowl and keep it till it becomes warm. This will give the benefits of silver to the baby.
11. Last but not least is maintaining proper hygiene while feeding the baby. Wash your hands properly before making food and feeding the baby. Sterilize baby's utensils and keep them separate from other utensils. Prefer steel utensils for babies.

Are we creating negative impact on our Children, Unintentionally ?
Parenting is changed a lot from the time we were kids to the time
we have kids.Healthy life style, good
behaviour, manners, Presentation all these are the keys now a days to judge parents.
Because of the busy schedule and life, we are indirectly creating a negative
impact on our children Saying No to all questions asked, No Oreo, No Chocolates
it will ruin your teeth. No to TV it will impact your vision, No to Games, is
making them think that answer for every question asked is NO”. Talking about myself I never thought my Daughter who is just 2
year 9 months will start saying NO to every single thing. Asking her anything
like Let’s go out or Have your meal anything her reply
is NO, NO, NO. Anything which can make them happy or which is good
for them the answer will be NO.I am the one who is responsible what she is learning as I am only
the person who was nagging her. I thought it’s not nagging but its caring maybe
she took it in different way. What I concluded with this
situation is I could have used more affirmative sentence instead of saying
direct no to her. Agreeing to her demands is also necessary but in a way that
it make her feel positive. Telling her what I want her do to rather what I don’t
want her to do is the best solution. Asking her what she is willing to do. Do
you want to go out now or later? Definitely she will try to say something which
is reasonable instead of NO. Alternatives of No is now part of my life as well.Unintentionally, I was creating
some negativity around her but now It’s time to learn and make changes in my
Parenting Afterall I am also in a learning phase like my daughter. Read more

A. Typically, your bump becomes noticeable during your second trimester. Between 16-20 weeks, your body will start showing your baby's growth. For some women, their bump may not be noticeable until the end of the second trimester and even into the third trimester. The second trimester starts in the fourth month.
