Baby Size — Week by Week Comparison with Fruits and Veggies
From the moment of conception to delivery, your baby grows by leaps and bounds inside you. The gestational age of a baby is initially determined using ultrasound scans using markers like sac length and length from crown to rump. This is because every baby grows at the same pace only up to a certain stage of pregnancy. Here, we attempt to explain how big your baby is getting with each passing week using fruits and veggies as examples.
How Big Is Your Baby?
Studying your baby size during pregnancy is fascinating. At the time of conception, your baby is discernable. The size of the foetus at every stage during pregnancy is used as a benchmark to determine if the pregnancy is progressing normally and your baby is growing as she ought to be. When you’ve just become pregnant, your baby is barely the size of a seed. From this size, your baby will gain up to 3.5 kilos of weight by the time she is born.
Baby Size: Weeks 1 to 3
At this stage, the fertilisation of the egg happens in the mother’s body and the zygote attaches itself to the uterus. Your baby has just been formed at this stage and begins growing from two cells.
Week 4 Baby Size
In medical terms, the baby is called a blastocyst. If one had the chance to look at the baby, it would look like a group of cells bunched up together like a ball. It would be comparable to the size of a poppy seed.
Baby Weight:
The baby’s weight is barely discernible at this stage, weighing in at less than a gram.
Baby Length:
Your baby is very tiny at this stage and can be identified as a sac in the ultrasound scan. The baby would be less than 3mm in length.
How You Will Feel:
This is the start of the first signs that you are pregnant - bleeding and mild cramping, for example. However, most women dismiss these symptoms as they can easily be confused with the symptoms of the start of the menstrual cycle.
Week 5 Baby Size
Your baby is roughly the size of an apple seed. During this phase, organs such as the liver and kidney begin to form.
Baby Weight:
The baby’s weight at this stage is negligible; it is less than a gram.

When Can You Let Visitors Hold Your Newborn Baby?
Newborns are so delicate, and parents often wonder when the right time is to allow visitors to hold their babies. The ideal time is when your child is about two months old, but everyone knows that it is not so easy to keep visitors away for so long, and most parents do not want to be isolated for as long anyway. In cases like this, it is best to have some rules in place for what is allowed when visitors are around your baby.
Things to Keep in Mind before Letting Visitors Hold the Baby
Here are a few things that every parent should keep in mind before allowing visitors to hold the baby:
If someone wants to hold your baby, make sure that he or she wash their hands well before doing so. Germs and bacteria that may seem harmless to us are quite dangerous for your baby as their immunity is not yet fully functional.
Smokers should not hold the baby for at least half an hour after smoking. Third-hand smoke (that which sticks to the hair and clothes) is just as dangerous as first and second-hand smoke.
Sick people should not hold your baby. This should go without saying, but it can be fatal to your child to be around anyone who is sick. There should be no coughing or sneezing allowed near your child, let alone by the one doing the holding.
Do not let others kiss your newborn as people can carry bacteria or virus in their throats even without showing symptoms.
As you do not yet know if your baby has allergies or sensitivities, ask that others do not wear strong cologne or perfumes if they want to hold the baby.
If your baby starts to cry, ask to have him or her back as she needs you. She may need to be changed or fed, or simply needs your comfort after being handled by people she doesn’t know.
If possible, do not allow others to handle your baby for too long as your little one may become over stimulated, and they will need their rest.
How to Tell Visitors Politely to Keep their Hands Off Your Baby
A few ideas to help you do so without being offensive towards anybody.
1. Post on Social Media
Today, social media is everything. Make a polite post on either Facebook or Instagram letting people know the few guidelines you would like them to follow when visiting you.
2. Wear Your Baby
Yes, you read right; wear your baby. There are many new sling carriers for newborns that keep them close to you and make it nearly impossible, and also downright rude, for others to try sticking their hands into to touch your baby. This is may just be the best way to keep all hands off the baby.
3. Stick A-List
Whether it is on the room to the hospital door, or even your home, make sure to post a list of do’s and don’t for visitors to follow when visiting baby.
Visiting boundaries is a rather sensitive topic as no new parent wants to offend the people who want to share in their joy at the birth of their precious child. However, newborns do not yet have a very developed immune system, and so it is wise for parents to be careful of how many people touch the little one.

Are You Ready for a New Perspective in Relationship Goals?
When we talk of parenthood, the role of a mother has always been given an edge over the role of a father. None of us can really deny the fact that mothers are the ones to devote more amounts of time and energy in raising a baby than the fathers too. Over the years there has been much written about how contradistinction a mother’s life changes after coming of the baby as compared to how it was before the baby. But, not many of us talk about how a father’s life changes after a baby come into the picture. So here’s a Husband and New Dad’s perspective on relationships.
How a Husband and New Dad Looks into This New Role
When we first planned on starting a family, we had a pretty clear picture that the baby was going to change the present dynamics of our marriage. But just when the romantic flirty messages changed into the grocery list, the intellectual chat changed into pee & poop talk and the birthday & anniversary reminders changed into vaccination reminders, I am still clueless. Nobody warned us about the plummeting our relationship had taken and the chaos the rest of out lives had follen into.
During the initial months everything seemed so exciting and gala, but soon after I found myself lamenting how our love for the baby had usurped our very own love story. Despite the fact that our happiness knew no bounds – she was happy and I was happy, but together our happy “we” times went missing from the picture.
And as determined as I was not to save our “us” for some day in the future, or pause our romance for tomorrow or even wait for the weekly off to hold a kiss for that matter, I also didn’t want to rush her into it either. I understood she needed time to recover & heal. But I also couldn’t shy away from the fact that her drive kept on taking a reverse gear whenever I tried to reconnect. I had been trying very badly to be the people who once met, married, fell in love and had a miraculous baby. But, our love story seemed to be lost somewhere underneath those soiled diapers and laundry piles.
How Sex and Intimacy Went Down the Drain
Who wouldn’t agree when I say that intimacy is like the glue in a marriage? So exactly how was I supposed to react if she chose sleep over sex? And even when, after a long, challenging day she tried to pry her tired and sleepy eyes open to tend to “us” because that might be our only chance during the entire day, I felt it was selfish of me to make her go through this. I did understand that “us” time would be the last thing on her mind with all the tiredness & exhaustion and over-touching from those tiny hands and feet climbing and clinging to her all day. And as much as I would hate to admit – it did feel like I was not wanted, I was not cared for, when all I had wanted was a sense of belongingness, even if the thought crossed my mind just for the millionth of a second.
How Reality Struck Hard
Did they tell you before having the baby that life will be more beautiful and lovely with the baby?
Reality check!
They sure forgot to tell you how different that love and life you probably imagined before having the baby could be when you are sleep-deprived parents to a highly active toddler. I knew beforehand, life couldn’t be the same and I was definitely geared up for this, but I so wanted more of her, I so wanted more of “us”. Reality struck me hard when one day, on hearing my wife calling, “Hey handsome” I jumped in all excited only to find that it was for the baby and not me (sigh)! He sure is my baby too and he’s handsome. But ouch! That hurt, and so much.
How I Started Looking at Our Relationship in a New Light
But amidst all that chaos we still tried to laugh while cooking or cleaning, appreciate each other, exchanged gifts, even when they didn’t seem to be enough. And just when I was beginning to think our relationship had lost its lustre, our marriage was far from being over, not even close. In all the drama going on in my life, I somehow missed seeing the bigger picture. This time around, she was the one to reach out. I’m glad I had the patience to wait and I didn’t rush her into it.
It was then I was able to witness how with each one of these challenging days passing by, we had been inching closer to each other gaining in trust, establishing mutual respect and building on faith. I had missed seeing how we kept fuelling on hope, en kindling belongingness and growing even deeper a love, all along the way, silently.
It just took me a little while to see how our relationship had metamorphosed and transformed into a more beautiful form, just as a butterfly does from a caterpillar, giving more meaning and depth to the relationship that we already had. Only my eyes were long clouded to realise how a whole new dimension of my psyche was born, as we lovers had morphed into something more. We were morphed into parents.
Our “us” today is definitely different than what it used to be, and not always a “good different,” but I love this life we’ve created and how we’ve grown as a family. And I have never been this sure how this phase of my life has shaped my personality and given me a deeper perspective on love and sacrifice.
Our relationship is definitely the most cherished aspects of my life, but the look of unconditional love that I see in those tiny eyes of my one-year-old who calls me “Papa“, and how my heart fills up with gratitude, love, and pride is beyond any word can describe and I wouldn’t change a thing about it.

தவமாய் தவமிருந்து Vishwanathan- You are boon to us from God
Dear Baby
Your arrival is my first lock down. Pregnancy news got confirmed in abroad with 30 day lock down and I came for first time in wheel chair in airport. After 24 hours of flight journey, take off and landing finally we safely landed in India from U. S. Next day of arrival I saw you for the first time in scan.
Five months went with vomiting, hospital admission due to jet lag. After five months I stepped into my home town and it's the baby shower function went amazing with blessings of relations and songs sung by my music teachers.
After three months of enjoyment it's a turning point with scan data discrepancies and doctor changing. Till eight months the doctor whom I met made me feel bad at every time appointment and used to tell c section is going to happen.
But by God's grace and with my continued prayers and pooja you arrived to me at end of nine months with normal delivery and episitomy. I was not given enema to your surprise and had both breakfast and dinner on the day you are born. Your arrival was in evening time.
Ten days before your delivery I went to a baby moon to a resort for a day with your dad in two wheeler. It's the most happiest moment in the pregnancy journey.
Your dad and grandma was with me during the delivery supporting and encouraging me throughout the day. Your birthday is on the same month as mine and eleven days after mine. Your arrival gave me confidence in life. Still the delivery is a goosebumps moment for me and I wonder how I managed. Credit goes to the doctor who gave me the confidence within a month.
You are God's blessings after seven years of marriage life. Read more

A. Well you should check with your gynaecologist for that she has to go through all the reports and the issues that you are facing you and your husband and accordingly she can tell you what is the situation how your child is going because lot of things depend upon how the child is growing

A. Hello there ma’am please do not worry about it too much and it is quite difficult to say anything about it without personally examination and proper reports evaluation. So better to consult with your treating gynaecologist in person as she knew the exact health condition of your pregnancy and can guide you better.
Take care
