Eating Liver During Pregnancy - is it Safe?
Pregnancy opens you up to eating a variety of food preparations that can give you all the nutrition you need. Meat preparations can come in different forms with different components of it, which might raise a question on their safety for a pregnant woman. Eating chicken liver during pregnancy or any other liver might not be best, even though you might have gorged on it prior in your life without any issues. Being in the know about what is the best practice while eating liver and sticking to it, while being aware of the risks, can help you make an informed choice.
Can Pregnant Women Eat Liver?
On a general note, consumption of liver is generally not forbidden for pregnant women. The liver is known to contain a variety of substances that can be quite beneficial for the mother as well as the growing child. However, there are a few risks that might present themselves and it is necessary to mitigate them in the best way possible.
Different Forms of Liver
In meat preparations, the liver can be consumed by various animals and is generally presented in more than one style, in order to suit different palates. As much as the source might govern its edibility, the style of generally doesn’t.
Preparation of sausages from livers is a rather popular way of eating liver based food items in numerous parts of the world.
Another quick side-dish or a snack of sorts to go along with other preparations is the chopped liver, making it quite a delicious preparation.
Liver pate is generally a small loaf-like portion of meat that contains liver along with many other meat items and foods mixed together in it.
Benefits of Consuming Liver in Pregnancy
The liver contains some vital elements that are considered essential for a mother and her baby in pregnancy, which makes consumption of liver quite a beneficial choice.
Folic acid is known to be present in the liver that plays a key role in the protection of the child within the womb as well as boosts his neurological development.
Proteins are the core source of energy that a woman requires in good amounts throughout pregnancy, and she can get enough of them from the liver.
Vitamin A not only provides an all-around nutrition but also directly impacts the development of eyesight and immunity in the nascent child.
Presence of iron in the liver is one of the main reasons why pregnant women are recommended liver consumption since it reduces risks of anaemia and keeps the blood healthy.
What is the Amount of Liver That is Safe to Consume while Pregnant?
There is no benchmark at how much proportion of liver is considered safe in which form for a pregnant woman. The proportions of vitamins in it are quite substantial so it is quite easy to overdo them by regular consumption of liver. Hence, it is generally in your best interest to keep its consumption restricted to once a week or twice a month.
Risks of Eating Liver When Pregnant
Meat is generally beneficial for a mother. But the constituents in the liver are in quite a good proportion, making certain risks of overconsumption rather apparent in this case.
The nutrient proportions are different in the chicken liver as compared to the beef liver or mutton liver. That needs to be taken into account when planning the diet.
Vitamin A is present in large proportions in the liver. As beneficial as it might be, consuming a lot of it can be harmful to the baby.
The vitamin A is present in the liver in the form of retinol. This is a precursor to the actual vitamin, which is why it is risky to consume it in high quantities. Overconsumption has been linked with developmental defects in the child and creation of cancer in the mother.
Along with retinol, a higher proportion of cholesterol makes liver a bad choice for a pregnant woman who has problems related to hypertension.
Liver Products to Avoid During Pregnancy
You might be abstaining from consuming any liver directly but there are certain products that ought to be avoided as well, which contain liver constituents in their preparation, or derivatives of the same. These usually are:
Certain skin care products which make use of retinol in their manufacturing.
Nutrition supplements that contain retinol as a way to deliver Vitamin A.
Cod liver oil or shark oil along with certain spreads or dips that can contain liver traces within them.
Alternative Sources of Vitamin A
Vitamin A is absolutely essential for the baby without a doubt. You don’t need to depend purely on the liver for it since it can be easily obtained from numerous other sources. Vegetables are a much safer choice in this regard, since vitamin A is present in the form of beta-carotene, instead of retinol. Some of these are:
Turnip greens
Spinach
Pumpkin
Sweet potatoes
Carrots
Eating mutton liver during pregnancy when you have cravings for it isn’t harmful to you. Preparing it the right way and restricting its consumption to the occasional luxury can help you enjoy the taste of it while keeping you safe from its possible harmful consequences.

Heating Pad During Pregnancy - To Use or Not?
Pregnancy results in sore muscles and spasms, which is worse in the first trimester, and affects the quality of your life. A growing belly leads to lower back pain and hip pain, thus bringing a need for a natural pain relief remedy for pregnant women. Medication is best avoided and home remedies are often the recommended option. One easy home remedy is a heating pad. It is well known that too much heat affects the baby in the belly and heating pads counteract this with moderated temperatures and are safe to be used by pregnant women. Heating pads relieve the pain through the dilation of blood vessels, thus supplying a rich store of oxygen and nutrients to other parts of the body.
Heating pad relieves sore spots and muscle stiffness during pregnancy and do not raise your core body temperature, thus heating up only one area of the body and leaving your baby unaffected.
Is Using Heating Pad Safe While Pregnant?
Moderate heat doesn't harm the baby and does not affect your overall body temperature, thus making heating pads safe to use during pregnancy. However, sauna and hot baths must be avoided during pregnancy since they raise the core body temperature which leads to birth defects and miscarriages.
When to Use a Heat Pack
A heating pad for lower back pain during pregnancy is commonly used for getting instant relief from muscle cramps. You may use a heating pad for pregnancy cramps and incorporate the use of hot and cold therapy by switching heat packs with ice packs back and forth to relieve inflammation, muscle aches, and pain in areas with affected blood vessels. Ice packs prevent blood clots while the heat packs promote adequate blood circulation to the affected areas. Switching provides the right balance of temperature for quick relief
Should You Use a Heating Pad on a Pregnant Belly?
No! While heating pads are ideal for use as substitutes for unwanted chemicals and over-the-counter medications they should not be placed directly on the belly. Avoid placing a heating pad directly on a pregnant belly as it can expose your baby to heat directly and may contribute to birth defects.
Pregnancy leads to muscle cramps and spasms and heat packs provide a natural relief from the pain and discomfort, temporarily. Heating pads may be used on pregnant belly provided the temperature is set to below 100 degrees Fahrenheit to avoid affecting the baby. Ideally, placing a towel between the skin and the heat pad will prevent burning the skin due to the heat and lessen the impact, thus making it safe for use.
When to Avoid Heating Pads
Heating pads must be avoided and not be used for any longer than 10 to 15 minutes a session and no more beyond a maximum of 20 minutes. If your core body temperature is already high, please avoid using them. When in doubt, speak to your healthcare provider about it.
Other Safe Substitutes for Heat Packs
Although heating pads beat the pain only an indirect use of heating pads is recommended. There are other safe substitutes for using heat packs for expecting mothers. These are the following alternatives:
Taking a lukewarm bath (not hot) followed by a massage near the affected areas
Taking prescription Acetaminophen with doctor's approval helps relieve the pain
Using a heat sock that has been warmed gently in a microwave that cools with time to prevent skin burns
Pain management techniques related to breathing and others as recommended by doctors and nurses
Ask your doctor to prescribe certain natural medications or supplements for pregnancy pain relief
Eat healthy, walk daily, and practice good posture to accommodate the baby's weight and reduce pain during pregnancies.
Safety Tips to Use Heat Pads
While using heat pads there are some precautions that one needs to take. Some of the safety tips are as follows:
Do not use heat pads for longer than 20 minutes a session. 10 minutes is the recommended duration for using heat pads with a temperature of below 102 degrees Fahrenheit.
Avoid placing heat pads directly on top of your belly and only place them in other affected areas like the neck and different muscle regions.
Consider using the lowest heat setting and avoid the highest setting to prevent raising the body temperature too much.
Wrap them in a wet blanket or towel for the indirect use of heating pads on your belly, and then place it on top of affected areas to avoid direct contact of the heat with your skin. This makes it safer on your affected areas as well as for your baby.
If you do place the heat pads on your belly, make sure the temperature is set to below 100 degrees Fahrenheit as a precautionary measure and use no more beyond 10 to 15 minute intervals.
Avoid using heat pads during pregnancy if you experience persistent abdominal or back pain and consult your doctor immediately.
Do not use heat packs for chronic pain and alternate with ice packs for detoxifying blood vessels and promoting healing.
Avoid falling asleep and stay awake when applying heating pads on your belly since they may lead to overheating if not applied with care.
Heat packs are an integral part of pregnancy, and truly relieve pain and promote instant relief when used effectively at the right intervals. For muscle aches and back pains, you may explore the use of body massage in conjunction with heat packs to properly reap the benefits. A little heat won't harm your baby but too much is fatal, so do make sure you keep the heat at the right level. If you're wondering about if can you use heat patches when pregnant, the temperature will answer your question and the sweet spot is below 100 degrees Fahrenheit for mothers in their first trimester. Heat packs make your pregnancy comfortable and turn your trimesters into a breeze when used with care and precision. Consult your doctor or concerned medical department immediately if you experience round ligament pain, bloating, constipation, or pain in the abdominal region when using heating pads on your lower back or belly.

Easy Tips and Tricks to Clean Combs and Hair Brushes
We use combs and hair brushes on a daily basis but rarely do we clean them. Hair brushes and combs get dirty over time and need cleaning once in a while. Just as you would clean your makeup brushes, you should clean your hair brushes and combs too. And believe us, cleaning hair brushes is not much of a task. All you will need is a toothbrush and a mild cleanser of your choice.
Why Is It Necessary to Disinfect and Clean Your Comb?
Germs, oil, dust and other free radicals tend to build up and can thrive on your brushes and combs. Many of us use hair products, then brush our hair, hence these products get transferred to the brush or comb. When we don't clean the brushes or combs, the products stay in place and build up over time. And as you use those uncleaned combs and brushes on your hair, you subject your hair to a host of hair and scalp problems like dandruff, scalp infections, hair fall, which is why cleaning the hair brushes becomes important!
Stepwise Procedure to Clean a Comb
If you are thinking of cleaning your combs and hair brushes, follow these steps. They work well for all types so if you want to clean a round hair brush or clean a wide tooth comb, read on.
What You Will Need
A tub
Shampoo
Toothbrush
Towel
Toothpicks
Tea tree essential oil
Warm water
Steps
Here is a step-by-step guide to clean your combs and brushes.
1. Remove the Hair
With your hands remove the hair and dirt stuck between the bristles of the hair brushes. If there is oil on the brushes or combs, use a tissue to wipe it off.
2. Put the Brushes in the Tub
Take a tub that is big enough to fit all the brushes and combs you need to clean, and put them all inside.
3. Add Water
Fill the tub with lukewarm water until all the brushes and combs are submerged in it.
4. Cleanser
Pour some shampoo or a mild cleanser in the water and stir it well.
5. Let Them Soak
Allow your brushes and combs to sit in the soapy water for about half an hour. This will help all the grime stuck at the bottom of the bristles of the brush or between the teeth of the comb to turn soft and lose.
6. Scrub
Scrub your combs and brushes one by one. For the brushes, you will need to be as gentle as you can so that you do not damage or break the bristles.
7. Clean with a Toothpick
If there is still some dirt stuck right at the bottom, use a toothpick and gently scrub it off.
8. Rinse
Rinse all your brushes and combs well to remove all the soap.
9. Sanitise
Add a few drops of tea tree oil to the tub (after cleaning it) and add some clean water. Soak your brushes and combs for about five minutes. This step ensures that your brushes and combs are sanitised as well.
10. Let them Dry
Place your brushes face down on the towel so that all the water seeps out. Place the combs next to them and let them dry.
Additional Tips for Cleaning Combs/Hairbrushes
Here are some additional tips that you can use to clean hairbrushes:
You can disinfect and clean a plastic hairbrush or comb by dipping it in rubbing alcohol or vinegar.
If you are trying to clean a paddle hairbrush, do not use the soak method. Instead, just clean them by brushing them down with a toothbrush and do a quick rinse once a month.
Clarifying shampoo is the best cleanser to use while cleaning your hair tools since it works best at removing grime and oil that is stuck at the bottom.
As soon as you are done combing your hair, remove the hair that gets caught in the bristles or teeth.
To clean electric hair brushes, remove any stray hair stuck between the bristles, then use a damp cloth to wipe down between them.
To clean straightening or roller hair brush use a cloth and wipe down between the bristles as gently as you can. Make sure the tool is completely cooled down before you start.

then
“Hello Welcome”

“Welcome back!!”
Hope you went through the first 20 activities(out of 42 activities) for engaging your toddlers, shared in my previous post, and enjoyed the same.
If not already gone through, then click on the link just given below and enjoy with your toddlers by engaging them in any of the suggested activities .
How to engage toddlers at home (during lockdown)- 42 indoor activities – Part 1
If you already went through the 20 activities mentioned in the above link then here I am to take you through 22 more activities making the list of my ’42 at-home’ activities complete. Wohoooo!!! So let’s get started.
P.S.: Numbering is from 21 here as 20 activities have already been shared in my earlier post(link above).
21. Coin painting
If you are thinking that I made my son paint the coins then you are ‘partially correct’ . What we did is, painted the coin(s) and made impression(s) out of it on blank sheet(s). I mentioned that you guessed it ‘partially correct’ as we indirectly painted the coins too.
Suggestion
The bottle caps, softdrink cans base, water glass base, etc, whatever you think can be used for this impression painting can be used in this activity. Also kids can make different structures like a flowers on tree , bunch of grapes, caterpillar , this list goes on as per the creativity you can put in.
22. ‘Collect and count’ or ‘Count and collect’
This activity is something that is self explanatory. Just telling these naughty ones to collect/count things and then count/collect them makes it a physical activity as well a learning one. For example, I ask my son, Rishaan, to collect all his cars(big or small), put them in a queue and then count those. This activity involves his energy in collecting his toys and counting those makes him learn the number system as well.
Suggestion
This activity can be played with various items to give the child a variety of options like asking them to assemble different toys they have, kitchen utensils can also be used here, balls, balloons, coins, bottle caps,…list is endless as per the availability of stuff at home and your creative thinking. Also this activity can be used to make them learn colours, opposites, numbers, alphabets, etc.
23. Imaginary Cooking
This is something kids love to do. Basically, when I cook in the kitchen my kid pretends cooking in the room with some of the kitchen utensils or his own pretend cooking toys.
He cooks different imaginary dishes and serves dishes either to his mommy(me) or to his toys.
Suggestion
You can get your kid a kitchen set to make this pretend game more happening for them.
24. Cleanup
What could be better than making them clean up the mess of the house they made while playing? Believe me this activity is something they will not even enjoy but even they would learn to discipline/ organize themselves. For our little one we have made it a habit for him to clean up once he is done playing with his toys, that is, we ask for his help to put his toys (from all around the room) in his toy box.
Suggestion
You can make him involved in various other clean up activities at home like cleaning of bed sheets, etc.
25. Helping in hanging clothes:
This is something I would recommend not just as an engaging activity for kids but also to make them a part of the household chores which we do. My little one helps me in taking out the clothes from the washing machine into a bucket and thereafter helping in putting them out in sun for drying. This gives us together our me time along with giving me an ease to complete my task with him help.
Suggestion
Putting the clothes to be washed, into the w/m can be another engagement for them.
26. Washing n cleaning toys
Let’s pamper their toys too today along with pampering them.
Water is generally a love for every kid. So it is with my son. He likes to instruct others to take bath (though I have to cook so many stories to get him ready for bath) so I generally give him a small tub of water with bit of his body wash and all his toys are made ready to take this bubble bath.
He loves this activity of washing followed by drying these and this keeps him occupied for an hour atleast (with least investment of my time).
Suggestion
Trying out this activity with making them dip some utensils or even some little clothes of their will give them a variety for repeating this task after every two three days.
27. Hurdle jump
Jumping is always a fun activity for kids so why not to give them a twist to just a plain jumping fun. I put the pillows/cushions etc on the floor and make it a hurdle jump for him. This just not improves his jumping skills but also helps in sending instructions to his mind for creating an execution plan. As an option I even lie on bed and myself be a hurdle for him (just to give him a variety hurdle ) and he just lives jumping over me.
Suggestion
If you are yourself being a hurdle like me just take the precautions accordingly as the kid can hit you anywhere so be ready with the aid浪. The fin part in thi for him will just be that he is jumping over you.
28. Round and spin
My son is really a fussy eater so for every food eating task, I give him a brownie point which is, giving him rounds, after which he spins. He loves to do this rounds and spinning activity.
Suggestion
No suggestion from my end here. If you have a one please write below in comment sectionwoukd love to hear and implement that
29. Musical chair
Who would have not heard and enjoyed played this game? We all would have, right??
Music and chair is all what the kids love individually so why not to combine these and make a fun activity for them. Play the music and ask the young one to sit as the music stops, as simple as that.
Suggestion
Rishaan(my son) loved this game initially but then he got bored so as an alternative I make his toys play this game with him and now he loves it too.
30. Moulding Clay/wheat dough into different shapes
Moulding is such a fun and learning activity. We have a clay box wherein different dinosaurs shapes have been given. My son likes dinos so he loves putting the clay into the moulds and giving his favourite dino a proper good shape.
I even give him the wheat dough to make variety of shapes. He recently made a Caterpillar out of it.
31. Hand impression
Just give them colors(liquid/safe) and ask them to dip their hands into it and make hand prints, and nothing would be more fascinating for them as playing this way with colors.
Suggestion
Use both hands to make figures like butterfly and the creativity to be blended is per the level your mind can run.
32. Making animals out of cotton roll
Kids generally like touching soft items and that is why most are attracted by soft toys. For my Rishaan cotton is what fancies him and he makes different shapes out of it giving it names like cow, bird, tiger, lion all these items are what he is able to make ( as per him again, though the real shape is something you need to keep guessing until he breaks the secret character name).
We even play with activity such as drawing any figure on sheet and then sticking plain/coloured cotton to it with glue stick to make it different and interesting.
33. Pouring water in glasses
Believe me this is such an engaging activity plus this also increases their concentration and eye hand co-ordination. Along with this it leads to hours of them in spending time to accomplish their tasks. My boy loves this task when I give him 4-5 glasses to be filled with his water bottle.
This is really a good engaging and engrossing activity.
34. Inflatable dinosaur Punching/kicking bop bag
Though after few days he was bored out of his punching dino bag plus still initially this kept his busy and he loved being a boxer while playing with him. You know the best part what I like about this is, when I say ‘and the winner is Rishaan’, the sparkle in his happy eyes is really worth it.
35. Creating stories
Creating stories us one of the best way to make kids imaginative and what works the best is when you make them create their own and allow their imagination to have more wings. My son likes creating and telling stories. He will make different characters he heard or saw and then his imagination would know no bound.
36. Making/playing drums out of kitchen
utensils bowls n spoons
Musical instruments are the ones which all kids love and when it’s something which is available at home then it pocket friendly and innovative too. My kid bangs glasses, plates, bowls, etc, whatever he thinks can make sound plus he even can differentiate on the various sounds around us by this activity.
37. Hide n seek
Not something very different as we all must be doing this with our kids but just putting it up in my list as at times we forget things which we usually do so what are you waiting for, come on kids, let’s play, ready or not here I come.
38. Memory game
This is something which is not only creative, enjoyable but also will enhance the memory of the lil ones. Just take few toys of your kid which they frequently play with, place them on a table/floor, ask the lil one to take a glance at all. Then ask him to close his eyes, put a pillow cover or cloth onto it and take a toy out. Now remove the cloth and ask the kid to see and recall what’s missing. He would love to play this memory teaser.
Suggestion
This can be played with any item available at home. To make it more interactive you can even ask the kid to play your part of hiding and you guessing and recalling the missing item.
39. Magic show
As the name suggests, its magic . See some simple tricks from various you tube channels and play those with your lil ones. You can even just in a jiffy of seconds hide any item even I front of them and say “aabra ka daabra here it cone” and the sparkle in their eyes will seriously take it as a magic.
40. Treasure hunt hiding letters in alphabet mat
We have an alphabet mat at home, which can be assembled dessembled. So we play treasure hunt with it by hiding the letters at some places(generally I prefer places where Rishaan frequently visits) and then I start giving him clues, for instance, if I hide it in his toy box so I will say that mumma has hidden it in a box where all your toys are kept, and so on to help him guessing.
This helps his thinking ability and widen his area of search and thoughts.
Suggestion:
This could be played with number of items at home but prefer things of your kids choice so that he takes interest in the same.
41. Ringa Roses
Most of us would have played this game in our childhood but generally in this age of digitization and variety we tend to forget this fun and entertaining game. I too didn’t remember it and one of my friend during our evening walk time made me remind of the same(when she urged our kids to play it). Rishaan liked it and since then whenever we feel like playing something different as the substitute of jumping and singing we go for ‘Ringa Ringa Roses’ and the benefit is now Rishaan learnt one more new song .
42. Holi water gun or water gun spray
Kids generally love playing in/with water and this is the reason why this one is of Rishaan’s favourite game. I at time fill his water gun with water and make him stand at the window facing garden area. He just sprays the water on the plants in the garden and loves taking to the birds and trees around. This serves the gardening purpose as well as the kids engagement too.

Skipping meals are making you slim or fat ?
Skipping meals would lead to weight loss? Are you serious?
When we talk about losing weight we try to lose fat not loosing muscle tissue.
But
with calorie deficit dietand
skipping meals
we tend to reducemuscle tissue
notFat
. Majorityof
peoplewho would like to reduce weight are focussed on skipping meals.
Misconception
is being rumoured to this extent that now a days "starvation" is new concept of weight loss.
If you answered yes, you are wrong.
Unfortunately,
by not eating
the weight you loseis more
of muscletissue
and not actual fat.
The goal to successful weight loss is to preserve as much muscle as possible, or possibly even gain some, while at the same time lose as much body fat as possible. Your body fat % is a key indicator of your success, not the scale. In fact, stay off the weighting scale.
Muscle is vital to your success for losing fat. Muscles have these little fat burning powerhouses called mitochondria. Mitochondria are cellular power
Houses
that are responsible for the production of energy. It’s in the mitochondria that fat is metabolized. There is a positive correlation between the amount of muscle you have and the number of mitochondria. And it stands to reason that the more mitochondria you have, the more the potential to burn fat.
To getmore of these little cell powerhouses? You need to be giving your body a reason to create more of them. You need to eat appropriately .You do this by performing high intensity exercise. By creating a large demand for energy up and above what your body can already produce, your body is forced to create new mitochondria in order to be prepared for the next time your muscles call on that needed extra energy.
Telling people to ignore their weight is a very common theme for us, and for good reason. Too many times successful dieting is sabotaged because of a meaningless number on a scale. A scale does nothing other than measure the force of gravity on your body. Why should this matter at all? It can’t tell you if your clothes fit better, it can’t tell you if your body fat percentage has changed, and it definitely won’t tell you that you’re looking any better.
When you start dieting (healthy eating), it is imperative that you track your progress using methods other than the scale. You need progress measuring tools that are going to track fat loss – not weight loss.
Preserve Muscle While Losing Fat
,
people
tend to sabotage their diets by eating too little food and too few nutrients resulting in muscle loss. Once you start losing muscle, you are fighting an uphill battle to lose fat.
Eventually
skipping mealscould lead to
,malnutrition
,
Ageing,
Reduced muscle strength,
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis,
Muscle Dystrophy,
Spinal muscular atrophy
etc.
Summary :
Skipping meals won’t help you to gain fitness. Let’s focus on fitness with our healthy meals not with skipping of meals.
•Get in enough calories for your body size and activity level.
• Make sure those calories are nutrient dense by having them come from fruits, vegetables, meats, legumes, tubers, dairy, and whole grains.
•Have balanced
and nutrient densemeal.
•Make sure you exercise and give your muscles a reason to maintain
themselves. If you don’t exercise, your body is going to shed that unneeded muscle. Force your body to preserve it and even grow it by giving it consistent stimulation.

A. It doesn’t mean anything because that means there is no clarity in the picture as of now you have to have to take a blood test to have better clarity on this because the tests are basically more confusing as of now so it’s better to check with a proper blood test

A. I think it’s better that you have a sonography with your doctor because this way even I cannot suggest you because you’ve got both the test so how can we sure about what the result is going to be going to be for you to check with your doctor regarding this as sonography can actually clear the picture for you

A. Saint Line usually means positive only but for further more if you want to go ahead with a clarity on that then you can get a beta HCG on an ultrasound with your doctor because one line is usually visible and second is faint right so it is positive
