Baby Sleep Problems - Effective Tips to Deal with Them
As a new parent, you might feel that every single action with your baby is a challenge- it might be hard to get him to eat, it might be hard to stop him from crying and most importantly, it can be extremely hard to get him to sleep. Sleep is extremely important for new babies, and therefore parents have to try and ensure that the baby gets enough sleep in his early years.
If you feel that the sleep patterns of the child re causing distress to you or the baby, it might be indicative of the child having a sleep problem. Let's look at a few of the common sleep problems and how parents can solve them for the benefit of the child.
What is a Sleep Problem?
The first step to an effective solution for the health of the baby is to identify whether he has a problem with his sleep. In the first six months of his life, it is normal for the baby to wake up during odd times of the night. The child will probably need nourishment and comfort with settling in the early months, and the manifestation of these may not be the result of a problem. The sleep patterns of the child can still vary after half a year, so it can be hard for parents to say if the baby has a sleep problem in a definite manner.
However, you can conclude that the baby has a problem if any of the three symptoms occur after he has become older than 6 months:
If the baby wakes up for more than 3 times a night, in a consistent manner.
If the baby takes more than half an hour to settle again after he has woken up.
If he has general difficulties with sleeping and settling, and this causes you a lot of distress as parents.
You should take to your doctor if you are still not sure about whether baby sleeping at night problems have been occurring.
Common Sleeping Problems in Infants with their Solutions
Here are some solutions to the common sleeping problems which parents have observed in their children.
1. Baby Falls Asleep Only if You Feed Him
This is a common problem for mothers, especially during the early stages. The reason for this may be that the baby has formed a feeding association with falling asleep, so he falls asleep only if he is feeding.
Solution:
The only way to make this alright is to gradually remove the association between feeding and falling asleep from the baby's mind. This can be done by moving your feeding time farther away from bedtime so that the child does not fall asleep easily when he is feeding. Make this a routine affair, so that your baby grows used to not sleeping during feeding.
2. Baby Can Sleep Only if You Rock Him in the Cradle
This is also similar to the problem given above, as it occurs due to a movement association in the mind of the baby. The baby associated sleeping with the gentle rocking of the infant swing or the cradle, and thus is able to fall asleep quicker.
Solution:
Similar to the first problem, the only solution to this is to gradually make your baby learn otherwise. This means that you will have to let your baby go to sleep for a few days with minimal to no rocking, by simply holding him in your arms without any movement.
3. Baby Sleeps Only if He is in a Warm Embrace, Either by You or the Wrap
This also occurs as a result of an association and is a common 6 months baby sleep problem. Your baby will be able to fall asleep only if he is closely held by a parent, or if he is in a cling.
Solution:
The solution to this problem too is to teach him otherwise and make him get used to sleeping without embracing his mother. You can tell your partner to hold him until he is asleep, or maybe even another family member can help. You can also use the pick up put down method to teach your baby to sleep on his own.
4. Baby Sleeps Only During Drives, or in the Car Seat
This is also another movement association and is common in children whose parents travel a lot. This is usually seen as a 12 months old baby sleeping problem. It could also be an indication of gastric issues like reflux or GERD which results in the car seat being particularly comfortable for the child.
Solution:
If the issue has been found to be a gastric problem, you should take care of your baby and treat the condition as soon as possible. Otherwise, the best thing to do is to remove this association like the other ones.
5. Baby Sleeps Only When He is Next to You in Bed
This also becomes evident only after the child grows up a little, as it is more of a force of habit for the baby. He might not be able to sleep anywhere else, as he is used to sleeping right next to his parents.
Solution:
Co-sleeping is common, so the best thing to do will be to slowly get the baby used to sleep away from you. There are many transitional plans, which can help you carry it out without your baby crying too much.
6. Baby Does Not Nap during Nap Time
Your baby might be sleeping well at night, but you might see that the child has a difficulty in falling asleep during naptime. This is because daytime sleeping and the night time sleeping are hands by different parts of the brain, so being good at one does not necessarily mean that your child can go to sleep whenever.
Solution:
Nap training is the only thing to do if this is the sleep problem you observe in your child.
7. Baby Wakes Up During the Night, Constantly
If you observe that your child is sleeping well enough when he is put to sleep, but then proceeds to wake up a lot during night time, it can be indicative of a sleep problem.
Solution:
You will need to understand why the baby wakes up, and do accordingly. If the child wakes up because of hunger, adjust his feed schedule- else, it might be a result of other sleep associations which you will have to work with.
8. Baby Wants to Feed at Odd Times of the Night
Another common problem, this is usually a newborn sleeping problem. This may be because your baby is sleeping more during the day and then waking up at night after ‘naps’ to feed.
Solution:
You will have to start reducing the amount of time he sleeps during the day and schedule his feeds more often during the day so that he wakes less at night.
9. Baby Wakes Up Earlier than you
This can be due to either of three problems- the bedtime of the baby may be too early, too late or he might be sleeping too much during the day. Sleeping too late can cause the child to be overtired, and consequently wake up before the mother does.
Solution:
Identifying the reason as to why the baby wakes up before you is the first thing you must do to move towards a solution. Then, gradually alter his bedtimes and sleep schedule so that he does not end up waking up before you. Since this is common in toddlers who still take an afternoon nap, you might want to reduce or remove the nap altogether from his schedule.
10. Baby Abruptly Stops Sleeping Properly
This can be owing to a lot of problems, and can occur at any time- 7-month baby sleeping problems are also a part of these. Teething, ill health, or simple sleep regressions may cause a drastic change in the sleep schedule of your child.
Solution:
You should try to understand the reason why this occurs- it might even be because of a change in the environment, or that potty training was started.
There can be a lot of reasons as to why your baby has sleeping problems, and it can be hard to know for sure. If you think that you cannot deal with it on your own, you should consult a doctor and get his help.

Keep These 56 Things Handy When Your Newborn Arrives
Being a new mom can be overwhelming – there is so little time and so much to do! One of the things that tend to get any new mom excited is buying things for her baby – there are so many cute prints, such bright colours, and just so, many, OPTIONS! It's very easy to miss out on important things, getting carried away on how beautiful everything in the store looks. So here is your most definitive list of things you will need to buy – for both you and your baby – when she arrives!
Feeding
Probably the first thing you are going to do as soon as you hold your newborn in your arms is nurse her. A major chunk of your baby’s initial months is going to be spent nestling lovingly in your arms while she goes glug-glug on your breast milk. Here are things you need to buy to make breastfeeding a comfortable, easy, and hassle-free experience for both of you.

Clothing
One of the greatest joys of being a new parent is to buy clothes for your little one! Your heart is bound to melt when you look at those teeny tiny clothes, all neatly stacked up in the store! However, it is important you buy everything necessary – while also buying everything cute and pretty! Here is a comprehensive list of clothes to buy when your baby arrives.

While there are no special clothes you need just because you now have a baby, here are a few tips you may want to keep in mind, which may affect your buying choices for the coming couple of years.
Buy clothes made of materials that are easy to clean and do not stain easily. Your baby is going to spit up, throw up, and sometimes even poop on you at some point in time, in the couple of years following her birth. Best be prepared for such casualties.

Your weight might fluctuate; so consider maxing out on sale periods, and getting clothes that can be altered easily.

Bathing
A baby is very delicate and requires a whole different level of care when it comes to cleanliness and hygiene. Not only do you want to look for products that are effective, but also for ones that will not harm your baby or have any ill-effects on her body, skin, hair and eyes.
Bathing Products for You:
Here are a few factors you may want to consider while making choices for yourself when it comes to bathing necessities.
Consider buying products that do not leave a strong smell behind. Your baby might get irritated when you are with her because of the smell. At the same time, it is important you get rid of whatever odour you pick up from your baby – poop, pee, spit-up, etc. Going out of the house and meeting people with ‘baby smell’ can be quite a turn-off!
SHOP MATERNITY PERSONAL CARE
NEVER use your bath products for your baby! Remember your baby’s skin is several times more delicate than your own; it is thinner and loses moisture more easily. Only use baby products for your little munchkin.
Bathing Products for Baby:
1. Top to Toe Baby Wash – a baby wash is a quick and easy way to refresh your baby. It is neither advised nor always possible, to give your baby a ‘water’ bath or wash. A baby wash will come handy at such times.
SHOP TOP TO TOE BABY WASH
2. Baby Soap – a baby soap is much milder than an adult soap, and will help to clean your baby, without damaging her skin.
SHOP BABY SOAP
3. Baby Shampoo – a shampoo that is not only mild on your baby’s scalp and hair but will also not make your baby cry, if it enters her eyes, is the one you want to choose – look for 'tear free' on the label.
SHOP BABY SHAMPOO
4. Comb – a baby’s hair, while it may not be long and thick, still needs to be combed and kept tangle free
SHOP COMB
5. Bathing Tub – a bath tub specially designed for babies might be the surest way to avoid unnecessary accidents while bathing.
SHOP BATHING TUB
6. Baby Towel – these are much softer than adult towels, made of only natural fibres, with no harmful chemicals used to treat the fabric.
SHOP BABY TOWEL
7. Nail Clipper – to trim your baby’s nails so she doesn’t accidentally hurt herself with them.

Sleeping
Did you know that newborn babies spend most of their early 4 months just sleeping? Your baby may sleep anywhere between 15 and 20 hours a day! Indeed her sleep environment has to be conducive to this. Here are the things you need to buy to ensure best quality sleep.
Sleeping Aid and Nursing Wear for You:

Breastfeeding and When to Start BLW? A Guide to New Mothers
March 13 2017 was the day I met my little angel who gave me a second life. The labor and delivery was a scintillating experience for me as a first time mommy. All throughout my pregnancy, I constantly kept myself occupied reading about the various ways people enjoyed being pregnant. I followed fellow blogger mommies who had different views on everything relating to pregnancy. Right from the tests, scan, food, workouts, and leisure time; my choices were abundant and I had plenty to choice from.
But, the one thing that was constantly running in my subconscious mind- VAGINAL DELIVERY and BREASTFEEDING.
That is also the time I started reading about breastfeeding. I also got to know there were classes for learning about various positions to feed the baby and that can be taken even before the delivery. There are also few hospitals who offer this as part of their package to expecting clients. Well, living in the 21st century, this is not something to be surprised of. This would not have been possible for our ancestors- say even our moms.
When I told my mom about this, she found it interesting and gave me a go ahead. Though we do have the elders guiding us through their experiences, they still agree on things like these.
A breastfeeding class can introduce us to some of the different positions and offer some reassurance that breastfeeding is not something that’s going to happen immediately. Baby and us are both going to need some time to get the hang of it.
The ‘Womanly Art of Breastfeeding’ is a wonderful book to start with, in case you do not have time to attend to classes.
These classes teach us about the different latches, feeding cues, and stomach size.
It is very important to get the first latch properly. This is done immediately in the labor room. My God, I really felt I was in heaven when I felt her lips. What more does a mother want?
And ladies, in case you are attending the classes birthing/ breastfeeding don’t forget to take your husbands. It is extremely necessary they accompany us, not just as moral support, but to get to know and be supportive.
I initially had little struggles with making my daughter feed, I was very worried about it. But, I did not give up. The main thing to focus during this time is not to fall into depression and not to lose hope. I strongly kept saying within me that I can feed my baby, I can satisfy her hunger needs, and I can do it. This positive vibe really did wonders, and slowly I starting seeing changes and feeding time became relaxing for both, me and my baby. Feeding with keeping the baby in the baby carrier was another blessing in this era. Though feeding in public is still a big “WHAT THE” in this society making a lot of heads turn, the carrier made it easier.
As the months passed, I noticed that she needed much more than only milk. That is when I decided to wean. I started with porridge and fruit purees. She had an instant liking. We can start this once the head gets the support and the baby can balance the head-neck. Apple purees, finger millet, and rice porridge were becoming her favourites.
SO, what is BLW or baby led weaning then?
We can start letting the baby taste and feel the textures by giving them small portions. Self-feeding improves hand-eye coordination. Baby learns to swallow, lick, and chew. Once the baby starts sprouting the first tooth, we can offer finger foods like carrots and beans. Take care to not feed nuts/peanuts as it may lead to choking.
Eating with the family is a great practice that can be cultivated as early as 8 months. The baby can watch others eat, so that they get to learn what and how.
And ladies, you can still continue breast feeding until the child is one. Nobody can stop you from that!

A. It is not a pre-term degree once you enter into your nine months you can deliver any time and it will be a full-time delivery so see if your gynaecologist is suggesting you something go for that because she’s monitored your pregnancy throughout these nine months so I think she would not suggest you anything wrong of going a sec for a second opinion you go for what your gynaecologist suggesting but try going ahead with a normal delivery

A. You have to take proper medications to balance your hormones and that is what is going to be helpful in a regular period cycle once your periods are regular you’ll be sure about the time when you’re on dating and that would be the right time for you to conceive so that is how you need to work upon it
