10 Signs of a Healthy Baby that Every Parent Must Know
Babies need a lot of care and as parents, you make sure you do everything possible for maintaining your baby’s good health and overall well-being. But babies cannot talk and tell us their situation and this puts parents in a difficult situation. But if you are observant then you may notice various signs that show you that your baby is healthy and also doing well. In the following article, we shall talk about some signs that every parent must know to establish the well-being of their babies.
10 Signs that Indicate your Baby is Healthy
As a mom you are always anxious for your baby’s health but how to know if the baby is healthy. Here we have some signs of a healthy infant that you should look for in your baby:
1. If Your Baby Demands Frequent Breastfeeding
Babies are born with an innate sucking reflux, which means that as soon as you get anything close your baby’s mouth, he may begin sucking it. If your baby has a good sucking urge and asks for frequent feeds this means that your baby has a good appetite and a good digestive system. If your baby makes a gulping sound when he swallows milk, this means that he is feeding well. A baby who feels satiated may sleep post the feeding session.
2. If Your Baby Feels Calmed And Soothed By Your Presence And Voice
Your baby spends 9 months in your womb and all this while your voice had become an important part of your baby’s existence. After your baby’s birth too, he may listen and respond to your voice and this is a hint that your baby is on the right track of emotional development. If you are able to soothe your crying baby or he pays attention whenever you talk to your baby, it is evident that your baby is hale and hearty.
3. If You Are Changing 4-6 Diapers In A Day
Yes, your baby’s pee and poop also define how healthy he is. No matter whether your baby is breastfed or is on formula milk, on an average he should be wetting 4 to 6 diaper in a day. This is a clear indication that your baby is not only feeding well but he is also properly hydrated. Your baby will also show a considerable weight gain in the first few weeks after birth. However, if your baby is wetting fewer diapers in a day or not showing substantial weight gain, this means he is not feeding well. Also, darker coloured urine indicates dehydration in babies.
4. If Your Baby Is Gaining Adequate Weight And Height
Every time you take your baby to the doctor, your doctor measure your baby’s weight and height. In the first six months, your baby grows fast and on an average, your baby may gain 5 to 7 oz of weight and ½ to 1 inch of height every week. As a matter of fact, if your baby is approximately twice his birth by 5 months and thrice his birth weight by the time he is one year old, this means he is healthy. You may ask your doctor about your baby’s ideal weight and height.
5. If Your Baby Looks At You And Smiles
Your baby is able to look at you and make an eye contact by the time he is one month old, your baby may smile at you by the time he is two months old and he may giggle out loud by the time he is four months old. By the end of five months, your baby may smile back at you. As soon as you register your baby making cooing and babbling sounds, this may mean that he is all set to speak his first words. These small milestones are indicative of the fact that your baby is growing in a healthy way and he is also aware of his surroundings.
6. If Your Baby Observes Various Things Around Him
At birth, your baby’s vision is not that great and everything seems blurred to him. However, as your baby grows he observes and focuses on things around him. After birth your baby’s vision is limited to 8 to 12 inches only, however, this increases gradually and your baby starts looking and focusing on objects that are farther. Therefore, if your baby has his gaze fixed on the ceiling, he may be observing a moving fan. This is a sign that your baby is growing in a healthy manner.
7. If Your Baby Responds To New Sounds
Your baby is able to hear before birth, which means he is aware of various sounds and noises when he was in your womb. However, babies are not able to recognize sounds but as your baby starts growing he may develop a better understanding of various sounds around him. You may notice him reacting to the sound of music, television and even sound from the toys. Whenever your baby may hear a new sound you may see him react, which is a good sign of healthy development.
8. If Your Baby’s Stool Are Regular
Though it may sound a bit strange your baby’s poop is also helpful in determining how well he may be doing in terms of his health. Babies have a different frequency in passing stool, where some may poop few times a day others may poop once in few days. There is no need to feel concerned till the time your baby’s stools are normal, which means that they are soft and your baby is comfortable in passing the stool.
9. If Your Baby Sleeps Well
Sleeping is very important for the overall development of the babies and if your baby sleeps well he will grow well too. As your baby grows, his improved nervous system will help him get into various schedules and sleep is one of them. If your baby sleeps well, this means he is happy and contented and therefore, it is a sign of healthy development.
10. If Your Baby Is Able To Support His Own Weight
When your baby is one month or older, he may be able to lift his head briefly and by the time he turns three months, he may be able to lift his head for a longer time by lying on his tummy. This is a great indication that your baby has control over his muscles and thus trying to make various movements. By six months of age your baby may roll on both sides, sit with support and by the time he is one year old, he will be able to crawl, stand and walk with support. These all are indicators of a healthy baby.
Above-mentioned are some of the signs that show that your baby is doing fine. However, if you experience any developmental delays, it is suggested that you seek help from your doctor in understanding the reason and take necessary measures to cure the same.

Fantasy vs. Reality In Your Toddler
A toddlers understanding of fantasy being different from reality has to be ingrained by parents at just the right age and stage. This makes sure they don't confuse their imagination with the reality around them.
Fantasy is a big, beautiful world. To tingle our children's imagination, we expose them to this wonderful world right from the beginning- telling them stories, talking about fairies and angels, showing them different cartoons and movies that are heavy on fantasy. At the time of growing up, the child believes that all that is being told to him is real until he nearly grows out of being a pre-schooler. It is your prerogative to expose your child to the difference between fantasy and reality. Let's learn how.
Teaching Toddlers About Reality vs. Fantasy
Understand the Child's Perception
Toddlers start understanding the difference between reality and imagination by the time they reach 3-4 years of age. Their understanding of reality is going through the routine of the day, say, going to a birthday party, the playground and the other exciting things he does in the day. For him, fantasy would be cartoon characters, story books and when he does pretend play. However, if your toddler is fond of watching Spiderman and if an artist lands up in the costume of Spiderman at a birthday party, this is sure to confuse him.
Fantasy Empowers Too
The option of completely keeping your child away from fantasy is neither possible nor feasible. In fact, in many situations, pretend play helps a child build his creativity and overcome certain fears like that of falling and getting hurt. Of course, there isn't any harm in keeping an eye on your child's idea of what is fantasy. Encourage him to see the reality of things for the sake of caution. Tell him a superhero can jump forty floors, but in the real world, it could cause unimaginable injuries. Therefore, fantasy is equally important for a child as much as reality.
Helping Toddlers to Differentiate Reality from Fantasy
This difference can be shown best while playing with him or watching a movie. You can introduce the concept of acting and tell him that the actors on the television are pretend playing. You can also show another movie of the same actor in a different role to drive home your point. This will be a fun exercise and will make the concept of what is imaginary and what is crystal clear.
Watch Out for Symptoms
Caution needs to be exercised when fantasy stretches too far and the toddlers understanding of reality becomes warped. Symptoms of this could be if the child stops interacting with friends, constantly lives in his make-believe world, and has conversations with imaginary characters all the time. At this time, you may need to seek professional help.
Parents need to be cautious as well as sensitive while teaching toddlers about reality and fantasy. Do share with us your methods of dealing with this. Read more

This Sunday has special meaning for all the Daddies out there. It’s Father’s Day! While one day can never be enough to thank our Dads for all that they do, it sure is a start. Now, while we admit it is an exciting occasion, there are some Indian celebrities who are giving excitement new meaning! Can you guess just why this Father’s Day is going to be an occasion they will never forget?
For some people, life is going to change this year. For some others, it already has. We are talking about having a little baby of your own! Becoming a parent is a life-altering experience which, in the span of a few months, makes you a better and more responsible individual, not to forget, loving!
We have brought you a set of five Indian celebrities who recently became, or are soon going to become, Dads. This Father’s Day is their first one as Daddy or Daddy-to-be, and going by how they have been gushing, we can only guess the special plans they have in store!
1. Aditya Chopra

The top Bollywood filmmaker became father to little girl Adira – a beautiful combination of Aditya and his wife Rani Mukherjee’s name – in December last year. The delighted Dad has already taken his daughter and wife along to Paris for a shoot. This is to ensure he doesn’t have to stay away from his family! And guess what, the man has plans that go beyond Father’s Day: he is planning to release his new, much-awaited film Befikre on December 9th. That’s his daughter’s birthday!
Psst, if you are also looking at some inspiration to finalise a baby name, you have to see our top 101 baby names list.
2. Riteish Deshmukh
[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="647"] Source: indiatoday.intoday.in[/caption]
This lucky Dad gets to celebrate Father’s Day afresh this year – he just became Daddy to another cutie called Rahyl! Riteish is a very involved Daddy and loves having conversations and discussions that center on the center of his universe – his kids! This Father’s Day, we think Riteish’s one simple parenting lesson summarises what all of us want to tell our children -
“(I want) To give him space and to teach him to respect. I think that’s the core of any person. If you learn to respect, everything else will follow because that is the basic root of how you develop as a human being, as a person. You have to understand the value of respect. You can’t expect to be respected without respecting someone. So, I hope that I am able to instill that core value.”
3. Suresh Raina
[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="450"] Source: indiatoday.intoday.in[/caption]
Our favourite Indian cricketer has a new favourite in his life – his daughter Gracia! The excited Dad flew down to Netherlands in the middle of the IPT tournament so that he could be with his wife and his newborn child. This was the first IPL match he missed in nine years – but then, nothing quite as big as the moment you become Daddy, right?
4. Shahid Kapoor
[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="750"] Source: https://www.instagram.com/shahidkapoor/[/caption]
Guess what we as moms love most about Dads-to-be? The adorable way in which they pamper us! This is exactly what Shahid Kapur has been doing to his wife Mira Rajput – pampering!
Shahid is expecting his first child in September, which is only three months from now. So, right from taking Mira to an exotic babymoon to the Maldives to braiding her hair for her, he is going all out. This is a busy time for him also because he is remodelling his house. After all, everything must be ready to welcome the little angel who’s going to become a part of his life. Shahid’s eagerness to embrace the Daddy role was evident in the way he first announced it –
“Haan main baap banne wala hoon. Ghooma phirake kyu pooch rahe ho?
” (Yes, I am going to be a father. Why aren’t you asking me directly?)
We get it, Shahid!
5. Harbhajan Singh
[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Source: https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/[/caption]
After Raina, here’s yet another member of the Indian Cricket Team who’s all set to welcome parenthood. Harbhajan and Geeta (who just had a really gorgeous baby shower) are expecting their first child in July. What with Geeta’s pregnancy glow and the Dad-to-be’s unabashed delight, we are sure the baby is going to feel very, very welcome!
Now, this is what we call pure, unadulterated bliss! There is no experience that quite matches the feeling of becoming a father for the first time – the excitement, the fear, the overwhelming flurry of emotions…We wish these new Daddies and Daddies-to-be all the very best in their parenting journey. Have a very special Father’s Day! Read more

A. I don’t think so ACv is going to be a problem but it would be better that you check with your doctor because Apple cider vinegar has couple of side-effects also also which a lot of people are not aware about so do not take it without your doctors advice and consent

Q. #asktheexperts can i go for long trips with my 7 months old baby
Rashmi

A. Going to be dependent on your comfort because now your child would be eating semisolid food as well so not totally dependent on you so if you are comfortable with it then you can go because the child is dependent on you so you just have to see if you can manage semisolid food and the feeding for the child comfortably
