International Yoga Day - History, Significance and Objectives
Yoga originated in India around 5000 years ago and since then, this physical, emotional and spiritual practice has helped the human race maintain better health and overall well-being. If you're looking for calm, peace and tranquillity, yoga is something that you should definitely take out time for. On 21st June every year, we celebrate World Yoga Day for spreading the importance and awareness of yoga amongst people of the world. Let us find out more about International Yoga Day, its history, significance and objectives, in this article.
What is the History of World Yoga Day?
On 27th September, 2014, during a UN General Assembly meeting, Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi spoke about the invaluable gift of yoga that ancient Indian tradition has given to the world. In a very impactful and convincing speech, the Prime Minister laid emphasis on the fact that yoga would help in bringing harmony between man and nature. The initiative was appreciated and the proposal to designate 21st June as International Yoga Day was decided by 193 members of the UN General Assembly on 11th December, 2014. The yoga day proposal was supported by more than 170 countries. The following year, World Yoga Day was celebrated on 21st June for the first time. Approximately 35,000 people from all over of the world participated in the mass yoga session held at Rajpath, New Delhi. The session lasted approximately 35 minutes and 21 yoga mudras were practised during the session.
Why Is International Day of Yoga Celebrated Specifically on 21st June?
Many of us wonder what is so special about 21st June that it is designated as World Yoga Day. We all know that 21st June is the longest day of the summer solstice in Northern Hemisphere, or in other words, this is the time of the year when the sun moves from north to south. It is also one of the two important days when the rays of the sun fall directly on either of the two tropical latitude lines. It is believed that this change brings a significant impact on people. According to yoga gurus, this transition period is a good time to practise yoga. Another significant reason for choosing this day is that on this day Adiyogi, the first known yogi, embarked upon a journey towards the south with seven royal sages. These sages later became Adiyogi’s first disciples and also helped in propagating the importance of yoga in other parts of the world.
Therefore, it was decided that 21st June will be celebrated as International Yoga Day.
What are the Objectives of International Yoga Day?
Here are some of the main objectives of International Yoga Day:
To introduce people to the art of meditation, one of the many practices for channelizing energies of our body and mind.
To help people of the world understand and know the many benefits of yoga in healing the mind, body and soul.
To help people make a connection or be in sync with nature and their natural surroundings, which we tend to forgo while tending to our never-ending work or personal demands.
To help various communities to come forward and spend a day, which is specifically dedicated to embracing the importance of health and well-being.
To help people understand and adopt yoga for better physical and mental health and well-being.
To help people get over or fight various medical issues by practising regular yoga.
To help people know the benefits of yoga in maintaining higher levels of physical, mental and spiritual health.
To help people adopt a healthy lifestyle and habits and let go of unhealthy practices.
To maintain and strengthen a global-connect with people from different parts of the world.
To help people get relief from everyday stress.
To help spread the message of love, peace and oneness amongst the people of the world.
To help decrease mild to severe medical issues faced by the people of all age groups.
To help gain people’s attention towards the holistic benefits of practising the art of yoga.
How Is Yoga Day Celebrated?
In India and also in many parts of the world, International Yoga Day is celebrated with full fervour and enthusiasm. There are many yoga camps, seminars, training programs, workshops, etc., that are organised by government and non-government organisations at mass levels. It is a common practice for people to gather in large groups in a park or ground and practise yoga mudras or asanas. Lectures and talks are also organised to spread the importance and significance of practising yoga in our day-to-day lives. Many yoga gurus and trainers also hold various kinds of training programs or sessions across the country.
From time immemorial, the practice of yoga has been believed to be one of the best ways of connecting the mind with the body. It is an ancient practice of holistic healing that can help anyone in maintaining good overall health and well-being. There are a number of yoga asanas that suit people of various age groups. Also, many asanas can be amended depending upon your health condition and age. Therefore, yoga should undoubtedly become a part of our life as it not only helps us in keeping good physical health but also helps sustain it. However, before indulging or doing or performing any yoga asana for the first time, make sure you seek the help of a professional in understanding the correct breathing techniques and practices. Once you master the poses, you can safely perform the asanas at home. However, if you are suffering from any kind of medical disorder or problem, we suggest that you consult your physician before trying any new kind of physical workout or exercise.

5 Inspirational Movies You Can Watch With Your Kids
Kids, especially those from 4-9 years want to experience everything around them. Apart from playing outdoor/indoor games, they also want to explore television shows, cartoons and movies. We, as parents, are always in a dilemma about what to let a kid watch and for how much time.
We need to limit screen time. However, if your child is still keen on watching television, why not let him/her watch kids movies or inspirational movies that can be beneficial in terms of understanding the practical aspects of life? I have brought you a list of inspirational movies that can be watched by a child.
First, you should watch the full movie and then watch it again with your kid, so that you can answer all the questions that she has while watching the movie. Also, this allows you to take a call on whether you want your child to watch a particular movie or not.
1. Sniff
This is a light-hearted children’s film that depicts a child who cannot smell. An accident in the school lab and what happens next is not only attention-grabbing but also surprising and interesting.
Takeaway: The child learns to have empathy for others. Also, it clearly shows that nothing is impossible in this huge world if she wishes to do it.
2. I Am Kalam
This is a delightful kids’ film about Chhotu, a poor child labourer who is inspired by Dr APJ Kalam. He wants to go to school and learn English but his poverty does not allow him to. However, he leaves no stone unturned to fight his destiny.
Takeaway: The child learns to follow the dreams.
3. Taare Zameen Par
A story about an 8-year old boy who is thought of as a trouble-maker and daydreamer until an unconventional art teacher helps his parents realise that their son has dyslexia.
Takeaway: Parents who expect their child to get good grades without understanding their real potential can learn a lot from this film.
4. Dumbo
A fantasy adventure film about a young baby elephant whose over-sized ears enable him to fly, and how he helps save his struggling circus.
Takeaway: Along with adventure and drama, the entire story portrays many emotional phases and makes your child develop a sense of sympathy and love for animals.
5. Malli
A film developed by CFSI, Children’s Film Society India, Malli, a poor tribal girl in Kerala, helps her family by fetching firewood and spending time with her hearing- and speech-impaired friend. Things take a turn when she learns about a magical blue stone that can help her friend.
Takeaway: Hearty moments touch the soul and explain that friendship is above all. Also, it teaches your child to treat the animals with love.
A few movies which I liked watching with my daughter are:
Cinderella
Barbie
Beauty and the Beast
The Little Mermaid
Bhootnath
Every child is different and so we are parents. Their choices may differ from ours. Spend some time watching these movies with your kids. They will really love them.

Yay I did it – Exclusively breastfed!!!!
My Preparedness for this Journey .
I stil remember very clearly, my breastfeeding journey began much before the little
one had even arrived, I believe that is because I was determined that I wanted
my kiddo to be exclusively breastfeed, so, I was on a mission I researched
everything so well, was speaking to my pre- natal comates, coaches and getting
tips from my mom friends and most importantly reading up as much as possible. So
finally, when the day arrived for the first latch my son had no problem latching on right away, so
basically making sure you are aware of techniques was my very first learning. Also,
this was despite a C-section delivery so the first very common myth was busted
right there that you can’t feed comfortably if you have a c-section.
I had a late pregnancy and was
always doubtful if I will have a healthy pregnancy or not so made sure I was
doing 3 things religiously, reading up on pregnancy and post pregnancy care,
eating right during and importantly after pregnancy and last but not the least
exercising. One more thing that goes without saying is the support of your
spouse which is the most important. I remember tagging along my husband to as
many prenatal classes as possible so he also understands the nuances of baby
and mother care.
There can’t be anything more important
than a supporting husband as I remember the first 3 months are tuff on a first-time
mom most especially the feeding sessions which last for 20 mins each and the burping
right after and diaper change if needed and before you know it, its time again
for the next feeding session every 2 hours that too round the clock. So, if I
was able to pull along and complete the 3 months successfully with more than
expected weight gain of the baby was because we kept at it making sure I was
feeding the baby once every two hours.
Ok I want to emphasize and like I do
tell every new mom that I meet, follow this schedule and it will help set up a
sort of routine for you and your baby and get some me time while the baby sleeps
because my baby was on a clock, I knew exactly what times I needed to feed him,
so really if you get their bath time and feeding times in, their sleep time
will fall in place without any hassles. So, trust me when I say this, I had a
timetable baby by the end of 6 months. It just made life that much simpler, of
course there were good and not so good days but that is all a part of the
journey!
There are peaks and valleys with
breastfeeding and sometimes you will thoroughly enjoy it, and sometimes you
will resent it–but in the end you will not regret that you stuck with it, even
though you were not feeling that joy 100% of the time. When you are in a
valley, rest assured that the joy you have felt with feeding in the past will
reappear and you will be glad you pushed through and reap the benefits for a
long time to come. Read more

10 Food Combinations Which Sound Gross But Taste Amazing
We all have one member in our family who eats curd rice with jam or has coffee with coconut oil. It definitely raises a few eyebrows. But surprisingly some food combinations that seem gross, taste good and are even good for the body. There are certain food combinations like, chilli flavoured chocolates, jalapenos in sweet jelly or even the famous pineapple and cheese which are fast becoming a favourite among people. Let us look at some strange food combinations that people try.
Strange Food Combinations People Actually Love
Here is a list of odd food combinations that seem to be working for people:
1. Sandwich Cookies Dipped in Orange Juice
You must have tried sandwich cookies with milk or even added them in your milkshake. But have you ever dipped a sandwich cookie in orange juice? It is not as unpleasant as you might think it to be. In fact, it is rather like having an orange flavoured cookie. The orange flavour is enjoyable and mixes well with the chocolate cookie, giving you a surprisingly pleasant flavour.
2. Fries with Whipped Cream
We all love munching on fries, don't we? But do you dip them into your favourite whipped cream? Hot fries dipped in whipped cream is in the rage right now, and it combines the crunchy, hot flavour of the fries with the smooth and creamy whipped cream which just melts in your mouth. Many people also eat fries with vanilla ice cream, peanut butter, or even honey.
3. Banana Bread with Cheese
This is a classic sweet with a salty combination, and it works like magic in your mouth. Take a slice of banana bread, place a slice of cheese on it, and cover it with another slice of bread. It tastes delicious. Banana bread with cheese is like having your banana bread with buttercream or icing. It is also a healthy combination because the cheese gives your body its share of proteins for the day and reduces the calories that you would have gained from the buttercream otherwise.
4. Coffee with Coconut Oil
The thought of a spoonful of saturated fat in your morning coffee doesn't sound healthy. Surprisingly though, this wretched combination is advocated by fitness experts all over the world. Adding a teaspoon or two of coconut oil into your coffee and blending it can help boost your metabolism and also aid in burning calories. You’ll be surprised that it tastes the same as your normal coffee and you can barely sense the oil in the coffee.
5. Soy Sauce with Vanilla Ice Cream
This is a surprisingly fantastic combination. The soy sauce adds a hint of salty taste to your vanilla ice cream and gives it a genuinely agreeable twist. A few people may try it, but it's not a favourite. After all, ice cream is pure and it tastes great without adding anything to it.
6. Pizza with Melted Chocolate
We love to eat pizza just the way it is, but then there are some who like to sweeten it up a bit. Yes, there are many people who like to eat pizza with melted chocolate. And the sin of eating calorie-abundant pizza is multiplied by adding a layer of melted chocolate on it.
7. Khakhra with Chocolate
Eating khakhra with chocolate spread or melted chocolate dip is like eating comfort food with extra comfort. Although it sounds utterly gross, it is the most indulgent snack you could have on a lazy weekday or on a cosy weekend!
8. Chocolate Momos
The dumplings from Northeast India have gone through the mill of experimentation, and you will find ample variations in momos - chocolate momos being one of them. This delectable version of the steaming soul food is something that may not sound so great, but is popular and sought after by many.
9. Chocolate with Dosa
Yes, people do eat dosa with chocolate. It sounds completely outlandish, but nowadays, many restaurants serve chocolate dosa. You may not like it at first, but once you grow accustomed to the taste, you’ll be asking for seconds.
10. Noodle Samosa
Ever heard of noodle samosa? We know you said 'no'. But many people are trying this out. It has got itself an oriental twist, and it is tasty too. Noodle samosa sounds strange, but you can always try it out - you never know you might like it.
Bizarre Food Combinations That Definitely Shouldn't Exist
There are food combinations that sound gross but are utterly delectable. There are other food combinations, however, which are too abominable to be allowed to exist. Here are some crazy food combinations that shouldn’t exist according to us:
1. Peanut Butter and Hummus Sandwich
Hummus with peanut butter seems like a weird combination, right? It is and it certainly shouldn’t exist on any conceivable menu in the world.
2. Bacon Dipped in Vinegar
Bacon tastes delicious and vinegar with the right food is good. Combine the two, and you have just got the worst tasting bacon strips ever. So, it should never find a place in your menu.
3. Mushroom and Peaches Combined with Blue Cheese
Foods of a certain palate are combined together because they blend well. In some alternate universe, however, somebody thought it was a great idea to combine the strong flavour of mushrooms with soft peaches and then mix in some blue cheese too. But when you taste it, you might regret it. So, avoid!
Certain food combinations taste delicious even though they may sound strange. We hope you are brave enough to stomach some of the fun ones and wise enough to avoid the really bizarre ones. Be safe and have fun experimenting with these food combinations.

The Cute Tiny Little Teacher Who Taught Many New Things!
Like every mother, I had many thoughts in my mind from the day I knew that I have you in me😊.The thoughts to keep you happy , make sure you are always comfortable, shape you as a good girl 🙂 what not....huh! Finally the day arrived...ohhh! The labor pains😭, with lot of fight with myself, I finally was able to bring you out with the blessings of God and had you beside me....the moment I saw you i was head over heels in love with you....ohh my cute little angel 😘... How can I describe you?....
With tears of joy out of my eyes I remembered my responsibility to teach you your very first lesson - feeding 🙂....but to my surprise even before I taught you, you took your feed like a boss 😎 which became my first lesson from you 😇 that there are few things / talents in everyone which God gives by birth and its upto us to get them.....
As days passed you made me realize / learn many new things...
With your timings of sleep and play you made me learn to manage my time with smart planning....
You taught me to be quick enough at doing things eating, bath etc etc , keeping your feeding time in mind...
On each day of your vaccination you teach me to control my emotions and to be strong....
You taught me patience, to be cautious of surroundings, to wait for any fruitful result with patience,
You made me to realise what a true love is, how to forget everything thant let me down with a smile and move on....
You taught me to stay positive with faith in God in situations that are out of my hands......
If I go back to the day when you introduced yourself to me (when i saw a faint thin line on the dip stick) you started teaching me and making me realize many things which life hasn't taught me all these years..
Above everything you made me realize my own strength with the labor pains that I bore to bring my angel to this world...
Thus you become my teacher even before you entered this world and before I became yours 🥰 Going forward all I need to do is to keep learning from you and master all of them.I am sure that all those that you have taught me will not only make me good mom but also a good human being 🙂
I offer give great thanks to my God who chose me as your mother due to which only you could become my sweet little teacher.

It's Not You, It's The Colour! Shades that Empty Your Wallet Faster
Modern marketing strategy has gone way beyond conventional means of playing to a target audience with catchy TV jingles. Colours that make people buy things are what's hot in retail marketing. Find out if you're an impulse shopper or a budget-conscious one.
You may attribute your shopping urges to a brief impulse. But no, it’s a clever strategy of sellers placing the right colours in a shop window to attract buyers. The next time you feel the need to buy something when passing by a store window, ask yourself if it’s the colours that attract you or the merchandise.
Understanding Colour Psychology for Spending
When you find yourself staring helplessly at a product in a shop window, be it a nightgown or a pair of sandals, it’s actually the colour playing to your senses. It’s a fact in marketing circles that the psychology of spending money can depend heavily on attractive colours. It’s also been proven that certain colours create impulses within your brain to extract an affinity for that colour. In layman’s terms, colours reflect your personality, which proves why you may find black simply irresistible or love a cute pink!
What’s your colour addiction?
So what exactly are the colours that make people buy things? What is your colour addiction? Would it be a scarlet red or a vibrant blue? Would a flashy red halter neck gown displayed on a mannequin attract you into purchasing it? If yes, then you’re an impulse shopper.
1. Intense colours
According to analysis of categorising shoppers based on colour patterns, intense hues like red, royal blue and yellow have great potential to influence the impulsive shopper. The next time you feel tempted to get a pretty blue cocktail dress or a sunny yellow summer dress, remind yourself to look away!
2. Black
Black is associated with sophistication, hence the term ‘little black dress’ and it’s a well known fact that if stores put LBDs up for sale, they usually sell pretty well. But unless you actually need a new dress, stop yourself from entering a store.
3. Pink
Though pink is considered a sweet colour and there are many women who prefer a pink dress or cute pink lingerie over other colours, it isn’t exactly a hue that attracts an impulsive shopper. Women who like pink are more budget-conscious and don’t splurge easily.
4. Green
If you’re an environmentally conscious woman, you could be drawn to the colour green as it reflects nature. A green vase or a pair of green shoes could catch your eye easily. But keep in mind that just because something’s green, it doesn’t mean it’s eco-friendly!
5. White
The colour white symbolises purity and honesty. No wonder spending on a white product makes you feel good! But despite your justification for splurging on a white garment, remember that you don’t have to buy it unless you really need it.
Marketers understand colours that make people buy things, which is why storefronts display products in certain colours. But now that you’re wise, you can beat them at their own game! And if you just can’t help yourself from reaching for something and your hubby frowns at a high credit card bill, tell him it’s all about colour and you just couldn’t help it! Read more
