Eating Milestone For Babies
Take a quick look at the eating milestone of your baby by the way of this article. In addition, find out the right time to wean off your baby, as he progresses from bottle or breast to semi solid foods and then to solids.
It is perfectly fine for a newborn baby to survive on breastfeed or bottle feed, especially during the initial weeks. As he grows, his palate needs to be widened. Beginning with the introduction of water, he will move onto soups and semi-solids, and by the end of his first year, he might well be feeding himself, though clumsily. Take a look at a baby’s eating milestones:
Water First
Water should be introduced only after the baby is six months old. Before it, his stomach is small and he needs to stock up on nutrients from breast feed or his bottle. Between 6-8 months, he will learn to drink from a cup held by someone else.
Starting Solids
4 -7 months is seen as the ideal age to introduce solids. This is the time when babies begin to give up the “tongue-thrust reflex”. It's a reflux which makes it difficult for them to eat, but it may help them suck. However, if you have been exclusively breastfeeding your baby, you might like to wait for 3 more months before you bring in the solids.
Past The Puree
Purees and mashed foods are the first step towards eating solids. Babies take time making this progression, and it should be introduced using a gradual step-by-step process : from soups to purees to chunkier solids. You do not need to wait for their teeth to come – they are good at chewing soft solid foods like rice and lentils using their gums. By 8 months, your baby will have learnt to chew by moving food in his mouth with his tongue.
Onto The High Chair And Using Spoons
As soon as the baby can hold his head and neck, and can sit with support, he can be put in a high chair. He might just like sitting on the high-chair even though he might have a long way to go before he starts to feed himself.
Finger Foods
Between 7 and 11 months, the baby is ready to try finger foods. He will indicate his readiness by trying to grab food from you. He will enjoy trying out soft food items like carrots, pasta and chicken cut into bite-sized pieces. By the time he’s 11 months old, he should have learnt to use his fingers to pick up food rather than raking it with his hand.
Allergen Foods
Some doctors say high allergenic foods should be introduced only after your baby turns into a toddler. However, if you have no family history of food allergies, you can try foods like soft boiled egg or fish even earlier.
You Might Consider Help if Your Baby
Throws up frequently or seems in pain.
Has chronic diarrhea or constipation.
Finds it tough to chew food and relies heavily on purees.
Habitually keeps food in his mouth for long periods.
Has an allergic skin reaction to some foods.
The progression to solids is a gradual one. Do not be in a hurry to introduce new foods. Allow the baby to take his time to learn to enjoy and savour new textures and flavours. Read more

This Mom Has Found an Amazing Trick To Make Diaper Changing a LOT Easier!
Changing diapers is the one daunting task every parent dreads and that is bound to get messy – especially when travelling with the baby. Handling all that pee and poop and managing to keep sane is something we learn only with time - and even then, it does tire us out. One enterprising mom, however, has discovered a diaper changing hack that promises to be life-changing for every hassled parent!
Diaper changing is one babycare routine that we mothers have to get used to, for several years in our baby's life. Generally, children are not toilet trained (at least, not foolproof and definitely risky for venturing outside home!) till the age of 3-4 years. Till then, diapers/nappies are our best friends. While most mothers become experts at doing this while at home, we could all use some help when it needs to be done while travelling, or when the diaper is especially messy!
That struggle of stuffing a million things into our handbags (which are now 'diaper bags') and wasting precious minutes in separating hankies from keys and lipsticks - that struggle is very real. Many of us have experienced accidents, soiled clothes, and the extreme discomfort of mess - both on our baby and our part!
It is this common problem that tempted one creative mommy to find an innovative solution for nappy/diaper changing on the go. Recently, mommy and artist Elizabeth shared this hack on her Facebook page 'The Painted Dragon': a neatly packed Nappy Changing Kit!
Here is how this mom made this using items readily available at home:
What you need -
A plastic baby wipes dispenser box
Rubber bands
Items you want to put in the kit (e.g. clothes, changing mat)
Steps -
Use a plastic baby wipes dispenser box to make your nappy-changing kit
The secret behind this neat and handy box is simple rubber bands! Simply tie the wipes to the top of the dispenser box using rubber bands – leaving enough space for you to store your baby's essentials
Instead of just wipes, the box contains nappy changing essentials every mother needs, including mini bags for soiled clothes/nappies! This mom even managed to fit in some spare clothing such as onesies in case of some (highly likely) accidents!
This is how the final homemade nappy changing kit looks:
After the post went viral, the mom added another unique aspect to her nappy box, under “IMPROVEMENTS MADE". Here is the addition she made:
Poked 8 strategically placed holes, strung them with embroidery floss, and tied the headband to the inside. Then dotted the knots with super glue so they would hold for longer.
Then if the rubber band breaks or gets too old, it can be easily replaced with a new one. I also put a roll of doggie bags in there for disposal and keeping the soiled clothes in."
What Moms Think About this Nappy Changing Trick
Ever since the mom shared the hack on her Facebook page, it has gone viral with parents around the world excited to try it out! As simple as it may seem, the hack is pure genius and something every parent will find useful. Many moms have dropped in with their comments and experiences on putting the trick to use.
One mom said, "Good idea for in the car as a backup!" Another found it particularly useful for the summer, saying, "This is brilliant, and with summer coming up and being out and about, you could do one for the van and one for the stroller!”
We think this is a really ingenious trick for a problem that all of us face fairly often. It has so many possibilities too - for example, you do not need to carry your entire bag to a public restroom or a restaurant's washroom when you need to change your baby's diapers. You can also create multiple kits which are ready to pick up and use, so there's no question of forgetting something and being in soup when you need it.
What do you think, moms? Will you try this out for your baby? Do tell us in the comments.

Play Dough and Your Toddler
Toddlers are naturally curious, and love exploring objects and their surroundings from the moment they learn to take their first few steps. Play dough toys for toddlers are therefore a great educational activity that awakens sensory play in them and promotes creativity and imagination in their young minds.
There’s plenty of reason to get your toddler engrossed in play-dough activities. It contributes in developing fine motor skills in toddlers who are at an age where their tiny hands, wrists and fingers are constantly in motion from anything and everything in their grasp. It also provides opportunities for imaginative play and makes way for a rich learning experience. Here are some fun ideas and activities for a play-dough-filled day.
Play-dough Activities for Toddlers that Combine Fun and Learning
1. Play-dough to Encourage Language Skills
Play-dough is a wonderful way to introduce new words into your toddler’s vocabulary. It's indeed one of the best play-dough games for 20-month-old toddlers when they are in the process of developing their language skills. Words such as squeeze, smash, stir, pull, roll, cut, etc. come into play that helps your little one understand and relate to the respective action.
2. Making Shapes With Play-dough
Making shapes with play-dough is one of the most common activities enjoyed by toddlers. A fun way of presenting shapes is by creating your child’s favourite cartoon or story book character, animals, or a much-liked fruit or vegetable. The aim behind these play-dough ideas for toddlers is to make something that that he or she can relate to and that which generates much excitement.
3. Using Play-dough Recipe for Toddlers
Edible play-dough for toddlers is the best alternative to traditional play-dough when toddlers can’t help but place items in their mouths and parents don’t have the time for constant supervision. There are various play-dough recipes available in flour, cornstarch and oatmeal etc. that are easy to make and completely safe for babies. So even if the play-dough finds its way into your toddler’s stomach you can rest easy.
4. Joining in the Fun
When supervising play-dough activities with your little one, try joining in the fun yourself. Follow what they are doing and get yourself involved in the same action. Babies love it when you communicate with them on their level, and this will keep them engrossed in the activity even longer. Plus it encourages conversation. Just be careful not to take away from what they are doing or change the activity in any way.
5. Play-dough Themes
Another excellent play-dough activity is creating themes with them. It could be anything from a spring theme to an Easter or Christmas theme. This not only opens up their range of imagination but it also adds a splash of colour to the activity. Homemade play-dough for toddlers is ideal for creating various themed concepts as you can add your own flavour to it.
You can learn how to make play-dough for toddlers at home with ingredients that you have on hand. Leave them to explore the texture of the play-dough and come up with their own handiwork, so that the entire experience is an enjoyable one. Read more

Choosing Fabrics To Wear Post Pregnancy
Fashion does not need to take a back seat, post pregnancy. In fact, with the careful selection of fabrics, a new mom can mix comfort and style together to ensure that post-pregnancy clothing is not drab!
As a new mom, you need not consider fashion to be subjacent. In fact, if you choose fabrics that flatter your body type, you are sure to make a mark while maintaining a certain degree of subtle appeal. However, choosing the right fabric does not mean that you would need to clear out all your pre-pregnancy clothes to make space for post-pregnancy wear. If you shop smart, you could actually extend your wardrobe from when you are pregnant to when your bundle of joy is around two years old. Post-pregnancy clothing does not have to be unflattering; it can be appealing and quite sexy too.
Top Fabrics That New Moms Should Wear
1. Drape Fabric
Post-maternity wear can be tricky for new moms. While moms would want to be comfortable, choosing sweatpants should be avoided at all costs. Opting for dresses and tops that drape over the stomach area is a smart choice. Drape fabrics would cascade effortlessly over the body. Tunics, tops and empire-waist dresses draped over the body should top your list of fashion choices for post-pregnancy wear.
2. Shapewear Surprise
Choosing shapewear will be worth your while. It is perfect for new moms because it helps hold the baby weight in, giving your hips and stomach a smoother and smaller look. However, ensure that there is not much compression, as things could then get uncomfortable.
3. Stretched and Fabulous
Post-pregnancy clothing for women could consist of stretch fabrics that are comfortable and flatter your new body. Fabrics that stretch and offer comfort usually contain a high content of lycra. However, one can also opt for non-stretch fabrics like cotton voiles, rayons as well as poly crepes. Jersey fabric is also a good option as it allows added flexibility. When it comes to choosing lingerie, one should opt for cotton or cotton-lined inner-wear. As compared to other fabric types, the former is lighter and breathable. Yoga pants made of stretch materials are a perfect choice to make! It would be great if you find a pair that comes with a fold-over waistband, which gives new moms the option of folding it under the belly. Kiss those post-pregnancy fashion blues away with a pair of stretch yoga pants that you could probably live in all day.
4. Soft Jersey Fabric
Ladies, a soft jersey is a clever choice of fabric for your post-maternity wear, as it drapes easily over the body. A long or short maxi dress in this forgiving fabric can take any new mom through all stages of motherhood.
Overall, it is important for new moms to choose fabrics that can balance both style statement and comfort, making the whole experience worthwhile. Read more

How to carry with unsolicited advice or comments coming from others
Parenting is extremely difficult especially if there's no help around. Mothers are overworked and overloaded all the time. From feeding to bathing them and from changing their diapers to making them sleep. It's really a tough journey. And needless to mention all those bay blues which make a mom overstressed. When all this is running, when the mom is running day and night (not literally), and she gets to hear unsolicited advice or taunts or comments from someone, it really gets on the nerve, doesn't it?
New moms out there, how many times someone came to you just to tell you that you look fat? or What are you doing to lose that belly fat? I've heard it gazillion times in my postpartum period and you won't be surprised to know that majority of them were women.
Losing weight is the last thing on my mind because there is so much more my body is coping with.
I never felt terrible about my body then, or now, the first few months after birth. I indulged in everything I denied myself during pre-pregnancy and pregnancy, and honestly, I felt perfect about it. I craved different kinds of food, and I relished it without guilt. I needed to pamper my tongue after all the diets in pregnancy.
What I don’t understand is why society bothers so much about a mother's body during postpartum that every goal they ask her to set is to get back to her pre-pregnancy weight asap. Honestly, a hundred things are running in a new mom's mind, and I bet weight loss was the last on my list or months and I never even bothered about it.
Finally, now that I feel I can handle the baby better and I am confident about N number of things and that my cravings are satisfied, now I'm getting back to mindful eating. But again, why does my body fat bother these women? Have you experienced the same? Please share your responses to such comments amidst all the baby blues. Read more

A. Hello there ma’am please do not worry about it too much. But it is really very difficult to say anything without proper examination. It is advisable to get yourself evaluated by a doctor and follow doctors advise properly. You can also book online doctor’s appointment on FirstCry where the doctor can help you and guide you properly.
Thanks and take care

A. Nasal blockage is very common, specially in small children because of the narrow nasal cavity. Any kind of saline drops like nasal clear will be helpful in dissolving the stuffy secretions, which can be taken out by vnasal aspirator gently also steam inhalation will be helpful also, try to avoid keeping the child directly under the fan.
