23 Weeks Pregnant with Twins or Multiples
Congratulate yourself for successfully carrying your twins for 23 weeks in the womb in the safest way possible. You are a week or so away from completing what is usually termed as the honeymoon stage of the pregnancy. And don't worry because things will get better. This particular week is quite crucial; it is during this week, that the mother and her babies gain a majority of the weight. You will soon move to the final trimester of the pregnancy.
The Growth of the Babies at 23 Weeks
While the previous weeks might have been filled with numerous changes and interesting developments with regards to the growth of your triplets or twins, this week is usually calm on that front. The focus primarily stays on keeping their growth unabated and letting things progress at their natural pace.
The skin covering your babies around this time is still a bit shrunk and wrinkled since the fat deposits on their baby are yet to reach a quantity that can stretch the skin to a proper limit. That translucent red skin could make the babies look weird, but this will pass in the coming months.
If you tried listening to the heartbeat of your little ones but had to wait for the ultrasound scans for that to happen, then you are in for a treat. Usually, around the 23rd week, the hearts of your twins or triplets will be stronger and will pump blood even more intensely. This can make it possible for you to hear the heartbeats by merely using a stethoscope. Your doctor can guide you for the same.
By this time, your twins or triplets will grow quite rapidly. One of the last organs that develop are the lungs. However, babies do tend to make attempts at breathing as they practice it inside, making similar movements that they would mimic once they are out in the real world. With brain development reaching a significant milestone and eyes growing in strength, you might occasionally notice your babies dreaming actively inside. This also manifests in rapid eye movement under their eyelid and random body movements.
What Is the Size of the Babies?
Your babies will now mature from the size of a coconut to a wonderful mango. The growth would seem substantial when compared to how they were in the previous week. The length of the babies, when measured appropriately, would usually be somewhere around 28 centimetres, with a weight of 500 grams or so. The size of twins or triplets would increase massively in the next couple of weeks.
Common Bodily Changes
Most women usually have a calm pregnancy in the 23rd week. Any changes that occur in the body are all a remnant of the previous weeks, carrying forward or growing in intensity.
Just the way your tummy keeps on increasing at its pace, your breasts would grow in size too. This will continue for a week or two and then they would reach their full size. This enlargement is not simply a physical aspect. There are different developments happening within them as well. The mammary glands begin to activate gradually to provide milk to the babies post delivery. Some women might begin to secrete a yellowish colour leakage from their breasts, which is pretty thick. This is the very first milk that your breasts produce; it is termed as colostrum. Usually, it occurs early after birth so that the baby can have it right away. However, if it happens earlier, it is not a problem. The only discomfort you would experience is that your bra will be soaked.
With your pregnancy rushing, the hormones lose control all over again and tend to fluctuate randomly. As a result, you may feel low and sad for nothing in particular and then suddenly you may be happy and deliriously cheerful for the rest of the day. Every day or week might seem unique in that aspect, and it is best to keep track of what you feel by journaling your thoughts.
Preeclampsia is a serious medical condition and can affect pregnant women at any time. One of the major signs of it is swelling that occurs rapidly and is excessively large and persists for long. In other cases, swelling normally goes away in some time. This is termed as oedema and strongly affects the legs. One of the major cause of this is reduced blood circulation since all the focus is on the uterus receiving the bulk of the supply. This kind of swelling can be handled by keeping your legs elevated and bringing down the amount of sodium you consume as part of your diet.
Symptoms of Twin Pregnancy at 23 Weeks
The signs of a twin pregnancy at 23 weeks are quite evident. You will notice that some of the previous symptoms will appear again around this time.
When pregnant with twins or multiples at 23 weeks, a rehearsal of labour starts at random times. You may experience false contractions that resemble labour. But there is no need to fret since these are not as intense as the actual labour contractions, but the usual Braxton Hicks ones. Most of the times, their frequency tends to increase around the 23rd week of pregnancy, as many muscles of the body participate in this, checking if they are good to go when the time comes.
As if swelling of the arms and feet was not enough, your back will begin to hurt as well. And when pregnant with twins or triplets, there will be more pressure on your back. You may have back pain throughout the week, particularly in the lower region. Your uterus will expand too, shifting the internal organs and even pressing down on any nerves that are located in and around. Furthermore, the increasing weight also makes it necessary for the vertebrae to bear the brunt of the load, putting that entire region under a stressful setting. Staying aware of it and keeping away from any activity that could increase the pressure further is your best bet to handle the situation effectively.
Those earlier instances where you would spot blood in your mouth after brushing your teeth would reappear this week. With a rampant growth inside your uterus, the blood circulation will increase, making the gums highly sensitive. Most of the bleeding usually occurs when the gums are irritated, which is why you might spit out a little blood when you brush. However, if the dental ache of any sort accompanies the bleeding, it might lead to tooth decay or gingivitis too.
Twin Pregnancy - Belly at 23 Weeks
Your belly at 23 weeks pregnant will start showing the characteristics of a twin pregnancy belly. This means that in comparison to a singleton pregnancy at 23 weeks, your belly would measure a few weeks ahead of that time. But every pregnancy is different and the belly size can be influenced by genes, by your height and weight as well. So there is no standard measure that you need to watch out for.
Twin Pregnancy at 23 Weeks - Ultrasound
Most scans around this stage are focused on ensuring that the fat deposits on the body and the weight gain are progressing as expected. Furthermore, you might notice the nipples making their initial appearance this week. Chances of seeing your babies respond to your voice or tummy rubs are high as well.
What to Eat
Diversity is the key in this week, making sure that the diet you intake has nearly every nutritional element you can think of, in copious quantities. Iron, calcium, and numerous vitamins stay at the topmost priority as usual. Drinking water and other fluids should also be a thing to focus on.
Pregnancy Care Tips
Things might start getting a little discomforting around this week, but there’s nothing you cannot handle with a few simple tips.
Do's
Make use of nasal strips or humidifiers in your room to handle any instances of a stuffy nose.
Begin investing in financing options for your children to get an early start for their future.
Dont's
Avoid working for long hours without a break since it can make the swelling worse.
Don’t refrain from grabbing some quick naps in the afternoon if you struggle to sleep calmly at night.
What You Need to Shop For
You might already have most items in your possession by now, so you can hop out for a quick shopping of:
Soft blankets or cuddly swaddles for the babies
A journal to put down numerous thoughts about your pregnancy
As a mother, when you are 23 weeks pregnant with twins, movement of any kind inside your tummy could instantly make you feel connected with your babies. Cherish moments like these and create memories that you can recall later once your babies grow up.

Olive Oil for Baby Hair - Benefits and Usage
You might feel like all babies tend to have similar hair when they are born, but a closer look might reveal they all have different hair texture, length, and volume. This is where parents begin to question whether olive oil is good for babies hair in improving its health. Well, not only is it good but also it is highly recommended to use for treating certain hair conditions and keeping your little one’s scalp healthy and clean. Usage of olive oil has a documented effect on accelerating hair growth and gifting your little one with a mane that he can be proud of.
Benefits of Using Olive Oil for Infant’s Hair
Many people recommended olive oil for baby hair growth and backed it up with good reasons. The benefits of olive oil range from improving the health of the hair to protecting from potential infections.
1. Improving the Manageability of Hair
Some babies tend to have dry hair and misses the essential nourishment. It gets entangled easily. Using some warm olive oil can resolve the issue within no time.
2. Improved Hair Texture
Olive oil contains a lot of elements, majorly antioxidants as well as vitamin A and vitamin E. All of these work together in maintaining a substantial amount of keratin in the baby’s hair. This works in trapping the moisture within, allowing the hair to be healthier and shinier. The formation of new hair also stimulates as a result of it.
3. Treats Eczema of the Scalp
At times, your baby might have specific patches on the scalp that are a bit scaly, flaky and cause a lot of itching and redness. These can even result in conditions such as psoriasis or result in the formation of fungi. Olive oil helps in retaining the skin’s moisture and prevents any such conditions from occurring in the first place.
4. Removes Dandruff
Another side effect of a dry scalp is the presence of dandruff. All it takes is little olive oil with lemon juice, combined with a gentle scalp massage, to get rid of dandruff within no time. The acidic action of lemon removes dandruff, while the olive oil moisturises the skin.
5. Improved Hair Growth
A head massage with olive oil is highly recommended for babies to improve the thickness of their tuft. Vitamin E is highly essential in reducing hair fall and removing the frizz present in the hair.
6. Presence Of Fatty Acids
Olive oil helps in protecting the damaged layer of the hair, thanks to the presence of fatty acids in it. These not only improve the scalp but end up making the hair smoother, too.
7. Presence Of Antioxidants
Apart from the vitamins, antioxidants are present in substantial quantities in olive oil. These are essential to keep the scalp healthy and protected from any external factors such as weather and pollution.
8. Enhanced Moisturizing Ability
The presence of vitamin E is what makes olive oil such a great moisturiser. This is also what allows it to combat dry scalp.
9. Better Hair Strength
For baby hair that seems to have lost its sheen, olive oil returns the moisture to it and softens the texture, making it shine all over again.
10. Prevention Of Hair Grease
Cleansing of the scalp is highly needed to prevent the formation of sebum that restricts the growth of new hair. The presence of polyphenols in olive oil does the trick and remove any dry hair along with it.
11. Protection From Infection
Babies tend to suffer a lot from problems such as head lice or even fungal infections. Olive oil contains strong anti-bacterial properties that help in combating such infections effectively.
12. Relief From Itchy Scalp
The presence of dry hair and scales on the scalp can make your baby suffering from an itchy head. To prevent it from getting inflamed, massage his head with olive oil bringing almost immediate relief.
How To Apply Olive Oil On Your Baby’s Hair?
When applying olive oil to your little one’s hair, the procedure is quite simple, but you need to take only a few precautions.
Start by applying little olive oil directly to the scalp of your baby.
Massage it with a soft brush or cloth and let it soak for 8-10 minutes.
Once done, use shampoo and water to rinse the scalp properly and wash it off. Repeat to clean it thoroughly.
When wondering what kind of olive oil is best for baby hair, opt for alternatives that have the least preservatives and are as natural and organic as possible. This reduces the chances of your baby suffering from an allergic reaction from it, and receives the most benefits out of it.

Continuing the Breastfeeding journey even after weaning -The struggle is real !!
Every mother has her own beautiful journey of breastfeeding, we all remember that first latch soon after birth, that failed attempt from fresh new born baby and the tear of joy in every mother’s eye is incredible, this feeling can not be described in words ever!
As per the standard guidelines from UNICEF and advice from paediatricians, all mothers try their level best to continue exclusive breastfeeding till 6 months.
There are certain difficult situations where you have to opt for Formula milk, but that is all ok! I don’t think one should feel any mom guilt for the same.
But Dear All new mothers yes! breastfeeding and it’s innumerable benefits should be taken into consideration when you are fine with all physical and mental states, then I must say one should continue breastfeeding journey even after started weaning.
After starting weaning it is not that easy dear mothers, what we think is once baby will start weaning, breastfeeding will be easier and more comfortable ! No! No! No! HERE THE STRUGGLE IS REAL!!
In fact, feeding demands gets numerous times, especially when they are teething, during growth spurts, when they develop separation anxiety and the list goes on. And we as a mother always have the hope during day that we might get good sleep tonight!! Though it has been months seems like decade we had a good night sleep, we may feel like if someone had come and offer a milk bottle by saying that here it is , will fix the problem and we would have taken it, but the thing that kept us sticking to exclusive breastfeed is our kid is thriving on our breastmilk, and it is like Magic. Indeed!!
What are the benefits of continuing with breastfeeding even after weaning?
Up to 1year of age animal milk is not advisable at all because, milk protein and fats are difficult to get digest for infant, hence American Academy of Paediatrics also does not recommend animal milk until at least 1year of age.
Continuing with breastfeeding along with weaning will help the child to get all the antibodies present in breastmilk, and that will help to improve the immunity of kid and will help to fight against infection, and provide protection against diarrhoea, and other Gastrointestinal infections, As there are not at all chances of any contamination and infection in breastmilk.
It helps to get the bonds between mom and child stronger because breastfeeding will increase the flow of oxytocin and Oxytocin is “ THE HORMONE OF LOVE”!!
What will help mothers to get this real struggle easy??
After being a mother suddenly all our priority get changed and we are least bothered about our own health, and here is the most important part what we are lacking behind, yes if you have decided that you will not give up on breastfeeding then Yes ! make sure of your diet and lifestyle or else improper diet and random lifestyle will affect your milk supply and at the end of all consequences you will definitely g, give up and start with either Formula or animal milk.
Improve your hydration, taking adequate amount of liquid will help to maintain consistent milk flow. Regular exercise will help to reduce stress level, and healthy mind will always ys help you to stay positive on your journey.
Last but not the least one!! Help husband – Yes true, you have to involve your husband in this beautiful journey to make it worth!! He can support you mentally, assure you positively about his support definitely works!!

Here's How I Did Not Give Up On Breastfeeding
Mother's milk is rightly called the miracle drink and its numerous benefits are undeniable. A powerhouse of nutrition, antibodies, immunity booster and much more! The journey of every mom is beautiful yet different and here's mine.
When my daughter was as merely a 2.2 kg underwight baby, I had pledged to myself to exclusively breastfeed her for the first six months. But the day I realised that my milk supply was falling low, I felt my heart racing and anxiety levels going up. My daughter hadn't even turned 3 months. Was this the end of my breastfeeding journey? "No, not so soon." I then decided to change my diet and before my diet, my mind. Yes, a change in mindset. Every time my baby sucked her hands, I told myself that it doesn't always mean that she's hungry. She may be uncomfortable with the diaper or sleepy. Many a times, one hears other family members saying that the child is not getting enough milk and it's high time to start bottlefeed. All this leads to self - doubt and adds up to anxiety in the new mother. Don't let this pull you back! Instead, think positive and take pride in the fact that you have been able to create and nurture life! And that's what I did!
Next, I changed my diet. Consciously added green veggies to my daily diet ( literally daily) and stopped giving in to the habit of ordering food from outside and ate home cooked healthy meals only. I made it a practice to soak nuts daily and eat 2 large bowls of seasonal fruits everyday. Superfoods like garlic, cumin and fennel seeds became my best friends! I added extra garlic to my food, added roasted cumin powder in all soups and veggies and started drinking fennel tea thrice daily. These dietary changes helped boost my milk supply and I saw positive results in just 2 to 4 days.
My daughter moved from bottom of the chart to almost on the top in 4 months as per the weight recorded by my paediatrician. She is almost 5 months old now and we are sailing smooth. And the journey continues..

Are we creating negative impact on our Children, Unintentionally ?
Parenting is changed a lot from the time we were kids to the time
we have kids.Healthy life style, good
behaviour, manners, Presentation all these are the keys now a days to judge parents.
Because of the busy schedule and life, we are indirectly creating a negative
impact on our children Saying No to all questions asked, No Oreo, No Chocolates
it will ruin your teeth. No to TV it will impact your vision, No to Games, is
making them think that answer for every question asked is NO”. Talking about myself I never thought my Daughter who is just 2
year 9 months will start saying NO to every single thing. Asking her anything
like Let’s go out or Have your meal anything her reply
is NO, NO, NO. Anything which can make them happy or which is good
for them the answer will be NO.I am the one who is responsible what she is learning as I am only
the person who was nagging her. I thought it’s not nagging but its caring maybe
she took it in different way. What I concluded with this
situation is I could have used more affirmative sentence instead of saying
direct no to her. Agreeing to her demands is also necessary but in a way that
it make her feel positive. Telling her what I want her do to rather what I don’t
want her to do is the best solution. Asking her what she is willing to do. Do
you want to go out now or later? Definitely she will try to say something which
is reasonable instead of NO. Alternatives of No is now part of my life as well.Unintentionally, I was creating
some negativity around her but now It’s time to learn and make changes in my
