13 Best Sex Positions To Get Pregnant Faster
If you're trying to conceive, you want to do all you can to expedite the process. Some people believe that a couple can get pregnant sooner if they try specific sex positions. We'll tell you some sex positions you can try to conceive a baby.
Do Sex Positions Play a Role in Getting Pregnant?
Although there is no scientific evidence to prove that some sexual positions are effective than others for getting pregnant, there are many age-old beliefs that say this.
The male sperm should be ejaculated and deposited as close to the female cervix as possible. Therefore, a couple who wants to conceive should avoid positions that don’t allow exposure of the cervix to the male sperm.
Is It Essential To Have An Orgasm to Conceive?
An orgasm is a feeling of intense pleasure for both partners. Some describe it as a tingling sensation, while others describe it as an explosive feeling. In men, orgasm leads to the ejaculation of sperm whereas, in women, it involves lubricated vaginal walls and a swollen clitoris along with the release of built-up tension.
Many women wonder whether an orgasm makes it easier for them to get pregnant. The answer is - no. Orgasm helps a woman feel relaxed and enjoy sex, though gentle contractions in the uterus may help the sperm move towards the fallopian tubes. But these contractions happen even without an orgasm taking place. Therefore, it isn't a must to have an orgasm to conceive.
Best Sex Positions for Pregnancy
There have been debates over the existence of sex positions for pregnancy. But as they haven't been proven scientifically, all you can do is hypothesise and try different positions for getting pregnant. Here are some sex positions you may like:
1. Missionary Position
The missionary position is one of the most popular and common sex positions for getting pregnant. It can be said that most babies in the world are born because of this sex position. That's because the sperm is deposited closer to the cervix in the upper vagina, facilitating easy access to the uterine and cervical canal. The woman lies on her back while the man is on top.
2. Glowing Triangle Position
This sex position is similar to the missionary position but is slightly different. Although the woman lies on her back with the man on top, the man is on all fours. The woman's pelvis is raised, and her legs are wrapped around her partner. The glowing triangle position allows deeper penetration and increases the chances of conception.
3. Doggy Style
The doggy position increases the chances of pregnancy as it involves deep penetration. It requires both partners to be on their fours. The man penetrates the woman from behind. This position opens up the cervix and makes it easy for the sperm to fertilise the egg.
4. Magic Mountain Position
[caption id="attachment_258140" align="aligncenter" width="564"] Source: Pinterest[/caption]
The magic mountain position is a variant of doggy style. In this, the man bends over the woman such that the woman’s back is against his chest. For better balance and support, the woman can use cushions or pillows under her upper body. The magic mountain position allows faster and deeper movement of sperm and is effective for achieving an orgasm.
5. Anvil Position
The anvil position is a variant of the classic missionary pose. In this position, the woman has to raise her legs above her head. It offers good chances of conceiving because of deep penetration. The raised legs help in stimulating the woman’s G-spot, as well.
6. Plough Position
The plough position not only gives you a better chance of conceiving but also adds zing to your sex life. The woman is positioned like a wheel burrow with her legs in the air. Gravity does its trick and pulls the sperm deeper into the cervix.
7. Spooning Position
[caption id="attachment_257923" align="aligncenter" width="563"] Source: Pinterest[/caption]
This is a romantic and effective position, in which the woman lies to her side and the man spoons her from behind. Spooning allows the woman’s cervix to be angled at 90 degrees and provides better accessibility to the sperm.
8. Butterfly Position
Infuse some excitement and adventure between the sheets by making love in this position. In the butterfly position, the woman lies on a table and her partner raises her hips while penetrating her. It's one of the best and most effective positions as it allows the sperm to stay in the woman’s vagina for longer.
9. Union of the Wolf
In this sex position, the woman stands with her back to her partner. He penetrates her from behind while holding her waist. The woman leans forward so that the sperm have better access to her cervix.
10. Sphinx Position
This sphinx sex position requires the woman to lie on her tummy with one leg bent to the side and the other straight. The man straddles her from behind with his weight on his forearms. This is an excellent position for conception as it allows deep penetration.
11. Peg Position
In this position, the woman is on top while the man lies on his back. The peg position not only helps the woman orgasm but also conceive. It's suitable for women who have heavier male partners.
12. Reverse Cowgirl Position
The reverse cowgirl is another position that has the woman on top. This is excellent for couples who want to have a baby. It involves the man lying on his back with the woman sitting on top of him, facing his feet. She can control the depth of penetration.
13. Splitting Bamboo Position
The splitting bamboo position is an extremely adventurous pose that not only provides great sexual satisfaction but also improves the chances of conception. This famous Kamasutra pose requires the woman to raise one of her legs and place it against her partner’s shoulder. The man straddles the woman.
Tips
Apart from the above sexual positions, these tips will help you conceive faster.
Consuming alcohol affects ovulation, the menstrual cycle and hormones, making conceiving difficult.
Consuming too much of tea or coffee affects the reproductive health and fiddles with conception.
Refrain from smoking. Smoking interferes with the quality of the eggs and sperm and increases the chances of genetically defective embryos.
Keep your body and mind healthy to improve your chances.
Being either underweight or overweight on the BMI scale can affect your fertility.
Can Lying Down After Sex Boost Your Chances of Conceiving?
As gravity affects lovemaking, lying down after sex will ensure the semen stays in and around your cervix. If you’ve been trying to conceive to no avail, try lying down for ten minutes after intercourse with your hips raised to encourage the sperm to travel to the egg. There’s no guarantee that doing this will make you pregnant, but trying doesn't hurt. However, don’t try this if your doctor has advised a visit to the restroom immediately after lovemaking.
What Is the Right Time to Conceive?
To become pregnant, you need to have sex at the right time. The fertility period lasts for six days in a month. These six days include the ovulation day and the five days leading up to it. The egg released on the ovulation day only survives for 24 hours, but the sperm can stay as long as 7 days in your vagina. Therefore, the sperm has a six-day window to wait for the egg and fertilise it.
Irrespective of the length of your menstrual cycle, ovulation usually happens 14 days before your next menstrual cycle. You're likely to get pregnant if you have sexual intercourse a day or two before ovulation. As it’s not easy to predict the ovulation date, it is a good idea to enjoy sex every two or three days.
When Should You Seek Medical Help?
If you’ve been making love with the above sex positions and at the right time, you should soon hear good news. How long you need to wait depends on your age. You should go to a doctor if:
You’re below 35 and have been trying to get pregnant for 1 year.
You’re above 35 and have been trying to get pregnant for 6 months.
If you notice any of these symptoms, it’s best to seek medical help immediately.
Irregular or missed periods
Pelvic inflammatory disease
Endometriosis
History of miscarriages
Hernia surgery or issue with the testicles (in male partners)
Getting pregnant is one of the biggest joys every couple looks forward to. Although there’s no guarantee, you can try different sex positions to increase your chances of conception. We recommend getting a complete health check-up before starting a family.

5 Ways You Can Guarantee Your Child Will Be a Quick Learner
In collaboration with Nestlé Start Healthy Stay Healthy.
In a world where exams, tests, deadlines are the norm, it only seems fair that a lot of parents want their kids to be quick learners. However, with such a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, the school-going phase can be stressful for both the parent and the child. Even with the best intentions, school can then become more about keeping up rather than excelling.
But, what if we told you that raising a quick learner didn’t have to be stressful? What if there were ways in which you could gradually and almost naturally hone the ability to grasp information quickly in your child?
Before we look at how you can help your child become a quick learner, let’s understand how children learn during their early years.
How Children Learn
Babies are born ready to learn, and their brains keep developing through use over time. So what your child really needs from day 1 is a stimulating environment and the right nutrition with many different ways to learn and play. He also requires plenty of chances to put into practice what he’s learning.
Babies and young kids learn best when they have engaging, warm, and responsive relationships with their primary caregivers. So you as a parent have a vital role to play in helping your little one learn through these early formative years. Remember, you are your child’s first teacher, and your child will keep learning from you at every opportunity as he gets older.
Most of the time spent interacting and playing with you and other people enables your child to learn life skills – like thinking, communicating, problem-solving, and interacting with other people.
How to Make Your Child a Quick Learner
1. Make it fun.
If you think your child might have trouble learning, introducing them to games and activities on the subject might be a good way to stimulate their minds and also help them develop an interest in the subject. You might need to observe your child’s learning habits for a while to understand when to step in.
Some children might be afraid to ask for help. If you think your child is holding back, gently teach him that asking for help doesn't make him unintelligent. Moreover, it's important to ask for help when he is stuck so that he can overcome the problem at hand and move forward. The more your child understands this concept, the better he will become with getting clarity on a task he is unsure of in the future, making him more efficient.
2. Take special care of your child’s nutrition.
Your child’s nutritional status can directly affect his mental capacity. Good nutrition improves cognition and mental concentration, perception, intuition, and reasoning. Having a balanced diet also helps your child stay prepared and ready to learn. Ensure that your child is getting age-appropriate nutrition from a young age, especially in the first few years of his life, as that’s when a major chunk of brain development takes place.
Another aspect to consider is brainpower fuelled by the right nutrition.
Think about this - you know that energy slump on your binge-eating days? Eating food that’s processed or does not contain adequate nutrients can cause a loss of energy or focus. The problem surfaces when these treat foods aren’t the occasional treat but more of an everyday habit. This is when the learning consequences can get seriously affected.
Research says that a diet high in saturated fats can seriously impair memory and learning. The link between brainpower and diet is the production of glucose and sugar. A diet higher in glucose can cause major energy slumps, directly impacting your child’s energy levels and ability to retain information.
3. Remain focused.
It's a known fact that better focus leads to more structured learning. Keep your child’s learning environment a distraction-free zone. Developing focus on tasks at a young age is a skill that sets the tone for your child’s future.
4. Exercise regularly.
Exercise keeps one not only physically but mentally active, as many research studies have shown. In a study published in The Journal of School Health in 2015, the authors noted that getting kids to exercise enhanced their learning outcomes.
By encouraging your child to take part in regular physical exercise, you can help him become a more active and quick learner.
5. Take breaks.
Even for us adults, it's not easy to work on something for hours on end, nor is it recommended. So even though it might seem unreasonable to you, taking breaks can help your little one learn faster. When you notice that your child is having trouble focusing after a while, teach him that it is okay to take short breaks. A break can help his mind relax and regroup to finish the task at hand. A tired mind is rarely productive.
By putting these above tips into practice, your child can become a quicker and better learner. But, if he hits a roadblock or is unable to understand a certain subject matter, ensure you yourself understand what the issue is and bring in expert help if needed. Whatever you do, do not force him to learn faster but instead encourage him to help him fall in love with learning.
In case of any questions or clarifications regarding your baby’s nutrition or development, do get in touch with your paediatrician.

When to Schedule Your Child's First Dental Visit
You love your baby's smile, don't you? Every time he smiles at you and shows his tiny teeth, you are overjoyed. But if you don't want any harm to come to him and his cute teeth, you need to ensure that his gums and teeth remain healthy! For that, you will have to probably build a proper oral care routine for him early on which will last a lifetime. So, make it a point to schedule an appointment at a paediatric dentist for your baby as soon as you see a tooth sprout, or when he turns one.
When Should a Baby Have His First Dental Visit?
As a new parent, you are less likely to be concerned about your baby’s dental health during his early years of life, but it is something you should not ignore. It is highly important for you to know the age when your baby will be ready for his first dental visit. As per the guidelines from the American Academy of Paediatrics (AAP) and the American Academy of Paediatric Dentistry (AAPD), the recommended age for the first dental visit of a baby is within the 6 months after his first tooth sprouts or when he turns one year old.
What Happens at a Child’s First Dental Visit?
You don’t need to worry about your little one's first visit to a dentist because the majority of the first visits to the pediatric dentist are short, straightforward, and quick. The dentist shall ask one of the parents to sit on the dental chair holding the baby while he examines him. In the first visit, the dentist will look for the following things.
He will count your baby’s teeth.
He will examine the existing teeth for any decay.
He will check how your child bites.
He will look for any potential problems in gums, jaws, or the oral tissues.
He may even cleanse your baby’s teeth if required.
He will provide you with information on feeding practices, baby bottle tooth decay, teething, pacifier or finger-sucking habits and mouth cleaning.
He will also tell you about oral hygiene habits for your child and may suggest when to schedule the next appointment.
What to Do If Your Baby's Tooth Breaks or Cracks?
If your baby happens to crack or break his tooth, a visit to the dentist is recommended. Meanwhile, you should clean his mouth with warm water and pat it dry with a clean cloth. You can also apply a cold compress on your little one's face at the sore spot. When you meet the dentist, he will then check for any remnants or sharp edges of a tooth. He will also check for any swollen gums or possible cracks in the teeth which may cause problems like fractures affecting nerves or teeth infection.
When Should a Baby Get His First Dental X-Ray?
Usually, a dental x-ray for babies is not recommended because their teeth fall out with time. However, most children's first dental x-ray is taken when they are 5 or 6 years of age. It is during this period when a child's adult teeth start appearing. Hence, an x-ray taken at this time helps a dentist examine if the root of a jammed baby tooth is affecting the growth of an adult tooth or not. But for some babies who have dental problems such as tooth decay or cleft lip/palate and similar, shall require taking their dental x-rays much earlier than others.
How to Make a Baby Ready for His First Dental Visit
It is common that babies do not welcome strangers to carry them or touch them. Parents often face a challenge when taking their child to a doctor. It is best to schedule an appointment in the morning hours when your child is alert and fresh. To help ease your baby’s anxiety and to make him aware of the possible activities at a dentist’s office, you can do the following:
Make your baby look at picture books with dentists in them.
Ask your child to open his mouth. Once he does, pretend to count and examine his teeth. Practise this with your little one often, and he will be ready for his dental visit.
Pretend to be a dentist. Hold a toothbrush and a stuffed animal toy and show your dentistry skills to him.
When going to a dentist, do carry some distractions for him like colour pencils or comfort toys.
Give him lots of reassuring hugs.
Tips for First Dental Visit for Your Child
You need to be proactive about your child’s oral health today so that you can keep his smile healthy for life. Make your child familiar about the dentist, start talking to him positively about what shall happen at the dentist’s clinic. To have a smooth and hassle-free visit, consider the following tips.
Prepare a list of concerned questions to ask the dentist.
Carry a list of your child’s current medications if any.
Be prepared to fill out forms regarding health history.
Ask for the forms prior to your visit if you may fill them up at home instead.
Pick a time for the appointment when your baby is usually at ease and cooperative. Do not disturb him at his nap time.
Ensure that your child has had a light meal before the appointment so that he is not hungry. You may carry some snacks for after the visit.
Difference Between a Paediatric Dentist and a Regular Dentist
A child’s first visit to the dentist should be a memorable one because children often tend to remember their experiences with places and individuals. In general terms, either of the dentists can examine and respond to the oral health care your child needs. However, the major difference is that the paediatric dentist holds 2 years of additional training beyond the regular dentistry course. The extra training provides him with the expertise in child’s behaviour, management and treatment of a child’s developing teeth, his physical growth & development and any specific needs in the child’s dentistry. Therefore, when you visit a paediatric dentist, you shall observe that your child is taken greater care of and put at ease in a better way when compared to the regular dentist.
Closely observe the oral health of your child from an early age. By keeping a positive working rapport with a paediatric dentist, you can ensure that your child receives proper dental care early on. It will eventually help your child to get accustomed to a healthy oral care routine.
