Mustard Pillow (Rai Ka Takiya) for Babies - Benefits and How to Make at Home
India is a land of traditions and superstitions when it comes to childbirth and bringing up kids, but despite all the myths, the nation has some ancient science-backed remedies and secrets which are science-backed and work. During birth, the baby's head is the softest part of the entire body and can be moulded very easily. Sometimes the stress of passing through the birth canals elongates or deforms the head's natural shape. This is where using a mustard pillow as a remedy comes in. We talk more about that below.
What is Mustard Seed Pillow?
A mustard pillow for a newborn is simply a pillow that is filled up with mustard seeds. The fabrics are soft and breathable and the cushioning effect is such that it's perfect for rounding the head of the babies.
When and Why to Use Mustard Seed Pillow for Babies?
You should use a mustard pillow for your child if you want their head shape to turn out round. The bones in their body (including the skull) are soft and can be moulded within 18 months from the time of birth, giving you plenty of time to take advantage of this natural solution. However, you'll lose hope if two of the baby's fontanelles close up so you have to start using this early for best results.
How to Make Mustard Baby Pillow at Home?
Making a rai pillow for a newborn baby is easy. Here's how you make one at home.
Rinse the mustard seeds in water and sundry them completely until no moisture remains
Get a meter of muslin cloth, wash it in hot water, and dry it thoroughly. Drying the cloth and the seeds are very important since any moisture left may lead to the growth of fungi or moulds in the pillow.
Make a 10x15 inch pillow out of that and stitch up 3 out of the four sides, keeping one as the opening for the filling
Fill up 3/4 of the pillow with mustard seeds and leave a 1/4 gap. Too many seeds make the pillow hard while too little make it way too soft so you're ideally striking a balance.
Seal up the fourth side to finish the pillow and restitch all the sides three to four sides to make sure the mustard pillow lasts through repeated uses
Buy a bunch of extra muslin pillow covers so that you can wash them and keep for later use
Benefits of Using Rai-Filled Pillows for Babies
There are numerous benefits of using a mustard pillow for infants. Here's what you want to know about them below.
1. Provides Ergonomic Support to The Baby's Head
A mustard pillow effectively cushions the baby's head and provides ergonomic support. It's cushioning effect is perfect for tender skulls and it gently reshapes the head in three to four weeks without adding any stress or pressure
2. It Adapts to The Baby's Movement
Mustard pillows don't lose their shape easily. In fact, whenever your baby turns their head around, it'll conform to their movements, be it left and right. This helps to make sure their head shape stays uniform and doesn't tilt or get too exaggerated on either side.
3. Warms The Head Naturally
Mustard seeds have certain vitamins, minerals, and properties which warm up a baby's head naturally. If your baby is suffering from the common cold or cough, you'll find that a mustard pillow will provide them with the much-needed relief.
4. Prevents Placing Pressure on One Side
Another benefit of using mustard pillows is that it doesn't allow your baby to put pressure on their head when they sleep on their desired side. Sometimes babies have a tendency to tilt or fix their heads in a certain position, which further adds pressure to the neck and skull, thus deforming it. But this pillow prevents that by adapting to those positions and taking the pressure off. It's just impossible to stress the bones with a mustard pillow below their head.
5. Fixes Bumps and Dents
If your baby has any deformities in the skull post-childbirth like dents, bumps, depressions, or any weird shape to the skull, a mustard pillow will fix that. The best part is that these pillows lower the risk of a baby acquiring a flat head.
You should avoid massaging a baby's head forcefully when you're using these mustard pillows. This is because a baby's fontanels are too delicate and too much pressure may permanently harm the baby. Just make sure your baby uses the mustard pillow and keeps his head on that often. This way, you'll slowly but surely notice the results coming out with the least possible harm.

6 Spiritual Laws From Indian Culture To ATTRACT Money In The Household!
A healthy, wealthy and prosperous household is something everyone wishes for. However, while some are able to attain material wealth with ease, others struggle for years to get the same. Lucky for us, there are some simple solutions in our Indian culture that can help us out!
A major factor in making a happy and content family is prosperity. A prosperous household is every person's desire. After all, we all need money to fulfill our children's wishes, put them in a good school, get our loved ones the things they want...Money must not become the central focus of our lives but it definitely is important.
However, while some of us are able to get financial success quite easily, for others the path to wealth can be quite elusive. It's a vicious cycle, really. You may be working really hard but are still not able to reap results. It is in this situation that our Indian culture promises a solution. As per ancient Indian beliefs and traditions, there are certain laws that if followed promise financial prosperity. Many people have extreme faith in these rituals and do swear by them.
Even if you do not believe in adopting the spiritual route to prosperity, these ideas are worth checking out for their positivity, faith and hope - crucial tenets to achieving success in life!
1. Please The Goddess of Wealth
Lakshmi is considered to be the Indian goddess of wealth and beauty. She is personified as the bearer of fortune and prosperity. Therefore, many Indians pay their respects by doing 'Lakshmi puja' (worship of Lakshmi) on the festival of Diwali. Apart from this, various mantras are chanted to call the goddess to people's homes so she could shower her blessings.
One such practice is to take a clear glass vase with a narrow neck and paste an image of the goddess on it. Drop 4 shiny quarters every day and thank her for the abundance she has provided to your family.
2. Elephant is The Symbol of Prosperity
In ancient India, elephants were owned by rich emperors and since then they have become a symbol of status and wealth. It was believed that only the rich could afford these royal animals. Therefore, till date, many people believe that elephants are lucky charms. Most Indians show their devotion towards the symbol by wearing it in some for or the other, such as jewellery or as keep as decorative items in their houses.
3. Worship Lord Kuber
Lakshmi may be the goddess of prosperity; however, Kuber is known to be the Lord of wealth. Many believe that pleasing him is a significant part of carving a path to financial stability and prosperity.
4. Watch The Vastu
Indian scriptures pay special attention to the concept of vastu and therefore it is considered an essential part shaping a person's financial condition. It is said that vastu-perfect homes attract wealth. Following are a few vastu tips you could consider trying:
Keep a money plant in a green vase. This is known to attract wealth
A beautiful house entrance is known to be a bearer of prosperity. Make sure it is clean and beautifully kept
The North-West zone in your house is the most prosperous one and can help you get maximum financial support
5. Money Should Be Shared
Indians believe in the power of karma - what you give always comes back. Therefore it is advised that you help those who are in need of financial assistance and are less fortunate, and the universe will always reward you. When your intentions are generous, you get happiness - a precursor of wealth. Pay for the groceries of a family struggling to make ends meet, or simply spend time with children at an orphanage. There are millions of ways to spread happiness!
6. Always Respect The Power of Money
Finally, we must always remember that money is the result of hard work, sweat, blood and labour. When it is disrespected, you tend to disrespect yourself. If managed properly, money will only grow and reward you and your family members. But if it is disrespected, it can negatively impact your family's future. Learn to track all your expenses and keep your finances organized as this is a pre-requisite to ensuring it lasts you a lifetime. Read more

15 Joyful Water Games and Activities for Kids
There is no denying that children love the water. Even the little ones enjoy splashing about in the pool, and it is a great family activity and an opportunity to increase bonding. The water is also gentle on children’s bodies, which reduces the risk of getting hurt considerably.
Water Games for Children
Which kid doesn’t enjoy splashing about in water? With summer having set in, here are some fun water games:
1. Water Bottle Relay
With lots of running involved, it’s a great way to make sure your kids get some exercise.
What Your Will Need
3 large plastic water bottles
One large nail and a hammer
6 buckets
Water
How To Play
Gather up all the kids in the neighbourhood and divide them into three equal teams. Mark a starting line and an end line about 15 feet away from the start line. Make each team stand in a straight line behind the start line. Give each team a bucket full of water and one plastic bottle with 4-5 holes at the bottom (use the nail and hammer for this). Place one empty bucket for each team at the finish line. The objective of the game is to fill the empty bucket at the end line using only the water bottle while only carrying the bottle lifted above the head. A child fills the bottle, holds it above her head and runs to the finish line to her team’s assigned bucket and empties out the bottle. She then runs back and gives the bottle to the next child in her team who must do the same. The team to first empty out the bucket with water entirely and fill the empty bucket wins.
2. Water Gun Tag
This rather simple game instantly becomes a favourite of everyone who plays it.
What You Need
One water gun
How To Play
Water gun tag is a play on the regular game of tag. Whoever is ‘it’ gets a bucket full of water and a water gun. This kid tags other children (and even adults) with a squirt of water.
3. Water Balloon War
A water-based version of paintball.
What You Need
Lots of water balloons
Water
Food safe colouring – Blue and Red
Two unbreakable cups in two different colours. Bonus points if the colours are blue and red
How To Play
Get two buckets full of water. Mix one bucket with the blue food dye and the other with red dye. Gather all the children and divide them into two groups - Red and Blue. The red team will fill their balloons with the red water, while the blue team makes water balloons with blue water. Demarcate an area for each team which houses the team’s cup. The objective is for each team to retrieve the other team’s cup while using the water balloons as ammunition. Any kid hit and dyed with the other team’s colour must stop playing. The first team to retrieve the other team’s cup wins.
4. Duck Duck Splash
This is a watery take on the classic game of Duck Duck Goose.
What You Need
Water balloons
How To Play
As in the original, the children sit in a circle. Whoever is ‘It’ takes a water balloon and walks around the circle calling duck at each child. When they are behind the child they want to tag, they yell ‘Splash’ and throw the water balloon on their head or back. The person tagged must then chase the first kid and try to catch her before she goes and finds her place in the circle.
5. Bull’s Eye
Check the accuracy of your kids through this game.
What You Need
Chalk
Sponges – one for each child
Permanent marker
Bucket of water
How To Play
Mark circles on the ground with chalk and write points in the centre of each circle. Give each child a sponge with his or her name written in permanent marker. Each child soaks the sponge in the bucket and aims at a circle. Once it lands, they get the points and can occupy that circle. At the end of stipulated time, whoever has the highest points, wins.
6. Water Dodge Ball
Great for kids who love to spend time in the pool.
What You Need
Beach ball
Coloured rope
How To Play
Make two teams and tie a rope in the middle of the pool in order to separate the two teams. Each team takes turns throwing the beach ball at the other team’s members who must try to swim away from the ball. If the ball touches a team member, then they will be out. Whichever team has the last man standing, wins? To make this game more interesting, do not get the team members who are out to get out of the pool. Instead, they can push away the ball from active team members in order to keep the survival rate of their team high. However, they can only use their elbows to do so.
7. Water Money
This game is ideal for kids who already know how to swim and want more practice with their underwater swimming abilities.
What You Will Need
Lots of change in coins
How To Play
Get the children into a circle in the pool. Toss in coins in the centre of this circle. The children will dive towards the coins and retreat how many ever they can in a span of ten minutes. The kid with the most amount of money wins. The best part, the kids get to keep the money they have retrieved.
8. Water Balloon Cricket
Just like normal cricket but with water balloons as the ball instead of a regular ball.
What You Will Need
A sponge or plastic bat
Water balloons
How To Play
The batsman has to be careful while hitting the balloon ball or they will be soaked, and the fielders must be careful while catching and throwing the ball to team members. The only rule? The bowler must toss the balloon ball gently.
9. Water Volleyball
The water-version of volleyball
What You Will Need
A small beach ball
A net
How To Play
Set up the net in the middle of a swimming pool and divide the kids into two teams. The rest of the game follows the same rules as that of volleyball.
10. Water limbo
What You Will Need
Water Hose
How To play
This is played exactly how traditional limbo is except that here we do not use a limbo stick. Instead, use the hose to create a line of running water. You can increase or decrease the height to adjust for difficulty levels.
Water Activities for your Child
Maybe the above games aren't what your child wants. Here are a bunch of water activities that your child could try instead:
1. Water Treasure Hunt
This is one of the best water activities for pre-schoolers as they will be engrossed by how the melting ice reveals their favourite toys!
What You Will Need
Ice tray
Small water-resistant toys
Water
Freezer
How To Play
Place a single toy in each mould of the ice tray. You can, in fact, ask your child to pick the toys. Pour water into the tray and freeze overnight.
2. Painting on Water
This game goes well for kids who are intrigued by visuals rather than physical activity.
What You Will Need
Large glass tray
Permanent marker
Warm water
How To Play
Ask your child to draw a simple figure on the bottom of the glass tray. Then gently pour in the warm water and watch as the water magically lifts up the drawing and floats on top of the water! Your child can use different colours to create a more stunning effect.
3. Ice Cube Painting
Bring out your child’s artistic side!
What You Will Need
Ice trays
Water
Food colouring
Plain white t-shirts
How To Play
Place water in an ice tray. Place different food dues in each mould and mix well. Let the coloured ice set overnight. Give your child a plain white t-shirt and different coloured ice cubes. Watch as they use the melting ice to paint a funky t-shirt!
4. Slip and Slide
A fun activity where you can join in if you so wish!
What You Will Need
Large flex cloth
Running water from a hose
Pegs
How To Play
Place the flex on a slight slope leading to the pool and secure to the ground with pegs. Make sure that the hose is always running water over the flex. Kids can run up to the flex and slide all the way down to the pool.
5. Swimming Pool Scrabble
This activity helps to improve your child’s vocabulary as well as lung capacity.
What You Will Need
Sponge sheets
Permanent Markers
How To Play
Cut out 2inch by 2inch sponge squares. Write out individual alphabets using the permanent markers on the sponge squares. Throw them into the pool. Call out a word and get your child to bring the alphabets that spell out the word. You can increase the difficulty based on their age and skill.
Safety Tips for Playing Water with Kids
Under no circumstances should you leave your child unattended near the water. This holds true even if you are turning away for a minute or the water in question is the bathtub.
Make sure that all the kids understand the rules of playing in the swimming pool. Tell them that under no circumstances will ducking underwater be tolerated.
Make sure that any and all caregivers are trained in giving CPR.
Ensure that your child always goes to a pool with lifeguards present and accounted for, do not let them swim at the deep ends of the pool if there are no trained lifeguards present.
Make sure your child is always within eye-shot if you aren’t in the water and they don’t swim to a place you or their caregivers can’t see.
Playing with water is always a fun and enjoyable time for kids and adults alike. This summer, be sure to use SPF protection and keep your child safe from sunburn. Before starting any activities, ensure that your child has all his shots up-to-date and has medical clearance.

How Can You Make Your Baby Super Active! Always Laughing, Playing, Happy and Healthy
Every one of us wants our baby as active as much possible every day. Based on my experience I'm listing down the below observations that made my baby very active.
When I say active, these are the few things that I meant -
1. Baby is actively listening.
2. Baby is actively trying to speak or singing.
3. Baby is actively moving her hands and legs.
4. Baby is actively observing the surroundings.
5. Baby is trying to crawl and walk on the bed
Following are the Critical Observations that Made me Understand the Reason Behind my Baby Being Super Active
1. It helps if the mother is very active, always laughing and trying to be patient enough with the child.
2. Whoever is with the baby, should be active too because that is what the baby tries to imitate.
3. Try to follow some timings regarding actively engaging with the baby for 5 to 6 times every day.
4. Try showing bright colours.
5. Try moving baby to different parts of the house where much ventilation and light is available.
6. Try playing some simple sounds.
7. Try using similar words during initial days during feeding.
8. Try to observe the baby and tell some basic words or letters during the change of diaper or during changing the dress etc.
9. Most important is please observe the baby day in and day out to see any changes. Changes I mean weather, the baby is active, time to time or not and accordingly do all the above.
Also having patience and interest will make your baby super active.
Other Things that you Can do to Develop the Baby Actively
1. Early morning tell baby good morning/good afternoon/good evening and goodnight.
2. Let them listen to some music or sounds that smooth their ears after feeding and when the surroundings are calm, and the baby is ready to sleep.
3. Try to move baby's hands and legs as per doctors suggestions so that the baby is active and no gas is obstructing the motion and baby will be active.
4. Give then enough and sound sleep which is possible when they are active during non-sleep hours.
5. Try avoiding digital electronics such as phones/ televisions etc. for a few days
Believe all the above will make your baby active as well.
Thank you for your time.
Have active time with your baby.

A. Saint Line usually means positive only but for further more if you want to go ahead with a clarity on that then you can get a beta HCG on an ultrasound with your doctor because one line is usually visible and second is faint right so it is positive
